The night was bright. Cloudless. Stars blotted out by the brightness of the city lights and glow of an almost full moon. There was a chill to the hair and the ground wet from a recent shower.

And silence broken by shattered gasps for breath and the soft thud of Kamacite's knees hitting the pavement as he all but collapsed.

For a little while, he had been concerned that he might not have been able to escape. From previous experience, he knew the horribly outfitted senshi in red and teal was extremely aggressive and fast on his feet, but Kamacite incorrectly thought he would have plenty of time to pull the starseed free and teleport away.

He glanced down at it then, clutched tightly in his hand against his chest. The soul of someone unknown to him glowed dimly against his now bloodied palm, their body left in the alley somewhere on the other side of the city. It seemed like a huge waste of resources, pulling starseeds like this. Energy replenished itself. Civilians could be recruited into the ranks.

But his General hungered for these small crystals of life. Wolfeite wanted him to collect starseeds for him, and Kamacite was in no position to refuse.

Taking his moment of reprieve, Kamacite looked himself over to assess the damage. Once of the sleeves of his robes was completely useless, soaked in blood from a deep cut across his upper right arm. He tugged at the fabric, the sound of silk being torn making his stomach churn and jaw clench. Aside from that, he was lucky he got away with just a bruised cheek and scrapes on his hands.

Kamacite knew his energy was low, but his quota hadn't been filled, and school work prevented him from going out as often as he knew he should. He knew he should call it a night and go home, but a little longer out on the streets meant he wouldn't have to go out the next night.

It wasn't until he pushed himself back up, black rivers of hair flowing over his shoulders to pool at his feet, that he realized he was not alone.

There had been no aura. How?

A tall man with light hair and a gruesome scar diagonally across his face stood no more than a stone's throw away, moonlight illuminating his features, including the wings visible at his back.

"Good evening," Kamacite greeting politely, voice soft and breathless, fear freezing his movements, his mind suddenly moving to slow from fatigue and confusing to react.

"Blondie, I'm tired o' this s**t." Faust huffed plaintively at the eternal's ear. His eyes remained closed, never giving a damn for where they were going as long as he had to keep up this aura-blocking bullshit. Who the hell decided that cats should waste their time on this s**t? Who thought aura-blocking was a good idea anyway?

Thraen did, that's who. And Thraen was all about that tactical s**t like his brain was the one keeping him alive instead of his cat. His cat, who he was torturing with this sneaking around like they were goddamn thieves in the night. Hell, Faust kept up his concentration for all of three minutes just to satisfy Thraen's new idea, and that was three and a half minutes too-damn-long.

Faust wasn't made to sit on some damn senshi's shoulder and act like their cloak in the night. ******** that. His claws were made to rip face. His paws were made to kick a**. And his forehead star was made to make every damn Nega in a six-block radius wish they were wearing white.

But no, he had to block ********' auras.

Until some damn dumbass corrupted dingbat showed up right in their ********' faces. Faust dropped the aura-blocking like a bad habit and immediately started pacing across Thraen's shoulders, back and forth and back and forth and back and forth, until he got himself good and puffy. Until he was sure that damned stick figure of a ********' dress form should be shaking in his overgrown dress. "Sheeit, look at that tiny ********! Imma kick his a** so hard, he gonna fly straight up Metallia's a** and back out her nose! C'mon, Thraen, lemme take this wimpy ******** on my own!"

Faust snorted in the senshi's direction. "Yo, b***h! You gonna be sayin' 'good evening' to yo' own a** when I'm done with you!"

They’d found a corrupted, and the bid for the surprise worked in Faust's aural blocking. A very...

distracted one, that did not note their approach on first sight confirmation. This one swam in something like a kimono, and their own hair, and clutched distractedly at a shining in their small hand. My boots weight more. The uniform drags with more weight and volume than the neck and wrists that poked out of it. No foods have helped this one to stature. Asiatic tones to the uniform, if Earth colors the cultures of the stars in understanding. Faust gives my name already. We will see how much is known, I guess, to gauge.

Thraen approached with slow, but constant steps that made a guarded arc around the other senshi. Even the lowliest of Metallia’s slaves could pull starseeds if their arms were left to them. “No more than mine, nor any other upborne in this phantaste: your power is no sinecure. Surrender. The Negaverse hand is slavery, and makes yours soot in bondage. Do this not, and sorrow be your harvest.”

Faust as much wills them Not. They do not seem to have Mauvian of their own. Pursuit? No other immediate auras. Used teleportation? Maybe. May or may not have magic left. Could eat energy or starseed to regain.

He needed to escape. Could he risk teleporting? How far would his energy take him? Not beyond the scope of them being able to feel his aura, surely. Especially not if he needed to use his magic to distract prior. And he doubted he could focus enough to make it into Negaspace. Could he manage to get a message out for help without inciting retaliation? Doubtful.

Breathe. Focus.

Kamacite knew he would not win if this confrontation devolved into combat. But even as the other spoke, prompting surrender, Kamacite felt no reprieve.

The mauvian who addressed the senshi as Thraen seemed ready to attack. And Thraen’s slow, calculated approach was consistent with that of a predator cornering its prey. Kamacite had seen this approach before, and knew it was only a matter of time before teeth were bared and desiring blood.

At this point it was just a matter of who would attack first.

His thoughts momentarily shifted to Faustite, whom had yet to return his messages and no one seemed to know where he was. And then to Aue. Would Aue have tried to escape? He was a much more capable fighter than Kamacite, military trained and experienced. But he’d also been training Kamacite with the very intention to help him survive these situations.

Would Aue be more disappointed if Kamacite ran like a coward, or got himself killed? Would Wolfeite regret having him as a recruit, one way or another? His heart was pounding in his ears, making it difficult to think.

Mind made up, Kamacite drew his communicator pen from subspace, held between forefinger and thumb, the starseed still held against his palm. At the same time he lifted his other hand in the senshi and cat’s direction.

“Solar maximum!” he shouted, the bright light and electrical surge breaking a couple of the streetlights nearby, while the others around them went out entirely.

“Kamacite requesting backup. West of DCU. Flash of light. There’s an eternal and mau,” he tried to say breathlessly into the pen, intending to take advantage of the dark to try and escape.

Quote:
There is a brilliant flash of light causing temporary but immediate disorientation and blindness that fades into horribly spotty vision; can last upwards of thirty seconds. Additionally, devices with an electrical or magnetized charge (street lights, phones, cameras, etc) suddenly do not work during those thirty seconds. There have been cases of street light bulbs bursting from the electromagnetic surge. The attack does not cause physical damage and is intended as a diversion or distraction, as well as a hindrance. Has an effect radius of 10 feet (although the flash can be seen as one would see any flash), and can be used three times.

"Come on, get closer! Imma rip his eyes out and shove 'em up his a**!" The cat paced back and forth frantically, occasionally flapping a back foot when bone hair caught between furry toes. Faust continued to chitter and cuss, amounting to a semi-intelligible variant of meowmeowmowmeowmeowmeomwoemwomeweomewomeowm.

"The hell with this cheap talk s**t — aw hell." The communicator came out, and that was Faust's cue to lay down some long-range repercussions. He anchored himself on a broad shoulder, poised low like a dog waiting to pounce, and pulled energy into his kitty star. Once it twinkled spastically, a white-searing light burst from the senshi, blinding the cat, causing his feline communicator to crackle and fizz uselessly, and he discharged his laser into that unseeing aftermath of brilliance.

"This don't be good," the cat muttered to his sidekick. He couldn't see s**t. All he got was hella visual feedback in his eyes, and no amount of blinking pushed it the hell out of his business.

Which meant Wig & Wardrobe was gonna get the drop on them. But nobody went out and starseeded his senshi — Thraen was above that s**t. And Faust was too small and kittylicious to be a target. Could this a*****e even reach high enough to get to Thraen's chest? He looked too shrimpy for anything like that.

But Faust still had ears, and he listened for any signs of their target coming closer.

By own faith that good be done, the chance had to be afforded even devils to repent. Small time was afforded this one, and it was used efficiently in proving small self as much Lucifer, Morning Star, as else. He turned the world to white, not black, but as oblivion threatened. The ground waltzed; stone boots planted. ‘Kamacite.’ For breaking. Teleport, attack, starseed grab or run.

The world of sight, in the very second lost and within the other’s apparent zone of magic, meant Thraen was in his as well and didn’t need to see to cast. Faust was tensed, and maybe his aim held true through the blinding, but if it didn’t the Flowers didn’t need to be aimed. Hopefully the Mau would remember to hold his breath. “Thraen Annual Planting-”

Sailor Scout Ability: Thraen Annual Planting
How it Works - Thraen folds his hands together like prayer, the opens hands and they are full of seeds. He blows over them, dispersing the seeds. Hundreds of flowers spring up, growing and blooming magically. Their scent causes those who stand near them to fall asleep.
Range - The patch of flowers that grows is a 10 ft. radius around Thraen
Duration - The flowers bloom in the post he casts them. If those in the flower bed or near it do not get at least 10 ft. away from the flowers, they fall asleep like Dorothy in Wizard of Oz. The sleep lasts for 15 seconds. The flowers last for 20 seconds.
Damage Summary - This is not a damage magic. No damage occurs from the spell itself, nor is any intended. If the writer of someone being affected wants their character to fall to their knees and then flop over and take no harm at all, that is up to them. If the writer of someone being affected by this wants their character to fall over mid-run and skid to a stop with a broken nose, that is up to them. But there is no damage effect in the spell itself.
Weaknesses - If someone doesn't stay near them long enough, they don't fall asleep. If people hold their breath, wear a breathing mask, or cover their mouth and nose with wet cloth can avoid the scent as well. Once a person has fallen asleep in one flower bed, they cannot be affected by that bed again. Only a separate bed would affect them. This is an AoE (area of Effect) spell that effects allies as well as enemies.
Frequency of Usage - Twice a battle

Immediately after speaking into it, a small electrical shock startled Kamacite enough to let out a small yelp and dropped the communicator pen from his hand. Realization made his heart stop as the pen seemed to fritz and fizzle --

The beam of energy was unexpected too, although Kamacite knew very well that guardian cats were capable of such destructive power. It hit him in the back of his shoulder, blinding white pain indicating it had been dislocated in the process. It sent the corrupt senshi to his good hand, still curled around the starseed, and knees as he cried out in pain through gritted teeth, tears springing to his eyes.

There was no possible way Kamacite could teleport now. He’d already been in pain, had used too much of his energy before. Now he could barely breathe from it, could barely think. He gasped for air to refill his lungs after the impact of the beam knocked him breathless.

Thraen, as calm as his approach, spoke three words.

The call for help didn’t work, at least not with how the pen seemed to short out after he’d used his magic.

Stupid. He should have known to use caution with his magic. And now no one would know he needed help. Kamacite wondered if he would die there. He was angry with himself for being unable to fight back. Maybe if he’d been stronger. Had he not been taking full advantage of everything Aue did to train him?

Would Wolfeite and Aue be annoyed that Kamacite was killed because his training had been a waste of their time? Or would they be relieved that they could use their time more productively?

He still didn’t know to where Faustite disappeared. And now he would never know, all because he needed to collect starseeds and energy to fill his quota.

Flowers covered the ground now. When had they appeared? They smelled nice.

Eyes too heavy to stay open, Kamacite slumped the rest of the way to the ground, asleep.

While Faust turned to liquid on Thraen's shoulders, he dutifully held his kitty breath at the sound of Thraen's magic. Exhaustion from the beam reduced him to bonelessness. A back leg slid off Thraen's shoulder and flopped uselessly as the senshi moved.

Slowly the world faded back into existence — like that one time Faust stared at Quenton's bedroom lamp for way too damn long and went blind for a few minutes. Faust was able to see the corners of his vision first, so s**t like Thraen's hair faded into view just fine. Then, more slowly, he saw the flowers as long as he didn't look directly at them. And then he saw the corrupt senshi's passed-out, dumbass body not too far from that. A little more came, then a little more, and he could finally see again.

Faust grunted with a great huff when the flowers' magic dried up. "Sheeit, I forgot how much that s**t wiped me out. Looks like we got another loser on the floor. Yo Thraen, I wanna pee on this one. I forgot to take my piss before we left." The flopped cat looked to his senshi, expectant that Thraen would comply.

Faust was going to piss on this tiny, crumpled senshi. It was just a matter of whether he'd have to outrun Thraen to do it. And if this a*****e's bright and overblown uniform would stick around on him long enough after death for the cat pee to soak through and make the body stink. That'd be his calling card right there. And maybe he could chew some of the hair…

Small noises of pain, unusual for the numbing, electric throttle of a cat’s beam. Something more? Prior wound?

No sound, movement, retreat or attack. Two, three, the world waited, inverse, then slowly into overexposed supermoon halos and shimmers of indistinct india ink. Reason forbade to wait for the effects of both their magic to resolve; Thraen strode as he’d marked the location of the other Corrupted when sight had been fine. Fallen, even a step or two away, the body, fabric, and most of all hair should be there to find with blind-hands and boot tips. Nine, ten, hair and some thicker fabric of hakama was first, hauled nearer and the sleeping senshi-eleven. A thin arm, twelve, wrist and hand held in Thraen’s two and turned, thirteen, until crackling, wet cracking fourteen. Fifteen seconds. Faust's voice.

Waking, Thraen grabbed for the other arm.

Pain bit through sleep. The blinding, paralyzing pain of broken bone. But magic overtook him, prevented movement, blossomed like the flowers that surrounded him, and withered like his chances of survival.

Kamacite did not enjoy pain. He did everything he could to avoid it. Because he was familiar with it. But that familiarity never made it easier. Instead it just reaffirmed his desire to avoid it at all cost.

A rippling, agonized cry forced its way from Kamacite’s throat as the waking world welcomed him once more. Just beyond the pain that seized his senses, Kamacite was vaguely aware that his unbroken arm was being grabbed.

Panic surged and he splayed his fingers and palm upward as another terrified “Solar maximum!” ripped from somewhere in the back of his throat.

But that, he knew even in the haze of blinding pain, wouldn’t be enough to break the strong grip of the senshi. He twisted his arm to try and pull free, using the senshi’s grip to try and gauge the location of his legs as Kamacite struck out with his heel, and yelping as he put too much pressure on his already injured shoulder.

He tried to twist away again, the hand of his broken arm digging with fingers against the ground to try and gain some leverage. And through the burning, his fingertips felt something cool. Flower petals? No, it was hard. The starseed he’d dropped?

Kamacite grabbed at it as he kicked his leg out again, and pushed it into his mouth to bite down.

He’d seen what starseeds could do to boost energy, but he hadn’t quite been ready for the euphoric rush.

Arm twisted free, he focused the last of his energy on teleporting. He couldn’t quite make it to the absolute safety of Negaspace, but in a junkyard of the warehouse district Kamacite’s aura appeared, flickered, and went out as he immediately powered down.
