The afternoon was hot, and the dens quiet. There weren't many cubs to care for at present, and Elwynn found she had a bit more time on her hands than when the dens were full. Feeling idle and restless, the female found herself heading no where in particular. The lands had been quiet, but the blue female felt restless. Perhaps that was due to her father's wanderlust, or maybe, she just felt idle. Without any cubs to immediately care for, Elwynn found herself mothering those who were sick and ill. She was no studied healer, of course, but she took direction well, and was able to try to bring comfort by helping to groom those too sick and too weak, or to offer what gentle assurances she could. Unfortunately, though, healing wasn't entirely where her heart was at....

That familiar ache, that yearning for a new brood of cubs to keep an eye on, ate at her. Oh, how she wished she could have cubs all her own. Certainly, while she did not necessarily wish illness upon them, she also wished to see her pride thrive. They were sick, but it was a curse upon their lands; perhaps future generations would not suffer so; besides, they needed new life, new blood, to carry on. They might be ill, but did that not mean they could not have families their own? Did that mean they were doomed to die out?

No.

Elwynn knew their life was hard, but their pride was strong, resilient, and this was their home. She would not just roll over and die. Though their lives were not easy, each life was precious, and not all of them doomed to death. Some of the lions in the pride lived long lives, even sick, and their lives were all the more blessed. Their pride could appreciate each day as a gift... and as a Nanny, Elywnn tried hard to ensure each cub under her care knew that.

But things in the pride were quiet, and it was that sort of quiet that caused Elwynn to take on a more pensive and introverted mood. So she walked quietly, roaming no where in particular. A small part of her hoped that maybe the gods would bless her and a foundling in need might appear. Surely, someone out there was in need of her care.
