Lillith sighed as she once again checked the time. She had trusted her friends when they said she would like this guy, but if he couldn't even be punctual then they were wrong. If there was one thing that was sure to ruin her day, it was running late. She had gone all out for this date, too. She had picked out a dark red dress that looked almost black in some lights, the hem falling almost to the floor. Well, it would be on the floor if it weren't for the black heels that graced her slender feet. She'd left her hair down, swept back over her shoulders.

And at the moment she was standing outside of the restaurant that had been agreed on with her wings tucked tight against her back. They still drew looks and side-eye glances that she should be used to by now but she still managed to feel uncomfortable under the attention. But she kept her head high and tried to ignore the looks. And hoped to the gods that this boy would show up soon.

Otherwise, she was going to leave and quite possibly never date again.

He was late!!!

He hadn't even met the girl yet and he was already late! When a group of friends said they had set him up on a blind date with a girl one of them knew, he didn't think things would go south right from the beginning! He had heard such great things about her too, that she was unique, fun, kind and that he'd totally hit it off with her.

He had made sure to dress in his absolute best. A white tux with gold trims and a faint blue hue that seemed to almost glitter in the light. He had taken extra time on his hair, smoothing back his blond locks so that he looked presentable and not straight out of battle. His father had insisted upon giving him 'the talk' over and over and over, each time the 'talk' becoming more and more different than the last. He had agonized over every little detail and possibility, whether he should bring her a white rose or a traditional red rose.

After he had finally made up his mind he glanced at the clock and felt his heart drop to the floor. Late, late late late late!!!!

Shouting farewells at his parents, he ran out the door, wings spread wide and booked it full speed to the agreed meeting place. He landed outside the restaurant looking somewhat disheveled, his hair straying loose from the place he had painstakingly spent to get it to stay. Parts of his coat were wrinkled and he fought to catch his breath as he smoothed them out. His plae blue eyes glanced around, mouth slightly open. Was she already here?

Did he even know what she looked like?!?!!! Damn it he shouldn't have agreed to the whole blind part of this date! What if he went up to the wrong girl and made an absolute fool of himself?!

Collecting his thoughts, Azel took a deep breath and attempted to regain his inner peace. Ruffling his wings and setting them neatly against his back, he peered around once more. A girl with a beautiful dress that complimented her nicely was waiting nearby, looking rather...well... impatient. But what Azel noticed most were her wings. Different yet not unlike himself. She had to be the one. It was too much of a coincidence. Strolling over softly, he cleared his throat and presented her with a smile and a rose. "Would you by chance be...Lillith?"

She was just about to turn and leave when a gust of wind threatened to blow her dress up. With a yelp, she only just managed to hold the fabric down around her legs. Her face must be as red as the membrane of her wings. Okay, she was so done with this and the next time she saw Rebecca they were going to have words and they weren't going to be nice ones!

And then the cause of the gust of wind walked over, presenting her with a rose. She looked up from the petals and her mind stopped working for a moment. Handsome was an understatement. He was pale and golden-haired with eyes that reminded her of a cloudless midday sky. And he had wings. Angel wings. "O-oh," she breathed. "Well, yes, that's me... You must be Azel."

She could see why her friend had thought she would like him. Though, just because they both had wings didn't mean they would have a single thing else in common. In fact, Lillith was already sure they wouldn't have anything else in common. They couldn't possibly look more different! He was all golden smiles and she was dark and snarky. She did take the offered rose, relaxing her wings a little as she gave him an arch look. "You're late."

Azel was relieved to find that it was her and that she was in fact still here. Her smile and acceptance of the rose, at first, made him think that everything might just work out in the end. She really was as sweet as Lyze made her out to be....

...or maybe not?

Faltering, he laughed slightly, then swallowed what felt like a baseball in his throat. "I uh... yeah.... ahaha.... I...." he paused then took a deep breath yet again. "I'm sorry. I wanted to make sure everything was perfect....i lost track of time." he explained though he knew that excuse was no doubt not good enough. Running a hand through his hair he glanced up through the windows of the restaurant. "Well hey... its still open! I'm sure our reservation is still good. Would you care too..." he held out a hand to her in the best gentleman like manner he could. "Dine with me?" he smiled, a genuine smile.

Also a bit of an 'ohihopeeverythingworksout' smile.

Lillith held back a snort. He was kind of cute when he looked all flustered like that. Still. Lost track of time? At least he said he'd wanted the date to go well. She turned to look at them when he mentioned the windows and debated whether she still wanted to go through with this date. When she looked back at Azel he had his hand held out to her and was smiling at her.

Oh... She couldn't deny the effect that smile had on her heart. It skipped at least a beat as she looked up at him. And oh, she did like that he was taller than her. "Well, I suppose we might as well," she said, trying to play off her sudden breathlessness as she slipped her hand in his.

Suddenly, she was hoping this date would go much better now that he was here. Maybe she could forgive him for being late...

Relieved as she took his hand, Azel let out a sigh of relief. He smiled more now, seeming to beam from ear to ear as he led her through the door like a true gentleman should. "You'll love it here, I promise!" he nodded as he strolled up to the front booth and dipped his head politely at the receptionist. "A reservation for two. Under the name Azel." he spoke confidently.

He remembered his friend having said he put the reservation under his name so when the receptionist seemed to be taking a long while to search through the list, he began to grow worried. Standing on his tip toes just ever so slightly he tried to peer at the list with her but was instantly met with a rather un amused gaze.

'I'm sorry sir, I don't see any reservations here under that name.'

Azel turned cold. "I...i...I'm sorry...what? Azel. Azel Winterwing. Its there I assure you, please, check again." he implored the receptionist, his grip tightening and loosening over Lillith's hand as he urged the girl at the counter to hurry. Again he was met with denial, a shake of the head and this time more forceful words.

'If you don't have a reservation sir I must ask you to leave.'

Gulping now, Azel glanced down at Lillith, giving her a nervous smile before releasing her hand and gripping the edge of the reception desk. "There has to be some mistake! I know its there! It has to be. Azel Winterwing. Azel. Winter. Wing. It has to be there, please just look!" he groaned, now about turning as pale as his suit. "He...he told me he made the reservations under my name...he....he told me he did..." he muttered to himself, sweating.

"Lyze...what did you do..." he whispered, scanning the list as best he could, his eyes near about bulging out of his sockets. And then finally, he saw it. A name he recognized out of all the others. A name, no doubt, done in jest from his quote unquote, best friend. "Ah...ah...there....he...ahaha...used my...First name." he half laughed.

It was a silly childhood nickname, one he hated but one Lyze loved to tease him with. Not that he could explain that to the receptionist, who by this time, was giving him the stink eye. "You see, I prefer to go by my middle name....ahhaee..but...thats me... Eezey. Its uh... well it sounds too similar so you know... Eezey... Azel....but thats...thats me.. promise! Look, last name Winterwing! So can...can we please go to our table now?" he gulped, pleading with the receptionist.

She gave him a doubtful look but called a waitress to escort the pair to their table none the less. Azel took in several breaths and let them all out again, holding out his hand for Lillith once he had collected himself again. "I'm...sorry about that....hahaha....ah..." he paused.

She looked so bothered and definitely not impressed.

Okay, so she could at least admit to herself that his smile definitely made her heart skip a few beats. She offered him a smile that may or may not have held a little disbelief in it as she looked up at him. She hoped that he was right, and that nothing else went wrong on this excursion.

He seemed so confident as he gave his name to the hostess, but she couldn't find their reservation. Wonderful. Lillith rolled her eyes and tucked her free arm under her other elbow. It was the closest approximation of crossing her arms that she could do with Azel gripping her hand like he was. Not that she minded that part. His hand was warm and not sweaty and gross like the horror stories she'd heard from her friends.

And now the hostess was getting ready to get them to leave. How embarrassing! She didn't often date and she was still going to have a horror story of her own to tell her friends. Her face was once again heating up with her embarrassment as Azel continued to plead with the hostess and she was about to hiss at him that they should just leave when he spotted his name on the list.

"Thank the gods," she muttered under her breath as a waitress was called over to escort them to their table. She gave him an annoyed side eye look as he offered her his hand once more. She was seriously tempted to ignore it, irritable that this date was only going down hill, but she sighed and took it anyway.

Lillith forced herself to relax, rustling her wings behind her and breathing deeply. "I just hope the rest of the night goes better," she said loud enough for him to hear. The seat they were brought to wasn't even a good one. It was close enough to the kitchens that they would have to fight to hear each other over the noise. So much for the night getting better.
