Research has shown that once you are stretched beyond your limit, your brain shuts down involuntarily from time to time. People were put to the test, and after a day or so that began to happen. I'm unsure if people will really die from being deprived of sleep, although I'm pretty sure that it will place a huge strain on your body. Nightly rest allows the body to recover from physical fatigue.

It's really hard for me to stay up unless I really need to... Like if i'm in the middle of a video game or boy-watching...
My body shuts down at 9pm.
I did stay up for the All-Night Grad Party, though. It was a miracle!

If forced to stay awake I'm unsure if they will die... their brain shuts down periodically, with the person suffering from the lack of rest unknowing of it. Theoretically, the stress placed on your body and brain will cause extreme fatigue and thus death.
