|| Oba IC ||
It was no secret that the whole of Tendaji was planning their meeting, trying to get all of the earthlings and even the Alkidike involved in stopping the Dretch. It had been months now and there were still disappearances that could only be attributed to the gnarled bug-like creatures that could appear out of nowhere and vanish without a trace.

Conflict was not a foreign concept to Tendaji. It was a continent of many different people and conflict was bound to happen. Time and time again, somehow the people would find a way to come together to resolve whatever issues may have popped up. This time was different. This time it wasn’t just the people of Tendaji that were at danger. There were these new people across the water that were now included in a very big problem: the Dretch. The people of Tendaji knew they would need any and all the help they would need so while planning meetings on how to deal with the disappearances and the bug mages as a whole, the offer was extended to the inhabitants of Yael and Belrea.

A few days prior, a small group of Matori with a few Obans waited at the port while a boat docked. Soon a group of hesitant looking Yaeli made their way to shore. They were led by a man, a priest, whose receding hairline was a hint at his age. Each group greeted the other cordially enough but there was a nervous air around the party from Yael which had been expected.

Besian made his way onto the circular stage, perhaps one not as grand as the ones used in previous gatherings in Oba. Though the King had no qualms about providing whatever was needed for the gathering, it had been Besian’s request that they host the meeting outside of the capital.

Driidi
post one

Drii had seen Yaeli before. Hanging out with a minor noble's son all the time had left him worldlier than most, even though he had never left Oba. But just because he was familiar with the glowing-eyed islanders didn't mean he had interacted very many of them, which meant he was most definitely gawking today.

Also worthy of his attention? The bug monsters that kept stealing people.

Others might have used these magical kidnappings as an excuse to stay indoors, but they lured the prentice out, his interest piqued and his mood much lighter than it should have been. He watched the people around him with a faint smirk, making a game of separating the easy marks from those he would have shied away from, once upon a time.

Gahiji Post 1

Lifting a hand to adjust his mask so that it was sitting up on his head Gahiji could himself admire the crowd that was gathered around him. There were a lot of interesting people here from the looks of it, so many of them he wanted nothing more then to pick a fight with just because they looked strong. From here he could see several that might be able to take him down and that was something that was quite exciting in his mind. Nobody wanted a fight that would be easy, they wanted to fight something big and dangerous that could stomp them flat. At least that was what Gahiji wanted.

It was kind of why he was present at the moment. He'd heard that people were gathering in regards to those bug mages that had caused his life to grind to a boring halt of late. His hunting was impeded, as was his general wandering. He had to sneak away to keep others off his case about the 'dangers of the world' and the suggested rules that those in charge had laid out about not traveling alone. To a degree he understood why but it was still something that was making things boring. He wanted to be out and about every day, hunting and fighting. He didn't want to stay home where his skills would rust alongside his body.

His thoughts were instantly interrupted by a particularly interesting guy, a guy with dark grey skin and a lot of muscles. Now that was the sort of person that he wanted to fight. Here was to hoping the meeting would go smoothly and allow him to pick a dozen fights afterwards!

Saraf Post 1

Saraf found himself standing in the midst of some others that had gathered for the meeting about the bug mages that had been a problem of late. He'd come because the Captain of the Outcast Unit had decided to volunteer him to go, not that he wouldn't have come of his own accord. The bugs were a threat to the whole of Oba and more importantly to his wife and his sons. They had to be taken care of, soon, and without any sort of mercy. They were a dangerous group that should have the entirety of the Oban army coming down on them like the stomp of a Gerru. Here was to hoping that was what happened.

Shifting a bit he looked from side to side, taking in those that were gathering. There were people from a lot of different places, included some from the North. It might be a bit old fashion of him but he was still surprised when he saw those from the Northern tribes just because they'd been at war with each other once. He supposed having a common enemy was enough to cause them to gather like this. Even a decent amount of the Water Tribe had gathered and if anyone had reason to hold a grudge it would be them. It went to show how dangerous the bug mages really were.

Then there were the Yaeli. They were a group that caused him to stare a bit, unsure exactly how to treat them. He'd only heard rumors after all so who knew what skills they might have or what they might be capable of. They were a mystery, as was what they brought to the table against the bugs. Only time would tell as information started to be revealed.

Shesha Post 1

Shesha lifted a hand to toy with a lock of his bright red hair, giving a thoughtful sound as he looked over those who were gathering for the meeting. It really was an interesting, very diverse group, wasn't it? It made him really curious as to how things were going to go down since those in charge of this meeting had even gotten some of the Yaeli to come to the meeting. Kudos to those in charge he supposed, that couldn't have been easy if the rumors about the Yaeli were true.

Not even bothering to look toward Aqio, knowing without a doubt that he was there, he said, "What do you think of those gathered? It makes me feel as though whatever is going to be said today will be interesting." They wouldn't bring together so many people only to say that they didn't have any ideas or that they were at a loss, right? If that were to happen there would be a lot of different people from a lot of different tribes that would want to riot in the streets like a bunch of thugs. No, they had to have something important planned and he was interested to see both what it was and if it could benefit him to participate in what was being planned. Shesha wasn't one for working for free after all.

"Let's be on guard. After the way things went last time I'd rather not get kidnapped. Be sure to watch my back, little fish."

Shierra post 1

Peeking out from behind a tree, Shierra grinned with absolute delight. Look at all of the people there! Obans and Matorians and hybrids and Yaelians! She wasn't supposed to be there, but who could resist going to this meeting when it wasn't too far from where they were staying? The Dretch were scary enough to bring all these people together... It was amazing.

A touch to her shoulder made her jump and spin. "Koril! What're you doin' here. Papa said ta stay home." Pursing her lips, she turned back to the crowd with a smirk. "You're gonna blow my cover."

Koril post 1

Having seen his sister's attempted escape, Koril had taken it upon himself to follow and make sure she stayed out of trouble. Of course, he was curious about what had his little sister breaking the rules, and kept himself back until she stopped. The big meeting!

"A tree isn't cover, Shierra," he snorted, giving her arm a nudge. "You're gonna get your butt whupped if papa finds out you came here. ...Then he's gonna whup mine for not bringin' ya straight home." He reached out to take Shierra's arm. "Come on. Can't here anything from back here. There's important stuff gonna be said!"

Chalcedony Post 1

It had been a long trip to get to the gathering in Oba. It was a place that he'd never thought he would go but it was important due to the threat of the bug mages. They were a dangerous creatures roaming the world. They were dangerous enough that it got someone like Chalcedony who didn't leave Sol to often to go on a rather long trip to get the information that was needed. The only regret that he had was that in coming here to Oba he wouldn't be able to keep an eye on all of his children. He wanted to look after them, to keep them safe, even if they didn't all appreciate it. If they were safe that was all that mattered to him.

He glanced from side to side, taking in those that were present, before he found himself a place where could keep an eye on things. Other then knowing that it was a gathering with intent to deal with the Dretch he couldn't say he knew the ins and outs of the meeting. He hoped it would start soon so that they would know exactly what those in charged had learned. Whatever it was they knew he hoped that it would be enough to put the Dretch threat to rest at last.

Kedean | 1

While the Dretch were, technically, ‘everyone’s’ problem in a sense that their plight seemed capable of striking anywhere, Kedean had never considered them one of personal concern. They had not affected him, and while rumors of them were formidable, they might have almost seemed unreal — if not for the fact that occasionally, they bled into his job description, which was what brought him here today.

Kedean had had no personal intention of making the trek to the communal meeting area on Oba’s shore arranged for by Oban leadership. He had enough to deal with at home, particularly concerning his newest guest. But, as sometimes happened, fate had seemed to come knocking.

In the scurry over the meeting, much other travel up and down the coast had been halted or delayed, putting a temporary damper in Kedean’s next plan for job hunting. Instead, something — or someone — else had quite literally come knocking at his doorstep in something of a panic. The man, Sir Bosien Frehy, was a short, stout, anxious man who had lost his wife to the Dretch. Or, so he insisted, and in his defense, he did seem convinced and genuinely shaken by the fact and eager to learn all he could in this meeting—both potentially to ‘save’ her and save himself, presumably, as he seemed to maintain a deep personal concern for his own well-being as well.

Kedean simply thought, privately, that the longer he heard the man talk, the more convinced he was that the woman had staged her own kidnapping—or simply left him, and left the man to fashion his own mental excuse, which he had done quite handily.

Regardless, however, it was a paying job, for no indecent sum, to stand at the man’s side and look intimidating in the presence of whatever dangers they might come across — which was something Kedean did very well and was happy to provide. That left only managing Finnufarinel. If at first there was any doubt how they ought to handle matters there, Sir Frehy did seem amenable to allowing Finn’s company when promised that he would ‘work for food.’ Judging from his reactions, Kedean suspected that the man likely consented just as much out of fear for whatever demonic curse the glowing Yaeli boy might put on him otherwise as anything else, and he almost surely underestimated just how much the boy could consume given his small frame.

But no matter on either front. They did make the trip successfully, and now here they stood, Kedean lingering by their cart somewhat back from the main crowd as Sir Frehy wrung his hands at his side.

“Are you certain it’s wise to approach the middle?” he was asking. “With so many, if there was an attack- Oh, or perhaps they would come for the edges first!”

Rainier || Post 1

The milling crowd of people brought to mind another gathering, back on his home of Yael. One whose memories still woke him up in the middle of the night, sweating and biting back screams as he watched the young priest disappear, himself helpless to stop it. A chill ran down Rainier's spine, and his mouth was set in a grim line as he watched his own leaders disembark and head towards the stage. It was strange to see them here, so calm and confident in their own realm, their nerves were palpable from a distance as they acclimated to this strange land. He couldn't blame them, he himself was newly arrived and he still felt the culture shock almost as keenly as when he had first stepped off of that ship. He felt oddly separated, even from his own kind. His food had long since run out and when he had awoken that morning he had noticed the glow in his eyes was beginning to fade. Perhaps this was the sign he had been dreading, that the Gods themselves had lost their favor with him. His prayers and rituals that morning had been particularly intense, but the nagging worry wouldn't leave him alone. Rain tried his best to meld in with the crowd, although it was difficult, he did not know many people and his violet hair was stark against the Oban red. He found himself concerned that the Yaeli leaders would see his fading glow and recognize his loss. Perhaps they would decide that he wasn't welcome back to his homeland. Rainier made the sign against bad luck and kept his gaze carefully aimed towards the Oban leaders.

Finnufarinel | 1

Finn had been privy to just enough street gossip during his time in Oba to know what scared them. The Dretch had continued snatch 'em up - without rhyme or reason - and it made sense for the children to shake. Adults, however, should have had more backbone than this. Even before the Yaeli had docked the Oban populace walked two and two, sometimes going out of their way to make sure no one was left alone. A healthy amount of adults shrugged the advice; if those bug mages could take anyone, what was to stop them from grabbing you out of a group? They'd done it before and they would do it again.

He said as much to Sir Bosien Frehy when he'd come knocking at Kedean's door. The concept of being 'taken' by the Dretch was such a non-issue for Finn that he'd proclaimed, rather bluntly, that Frehy's wife was likely either dead or wanted him to leave her alone. Either way, he'd be better off spending his time chasing after someone else. It wasn't the kindest of words, nor was it particularly productive in landing them a job, but Finn supposed that Kedean had done a well enough job smoothing things over. They had work, after all, and that was the only reason Finn found himself mixed up in this whole thing.

For the moment he was content, if only because Sir Frehy had so generously 'offered' to buy Finn a loaf of sweet bread. It stood to reason that if they were attacked the pair of bodyguards would need all the strength they could muster, and for Finn, that energy came in the form of food. With his mouth full Finn was unable to snap back at the jittery, lump of a man and thus, was in a much better mood.

Especially given the way the man seemed to shrink every time Finn turned his eyes on him. Something about the wild, near feral, glowing look kept the oban away from him and that was just fine with Finn. If anything it put a smug little smirk on his face.

"If I were going to pick someone off," Finn mused around a bite of bread, "I'd go for the slow ones. Like, a fat guy sitting around a cart on the edge of a crowd."

Adenah l 1

Adenah had never wished her sisters were here more than when she saw the yaeli.

Her mother had warned her time and time again about going back to Oba, more so now than ever because of the Dretch. Had she listened? No. Ade went out to 'run errands' and had promptly taken what coin her mother had given her to run off to Oba. A group of her friends had planned the escapade as soon as they heard about the great gathering, and as much as she wanted to tell Ani....Adenah hadn't. There was a chance she could have blabbed, or gone with her, which would have gotten them both into trouble. At the moment it had been an impulsive mood, but now....Well, she should have at least told her. she supposed.

Either way she'd written a hasty little note back home. Surely they wouldn't worry so much now, right?

She'd never seen a yaeli before. The priest was impressive, balding as he was, but the group as a whole was what caused a round of gossip to stir around the teens. Their eyes really did glow! And that hair...she loved it! So many of them were shaky and nervous, which was a put off, but Adenah had been told as much.

"They look cool and creepy, but their wusses, you'll see."

A wild Nataska approaches~ Hope you don't mind! heart

Nataska had not come for grim realities. At the time she departed from Belrea, in fact, she would have been lying to say that any grander purpose drove her than simply the desire to go: be elsewhere, see new things, carve new territory, be someone other than her mothers before her and everything that complicated her life at home.

Of course, young as she was perhaps it was a more naive desire than she had initially given it credit for. She did not regret it, but very quickly she had come to see that the ‘mysterious’ foreign land of adventure and glory was in fact a very real, and very huge place, with serious dilemmas all its own.

She had not come with the first boarding party, and thus, her own flight (squeezed somewhere into the interim) had landed her in Oba, and she had been here now for some weeks, declining to return at the first opportunity. There had been talk of a critical gathering to discuss the ‘Dretch’, a concept she was still only minimally familiar with. They sounded like a fairy tale crafted to scare children.

But, having come to investigate, there was no denying the very real fear and trepidation in the moods and on the faces of those gathered. She shifted her way quietly through the crowd. Among them, she was at least dark of skin, and her pale teal hair matched that closely of many of their ‘water’ tribe so she might have been mistaken for one of their hybrids, if not for her distinctly violet eyes and the smattering of sharp, vibrant green crystals that speared like horns from her forehead.

She gravitated, much without thinking about it, towards those that looked different from the predominantly Oban crowd. While it didn’t usually bother her, she felt distinctly aware here of how alone she was, and instinct seemed to inspire gathering nearer to someone else who seemed to be standing on his own, as opposed to the bulk of them, who all had their small huddles of familiar faces.

Kedean | 2

Kedean glanced down as his client jibbered away, exercising the practiced art of listening and looking as though he was paying full attention, while still keeping most of his focus on the surrounding area. That was what he was here for, after all, and a paying charge tended to of course want the job done properly—while still managing to be cross if they didn’t feel their words were being given sufficient credence.

After Frehy had purchased Finn his sweetbread, the boy was blissfully mostly silent, and Kedean could only hope it remained that way. On the one hand, it wasn’t as though he was personally offended by anything the boy uttered, his statements simply seemed to come falling directly from the tongue in their rawest form, spending no more time in his thought process than it took to come up with them in the first place, and while he could handle that, it wasn’t strictly the best for business.

Still, it hadn’t managed to lose them the client yet and at this rate, he didn’t suspect it would. All the way here, Frehy wouldn’t likely be abandoning his support group due to newfound offense at whatever Finn managed to say, and-

Like, a fat guy sitting around a cart on the edge of a crowd.

Kedean shut his eyes.

Frehy made a sort of breathy, squabbering squeak of a sound, shuffling his posture up in a way that reminded Kedean of a small, fat bird ruffling its feathers to look larger. Then, he was taking steps towards the main crowd. “We can’t be just sitting around, better to hear them nearer, anyway, gods protect…” His stubby fingers made a quick sign over his chest as his eyes darted from person to person, lingering especially long and cautious on the Yaeli.

Though what could possibly be intimidating about most of the huddled, terrified Yaeli was a mystery to Kedean.

To Finn, he murmured, “Some of yours have made it from across the shore…”

Iroia Post 1

She and the bug mages went way back, to the point where she forgot which scar was which. Shaking her head she was already tired of the waiting, but there was no where to charge off too when she didn't know where to start to begin with, mores the pity. "Kiyelt can we just find the place so we can hammer those evil things into the dust please?"

She spoke to the tall muscular iceling beside her, he had picked her up from Jauhar to join the cause. The cause of kicking as so of course she had said yes, her family knew how important this was to her. It was central to herself to kick dretch arse.

She ruffled up her hair in impatience and glanced beside her, "Oh hello, here to get revenge too? You are a tad young but they start them early these days don't they?" Green eyes sparkled a cheerful greeting at the fire prentice beside her.
