Fairs, Festivals, Fiestas...Always a good time, right?

Well, Toby figured as much, anyway, so when he heard about some (admittedly a bit silly) Valentines fair at the Space museum, he clearly had to at least have a look around.

It was a bit silly: Lots of cheesy signs, balloons, and such. But also food and games and the like. Something about blind dates, too? He didn't really have an interest, so didn't even check into that at all.

He did notice, though, while scoping out the situation, that the occasional sign or balloon around had weird messages on them. Rude things,or just silly things. The silly things made him smile, but he didn't do much about it.

That is, until he noticed another boy--possibly a bit older than him? Hard to say, really--holding a balloon and writing on it. Maybe this was the source of the messages!

Naturally, he simply had to go over and see if he was right. So he made his way on there, and after approaching, just suddenly said with a little smile, "Hey there, whatcha writin'?"

Toby nodded, and took the balloon. He read it, and laughed lightly. "What a nice balloon, so thoughtful!" He let it go. "Looks good to me! Got another pen? I can write some messages, too." He rubbed his chin. "Hmm, like..."

After a few moments' consideration, he offered, "You're looking fabulous today! Or, hmm, 'Roses are red, violets are blue, space is really cool, and so are you!' Or...uh," he looked off to the side, "'Kiss me, I'm rubber!'" He giggled at that one, and shook his head. "Well...maybe not that."

"Oh, I'm Toby, by the way!" he said while thinking of another silly thing to write, having realized he should probably introduce himself. He held out a hand to shake. "This is a cool little fair thing, isn't it?"

Toby grinned a big, happy grin at the other boy’s reaction to his last suggestion, and accepted the pen.

As he considered what to write on the balloon, he shook his head. “Noo…I didn’t see a chocolate fountain! I’ll have to go find that! Can’t go wrong with chocolate, right? Hmm… how about,” he adopted a musing tone and started writing on the balloon, “’I’ll…bet…you…taste…sweet…like…chocolate.’” He giggled again, largely because what he actually wrote was, ‘Smile! There’s free chocolate!’

“Okay! Your turn!” he declared, and handed the marker back. “I should come here when there isn’t a big fair going on some time,” he commented. “Haven’t done that before, it’s probably pretty cool. I don’t think about space much…”

Toby laughed and put a finger to his lips to show he wouldn't tell anybody about the mess. He figured something like that would have to be a total mess after a while no matter what one person did, but no reason to point somebody out!

He looked around and snatched another balloon to offer to December. "Empty but full?" he echoed with a smirk. "Sounds like when you get out into the woods or something--life and stuff everywhere, but no people and cities. Now that I know all about!" Toby grinned and nodded. "But...I'm sure space is nothing like the woods..."

He rubbed his chin thoughtfully, then shrugged. "I'll find out some time, I guess." He was thinking of a couple different things when he said that, one of which he'd definitely not say, and the other was probably obvious (in the museum for it, after all).

The balloon he caught was presented to December once he was ready for another message. "I think I'll go have a look at that chocolate," he told the other boy cheerfully. "Wanna come along? One chocolate dip probably wasn't enough, I'll bet!"
