Maybe she was being a bit ambitious coming out so soon after the tourney–

Maybe she should have stayed in for longer, maybe spent more time resting up.

After all participating in this year’s Negaverse tournament had done a number on her and whilst she had ended up coming out on top, and - loathe as Reinerite was to admit it - she wasn’t yet back up to being 100%

She wasn’t planning to be out for too long however, planned to be out just enough to gather a bit here and there for her quota–

And it wasn’t as if there wasn’t easy pickings - because the bars made for a steady source of drunks.

Her lips tilted up in a small smile as she calmly continued to drain energy from the drunken idiot who had been a little tooo pushy in his flirtatious advances and thus had, at least in her eyes, volunteered himself into being 'useful' - just as the drunken man lying unconscious in the alleyway two streets down had.

After all drunks weren’t really good for that much and so Reinerite was - to her eyes - doing them a favour and making them useful.

Quote:
He didn’t know why he was, again, in this part of the city but he was. Bars and clubs weren’t his thing, even when he could hold his own drinking and did so fairly often, yet here he was. He figured it might be as good a place as any to start his patrol, perhaps even better than most. The park was good, always had been, but he could see why the Negaverse and dark mirror might like this area. Drunks weren’t able to put up much of a fight, and would likely forget being grabbed when they came to later.

As he powered up it wasn’t too much of a surprise when he felt a chaos signature. For a moment he considered rolling his eyes- predictable, but he didn’t. Instead he headed off towards the signature, or at least he thought he was heading towards it. Whoever it was they were a Captain..so equal to himself - not bad. If it had been a General he’d have called for help, likely calling Erebus for backup.

Quote:
All Reinerite had wanted was a quiet evening, her plans for it small - with part of it spent doing just a bit of energy draining to put towards her quota and then the rest of it spent at home with her perhaps indulging in some of the cupcakes that she had picked up earlier whilst working on a bit of classwork–

The sickly-sweet flare of the Order aura flaring up nearby had not factored into those plans - plans that were now going to have to change.

She kept draining calmly as she tried to work out just how close the aura to her position beause she was almost done, taking a chance even though she knew that the other - whoever it was - had to be close–

And that if she was picking up on their aura then they had to be picking up on hers.

A knight she decided - she was picking up on a knight’s aura - the aura reminding her of that knight with the stupid feather duster–

And she’d done some research since that encounter, enough so to recognise that the strength of the aura meant that she was dealing with a Squire.

She stopped draining as the aura appeared to draw closer, straightening as she tucked away what she had drained into subspace before stepping a few steps forward away from the man lying slumped on the ground–

And whilst Reinerite hadn’t managed to finish the job, she figured that it was something that she could always work on - at least she could once she finished dealing with the Order pest that appeared to be heading her way.

Quote:
Said order pest was indeed moving closer, as he noted the signature getting closer and not further away, as he intended to make sure they weren’t hurting anyone. He figured they were or hard however, just due to the location and the fact they were powered up. There was no other reason for them to be powered, right?

Never mind the fact he had, on rare occasion, powered up in order to just make travel time home faster.

Drawing closer he called out to the figure he knew was not far away. “I can sense you, come out.” He didn’t know if it was someone he’d encountered previously, which might be helpful, or not but whoever it was he would get their attention and find out what was going on.

Quote:
Reinerite’s response to the voice was to call her snowglobe staff to hand, because it was familiar - and not in a good way familiar - the soles of her shoes quiet on the ground as she stepped forward and into the light of a nearby street light.

"I’m not hiding" she said cooly, her face expressionless as she stared at the Squire for a moment "You’re interrupting."

She tightened her grip on her staff, a warning - albeit a small one - before launching herself forwards–

And whilst she hadn’t been planning on a fight and was perhaps being reckless in picking one, Reinerite was making an exception - because she hadn’t forgotten her last encounter with this particular knight and she owed this knight one.

No make it more than one once she factored in the extra time spent having to make up on the lost night of energy collection and the lies that she had had to come up with to explain away the bruise to her face that he had given her.

Quote:
“Good to know I’m interrupting.” Actually he was happy to know that, happy enough it brought a smile to his lips. He did hope whoever her victim was that they were ok, that she wasn’t the sort to pull starseeds. He didn’t know if she was, or wasn’t, and he doubted if he asked she’d tell...he also sort of didn’t want the answer to the question.

Looking over her staff, remembering the pain and bruises it caused last time, he knew he’d have to be mindful of it. He had a feeling she was still upset about their last encounter, and would take it out on him this time.

Watching as she launched herself at him he moved to the side intending to dodge her incoming attack. He was however a bit slow and caught her staff in his side. Wincing in pain he moved to punch her, aiming for her chest rather than her face, he was hoping to avoid his weapon at least for a little while.

“Nice to see you again…”

Quote:
The smile irritated her, although Reinerite tried not to let it show - at least not on her face. It was there however in the way that grey eyes narrowed and in the force with which she swung the snowglobed end of her staff–

Because Reinerite was aiming to cause damage - was aiming for payback in tenfold.

Her staff clipped him in the side, but he was quick to follow up - just as he had been last time.

"It isn’t" she said as she tried to bring her staff up in an attempt to block the incoming arm rather than the follow up swing that she had been planning the movement enough to whip up the snow inside the snowglobe into flurries.

"Not really" and a slight wince flickered briefly over her face at the strain that it put on her arms and on the tourney injuries that had not yet completely healed even as she tried to shift the staff forward in an awkward jab.

Quote:
Watching her face, and taking note of how she moved and reacted, he didn’t want to miss anything. The face, and body, told a lot of things a person never would vocally. She shouldn’t be wincing over the simple acts so far...no...something else had caused it, at least he thought as much.

Taking that into account, and hoping he was right, he wasn’t expecting the jab and it broke him from his thoughts. Grunting as air was pushed from his lungs, he’d black and blue or bruise from that, he moved to the side, using an arm to push her staff out of his way, and swung at her using the metal covered arm of his. If he had it he might as well use it as a weapon of sorts - right?

“Of course not. Stopped you from hurting people.” Of course she wasn’t happy to see him, why would she be? He was happy to see her though, so he could stop her.

Quote:
Any satisfaction that Reinerite may have had in the way how her forward jab had caught the knight was lost in the quiet but pained cry and resultant hiss of breath as his metal covered arm caught her in the side - a side that was still healing up from far too much abuse - abuse that ranged from being sliced up to the heavy bruising that had come about as a result of her painful collision with the edge of the arena during her final match of the tournament–

But it also brought the Squire up close - something that he should have learnt from before was not a good thing - at least when it came to her as she tried to kick out at him - although 'tried' was the operative word.

Quote:
Tried and managed to succeed at, he was too busy watching that weapon of hers. The kick had him stepping back, and shifting his weight a bit. Well..that was something to watch for. He was still trying to figure out if she favored one thing over the other, fists over feet or feet over fist...and weapon over both? If he could figure her out it would help him, and his family, in the long run.

Everyone whether they knew it or not did favor a way of fighting, at least he figured as much, so he was trying to figure her out.

When he went for her this time he made to grab at her wrist, an odd move but he had a reason, and then pulling her closer he aimed to hit his arm across the part of her arm where it bent at the elbow. Using the arm with the metal on it to hit her. He wanted to make bending and moving that joint painful for her, take out one arm as it were.

Quote:
As it happened Reinerite did have a preference and said preference was for her staff - and why wouldn’t she? She had gotten better at using it since her promotion, having forced herself to find time in her schedule to practice with it - and it did far more damage than the snowglobe that had been her first weapon - and far more than either her fists or feet alone–

But if an opportunity to use her feet came up then Reinerite saw no reason not to take it - to not take advantage of it.

It was just a shame that her shoes were better made for walking quietly than for stomping, the soles on them flats rather than the heels that would have been so much more painful.

As he stepped backwards, Reinerite stepped forward - fully intent on following through with another full swing of the staff with as much weight behind it as possible. She wasn’t expecting the forward lunge - had thought that the move towards forward-swing staff would put the Squire on the defensive–

Instead she was the one who ended up on the defensive - too close to avoid the hand that came reaching out for her as she tried to change tact and awkwardly bat the snowglobed end of the staff towards it in a move that her staff was not really suited for.

Quote:
Bringing his metal encased arm down, towards the inside of the captain’s elbow, the Squire didn’t try and hold back this time. This officer he knew wasn’t going back down unless he really dealt her some injuries, even if she might already be injured, she wasn’t some push over.

“Think you should go home.” He stated, hoping she might decide to take the hint. Between his words and his arm coming down onto the unprotected part of her arm he was hoping to drive home the idea of leaving. He doubted it would work though, but he’d hope for it.

She would, he figured, make a dangerous general whenever she advanced up in the Negaverse’s ranks. How they determined who was ready for more power...he didn’t know, and didn’t want to know. He just knew that the higher the rank the more power and more dangerous a person was.

Quote:
Reinerite, tried to choke back the pained cry but she was not entirely successful, the staff dropping from her fingers to clatter on the ground as the half-strangled cry escaped past her lips–

And she’d known that engaging in a fight would be reckless in her condition, particularly with this knight - especially with this knight.

She’d known it and had picked a fight anyway, because there was no way she could leave it, not after last time - not when she still had payback to dish out–

But she had barely managed to come up with an excuse to explain away her last set of injuries - and whilst the fact that she was not the favoured child out of her siblings in some way protected her, Reinerite was smart enough to know that it was only to an extent - and she couldn’t afford for her parents to take too much of an interest in her activities.

Not when her father was already unhappy at her decision to continue her 'studies' in the US, having expected her to return to the UK after the completion of her studies at Sovereign Heights–

The idea of retreating galled just as much as it had the last time around, but Reinerite wasn’t going to just leave it with a step back and teleport, instead balling her good arm - well okay make that the better arm - into a fist and aimed for the gut as swung out at the knight.

She was stepping back after completing the action however, stopping long enough to vanish her staff - and then as she had in their last encounter she was teleporting - one minute there and the next minute gone–

And one day Reinerite was going to get that knight and she was going to get that knight good - but for tonight her little 'parting' shot was just going to have to do.

Quote:
So maybe he’d figured he had won, that she would retreat, after hearing her reaction to the shot he’d taken at her arm. And he had gotten a bit ahead of himself. It was why he didn’t expect her parting shot and it was why he wound up doubled over with the air pushed out of his lungs, staring up at her through dark hair and equally dark lashes. That was not nice.

Watching her vanish, right after her weapon did, he would handle her next time he saw her...and the time after that. He’d look for her in battles and handle her. She wasn’t one he’d leave go in a battle.

Keeping a hold on hid midsection, he’d explain the bruises that were sure to form. He was lucky in that his family knew what he was, how could they not? He and Terry and Terry’s brother...all of them knights and his own elder cousin while his younger a senshi. There was no hiding it but they would understand injuries, it was a blessing in a way.

Seeing as he couldn’t teleport he had to head himself home. Heading for a safe place to power down he made his way home, as a civilian, wondering if Terry had felt anything from this encounter.
