Name: Soui
Age: 13
Sex: Female
Sexual Orientation: Heterosexual
Craft: Healercraft (general studies)
Rank: Apprentice
Location: Western Weyr
Physical Description: Soui is actually small for her age, standing usually about half a head shorter than her peers, and is made of knees and elbows. Skinny, but not stick-thin or unhealthy, she carries what little weight she has well. She has long, light brown hair that is usually worn in a braid or in a bun and has light brown eyes. Soui says she looks a lot like her mother.
Soui has two scars on her face; one is massive burn on the left side of her face, starting just below her eye and ending under her jaw, and the other is an angry wound that stretches over the middle of her face. The scars are very old, with the burn having mostly faded to an unpleasant birthmark-like look thanks to quick treatment, and the other stripe turning paler with each passing Turn. Soui isn't self-conscious abut her scars, often wearing her hair pulled back and her face fully visible.
Clothingwise, Soui prefers anything that fits well and that cleans easily. Being a healer, even just a brand new apprentice, can be a messy job and she likes clothes that can be stripped off quickly and don't stain. Most of her clothes are hand-me-downs from her older siblings, so Soui has likely never had brand new clothes of her own.
Personality: Ever since she was little, Soui has always been one to act above her age, or at least wiser beyond her years (without being arrogant or pretentious). Calm and quiet, with a little hint of sophistication, Soui tends to err on the side of caution and practicality. She doesn't like going into situations that she doesn't have all the information on, but that doesn't mean she hesitates and delays. Soui will move forward if she knows it is the right thing to do, if there are people who need her or need help, and she doesn't hesitate to leap when someone is in trouble.
Her desire to help others, perhaps due to her healer background and general family nature, has created a "you before me" mentality that leads Soui to being giving and kind. She loves to help people, even if it puts her at a disadvantage, and there is no task big or small that she won't do if it makes someone feel better or helps them in any way. Being a child she can't help with things like money, not that anyone would ever expect her to do, and she is easily taken advantage of by people who push tasks on to her, but Soui doesn't seem to outwardly mind. Today for you, tomorrow for me is a good motto, and one she often tries to live by.
When it comes to have a sense of humor, Soui got the short end of the stick. Literal and serious to a fault, to the point it often has to be explained to her that someone was joking and they didn't really mean whatever it was they said, puns and everything else are wasted on the young girl. All jokes have to be explained, puns get blank stares, and sarcasm is met with confused sincerity. As a result to having a poor sense of humor, pranks do not often land well with Soui and she fails to see the point of them, or any attempt at good-natured messing around. Practical jokers are perhaps Soui's least favorite type of people, and she actively avoids them because they are "ridiculous".
Perhaps worst of all, Soui is late. One could almost set a candle to how late she is, and it's not as though Soui does it on purpose. Easily distracted into trying to get things done before she needs to go somewhere, or simply getting the time wrong, she gets to where she is going....but never on time. This behavior does make it harder for people to count on her to be in a place she needs to be, or to do things before a deadline. In the world of healers, being prompt is a critical skill, and therefore this unwelcome trait of being late is a bad habit she must work to overcome.
Positive Trait List Mature, fearless, generous
Negative Trait List Overly serious, quite literal, habitually late
History: The youngest of five children, Soui was born and bred into the Healercraft. With a father and mother both well into their Journeyman stages, as well as several aunts and uncles, brothers and sisters, it was not a surprise that the young girl grew to love the craft. While not officially allowed to help in her younger Turns, Soui none the less tagged along at every opportunity and learned the ropes while being underfoot. Her curious nature and willingness to help her parents more or less endeared her to many healers, and she was mostly tolerated so long as she didn't cause trouble.
The accident that caused the burns and scars to her face happened when Soui was four turns old; she'd been chasing one of the firelizards belonging to a friend when she ran into a prep room. Unfocused and distracted, Soui knocked into a massive cauldron that was being used to prep salve, and as a result the contents (and the pot) landed on top of her. Her face and neck received awful burns, as did the palms of her hands and some of her chest, but thankfully she was spared extreme damage thanks to the quick response time of those in the room. Her hands healed with little to no scars, as did much of her chest, and the only remnants of the incident show on her face. That, and her parents forbidding her from ever owning a firelizard.
The Turns after the incident passed uneventfully, with Soui getting permission to officially become an apprentice under the tutelage of her uncle, Pem. She thrived under his instruction. Soui came to Western right after the last hatching, in order to help her uncle deal with the injuries caused by the dragonets. With no real goal to leave until her uncle does, she spends her time helping sick and injured Weyrfolk, all the while learning that life is really, really different here.
Other: Soui is Pem's niece! She is his older sister's youngest daughter! She is also related to Tsuyat (with permission from Hattaki!) They're cousins!
(Soui will be of age for the next hatching)
