He remembered Chrysocolla from last year's tournament; a scrappy, feisty senshi who had, it seemed grown a great deal from their previous encounter. She'd made it this far, to the end of the tournament, which was certainly saying something and was rather impressive in and of itself.

Aurostibite would not give her the insult of going easier on her just because she didn't have a weapon. Both of his own were summoned, both his cape and outer jacket discarded, Aurostibite in his dress shirt with his hair pulled back into a ponytail at the base of his neck, hat lifted to be able to see her more.

A nod was given to acknowledge the start of the match, and then he lunged, an arm swinging out, scalloped edge aiming for Chrysocolla's side.

Starting at about halfway through her fight with Pyrophanite, Chrysocolla's default e xpression (whenever she wasn't actively attempting to murder someone mid-fight, which was perhaps alarmingly often) had fallen into the pout of 'I don't want to be here'; it had only intensified post-fights into somewhat of an actual sulk. Getting back into the ring for the final round had lightened her up a little, but she was still nursing more puncture wounds and stitches than she normally got in a month.

Aurostibite was fast - so was she - but she was smaller, weaker, softer. The blades cut through the side of her tunic, the bottom line of her corset, and came away with her blood wet on the metal. That hurt, it really did - Chrysocolla clapped a hand to her side, backing away warily, and didn't approach yet.

Both smaller and younger were useless qualifiers in Aurostibite's book. Just because someone was smaller and younger didn't indicate whether they were capable or not. He'd had this very conversation - or thought, rather - about Jet, and while sometimes Jet was still aggravating, he hadn't been promoted on a whim.

Just as Chrysocolla hadn't made it to Eternal on a whim. Underestimation was a trap that many Negaverse agents fell into, and the same went for Order side; he was not going to let himself into those steel teeth again. Aurostibite stepped back, readjusting his footing, and swept forward again, sweeping a wide arc with one of the blades.

She was tired and it was making her weak, making her helpless; this time Chrysocolla dodged but the blade still cut an arc up her arm (the same arm the hand pressed to her side belonged to), pain lightning-bright in her mind. Useless. Helpless. Were the last three rounds a ******** fluke?

They weren't a fluke. She wasn't useless. She wasn't like this. The kick Chrysocolla lashed out with was glancing, but at least it was something.

Keyite was watching his General's performance in the final round, it was only fitting that he do so. The senshi was one he also knew somewhat - she was one of his students - he recognized her at least. She's not doing well in French, I believe...hmmm.

In his lap was a stack of papers to be graded, even with the tournament event going on, Keyite had his Romano's work to be taking care of, so of course the grading came with him - especially since he'd not advanced.

His General was having a very one-sided battle with the diminutive senshi, which was unfortunate. Perhaps he could do something to incentivise her? The paper in his lap had been docked ten points, that wasn't too bad. She could really use it - would that be worth shoring up against the imposing officer for her? Only one way to find out.

"Chrysocolla!" He called to her, using the papers to help funnel his voice, "If you defeat the General, I'll give you ten bonus points in French."

There, that would either help or it wouldn't. It was the thought that counted, right? Something like that.

The final rounds as it were, at least for two of the divisions. Maybe three? Titanlåvenite’s attention to the exacts had lapsed keeping to his usual scheduled necessities after watching Moonstone’s bout. He’d arrived only a bit late of the start, at least. He gave nod to no one, affirming his choices to himself, then made the brisk, long-legged walk through the cathedral to Laurelite’s offices. A Knock and ask after her hours, invitation made, and offer to be her escort, and in pleasant, glorious surprise, she agreed. The large general beamed larger, getting any doors and trying to pace his stride as elegantly as he could manage to hers.

When they reached the seating section she seemed to want, he unbelted his own armored coat to lay lining-up with a clatter of leather and scales on the chosen chair. It wasn’t much of a help to a movable, folding sort of chair, but it was Necessary for a Queen, for their Queen. Titan thought it likely that she knew everyone by name, but also as a matter of traditions spoke the exacts of information for her softly, “It is Eternal Chrysocolla who matches against the host, General Aurostibite, My Queen.”

“Any refreshment, my Queen?” Since there were beverages and snacks and bandages, energy orbs and starseeds, and all things needed for keeping combatants in fighting order through all the rounds already provided, the Strongman assumed that if any was wanted by the Queen in the stands it would not be grudged her. Her battles were for them all, every day, and in many arena.

Thank you~ Please enjoy the break, Laurels

He was aware that Keyite was in the audience; Aurostibite had caught sight of his lieutenant off to the side, only a passing glimpse before Chrysocolla's foot made contact with his leg and sent him staggering abruptly sideways. He drew himself up again, now actually hearing Keyite instead of seeing him.

The only sign that Aurostibite had heard this ludicrous attempt at cheering was a tightening of his mouth in exasperation. He flipped one of the blades around and twisted sideways, aiming a vertical strike this time that was meant to hit somewhere around Chrysocolla's shoulder.

His aim was slightly off.

"I'm not doing that badly in French," Chrysocolla protested to Keyite with a voice pulled taut by pain, and half-stepped out of the way of Aurostibite's strike - the blood was turning her glove red, and she needed both arms, but it couldn't hurt to keep one pressed against the wound in her side for just a moment longer, right? (Everyone was so tall. It was easier to fight people her height. Easier than this, at least. There was so much chance of overbalancing - she'd liked fighting Pyrophanite more, really, since they had both clawed at each other with the same spiteful desperation - but everyone was so tall. Maybe that was the exhaustion talking. She probably didn't need to push it with any more teleporting.)

She didn't look to the stands, even when Titanlåvenite's voice made itself known (was that Queen Laurelite?????), but moved far closer and struck at Aurostibite again, one fist contacting his lower stomach. She didn't need to fight so dirty. If she could just turn one of his weapons against him, like she had in the prior fights, everything would be fine.

The corrupt senshi's protest that her scores in French weren't that bad were met with a sort of raised eyebrow and head shake. While Poppy certainly wasn't the worst off in her class - nor in fact the pupil most likely to flunk the entire course itself - she could certainly use the points. Otherwise he wouldn't have offered. Ah, but she hadn't gotten her last test back, had she? No, that would make quite the difference, now wouldn't it.

Of course, he noticed when the massive General Titanlåvenite entered, bringing with him their Revered and Glorious Queen Laurelite, so he didn't direct further vocalizations towards Chrysocolla's claim. It was incredible to see her at an event like this, and his heart absolutely thrilled for Aurostibite.

Win or lose, their Queen was observing! What an amazing honor it would be to perform for her! Chrysocolla too-- suddenly, Keyite was hit by jealousy that he'd not managed to make it to the final rounds...and also relief that he had not. He would have made a poor showing for vaunted Laurelite's viewing.

At least between the corrupt eternal and his general, the Queen would have a decent show.

Keyite rose to his feet and knelt, right hand brought across his breast to honor Her gracing the Tournament as a representative of his general. Manners maketh man. Only when she had been seated herself would he reclaim his own and return to his work.

He wasn't so vicious that he enjoyed seeing the red on Chrysocolla's sleeve, staining her glove. But this was a fight, and he did enjoy that; the thrill of adrenaline, the rush of his heartbeat in his ears, the way it felt to really push himself past the rigor of movement to find his place.

Keyite was, for the most part however, not helping, but he wasn't as bad as Kainite would have been. Aurostibite sent a silent prayer to the gods for that small mercy and felt Chrysocolla hit him across the stomach, his breath hissing painfully out of him.

For a small girl, she hit hard. He turned on his heel and caught sight of a hulking man in the spectator's ring, doting on -

Well, then. He had to concentrate. It wasn't worth getting distracted by, but it was a slight boost to his pride that Laurelite had come to watch even at all, Aurostibite pivoting as he swung an arm out, blade horizontal and intended to strike across Chrysocolla's legs.

Chrysocolla didn't even offer a call of pain on that one, managing a series of shuddering breaths instead as she stumbled and half-dropped to the ground, very precisely aware of the blood on her tights and the open wounds it was coming from. If she thought about it for the half-a-second she was permitted, this was really the first time she'd been in a fight like this, where the opponent had blades and she had nothing - but there wasn't any time to dwell on that, not when her fuku was getting progressively redder by the second, gold lining drowned out - she could hear her heartbeat in her ears.

It sounded loud. This entire place was too loud. Everyone here was too loud.

Holding that position wasn't going to happen, but Chrysocolla could do her best to maintain it. She snarled "Warhol Mood Refraction," removing a hand from her side to catch the orb as it formed, and shoved it right into Aurostibite's thigh as she pulled at his leg hard. Let him hit the floor. Please. He's got to. I need him to fall so I can do something, anything - please.

kuropeco
This attack temporarily reverses the enemy's primary emotion for twenty seconds; i.e., bravery to cowardice. Unlike Warhol Mood Reversal, this attack cannot be shaken off prior to the natural timeout, even if the enemy realizes their emotions have been affected.

Laurelite seemed in relatively good spirits despite the disruption; a break from her work was something she seemed to rarely consider, but if ever she was going to take break from it, it might as well have been to engage in frivolities like this.

She smiled at Titanlåvenite and took her seat gratefully. “No, I’m quite all right, thank you. I’m always so grateful to have you, you are always so considerate, Titanlåvenite. I haven’t been able to observe anything like this in quite a while.” For better or worse, they hadn’t seen any major battles in some time, and she had been confined to her office and seeing to Metallia’s needs. It was a full time job, and one she always fulfilled to the best of her abilities.

She raised a hand in Keyite, pleased with the greeting. Laurelite expected only so much from a group composed of so many teenagers, but she still appreciated the formalities when they were offered.

Laurelite’s gaze found the competitors; she watched both Chrysocolla and Aurostibite keenly for a few seconds while she waited for Titanlåvenite to settle himself and then leaned closed and asked quietly, “Are you rooting for either of them in particular?”

He'd managed a solid blow, one that had caused a clear slice of red across Chrysocolla's upper thighs. It was meant to slow her down, to keep her from moving as fast as she could, because the disadvantage to fighting senshi was that they had magic and he did not.

As evidenced a second later, as she shoved something small and glowing into his leg.

Aurostibite staggered back, feeling a wash of dizziness spin around him, blinking to try and clear some of his thoughts. The sense of determination that had driven him forward was now ebbing away, slipping and sliding into a feeling of lackluster apathy that made him not want to fight back, that made him instead want to just...give up.

General-Queen Laurelite was here, and so was one of his lieutenants, which should have made a difference, but it didn't. Aurostibite wavered, brows drawing together in consternation, and his next sweep was halfhearted at best, a slow sweep towards Chrysocolla's arm.

The human body, Chrysocolla was observing, held a lot more blood than she'd thought - maybe that was just because it looked so distinct against the rest of her, or maybe that was just because it felt like she'd lost a lot of it. Everything hurt, with nothing really more electric than the rest; she just needed to finish this up and. Sit down. Stop fighting for a little while.

She would have attacked Aurostibite, but her legs gave out on her and she dropped fully into a kneeling position, wincing - no, no, he's under the magic, I have to - it was too hard, to focus through the blood. She didn't know what it was like, to hurt like this; it was safer to learn this way, where there was aid just around the corner, but that didn't mean the gashes hurt any less.
