Melvin sat in bed in his door after work, taking a break before he went back to his house. As he laid there, he texted October. It was easier to text and meet here then have the lethargic man roll his way to towns. kuropeco Text to: OctoberHey October. Wanted to talk to you about something. Is it cool if I come over?

He responded after about ten minutes, which for October, was relatively fast.MoonKitsune Text to Melvin:

Tossing his legs over his bed, he grabbed his coat and left his door, locking it behind him. He knew Fred had the key in case he needed to get in. Heading down, he knocked twice on October's door lightly (in case he fell back asleep) and opened the door slowly. Easing it open and then closing the door slowly and softly behind him.
"Hey October. Have a minute?"

Surprisingly, October hadn't fallen asleep. Unsurprisingly, he didn't get up when Melvin came in, and instead just rolled over to blink sleepily at him, in spite of not actually having been asleep before.
"All the minutes," he said with a yawn. "Is something wrong?"

"No, nothing is wrong." He said, moving over to sit down on the bed next to him as October remained comfortable - not that that was a challenge for him. He could be tossed in a mine field and still have the lowest blood pressure of anyone.
"I wanted to ask you something. See, I just finished my house. It's nice and plenty big but......it's big. I talked about it with Nash and, well, do you love your dorm room or not?"

October resisted a strong urge to drag Melvin down for cuddles. Cuddles were important, but so was talking, and clearly Melvin had something he needed or wanted to talk about, so that took precedence.
He blinked up at him instead, brows drawing together. A half sort of shrug was given.
"It's a dorm room," said October. "So not really much to love."
He gestured vaguely around the place, as if to indicate the not really much. "Why do you ask? Congratulations on your house, by the way."

Melvin smiled at being congratulated and then looked around. The problem with October was that he could be comfortable anywhere so he wasn't sure if he was the type to want to live in towns.
"Thank you, and ti's actually my house I wanted to talk about. You see........well, I almost always have had someone with me. My house is nice but...it's a house with just me in it. It's...very quiet. I mean I like it don't get me wrong. It's just....do you like your dorm or....would you like living in a house?"

There was a moment in which October just blinked up at Melvin, slow and sleepy.
"You mean...live with you?" he asked.

There was a long pause while October processed this, because processing things sometimes took a significant amount of effort he currently did not possess.
"Like...in a house," he said, after a moment. "With like, a room."

Melvin was slowly starting to deflate, feeling that the prolonged questioning was slowly becoming a realization of something more and more distasteful.
"Y..Yeah. A room. With access to a bathroom and kitchen. The only downside is the walk from towns to any departments. I'm...not the best cook so I can't make anything gourmet. I just..."
He took a breath. "You were always very kind to me and accepting. You never seem to judge and are accepting. I don't feel like you are going to stab me in the back or try to squeeze me dry for anything. I also don't like being alone. But - I guess you should also know Nash might come over but I'll work on soundproofing so things don't get weird."
"But....you don't have to say yes. It's a choice. I won't hate you or anything. Your decision won't change my idea of you."

He listened silently, watching Melvin's shoulders sink, feeling the strange sort of despondency settle over the room. October did, in fact, know what November had been doing with Melvin all this time - or sort of, but he preferred knowing without all the salacious details - but that so far wasn't even a factor in things.
Lonely, his mind supplied.
After a moment, October shuffled over a little on the bed, patting the space beside him wordlessly. He'd been laying atop the blankets, rather than under him, and the bed wasn't exactly a queen sized, but there was still enough room if they squeezed.
"Sure," he said. "I'll be your roommate. Housemate?"

It was a invitation he was always grateful for and even more comfortable with the countless times since he first napped with October. Moving over, he laid down beside him and moved in close.
"Yeah. Housemate. I'll help with whatever you need for your room." He said, curling into him. A rare flash of happiness passed through him as he reached around October and hugged him.

An arm looped around Melvin as Melvin burrowed close, October welcoming the warmth. Intimacy on another level was a whole different question, but this was something else, something that, in the back of October's mind, was a necessity he didn't quite know how to put into words. Comfort, perhaps, that stemmed from physical contact, but that wasn't quite right, either.
He set it aside, resting his chin atop Melvin's head.
"A room sounds nice," said October musingly. "I don't think I've ever even been out to the towns. Have you been working on your place long?"

It was warm and soft, and if it had been anyone else, he might have pushed the intimacy further. But October was a safe comfort torn away from any awkwardness or worrying about what it all meant.
"Yeah. I did what I could. Contracted what I had to. Been painting rooms now. Filling things with furniture. Runicing appliances again. All over again. It's nice.....I found the one with the view of the ocean through the jungle. Where you can see the lighthouse further off."
It had been the only reason he picked the location.
