Maxine Laglasse

She listened to Joong's encouragements. It was true that she knew the steps, but would she be able to preform with everyone else. It was going to be a preformance like no other tomorrow, and Maxine's heart pounded everytime she thought about it. And him. He caused her heart to beat like a hummingbird, and her breath to be lost like a thought. He pulled her onto his lap and Maxine got lost in the moment. Blood rushed to her cheeks like fire, and she held her breath as he leaned in to kiss her. He told her to trust him, but there were many different types of trust, and Maxine was finding it more difficult to not let her heart trust him, even though her dancing soul already did. The kiss intensified, his touched burned her skin, and Max lost all contact with reality as his hands danced around her. Then, he pulled away, and Max's consciousness returned as fast as a bullet flies from a gun. He placed her back on the couch and took a few steps back. Maxine distanced herself as well, running her hands through her now very messy curly brown hair. He made a point about dance partners not being together, and how it complicated things and Maxine couldn't agree more... But why was it that when he was saying these things Max felt her heart break. Joong was just one of those guys, she reminded herself, that's meant to break your heart. When he left Maxine simply went to the bed room, closed her eyes, and willed herself to sleep.

He was so warm. Warmer than she was in this freezing a$s apartment, and she made a groan of compliant when he got up and left the bed. She curled her body around where the left over warmth was and fell asleep again, her lungs filling up with his sent. She heard some muffled yelling and groaned again; she was never going back to sleep was she? She rubbed her eyes, and looked around at her surroundings. When she heard the door open again she smiled and closed her eyes, feeling Joong kiss her lips. He greeted her in French, so she replied with Bon Matin mon loup. You certainly look like an honest business man. What happened to the bad boy? She teased, pulling herself out of bed and stretching. She looked at the bag that was thrusted towards her and looked at the contents as she heard Joong's warning about their time restraints. She took out the clothes and quickly dressed, pulling her hair into a side bun, and grabbing makeup from her bag to fix up the blemishes and adding color to her pale face. When she deemed herself ready she walked outside, slipping into her dance shoes and avoiding Carly's death glaze. She felt sheepish, she shouldn't have slept over. Carly was obviously angry, and it be better if Maxine avoided her.

I know I do. She said cockily, as he took her hand she followed him out, and placed her stuff into her van. It was hot, and Maxine frowned. Nothing grosser than a soupy warm van this early in the morning. She opened all the windows, and started the van as Joong got into the car. It was when he started to sing that Maxine's slightly foul mood was lifted. He was a better singer than she was, and she laughed as she drove, a large smile forming on her face. He made her feel like she could do anything. Oh, sweetheart, consider this future blackmail if you ever drop me. She laughed again.

Maxine jumped when she heard the other voices, and felt someone put something on her head. Eep! She giggled again, eventually taking a few deep breaths to calm herself down. She found Taylor, the girl who had taught her all the moves from yesterday, and excitedly talked to her about the performance. Taylor seemed nice, and had a good head on her shoulders. She wanted to go to Mme. Parkin's school, like Joong and Maxine, and Maxine had promised to get her an audition. A little thanks for helping her learn the moves before the performance today. You know, I'd stay away from Joong. She said with a bit of a tone. Maxine crossed her arms and gave a defensive look. Not saying that you're getting too close, but if you plan on staying in the group... Carly has a habit of pushing people under water if she feels like she's going to drown. She'll find anyway to stay near Joong. At least that's what I've seen. And anyways, he won't be interested in a while..." Maxine turned away, her foul mood resurfacing. Although from what she had observed in the past twenty four hours, Taylor did seem to have a point.

Maxine went to her assigned seat, and started the dance as per instructed. Joong had been right, once she was in the zone nothing seemed to interest her more than dancing. And when she remembered it was time to bail, she followed suit. She threw Joong the keys and quickly ran to the passenger's side. The drove back to the dance studio and Maxine got out, thankful that they had arrived safely. She looked around to see if the police were around before laughing hard. It was awesome. I can't wait to... Would she be part of the next one? Was it even worth it if she stayed in the group if she and Joong weren't going to be partners after the competition? It was very fun. Thank you for giving me the opportunity. I look forward to learning more from the group. She chose her words wisely, not wanting to hurt his feelings.

Joong started to strip and Maxine felt her eyes stay on him like glue. Why did he have to be like gravity, drawing her towards him. She tore her eyes away as she started to undress, leaving the dress shirt on and slipping into a skirt, tucking the shirt in. She looked at herself in the window as she nodded in approval. She was always cute, but today she looked sexy. Maybe it was the sleep over that made her feel like that. Maxine blushed when he showed her what was under his shirt. He walked up to her, taking her hat off her head and throwing it into the open window of her car. He kissed her, and took off her shirt as Maxine blushed. She bit the inside of her lip as she rolled her eyes and headed into the studio, following his lead and hoping no one in the studio was watching.

She listened to him name off many styles and smiled devishly. "You're going to learn contemporary. Because I've never seen a man who likes passion fail at it. Its basically sex without sex. Well, making love instead of f uckin g. Well, you know what I mean. She teased, plugging her iPod into the speakers and doing some warm up exercises.

Maxine patiently taught him dance moves and stances. He taught her patience, because his annoying comments. She knew they were due to frustration, and she understood completely; she felt the same with his style. Towards lunch time she saw he was running out of energy. It took a lot out of people to dance with the a new style and learning it in one day. If you can put it all together, everything I've taught you, we can quit for the rest of the day. Because you've been a saint." She said as she flipped through all of her songs until she found the song she wanted. The song (and the dance) were the most intimate she had ever danced in a long time. She whispered words of encouragement in his ear, when ever she got close enough too, and when they were done she found her lips at his.

                      She should have pulled away.

It would have been smart of her to run away.

But her feelings demolished her logic and Maxine's lips had found their way to attach themselves to Joong's. She only pulled away when she heard giggles from the open door, her sister and Marcus looking at them. That was great! Oh Joong, you've improved so much today! She kissed him on the cheek and turned her body towards her sister and old partner. He learned that all in one day! Wasn't it fantastic! If happiness could be contagious, everyone would feel it radiate off her. She was more excited in that moment than she had been in the past year! Oh, Marcus and Kate; this is my partner Joong. Joong, this is my sister and friend Marc. She said as she walked over to them.

We just came to see if you're doing alright. I mean, you never came home last night, and Marcus said you weren't there. Her sister said, watching her younger sister with a hawk eye.

I was out. I am allowed to live my life, and I certainly wasn't at Marc's place. So just chill. Maxine said, glaring at the pair of them.

Well, Max, we just wanted to make sure the Street King was taking care of you like the royalty you are. Wow, now Maxine understood where the hosility that Joong had for her group came from.

He's treating me better than you ever did as my partner. Leave. She stated, taking a few steps towards Joong. You're both just jealous that he and I are going to the competition and you aren't.

The brunette watched the fighting escalate.... How could two men she cared about be having a pissing match? Weren't they all a little to old for that? Marcus, stop it. Why are you being so rude to him! She asked, Maxine's face flushing from anger. So Joong was the one who beat Marcus to a pulp... He was the reason she had been a solo dancer for so long. In all honesty, she should have thanked Marcus. His stupidity was the reason that Maxine was with Joong now; and if she knew what kind of a jack as$ he was, Maxie would have ignored Marcus long ago. Then, like a flash of lightening, the two titans broke out in a brawl, catching Kate and Maxine by surprise. The sisters nodded to each other, and looked for a point of entry.

Maxine grabbed Joong's shoulder's and pulled him away, placing herself in between the two idiotic creatures. There was a moment of serenity, everyone's panting filled the room. That was, until Marcus opened his mouth and caused the raging bull of Joong's ego to try to plow through to get in another attack. Stop it. He's stupid, leave him. Maxine begged. She just wanted to disappear, staying in place as everyone picked their directions of retreat. She watched Joong grab his things, tears filling her eyes. He couldn't leave, they were partners!

"No, stay. I will just leave, since to you people. Street Garage doesn't belong at your stuck up, rich school." He yelled, and Maxine felt like her heart was shattering. She sunk to the floor, putting her hands on her face and letting self let go of the pain. Ignoring her sister and friend, she crawled to her bag and shakily grabbed her phone. She called, texted, emailed, anything to get to him... He ignored them all...

                      [time skip]

It had been almost a week and a half; Maxine hadn't spoken much. Her alarm went off, and she'd stare at it, before sighing and rolling out of bed. She slipped on a sports bra and an overly large t-shirt, searching her drawers until she found the perfect pair of shorts. It was too hot now to run to the studio, and too hot to practice in a leotard. Another morning, another day to practice alone in the studio. Maybe it was time for her to go get Joong. She had given him space, she had cried herself to sleep, she was done with it. It was time for him to get off his lazy a** and come back.

She put her hair in a high ponytail, making it look shorter than normal, and put black eyeliner on. She needed something to make the bags under her eyes look smaller. She packed her bag for the day and headed down the stairs. She kissed her father good morning and kindly ignored everyone else in the room. Where are you going today? Maybe Kate and Marcus could join you, you haven't spoken to any of them yet this week. Her attention flashed to her traitorous sister and Maxine gave a wicked smile. And at least take an apple before you leave, I swear you haven't eaten anything since last week. Maxie frowned, taking an apple and making a deliberate bite. She'd been eating, but being around her sister and her friend, or anything that remotely reminded her of Joong made her sick to the point that nothing stayed down anymore.

Mais Papa, haven't you heard? Kate doesn't like how I'm competing nationally this year. She and Marcus are jealous little children, and I refuse to speak to either of them until they grow up. She said matter-of-factually, receiving a snicker from her father. She smiled again and took the van to Joong's apartment.

She found her way and knocked loudly. It was early, but he had missed a week of practices, and it wasn't fair. An old lady opened her door from across the hall and asked what Maxine was doing. Well, if you are looking for him, his girlfriend came in about a half an hour ago to get him for some dance practice he was late for. So he had time to practice with everyone in his clique, but not her? She looked herself over, and decided that she looked good enough to face everyone again. She thanked the lady again and returned to her van again.

It took her a while to remember where Joong's click met, and sighed when she heard the music playing. Well, if the music was there, so was Joong. And Carly. She sat in the car for a few more minutes... Carly would probably rip her head off for how Joong was treated. She sighed, knowing that no matter what came next, she deserved. She followed the path that she and Joong had walked before, remembering how warm his hand was, and how nicely it fit with her hand. She walked in quietly, slipping down a corner not to interrupt the dance that she saw ahead of her. There in the center was Joong and Carly, dancing too close for her comfort.

I wouldn't be here, if I were you Frenchie. Carly made sure you've been banned for how you treated our boy. Taylor whispered as she approached the brunette. Run, before the Queen chops off your head. Joong's hers.

I thank you for the advice, but the only person who can make me leave is Joong. If he's going to quit on me, I need him to say it to my face, not ignore me. Maxine said, silently realizing that she sounded like a lost puppy.

The apartment smells like morning dew, with a warm light coming from a side window. The clock on the wall quietly ticks away and a body stirred on the couch, laying in a heap in a corner. She raised her head slowly and groaned uncomfortably. The red hair was in a messy bun that had slumped to the side of her head. The body It stumbled to the bathroom, and hissed when it turned on the light. It shield its eyes until they adjusted and it groaned. Another audible noise could be heard when the blonde looked into the mirror. Make up circled her eyes, giving her a raccoon appearance, while the smudged lipstick made her think of the Joker. She plugged her phone into the wall charger and it brightly came back to life. “Wow. It’s late.” She commented, her voice hoarse from deep breathing. She had a few text messages, and a few emails. For an artist, she felt like she had a social life, but when you have amazing friends like hers, this was a daily activity.

“Ah!” She exclaimed, hating to be late for anything, and although it was only ten she wanted to see Luca tonight. She brushed her teeth and washed away the makeup that had painted her face yesterday, swearing to herself that she would never sleep in her make up again. Amelia had dragged Drew to the beach in the wee hours of the morning for a walk, he was still up studying, and she had been up late painting for a project. Her mind briefly fluttered to a dream she had a few days ago about Drew, but she brushed it off. No time to think of silly dreams, especially since the two of them have significant others.

Once she had somewhat of a clean pallet to work with, the girl made quick work of her hair. Once it was organized into a neat bun atop her head, she moved to the face. Opting out for simple and quick makeup techniques that could help her save time. She wanted to look professional, since she knew that she'd be seeing Alexa later that day, and if she didn't have any make up on she'd be lectured by her best friend. "Siri, make a reminder for me to tell Alexa about make up ideas for the block party later this week. She hummed under her breath to her phone. It chirped back to her and she smiled.

She rushed to her room and picked up her gym bag, and fished out her outfit for the day. Green eyes darted to the door across the room. It was open a crack, but based on the absolute silence, Amelia assumed that Drew wasn't awake yet. She slipped her skirt on under her I heart NY shirt. Her sleeping shirt was so big, it went to her knees. A gift from Luca after they had gone to New York for their first anniversary. She quickly switched shirts and sighed that she had managed to get away with stealthily getting dressed in Drew's living room. One day, she figured, he'd walk in and see her midway through changing, not that she'd mind anyways. The rest of her night sky outfit. She slipped on her 'smart' glasses, and mary jane styled heels and walked to the kitchen.

                                    Grabbing an apple from the kitchen counter, she cut it into slices and opened the fridge to see make Drew a lunch for work. Amelia made quick work of a few lunch meat slices and assorted vegetables. Placing it on a plate, she grabbed a loose piece of loose leaf;

                                    xoxDrew,
Off to go work on art and see Luca,
I'll be there at two, so that I can make sure your popcorn
is delicious enough for the movie tonight.
                                    Ex's and Oh's,
                                    Mia

Proud of her note, she quickly doodled an anatomically correct heart on the page and put it under a magnet on the fridge. Eating the rest of the apple quickly, she washed her dishes and left them in the sink. Here, she could let Drew do the other half of the work. Unlike at home where it was implied that dishes went back where they belonged.

She grabbed her overnight bag and her beanie on the ground and continued her morning routine, as of late, of sneaking into her place that she shared with Alexa and Daniel. For the first few months she'd split her time evenly between the Twins' apartment and her own, but now it seemed to be split in thirds with Drew's apartment. Amelia had always found her creativity would spark more around Drew, they're adventures and the late night bottles of wine.

                                    Leaving the apartment, she put her beanie on to help control the insanity of her curls. No amount of dry shampoo would save her hair from the curly mess it was misbehaving as. The drive through town was surprisingly quick, but at eleven o'clock on a Wednesday she had no other expectations. Amelia parked the car and stopped dead in her tracks when she heard a text message pop up. Reading it quickly, she lazily responded;

                                    To; Bestest
                                    From; Amelia
No ma'am. Just was up working late.
I'll be down in a minute.

                                    She knew if she sneaked in through the kitchen door, she'd be golden. Alexa would probably be getting ready to go see Kyle, so she wouldn't even notice Amelia sneaking in. Stopping briefly before getting to the door to text Luca;

                                    To; Luca
                                    From; Amelia
                                    Hey handsome,
Want to do something this morning? Coffee and cookies at the cafe?

                                    To; Group Chat
                                    From; Amelia
Anyone want to see a movie tonight?

Satisfied with the messages she locked her phone and slipped it into her Luna Cat purse. She opened the door silently, only allowing the click of the door to be heard. Proud of a flawless entrance she danced around silently until she saw a dark brown fluff ball staring at her. "Oh fck me." She groaned when he started to excitedly bark now that his favorite aunt was home. She leaned down and gave her nephew a pet, knowing if Teddy was down here, Lexi would be too. She followed the small pitter pats of Teddy's feet with clicks of her heels to see Lexi lounging around in a sea of green. "Morning." She mumbled, hoping to sound more tired than embarrassed.

Rachel was always the silent type. She avoided problems, unless they were too bitchy to ignore. It made her invisible. People didn’t know who she was, and she avoided anyone who she deemed too stupid to talk too. She made it to college with a small little ‘clique’ of close friends, and everything was normal. Too be honest everything was going her way until she first heard them. At first she assumed they were whispers in the hallway. Claiming she was stupid, worthless, and couldn’t even take care of herself. She finished her exams quickly, and slipped away home, thinking the voices would stay. But the voices got louder, and then things started to change. The TV would talk to her, her food looked poisoned, and everyone was whispering behind her back… Or so she thought.

It wasn’t though. The voices eventually drove her to hiding under her covers, screaming into her pillow trying to drown out the noises. Rachel? She heard the nurse say her name, and her attention returned to the scrubbed lady. Messy blonde hair, pudgy, rosy cheeked, the nurse looked sweet. You know not to drink alcohol, right? Rachel nodded, no illegal drugs, no alcohol. Essentially, Rachel was going to be the DD for the rest of the semester. She sighed, and angled her shoulder downwards so that the nurse could stab her with her drugs.

Can you tell me about your meds, Rachel shot the nurse a look, she didn’t want to waste her afternoon explaining the cocktail that the Doc had prescribed her to return to school with. It’s policy at this hospital. I know Reflections didn’t make you do it, but you’re our patient now. Rachel rolled her eyes and sat down, gaining a raised eye brow from the nurse.

Well, I’m on Invega, it’s a long acting antipsychotic. I come here every twenty eight days to get my injection, or the police come to school and bring me back to the looney bin. I take Cogentin so that I don’t drool all over myself and shake like a looser. Anything else? She asked, her ice blue eyes looked annoyed to the nurse. The nurse shook her head, located Rachel’s deltoid, and stabbed her with the needle. Rachel winced, it was a big needle, and an annoying burning sensation. She held took the cotton swab from the nurse and held it to the injection site after the nurse pulled it up. Her eyes drifted towards the plexiglass separating her from the other crazies. Although she wasn’t sick… not like these people, not any more. More than two months without any Auditory Hallucinations, no Suicidal ideation, and her sass and bitchiness were back in full swing.

After another set of vitals from the annoying beeping machine, Rachel was released back into the general public, with the promise of seeing that nurse again in another month. She sighed, and contemplated having a cigarette. They used to be the only way she could get off the locked ward, and she hadn’t wanted one since she was released, but the feeling of the ward looming over seemed to have that affect over her. She bummed a f** off of a patient and asked of a light, tasting the sweet nicotine tickle down her throat. Thank God this was something she could still have now that she was on the proper meds.

She walked down the street, flipping through her iPhone to see her texts. There were about seven from Maddie informing her that they were going to the party tonight, and that Rache had no choice in the matter. She also included that Arlo was going… That changed Rachel’s idea. She shot a text back.

                                                  To;; Maddie – The Wife
Mess;; hmmm, I guess. I’ll drag Max too.
Need someone to hang with when you get
                                                  Too drunk.

                                                  To;; Maxie
Mess;; We’re being dragged out tonight
Don’t leave me alone to carry Maddie
And Arlo home. Peas and Carrots?

She texted quickly, flicking the butt of her cigarette away. She hailed a taxi, and started towards the dorm. She got to the room she shared with Maddie, making note to be quiet in case of Maddie sleeping, but she was welcomed by silence and an empty room. She pouted, Maddie always did her hair better than Rache ever could. She slipped on a black crop top with three quarter length sleeves to hide the happy face band aid from before. She slipped on a galaxy skirt, and her gladiator heels. She examined herself in the floor length mirror on her side of the room. Although she wasn’t thin, she held a nice hour glass figure. She smiled at herself, before fixing up her hair and makeup.

Once she decided she looked okay, she pulled out her phone again to check her messages. She frowned, KG had sent a new message. That b***h needed to leave her and her friends alone already. What did they ever do to her? Her friends were probably some of the better people at the college anyways. She slipped on her amethyst ring, and finished her outfit with a few chockers. She let her hair loose, curls falling every which way. She ran her fingers through, enjoying the nice sensation, and laughing at the sex hair it gave her. She decided to leave it messy, knowing someone would fix it if it looked bad.

Curious as to where her best friend was, she headed off to Arlo’s apartment, they had been hanging out a lot lately. Maybe they were seeing each other? Nah, Maddie could obviously tell that Rachel liked Arlo. She didn’t even try to hide it. Maybe Maddie was trying to hook her and Arlo up. She was such a good friend.

                                                  To;; Arlo
Mess;; Hey, Almost at your apt.
I feel like you have my wife
                                                  And I want her back.

She teased and smiled as she sent off the message. She smiled at the janitor and pressed the button to call the elevator. Rachel played with her ring until she heard the familiar ring that told her to step into the elevator. She walked to Arlo’s apartment and knocked on the door. Stripper Gram She called in a sexy voice, a big grin on her face.

She wasn’t alone for long, playing with her phone to kill time. She heard familiar clicks of high heels, Rachel turned her attention to the source of the noise. There was her best friend, dressed in a soft pink dress, with her beautiful blonde hair in soft curls and flowers. Oh baby, you should be talking. You look like you’re Cinderella and you’re going to the ball. You’re gonna be the center of attention. She cooed, looking at her best friend again. They were each other’s rock, and if it wasn’t for Maddie and her boys she presumed she wouldn’t have even returned to school. The girls made small chit chat until Rachel’s attention was drawn to a door closing, causing her to jump.

She knew the figure without having to look at his face. Rachel could feel her stomach clench, her heart rate increase, and her knees get weak. His dark features contrasted Maddie’s, whom he was currently flirting with. Rachel felt a wave of nausea hit her when she finally got the courage to see his face. Ah, look with the cat dragged in, a dying alcoholic rat. Rachel spat, her blue eyes narrowed. He shouldn’t even be here, after he… did what he did. It wasn’t the reason why she went to Reflections, but it certainly was addressed when she couldn’t handle the touch of the male staff. How she’d refuse to wear just hospital gown, her psychiatrist made her work through it, and yet Rachel still felt confused.

Thankfully, a text message stole her attention. Max had agreed to coming, which gave her an extra friend at the party and a partner in crime for when Arlo and Maddie got blasted out of their minds. She was about to respond, but another female’s voice had commanded her attention. She was going to need to avoid Dejan if this lack of attention was going to continue. She looked to see one of the hot heads. Ada, one of the nicer people in that group. Yeah, Maddie and I are going. She answered, ”We’re just waiting for Arlo to be honest. As if he were listening for an introduction, Arlo opened his door. He smelled like spices, and Rachel felt her heart palpate. She listened quietly as Arlo dealt with Dejan, and Rache felt a weight lift from her shoulders. She followed into Arlo’s apartment and responded to Max’s text.

                                                            To;; Maxie
Mess;; Well, Mads and I are
                                                            At Arlos. We’re leaving soon
So do you want to meet us
                                                            There?

She looked over at the crate of beer and her mouth went dry. Did she want one? ******** yes. It was calling her, but her arm went to rub the new injection. Nah, I will hit your stash of water. No alcohol for this cute babe. She grabbed a mug and filled it with water. Chugging it so they wouldn’t be waiting. She walked to the door and listened, no sign of Dejan. Shall I tell Max to meet us there? Or are we gonna wait for him? I don’t want him to feel like we ditched him.

aina, the aura demon

tab Nothing smelt quite like human blood, or death. It had this way of creeping up your spine and living in your brain. The colour dances through your dreams, and the taste of iron had a whole new meaning. Aina had smelt human blood so much that it no longer sent a chill down her spine. Her golden eyes had seen enough blood in her short two hundred years that it didn't even occur to her that it was abnormal to see a body. She would often pass through human villages and not notice their dead piled nearby. The smell wouldn't wretch in her stomach, and yet this village seemed different.

tab This human village, if one could even call it that, was charred and looked as if it were destroying it from the inside. The demon rolled her eyes, ignoring the pleading villages for help. She was far too busy on her own task to deal with some human's problem. In fact, she was far too busy looking for a specific human to care. Her eyes scanned the dead, many were too charred to see their faces, but she didn't need a face to see who she was looking for. She needed an aura. A soft, earthly brown aura of the little girl she'd been raising.

tab Her little sister, as she lovingly put it, had been dropped on her lap once a woman she had made a deal with had passed away. At first and annoyance, Cho had now grown into a young adult of fourteen, and proved to be useful in combat. She was handy with a weapon, which made fighting for land all the more convenient.

tab Cho had disappeared a few days prior. In retrospect, Aina should have noticed earlier, but alas, she was busy ensuring her villages were safe. Unlike whoever was causing problems for this particular one.

tab Although the aura's of humans dimmed the longer the human was dead, Aina couldn't see an aura that matched Cho's, and therefore she was starting to get more and more impatient. Soon, she'd have to start asking the pesky humans which demon did this, and whether or not it was the same one that had taken Cho. The demon that had taken Cho had hair as black as night and eyes as red as blood. According to the villager, he was a nightmare in real life.

tab When Aina had come to the conclusion that she would have to speak to a human, she let out a heavy sigh. Humans were so closed minded, or too in awe that she just took a moment to rub her temples. She turned to a child, and gave a comforting smile. "I need to speak with an adult." She asked. She remember how scared Cho would get when Aina would use a 'scary demon voice' and knew that this tiny human would be no different.

tab The child nodded and offered her hand. With a roll of her eyes, she took the tiny child's hand and followed suit. She'd seem less intimidating if she was holding on to a child. It didn't take long to find one of the remaining elders. He looked at Aina in shock, with her short shoulder length hair and golden eyes. "I'll avenge your village if you tell me who did this. I don't have time to hear your pleas for protection." The elder's eyes widened again.

tab We last saw him at the riverbed. The last one who saw him came back with a wound the size of a fist! Aina had stopped listening after the word riverbed. She didn't care how the human died, she just wanted to know where this demon was so she could find Cho and kill him.

tab "Which way?" She hissed, if someone were to get in her way, she'd skin them alive. She slipped on her finger blades, golden like her eyes, and as sharp as a sword. If she was a quiet enough, she could get the element of surprise. She walked away, with the pesky humans begging for help.

tab As she walked to the riverbed she started to see the demonic aura forming. With the anger that filled her soul, Aina quickly approached her target. Her vision tunneled, and if she had been thinking clearly, she would have noticed that there were two other demonic auras forming nearby. She'd notice that there was no human aura, but she was too angry. Angry that someone had dared to take Cho, and therefore putting her sister in danger.

tab As she neared the demon she raised both hands, and collided with him at a speed that resulted a loud crack. Next thing she new they were both in the shallow water, her hands around his neck. "Where the hell is she? Where is my sister?" She demanded. Before she could get the chance to sink her finger blades into his neck, Aina sensed two more demonic auras nearby and they felt just as hostile.

tab Jumping to a safer distance, and leaving her target in the water, Aina looked at the group. On the otherside of the shore line were a dog and a wolf demon, and as she calmed down to regain composure, she noticed that the wolf and the underwater demon had similar auras. Too similar. Crap, I think I may have misinterpreted the information given to me by that elder. She admitted.

tab Kagome, Sango, and Miroku had been missing for over a month and InuYasha was stuck travelling with one of the most annoying creatures on this planet. His sly smile on his mug whenever Koko would side with him, his retched smell, and his irritating voice. The past month had literally been trekking across the countryside, following whatever leads they could. Admittedly, it was easier to travel with humans, since more humans trusted the group with a majority of humans and one demon than the group he was currently stuck in.

tab It also didn't suck to have Kokoro around again. She had made his childhood less of a living hell, and quite enjoyable until Mother died. Most of the positive memories that he had included her in them. Although younger, she had grown into a beautiful young demon, even for a wolf. He found his eyes would wander to her ever so often, mostly to ensure her safety. Without Kagome being around, his brain obviously picked her to protect, since Kouga was a good as useless. He sighed as they walked, listening to the siblings bicker, it was as if they never shut up. When it was suggested that they should take a break, InuYasha was going to protest, but his stomach growled in a loud agreement.

tab The idea of eating anything other than Kagome's magic food used to bother InuYasha's stomach. He had gotten used to all of the food she'd pack for their adventures, and it almost annoyed him after she had gotten captured. Regretfully remembering that he lived far longer without her food just fine, his diet with the wolf siblings resembled much of his original demonic diet. Eat what you can, when you can.

tab They stopped at a river, avoiding a town that had been attacked. They'd look like demons looking for a human meal, and that wouldn't look good for them. Sitting down on the grass, he looked up at the sun and felt the warmth on his face, wondering briefly if his friends would ever feel the same warmth again. Pushing the sadness down he opened his eyes to see Kokoro attempting to fish. Even 'Attempt' was a harsh word, her form was terrible and she was splashing far too much.

tab He walked up to her, keeping on the bank. "Keh. If you keep splashing about you'll never catch something." He commented. Before she had the chance to respond, his nose alerted him to something oncoming.

tab It smelt demonic, but nothing he had smelt before. "What the hell?" He asked, as he turned to see what was coming toward them, but at the speed it was approaching it looked like a black and gold blur. It hit Kouga like a brick and sent them flying into the water causing a rather large splash. Drawing Tessaiga from it's sheath, resulting in a familiar rush of completeness, he stepped forward to protect his unarmed friend. He watched the demon look up at the pair, and jump away defensively.

tab WHAT THE HELL? InuYasha asked again in a more annoyed tone. What demon attacks another demon just to jump away so quickly. What the hell kind of demon smelt like charcoal and looked like she had just rolled around in some? WHAT THE HELL WAS GOING ON?

tab Crap, I think I may have misinterpreted the information given to me by that elder. She responded, like that somehow gave an answer to the question- which it didn't. At all.

tab Annoyed, and completely unimpressed, InuYasha looked at the threat. She seemed genuinely confused, although that didn't really concern him. Entertainingly, he watched Kouga resurface. "I'm gonna cut you to shreds, unless why you explain what the hell you just did to Kouga.

tab Not that it entirely matters, but I thought he was a demon that took my little sister. This Kouga however doesn't match the appearance I was told. She motioned to Kouga, eyeing him for an uncomfortable moment. If it's a fight you want, fine, but I'd rather see my energy saved for something more than a sad wolf pack. So unless you've seen or heard of this Nightmare Demon, I have better things to be doing.

tab Nightmare Demon? This lady raised more questions than answers. Yet, something about this Demon made him think. Everyone was having nightmares before they went missing. Maybe that has something to do with it? He muttered under his breath, loud enough for Kokoro's excellent hearing.

tab Dmitri looked out the window and reviewed the past few hours in his head, silently tapping his pen. It had moved so quickly that he almost felt like he'd have to write it down, but that would be pointless. The train car smelt of his uncle's cigars and his father's flowers that sat in the garden at the entrance of the lane. He looked around, he was thirsty and that may help him focus. He walked to the bar and poured himself a glass of scotch on the rocks. Uncle Hamish taught him well before his death, and he planned on using his time wisely.

tab He returned to his seat and took a sip. The burning sensation was welcome as it traveled downwards to his stomach. How did he end up getting picked for this? Hadn't his family done enough for Panem, his parent's were the Mockingjays for christ's sake.

tab Twenty-five years ago when his parents had been fighting for the freedom of their beloved country, his stupid uncle set off bombs in order to help the rebellion 'win' the war against then President Snow. Little did Uncle Gale and the other weapon specialists know that the bombs had lasting effects, over the past twenty years or so the birth rate had dropped to nearly zero, and that was problematic. With all of the deaths caused by the Capital, Panem wasn't able to function.

tab The Country came together with the top scientists, and determined about five yeas ago that not everyone had been born with the ability to produce gametes. That meant the population could produce cells or sperm. Now that the districts were free and equal, the leaders of each had almost all agreed that they would collect an "Adam" and "Eve" and bring them to the Capital to preform in the 'Mating Games' as terribly named as it was.

tab Young people as young as seventeen were tested to see if they produced gametes. If positive, their name would be placed in a lottery, and if their name was pulled, they would go compete. Men would be allowed to return, Women would be sent to their new 'mate's' home district. Any surviving Hunger Games would be the guiding force of the District.

tab As expected, his father joined him on their journey. Mother wanted too, but Father reminded her that it may cause her too much pain to see their son go through the same process as them. Be presented to the crowd, meet his 'Perfect Match', be taught survival skills, and hope that the Arena or another player doesn't kill him before he could mate with someone. Less dangerous, but still annoying.

tab Almost as if his father had heard his son thinking about him, he walked into the cart. In an outfit Mother had definitely picked out, his father pushed his glasses up his nose as he sat across from his son. "We're stopping to pick up a few more... He said, Dmitri looked at his father. At least you'll see Aunt Annie. He said, looking at the glass in Dmitri's hand. He wouldn't judge, father dealt with his pain and frustrations by finding tasks around the house. Mother would go and hunt enough meat for a month, and Rue would paint.

tab Oh yes, Aunt Annie, Dmitri briefly wondered how she had managed to do it. She was such a ball of anxiety, it just seemed unfair that she had to be going back as well. It made sense why Mother didn't want to come. She never had a lot of patience, and Dmitri simply now assumed it was because he couldn't handle Aunt Annie in large doses.

tab Dmitri could feel the train slow, a station was coming into view. Who could we be picking up now? He asked himself quietly. Would it be another man? Or would it be a possible suitor for himself? So many unanswered questions. "So I essentially am going to act like you did when you were courting Mother? Dmitri asked, his grey eyes shifting to look at his father's blue eyes. The eyes of his little sister. Dmitri was almost glad that his sister was sterile... So she didn't have to deal with this bu.llshit.

tab "I suppose." Peeta said with a hefty laugh. "Just be you son. You're a little smoozer like you dad."

tab Aylen couldn't believe it. Standing on the large asphalt train platform, it was misty and cool. Aylen would be travelling to the Capital and participating in the mating games. She shivered under her oversized sweater and leggings. According to her mother, she had to look beautiful. Her district used to supply the capital with the most beautiful garments ever seen, and she had to represent her family history.

tab She couldn't even remember her name being called, or that she was even at the town hall meeting earlier that week. Many of her friends and family had been trying to have their own children with no avail, and although she wouldn't be returning to her home, at least a different girl would come back with her partner to reproduce another child. Aylen, the youngest of three, always counted herself lucky. One of the few children in her grade, she never thought of herself as lonely. She would at least be able to go home to her sisters and parents.

tab Never again though. Sure, there was a possibility that her future husband would allow her to go home and visit and her parents after the baby was born, but that could be a year away! She understood though, she was the only girl who could have kids in her neighborhood, it was expected that she contribute to the Panem Population program.

tab Aylen turned to the boy representative of their district. He was smoking a cigarette, taking each drag with a long sigh. Once they got to the Capital, he wouldn't be allowed to smoke anymore. "You're going to have to give that up soon." She said informatively. It was a risk of killing his sperm, which had so much more potential now.

tab The boy's brown eyes met with hers, his narrow face scrunched up as he looked at his cigarette. His glare changed to something nasty, as if he was going to yell at her or flick it in her face. She jumped, she rather he knew that she was scared, rather than him do either of those things. With a long sigh he dropped it to the ground. "Yeah, I suppose. I'm Richard, by the way. I'm nineteen" He was young, and although she was young too, she was at least in her twenties.

tab Rumour had it that originally they wanted teenagers, but Katniss Everdeen had made such a big to do about it that they only took people between 17 and 25. Consenting adults, unlike the children from before. Aylen would have volunteered anyway, it was her responsibility to help. I'm Aylen, I'm twenty-one." She said. She picked up her bags and motioned for him to do the same. "I hear that District 12 is letting me stay with them, since they don't have a female representative, and we don't have a mentor. Where are you going? She asked. He mentioned something about District nine. She nodded, hugged him, and said goodbye. She'd see him later that day, but everything would be different now.

tab She boarded the train and walked where she was directed. There in the car was Peeta Mellark, the Boy with Bread, the Mockingjay. He looked weathered, but kind. He offered her a smile, and a seat. She introduced herself, and he introduced himself. "Nice to meet you Aylen. This is my son, Dmitri, he is representing District 12. She offered her hand and he shook it.

tab I think we'll be at the next stop soon too, so it won't be long until we meet our other 'buddies'." Dmitri said, taking a sip of what Aylen could only imagine was apple juice. She asked for a glass, and Peeta obliged.

tab "Well, I guess that's good?" She said, feeling too awkward to talk. She expected the train to travel faster than it did, but it kept a slow pace, as to elongate this hell she was stuck in. She could simply sit silently, but alas, she awkwardly talked to Dmitri and Peeta for the next hour. She learned that Peeta had married Katniss, and that they had had two children, Dmitri who was twenty five and Rose (who they called Rue sometimes) who was twenty seven.

tab Finally, she saw the next station in the horizon. This is the last stop for this train, we should be in the capital by nightfall. Peeta had said, looking up from his sketchbook to give the two a nod. Soon they would meet the other Representatives, and there adventures would truly begin.

The apartment smells like fresh rain, dark from the closed blinds, and is mostly quiet. A body stirred from the bedroom, with messy brown hair, knotted and curled from a late overnight shift at the hospital on call. It stumbled to the bathroom, and hissed when it turned on the light. It shield its eyes until they adjusted and it groaned. Another audible noise could be heard when the blonde looked into the mirror. Make up circled her eyes, giving her a racoon appearance, while the smudged lipstick made her think of the Joker. She plugged her phone into the wall charger and it brightly came back to life. “Wow. It’s early.” She complained, her voice hoarse from snoring. She had nine text messages, and a few emails. She reread the time and took a moment to reflect. Her taxi would be arriving in twenty minutes.

“Ah!” She exclaimed, hating to be late for anything. She brushed her teeth and washed away the makeup that had painted her face earlier. She cursed herself for sleeping in so much, but she didn’t want to leave the hospital without fully knowing the boy that had wondered away from his bed was safe, which resulted to her returning to her flat around six this morning.

Once she had somewhat of a clean pallet to work with, the girl made quick work of her hair. Once it was organized into a neat bun atop her head, she moved to the face. Opting out for simple and quick makeup techniques that could help her save time. She wanted to look professional, since she knew that she'd be representing her best friend for the weekend and ensuring that everything would run smoothly.

She rushed to her room and picked up a black dress from her designated ‘clean’ pile. After donning on tights and a pair of cow girl boots, she slipped on the dress. She checked herself out in the full length mirror on the other side of the room. The dress gave her quite the figure and if it wasn't for a text message on her phone she may of lost a few minutes while staring at her reflection. Thankfully she had packed the night before, and most of her things had already been at the ranch. She grabbed a leather jacket and slipped it on before walking to the main room to grab her purse and keys.

Grabbing an apple from the kitchen counter, she locked the apartment's front door and left. She walked down the stairs to the lobby and handed the cab driver her suit case. She asked if he could wake her up ten minutes before arriving if she fell back asleep, he smiled and laughed and she crawled into the taxi. She was thankful for the shift the night before, as much as she loved her friend, she needed a night of not thinking about table settings and dresses to prepare for the busy weekend.

                                              ---

She woke up slowly, stretching her upper body slowly. Aylen always slept well in the car, it was as if the world was rocking her like she was a baby. Carefully rubbing her eyes as to not ruin her make up, she took in the scenery. Mary's Uncle's Ranch was one of the most beautiful places in the state. She let her hair down, letting loose a barrage of brown curls. Running her hands through it in a sad attempt to decrease the craziness.

Aylen thanked the driver and tipped him, letting him open up the door for her. One last stretch left her prepared for the day. She had him drive up the guesthouse she'd had been staying in the days leading up to the wedding, and dropped off her bag. “Home again, home again, jiggity jig!” She mused to herself. Looking in the mirror to ensure no drool had escaped her lips in the taxi, she quickly fixed her make up.

Her nose told her that John was cooking on the grill. She started her way to the main house, deciding she'd usher anyone out who was in there. Before she was able to figure out who was around she saw the dog. Ah, an animal that she didn't have terrible luck. She smiled and bent down, the animal was being pet by a black haired man. The animal growled lowly as Aylen came forward, so she stopped. Her eyes scanned the room to meet Mary's, and she rolled her eyes and laughed. Of course she had terrible luck with a man's dog. “Are you here for the bride or the groom?” She inquired, not entirely sure who this person was.

She looked down to see the man's face, and although she could recognize most of the faces around, his was completely foreign. Everyone's faces looked almost awkward, like they were happy to be here, but the drama over the past few years had caused everyone to grow apart. Aylen was never super involved with the group, but at least she knew everything thanks to her social butterfly best friend. While she waited for a reply from the man with the dog, she checked her phone to see if there were any updates from work to look busy.

tab The black haired man pet his dog, reassuring the husky that he was fine. Mari's "brother" reminded her of the children at the hospital that she'd see when she'd be walking around. Reassuring their toys or siblings when they're nervous. If she knew anything about psychology she'd guess it was something along the lines of reflecting his feelings on the dog. But she didn't know anything about psychology, and found it entertaining. Seeing that Aylen had known Mari for so long she frowned momentarily when the thought crossed her mind that she may have forgotten a sibling. She took a moment for her attention to drift back to the attractive man. He mentioned that if she wanted to know about him, she'd have to follow him outside, and as if he had cast a spell for her to follow him. She followed him outside, and saw the large group of people.

tab Aylen took a breathe when she went outside. She really hated being in the large group of people; but she had to do this for Mari. Not only being her right hand girl for the weekend, but she had to break away from her introverted self. She gave herself a small pep talk while everyone was distracted by John's terrible outfit. She shook her head, and walked over to her best friend. She gave her a quick hug, "Hey, can I get you anything?" she asked quickly, seeing Charlotte approach. She'd let Mary's future sister-in-law take care of something small. Aylen's eyes drifted to the black haired man. She briefly asked Mary who it was, and her best friend responded with a three letter name. Mav.

tab Right, Maverick, that musician friend that left six or seven years ago. Aylen nodded and excused herself. She stopped when she saw Dan walk up to John.

tab Oh Dan, an old fling of hers. They had met in college, when she was going to law school and he was in his early bachelor days. The two of them were awkward to say the least. He was John's room mate, so it worked out. After a few dates though, it proved that it wouldn't last. They just didn't have that spark; and Aylen was certainly not going to lose her virginity to someone that didn't give her that spark. They parted on good terms, and ever so often they'd see each other at the hospital.

tab He was with Grace now; some drama that Aylen didn't pay enough attention too. Grace had glossed over it to Mary when the three of them met for coffee. When Aylen saw his picture, she almost couldn't believe it! They made such a beautiful couple. Aylen chuckled as she excused herself from her best friend and went off to say hello.

tab Aylen paused before she reached Dan and John. Had she mentioned to Grace that she had dated Dan briefly? Would it have mattered? Probably not, it's not like she ever saw the good Doctor naked anyways. She decided that she'd just wave. "Hey Dan! Glad you could make it!" She said with a quick wave.

tab With the large group of people crowding around, Aylen found anxiety bubbling up from her abdomen. With a frown gracing her lips, she decided a quick saunter over to where the wedding would take place and make sure that everything was in order. She thought for a moment, and reminded herself that the dog appeared to be anxious too about the new people. With a second small pep talk, Aylen approached Maverick. "I overheard earlier that your dog was a little nervous. I'm going to take a walk over to where our little love birds are getting hitched tomorrow. Maybe a walk around the ranch would help him calm down?" She motioned behind her to the fields of space. "Not that it matters if you come or not... I just thought it might be nice for your... dog."
