The air was cool, as it seemed to always be. Colder still with the trees blocking out most of the sun. But there were sunny patches here and there. It had been one such patch that the old shewolf had found herself lost in for a small period of time, simply enjoying the way the sun heated her fur. Now, her paws padded silently through the wood, mindful of the twigs and leaves that would alert others to the shewolf's location. She was aware that this area of the wood was safe, but old habits die hard. And she hadn't managed to survive this long by being a stupid wolf. She slowed her pace, lifting her head to the air and scenting the wind. The scent she followed was faint. The one she was seeking had been through here recently.
Cedar growled under her breath, her single eye narrowing as she took in everything around her. No sign of the shewolf she was looking for.
With another soft growl, ears flattening to her skull, the old shewolf started her hunt once again. While she was normally more stoic or aloof, Cedar was growing more irritable the longer she had to leave her sons. It was against her instincts to leave her offspring out of her sight. But that blasted daughter of hers.... If she hadn't been so concerned with keeping her family safe, she would have raised her voice and demanded that Maple return. But that would have been a foolish mistake. And Cedar was no fool. Perhaps at one time in her life, but age and motherhood had taken that trait out of her.
So, she was resigned to keep following her daughters scent until she could track down the young shewolf.

 Sometimes, being responsible sucked.
Now don't get Maple wrong, she loved her family to tears and blood, but sometimes it grew too stifling to be around them. Like an argument was about to brew just from the jumble of differing personalities between the four of them. Some days she was fine playing peacekeeper, smiling and trying to lighten the mood. But after the last spat Arru had with their mother, Maple felt it was time again to get some much needed space, before the impending static of being caught in the middle made her go mad.
She felt just a tiny bit guilty slinking away this time nonetheless, though, because sooner or later Cedar was going to find her and berate her for leaving. This was why she made her trips short but as far away as possible.
Maple had found the perfect lounging spot for her vacation: after a bit of snow dusting, she found she could curl atop a particular rock and sunbathe comfortably enough. What had supposed to be a ten minute doze had turned into a legitimate nap, however. Cedar would find her still asleep, one paw jutting out over the edge as she snoozed away in the sun.

This little "trip" had certainly taken much longer than the old shewolf had wanted. But, after some more searching and scenting, Cedar had finally found her daughter. The younger female was curled up on a rock she seemed to have discovered. It was almost perfectly placed in the rays of some sun. A nice warm napping stone.
Cedar just sighed heavily, standing among the shadows of the trees and watching Maple for several minutes. Her ears were alert, swiveling around and listening to all the quiet sounds.
There was no danger here. But her daughter should know better then to be so exposed. Or what Cedar considered to exposed anyways.
Pawing at the snow beneath her feet, Cedar approached Maple slowly, ears not quite so alert or flat against her skull. A deep growl vibrated up from her chest as the only warning her daughter would get before the old shewolf jumped upon the rock with surprisingly nimble feet.
There was only a smattering of seconds the older wolf would allow her daughter before she would resort to knocking the shewolf off her little sun perch.
"Daughter, mine." She said in an partial growl and exasperated tone. "Have I not taught you better than this?"
