Groups for crocheting , knitting, and other similar crafts often get formed. Then they sometimes disband, and that left Miranda with an time in her day to look for a new group. A new group that she found off of the bulletin board at the college.
Miranda had arrived not too promptly but not on time either, which was fine since such groups didn't depend on people to arrive on time usually.
The young woman just carefully moved to an the nearest empty seat she could find and sat down, casting only a short glance over at the person next to her, "Hey?"
Familiarity breeds curiosity in this case.

Penelope didn't mind when her knitting groups fell apart because she was often a member in many parties. She was the type of woman who liked keeping her social circles vast so jumping from group to group kept things interesting.
But, she also liked meeting up with people she already knew and catching up on the latest gossip.
At the cautious voice, she lifted her head, a smile spreading across her lips. Blue eyes took in the person calling for her attention and pale brows lifted in delightful surprise.
"Miranda?"

Miranda's curious expression turned into a happy one as there was a familiar face for her to chat with, "Penelope!" She replied back happily, showing she remembered the other's name quite readily. Though it was hard to forget a cute name like Penelope.
She started getting some things out of her crafting bag for a moment, "How have you been? We haven't been hitting the same circles for a while, huh?"
It wasn't uncommon to not see someone again after a crafting circle disappeared, but it also wasn't uncommon to run into them again a bit later.

In her hands was the beginning of a scarf that her fingers were automatically continuing even as her attention drifted elsewhere. Her smile never faltered, the pale pink lips held in something practiced while still managing to look genuine.
"It has been a minute, hasn't it." She gasped, pausing in her yarn work to lift a hand and delicately press the tips of her fingers against her breast bone. "Where have you been Miri?" Pen asked, automatically dropping to a shortened version of the girls name, in hopes that it would increase the familiarity.
"I've been flitting around, haven't had as much time for stuff between work and grad school, but this is my second to last semester I think. Then it'll just be work and hobbies. But, enough about me. What about you??"

Miranda was a bit too focused on pulling out the crochet hook out and getting her project ready for a moment or two before she replied,"It seems like it has," she responded and even offered a smile at the 'nickname' that Penelope offered.
She listened to the explanation and gave a small nod, "I think I overloaded myself on classes a little bit, but I'll get through it easy enough. What kind of work do you do between classes and stuff? I been thinking about looking for a job of my own so my parents don't have to pay for everything," she sounded a little embarrassed.
"That's a lovely scarf you are working on by the way! I am trying to do a blanket for my little sister and eventually little brother as well." She squinted down into her bag of yarn before she started to get to work as well.

Her hands went back to knitting but blue eyes never fully left Miranda as she listened.
"It's so easy to do that," she sighed, pretending to think about one of her previous semesters when she'd piled things on pretty heavily. "Like, you just wanna finish school and get your degree so you can get out there and experience life." This time, her sigh was a wistful one.
Her fingers stilled again and she let her smile shift into something sheepish. "Managed to get an assistant librarian job over at that new military school? It's been a year now. They're willing to work with my schedule and are going to offer me a job once I finish grad school."
Basically, Pen had been lucky enough to get her dream job. "Oh thanks! It's just something easy to work on when I'm not ready to tackle a 'tough' project." She peered over at the stuff Miranda was producing. "Hows that going?"

"Yeah. I just hate making my parents pay for much of my stuff. I used to have a small job during high school," she shrugged a shoulder as she got her crochet hook out finally and began to settle into her work, "nothing major. Just helping at a friend's family restaurant when people would flake out on them."
She grinned happily at Penelope, "Congratulations! Are you enjoying it so far? I bet it is very quiet a lot of the time."
The young woman let out a small chuckle, "It is going okay! It is an easy enough pattern, just gotta do a bit of counting sometimes at first. Once you get it down it just sorta happens before you know it." Miranda hazarded a glance over at Penelope, "Are you having fun with yours?"

"Tell me about it. I pay for all my own stuff but my brother? He's a mooch." She shook her head, tutting like she'd shared some great gossip as her needles worked almost effortlessly on her project. "He even mooches from me." Her tongue pressed against her cheek and she shifted, crossing one foot over the ankle of the other and tucking them out of the way.
"Okay, he has a job now but that's because he finally got a girlfriend." That he wouldn't listen to her about but that was fine, when she broke his heart he'd learn to listen to his dear sister.
"Oh, it's like my dream job so it's pretty perfect." She got to do homework and work on her stories when she had time and the cataloging was taken care of. "Absolutely," she chirped, "it's so nice to get back into it. I haven't had as much time lately y'know?"
