An idea came to Toby before he set out for the evening. It was possibly a little crazy. Possibly. The idea started with sorting out his hiking gear to have a nice, completely not-superpowered (probably) hike during the coming weekend. Among his various knick-knacks, he had a staple of any D&D adventurer's kit: A sizeable length of rope and some carabiners. Why not, he thought, try using some things beyond what senshi magic gives? So it was that when he snuck out for his evening training session, he brought along a coil of rope. He wasn't entirely sure what he'd do with it, but while standing on top of a building, he happened to notice a quadrupedal youma of some variety below...and he knew exactly what he was gonna do. After a bit of quick knot tying, a senshi-shaped falling object was soon dropping down on the unsuspecting youma. At the last moment, Nix used his tongue to adjust his fall--there was no way his tongue was strong enough to actually yank him or the youma anywhere, but lacking friction opened up possibilities...such as landing directly on the thing's back. It crumpled with a startled howl, and before it had a chance to figure out what was going on, he looped the rope around its head. ...And then the youma was up and running again, with Nix balanced on its back, one hand wrapped around the rope, and the other hand swaying out to the side and behind him. "W-woaah!" he called out, more in surprise than a command (it's not like the thing would listen, anyway). He thought, briefly, maybe this wasn't the best plan...but he'd come up with something. Or maybe something else would come along to help. Kapoodles I told you I'd do it. razz

For once, Manu had left his sweet dog at home while out and about. Before he had brought Staccato along while he was out looking for Bazzite out of a more mental need than anything else, but now that Bazzite was found, purified, and cozy at home curled up with the sweet dog, then he would hate to have to break them apart.
Plus... He was only supposed to go out and get some snacks. Cold day and no hot cocoa was simply blasphemous! And if he wanted to do a little bit of looking out and about for danger, poor Staccato should very much be left at home!
Initially the walk to the store wasn't so bad. Quiet but cozy and he enjoyed the cold breeze as he always ran really warm. Just a short distance away from his house and he powered up, immediately frowning at what he felt. A Senshi, maybe... And a youma... Pretty close together so maybe it was a fight... And if it was a fight then they might need help so Manu started to head in that direction, arriving just soon enough to see a Senshi kid land on a youma that looked more like a boar or a dog or something and try to ride the thing!
What kinda crazy stuff did kids do these days to put themselves in straight danger like this!? As he ran closer he couldn't help but think that maybe kids really were slowly getting more and more stupid foolish.
"Get down from there! You're going to get hurt!" Hands were cupped infront of his face as he shouted at the boy, using his best dad voice that had been refined by years and years of practice with his own niece and nephew. His voice had been enough to get the youma to charge towards him, senshi in tow, and he hoped it would keep coming this way. If it did, well, he could stop it long enough to get the kid down and amscray out of here.

It was a bit of an adventure just staying balanced on top of the angry youma. He considered himself lucky that it hadn't tried to roll over...of course, if it did, he was confident he could jump off safely enough. Still, he was glad to see a knight turn up, even if he was immediately ordered to get off. He grinned at the guy, and spared a moment to wave with his balancing hand. He wobbled to the side as he did so, and let out an "Ohh, woaa-" before regaining his balance. It was clear the youma had decided to charge at the knight--Nix mentally labeled him 'Mr. Purple,' due to the purple beard he could see--and so the senshi got himself ready for that. "I'll jump off," he called out, and paused as his balance wavered a moment, "Right as it--gets to you!" It only took a moment before the thing was full on charging, and as they got closer, Nix squatted down, then launched himself up and back, while tugging on the rope, rewarding him with an angry groan from the youma as the force of its charge was fairly well spoiled. It wasn't dead, though...looked like the thing had a fair bit of oomph to it. Nix landed behind, still holding his rope. "Ha-HA!" he whooped.

Oh this kid. This crazy little kid was going to get himself killed one day! Before he could even protest the kid leapt into action, tugging at the youma's makeshift bit and slowing down it's charge before leaping off, rolling off to the side. Sure the kid was safe, but the beast was still coming at Manu, snarling and teeth primed to bite on him.
Manu was prepared, however, and managed tor each up, grabbing the beast by it's large ears and snapping it's head to the side, forcing it to the ground. As it's body was far heavier and sturdy than it's skinny legs, knocking it over was easy, but taking it out, not so much. Now he was on the ground, wrestling the youma, legs coming around it's neck, both keeping the snapping maw away from his poor fleshy self and keeping it from finding the right balance to get himself back up.
"GO FIND SOMETHING TO DUST IT!" Manu boomed from where he struggled, hoping the kid was just smart enough to try to dust it away from it's head. He was having a hard enough time already just trying to keep the thing from going after the boy already. Senshi had magic, atleast so... Hopefully whatever he had would be strong enough to take the beast out.

Find something? he thought briefly, before wondering why he didn't go to that thought first all the time. "Yeah!" he replied, nodding quickly. "Good idea!" He looked around, while still moving (there was an angry youma attached to his rope, after all), considering the possibilities. They were on a city street--a small one, to be sure, but still. Not a whole lot around. Maybe... Ah, perfect! he thought when he spotted a good sized icicle that something had bumped, so was on the verge of breaking off...And with the help of his Tongue Bash, it did! Then it was immediately pulled back to him, where he grabbed it, and was very thankful he did not have bare hands. "Get ready," he called out to the knight, "to give it a good hard kick or somethin'!" With his new cold, stabby implement, he lunged forward, intent on nailing the thing with the business end of water.

The youma twisted and snarled and snapped at Manu who managed to stay right out of reach. It was strong though, and he could feel it tug and pull at him every which way and he just knew that he'd be sore in the morning, with probably a large bruise on his back that would definitely cause Julian to ask some questions.
With Nix having found something and called out to him to get ready, he waited just a few seconds longer before giving the youma a hard kick in the neck, out and away from him and rolled out of the way, getting back to his feet. The sound of the icicle coming straight into the youma's head and the deafening squeal it gave right as it poofed into dust was enough to make Manu wince. As gross as it was, he knew that ultimately it would come back again. They couldn't ever kill the youma forever, after all.
Now that he was back on his feet, he turned his gaze back to Nix, coming right up to him and looking down at the boy. It wasn't often that Manu tried to be intimidating, but this time, he did. He wasn't quite looking mad, but he did have that dad disappointed glare going on.
"What were you thinking? You could have gotten seriously hurt. no one being around to hep. You are alright, right?"

Nix was feeling pretty good about that move, all told. He swept in, Mr. Purple kicked at just the right moment, and bam! All gone. His triumphant grin soon faded, however, as he realized he was the only one thinking that was good. "Uhm, well," he started, deflating slightly. "I thought, 'I wonder if I can use a rope to help me fight stuff,'" He waggled the rope some as he said that, slowly recollecting it all from ground. "And then I sorta ended up riding it." His smile returned, hesitantly, "Thank you for the help!" He stuck out a hand suddenly and quickly. "I'm Nix! Nice to meet ya!" His natural response to 'big, intimidating' was to go 'big, cheery,' as an attempt to deflate things. It often worked, and he hoped it would work here, too

"Are you sure that's what you thought? To me it looked more like 'I have a rope, there's something that looks good to ride down there. Let's go see if I can take this beast on like at the rodeo.'" Manu's expression did not change, at least not at first. He was still concerned dad, and that feeling couldn't really be shaken off. Nix's expression did change for a bit, but popped right back to being cheerful, so... Yes, Manu relented, sighing and shaking his head before taking the kid's hand and shaking it back.
"Manu, Page of Chronos. I hate to lecture you but I'd like for you to put more thought into your actions next time. I can't stop you from making foolish choices, but at least be better prepared for it. And maybe find a partner to go out and about with, so at least you're not alone if something goes wrong."

Nix nodded, a suitably chastised expression briefly on his face. "Yeah, I know, it was...not the safest of plans." He nodded, and a mischievous grin snuck into his expression. "But it was really cool!" He considered a moment before saying, "Well, I've got a few people I go with sometimes, but I just get...impatient, I guess, and go running off on my own. I know it's a bad idea, but..." He shrugged. "It's worked okay so far!" A sigh, then. "But, you're right. Need to be alone less often when out doing this stuff." He rubbed his chin thoughtfully, an idea coming to him. "Maybe...I should try to get other senshis to join me for nightly training...everybody's always so scattered and confused. That'd be good!" He raised his eyebrows before adding, "And I wouldn't be alone then, right?"

"Yes, it was cool, but dangerous." Again, he scolded, but he didn't really mean it. Had he been Nix's age, he probably would have done the same thing, honestly.
But he wasn't, he was a grown dad and worried like one.
"Don't you have a Senshi phone? If you have one, you can find the numbers of some other senshi in it, I think. No one objects to a mass text saying you want to spare sometimes. It's safer to meet up that way, and it's secret so you don't have to worry about any of the Negaverse dropping in on your in surprise. That's a good compromise, I think. And yes, you wouldn't be alone. It only takes one night of bad luck and you won't be here the next day."

Nix nodded again, and pulled out his green-colored phone to show it. "Yeah, I know I can. I've been kinda hesitating to do it, but...I should, you're right." He nodded. "I've...been lucky so far, I know." Momentarily, he sounded fairly serious. "I've seen what the negaverse can do. They're not nice people at all." He was quiet a moment, then put his smile back on. "Anyway, thank you, Manu, for your help! I promise to be careful...And I think I'm done out here for the night. I'm gonna go home, and put my rope away." He took the coil that he'd made while talking, and stuck it around one of his shoulders. "Unless you need my help for something?"

"Don't hesitate anymore then. It's much better to get over that people anxiety than to wind up dead. Make friends, make allies, and make sure when you're in trouble, you have someone to fall back on. There won't always be someone who happens to walk by." Feeling as he said enough, he took a few steps back, stretching and rubbing his aching back. why did his mind wander to thinking he was getting too old for this?
"You're welcome, Nix. I think we're both good. So make it home safe, and I'll keep an eye out for you. The next time I catch you doing something like that, you better have a partner there to back you up." Alright, so he had to scold one last time, but it ended with a smile and he reached out, giving the kid a quick pat on the head. Kids did stupid things, he knew that all too well, but if they learned from it, then that was plenty good enough for him.
"You take care now. And next time you decide to come out, power up, and then put a coat on."

"Bring a friend to my next rodeo, got it," Nix said with a laugh, and was clearly also amused by getting a head pat. He knew a boy or two who would have hated that, but it obviously didn't have a malicious or demeaning intent behind it. "Until next time, Manu of Chronos," Nix said with a wave, and for the sole purpose of being a needless showoff, he glanced up and back quickly before leaping backward and grabbing onto a ledge above...then he climbed up (missing a single step that he played off, naturally), and was gone into the night.
