Dai moved out into the same damn mud pit his poor sister had been battling in, and looked around, his expression one of displeasure. He had put on his oldest, least loved outfit for this, but he still regretted having to battle in such a disgusting mess. He took a few deep breaths, then found himself a good position, before turning to face his opponent. He had no idea who the man was, though he had a very vague idea that maybe he had seen the other man at Dares. "I'm Dai. Shall we fight?" He summoned his weapon, a somewhat oversized glaive, and moved to attack his opponent... Attacked, and missed completely, because his foot slid hard in the mud. "******** class="quote"> Quote:

He stepped out onto their designated sparring ground gingerly, dressed in the most ragged clothing he could manage, which wasn't very ragged at all. His shoes, being the only pair he had here, had been left in the clear, and he curled his toes into the mud as the boy facing him introduced himself. He did seem familiar, but Kent had little time to puzzle out where he'd seen Dai before a very large blade was arcing toward him. He hopped back at the last second, swinging his own bulky sword in a surprised counter. He might have swung it very hard. "Kenton Polk." His airy chuckle was unintentional, a response to the more sarcastic one in his head. "Sorry about that."Now back up and hold me in front of you."Hm. Yes." Kenton stepped away from his opponent and raised his weapon awkwardly. It was clear he'd practiced hitting things, not defending from them.

"Pleasure to meet you, Kenton..." Dai managed, before giving into a grunt from the hit. He managed to keep his footing in the mud, and shifted back himself, listening to hints from the voice in his head, that he was slowly learning to accept as real. He rebalanced and then darted forwards, hands on the shaft of his polearm, before making a overhand swing, bringing the blade down towards Kenton's shoulder in a chopping motion. "It's all right, it's what we're here for, after all..." Dai said, as he struck.

"Very true." There was still something a little distasteful about hitting actual people, but Linus didn't seem to have any similar hangups. It made things easier. So did actually getting hit. The blow didn't hurt exactly, but it did rattle Kent's teeth a bit and, more importantly, encourage him to try being strategic. He aimed at Dai's side, hoping that the aftermath of his vertical strike would leave him open to such a thing. "It's a pleasure to meet you too." He might have imagined they were guests at a fancy party had he not already kicked a cold glob of mud up between his pants and his calf.

Dai took the next hit from Kenton with a slight grunt, noticing how it was not pain he felt, just a strange sense of pressure, and it DID seem to knock the breath, just a little. It was a new feeling, having this shield to absorb damage for him. "Have you sparred before today?" Dai found himself asking, in a politely friendly voice. "I have not, but you seem to have an idea as to what you are doing." He then moved in, finding that if he used the way the mud slipped under him to his advantage, he could get to a useful angle to slash upwards with his glaive, and angle the blade in towards Kenton's side.

"Not technically," Kent said, watching for Dai's next attack as he started to circle. "I've... hit things. Just to see how it felt." Back home he'd watched a lot of YouTube videos on ninjas and stuff too, but that hadn't really been for comprehension or anything. At the time he'd had no idea he would end up here. Dai's next attack hit at roughly the same time as a vaguely familiar woman called out encouragement for his sparring partner. Kent's features fell into the faintest of pouts as he swung wide and almost missed, his pride mildly stung. Why was no one cheering for him?

Dai nodded a little, and shrugged. "I really need to get out there, and do some practicing, I think. I'm not very familiar with how to handle a giant polearm. Or any polearm at all, really." He tried to move back, taking the light hit as he realized Tzei was there. "Eh? THANKS, TZEI!" He called out to her, and got distracted as he made a return swing, barely scratching his opponent. Smerdle SORRY ABOUT THE DOUBLE TAG, I just realized my math on Dai's HP last time was off. Also holy hell the dice want them neck and neck.

Seren came running down to the Mudpit, and found a spot next to a stranger who seemed to be cheering for her brother. She was damp from a shower, having cleaned herself up after her own damn battle in the mud. "GO DAI! SHOW 'EM WHAT YOU'RE MADE OF, LITTLE BROTHER!" She cheered, arms pumping. She had no idea who his opponent was, but this was her brother. She was damn well entitled to cheer for her brother.

Tzei turns right around and starts studying her. Nope. Not dead. Looks very much alive. Good for Dai.
"Is it just me, or is everyone and their mom fighting in the mud pit?"
Craning her head back, she waves again.
"HEY LOOK. IT'S YOUR SISTER! Don't lose, okay?"
She waves at the other man as well, pretty sure she saw him at Dare night.
"FIGHT ON, BUDDY!"

Seren glanced over at the strange woman, curiously, for a moment, then chuckled. "I am the long lost sister, yes. Seren Yong. I take it you're a friend of my brother's?" She glanced back at the mud pit, and shuddered. "Far as I can tell, there seems to be a lot of people I know in this damn pit. I did, earlier. It sucked, but I DID win. Barely. That mud is a b***h to move in." She had to control the urge not to laugh at the next shout. "GO DAI GO! SORRY OTHER DUDE, BUT DO KEEP TRYING!"

"You're doing fine, I think," Kent said. "Maybe we can even practice together in the future, when we're not meant to be besting each other." It was strange, carrying on a mostly normal conversation while fighting. He had never been hit before today, but he had expected it to make speaking more difficult. He swung once more and landed his strike, but the sidelines were just too distracting to ignore. "I'm... Kent." He cleared his throat. "I AM KENTON POLK." He had never thought of himself as snobbish, but he was also used to people just... knowing who he was. It bruised his sense of rich person entitlement just a little.

Dai's eyes widened when he realized his sister had arrived. He felt suddenly unnerved, because she was kick a**, and he was going to have his first battle in front of her. If he failed, he might humiliate her. He focused on Kenton, however, in the hopes that it would prevent him from panicking too much. The hit was a little harder then the last one, and he nodded. "Yeah, I definitely think that's a good idea. I am not Sun, so I'm not front line, but I still need to be able to fight." He moved to the side, trying not to let the watchers distract him. Kenton's response to his sister, however, happened AS he swung, and Dai had to control the urge to laugh... Making the swing perhaps less effective then it could have been. Smerdle Kenton is making me laugh. So hard.

"What did he do at Dare night? I just can't remember. Mmmm...nope. Not a thing."
It's fine. This fight will be memorable. Probably.
