Vash's feet crunched in the sand and -- as per usual -- it made his mouth tug down into a scowl, made his eyebrows dip lower as he shoved hands deeper in his pockets and half-turned in place in search of who his next opponent would be. His eyes skated over Jolene once before settling on her, hair tumbling into his eyes. "Are we fighting? Is it you? You ready?" He didn't look ready. He looked casual and uncomfortable and out of place. But he had, at least, won his first fight.

Jolene timidly peered around herself before summoning the large hooked weapon to hand. She guessed it was her turn to fight and though she wasn't a fan of violence, especially against her own team, she was a sun and it was high time she explored why and tested herself to her limits. This was a good safe way of doing exactly that, she assured herself. Her weapon interjected and earned a roll of her.. eye..
Then she realized it probably looked like she rolled it at Vash. Dang. She hoped he didn't notice because it was more awkward to preemptively point it out.
"Ready as I'll ever be," she finally spoke, albeit rather softly.

"Okay, cool." He said it, but he didn't mean it -- even as he drew his weapon into hand and thumbed back the hammer, hesitating just a breath before he took a shot at her. Vash was obviously not focused, not in his game. Maybe he was still a bit grumpy about how slow and how poorly his last match had gone. Either way, the bolt of energy from his weapon went wide -- very wide -- and with a grimace he took a few hopping steps back, stumbling in the sand as he tried to avoid any retaliation. Jolene may have let out a small squeak as she scrambled around the field as he fired off his weapon. Honestly, she thought all weapons were more melee like her own. She didn't expect to be shot at. When it missed, she let out a sigh of relief and spun around on her step to face him again.
She ignored her weapon's remarks this time and ran in to swing it at Vash - and she looked honestly surprised to find it had connected and rather hard at that.

Vash stumbled under the blow, but it had the added bonus of pulling him better into focus, stealing away the uncertainty of his expression and making him narrow his eyes at her. This time, instead of the casual c**k-and-shoot, he took his time to aim -- stepping back twice to fire off another bolt of energy. And, this time, it hit. It made his expression bright, satisfied. Jolene was startled as another round had been fired off and this time struck her. This was it. It was all over, curtains. She'd been shot she was... ... hm. She felt herself over and realized she'd been uninjured by the projectile. Maybe she should have mentioned this was her first spar, too.
< Can I please get a new partner over here? >
Jolene suddenly remembered where she was and what she was meant to be doing, but just barely, and the gentle clip with her weapon was reflective of that. "I was shot and lived, this is exhilarating!"

"If you lose to that mouse, I'll dye your hair f*****t pink!"
came the cry of the ever supportive Dean.

"******** you too Dean!" He tossed it over his shoulder -- and somehow, Dean's less-than-supportive comments seemed to fuel Vash, made his next shot hit that much more solidly, that much harder. He actually smiled, briefly, at Jolene, something cocky starting to sneak into his attitude. HP: 34/40 DMG: 7

Wait, what, mouse??? Jolene frowned deeply at the comment and found herself taken completely off-guard.
Not only had her clock been thoroughly cleaned, but she barely managed a retaliatory scratch.
"I'm not a mouse," she squeaked.

Dottie showed up, not for support at all but just to punch Dean in the shoulder. “You’re the only f*****t here, and there’s nothing wrong with pink, you little jizzguzzler.” Oh, was this Vash’s match? “I stand corrected. There’s another one.”

Like a bad luck charm, there was Dottie -- and as soon as she was watching, naturally, Vash's solid shots immediately went wide. He focused on Jolene and struggled to sound casual as he adjusted his grip on the gun. Mostly he slid toward condescending. "Don't mind them. They're morons." HP: 33/40 DMG: 1

Dean almost said something that would have truly ended his career at Deus. He almost called Dottie a sore loser.
Luckily, even someone like Dean knew better than that.
“Your hair’s basically almost purple,” he complained as he rubbed his shoulder. “It doesn’t count.”
He crossed his arms. “Anyway. What kinda of stupid tourney doesn’t let you be a badass? No Fears? Seriously? You’re lucky I deigned to watch at all.”

She rolled her eyes, but refrained from throwing a second punch, her attention turned to the match up, but at Dean’s comment, she snorted.
“Wouldn’t matter anyways.” A small smirk, “Vasily’s charge is absolute s**t.”
Or at least, it was when they’d had their spar. She was really only going off of that one time.

Jolene yelped and moved to dodge, finding herself grazed as the attack shot past her.
She ran in to swipe at Vash with her weapon again and exhaled when she felt it connect to a meaningful degree. Finally. She wasn't completely useless.
"Friends of yours?" She asked with a sarcastic tone she didn't intend. She blushed lightly as soon as she heard it and quickly amended, "sorry! I just mean they sound sort of ...unfriendly?"
