It was entirely possible that, despite their relatively long tenures at Deus, Ever and Gale had never actually met. If they had, it was clear Ever didn't remember as he approached, with a good-natured smile on his face and a bright-eyed kind of unfamiliarity. "Ever Ambrodiel. Nice to meet you. Are you ready to do this?"

Gale hadn't met Ever, but he'd heard of him a few times, at the very least. He met the other man with a small smile and a small stature, reaching out to offer his hand in greeting to Ever.
"Gale Gentry," he said with a nod, as he stretched out his other hand to summon Jinhai. The rifle appeared in a gust of white and gold wind, flaring brightly for just the briefest of seconds before settling, his hand wrapping around the barrel to hold it to himself.
"Pleasure to meet you," said Gale sincerely. "I'm ready when you are."

The smile Ever gave him remained easy and unconcerned as he echoed the motion -- his own hands filling with dark, wickedly pointed dagger. And as much as he'd been polite, and as much as he'd wanted to make sure everyone was ready, Ever didn't hesitate another breath before swinging in to drive his weapon in toward Gale. HP: 60/60 DMG: 7

Daggers, swords, and other close range weapons were always a bit of a hassle when it came to fighting against them with what was supposed to be a long-ranged weapon. Gale felt the initial swipe of the blade come careening towards him, slicing a line across his torso and making him stumble back a few steps.
He flipped the gun, twisted around, and gripped it by the barrel, swinging it towards Ever's side like a baseball bat, feet skidding a little on the grassy, gravel pathway.

Usually, when Ever fought, there was a bit of banter -- a bit of teasing, or friendly competition. With Gale, it seemed, there wasn't quite enough familiarity to dive into that terrain. Instead he rolled with the blow, not quite enough to avoid the way it slammed into his shield, and brought the other half of his weapon around to catch Gail in the side. His expression was still bright, but it was focusing now, the friendly smile faded to something more intense. When it was all said and done, there was something about a fight (or a spar, at least) that Ever really, genuinely enjoyed. HP: 55/60 DMG: 6

He was okay with the lack of banter, mostly because Gale wasn't exactly the most talkative person there was in the world. But Ever seemed not to mind either, the focus on the fight, rather than playful interactions, the next swing sliding the blade along Gale's side.
It caught him off balance, Gale skidding a little; he redirected and pivoted, swinging the rifle out again in a wide arc that was meant for Ever's legs to try and knock him off balance.

Dakota was sitting next to Bix, arms crossed and watching the hunter fight.
Since there wasn't much banter, it let the fight take on a more serious somber tone. Except for Bix's ridiculous banner waving around.

Gale's blow hit but glancingly -- Ever stumbling gracelessly out of the way and back into his balance to swing in return, the point of his dagger thrust roughly toward Gale's midsection. It was the force of the stagger, probably, that gave it that extra strength; as much luck (or instinct?) as actual effort. He shook his head as he stepped back again, readying his weapon, and his eyes flicked out into the crowd. With a quirk of a smile, he looked back to Gale. "Seems you've got some fans." HP: 53/60 DMG: 14

As Ever's next swing sent Gale reeling backwards with a gasp, he twisted his head briefly around to catch sight of Bix, standing on the sidelines, along with, oddly enough, Dakota. He couldn't remember the last time he'd even seen Dakota, but Bix was a pleasant surprise.
Gale let out a snort, trying to shift his balance as Jinhai slid through his mind.
"Bix is just Bix," he said, but there was amusement in his voice, Gale swinging the rifle once more, gripping the barrel with both hands.

"He is definitely that," was Ever's wry agreement, an arm raised to take away some of Gale's blow -- which would probably mean a bruise later, however brief. He should have probably blocked with the sheath of his weapon, and after the fact he'd come to that realization. For now, he just shook his head and leaned in to slash at Gale, to drive him back another step. "Not bad to have on your side I'd imagine, though." HP: 48/60 DMG: 13

Zeke showed up about midway through, and unlike the other men gathered there to show support, he didn't bother to call out or make himself known. He knew Ever didn't need it, the string bean of a man packing an unexpected and considerable punch. So he just stood back and watched, arms folded loosely across his chest, a slight smirk playing across his lips.

That little dagger was doing a lot more damage than Gale would have thought - though underestimating weapons because of size and type was dangerous in and of itself, a lesson Gale had long since learned.
"Depends on what day of the week it is," he said dryly. "But we've been best mates for almost seven years now, so I suppose he's not half bad."

"Always seemed alright to me, if a bit pale." Ever said that cheerfully, though, because, well, he was no less pale. He quirked a smile as he swung out at Gale again, a quick and sharp strike out toward Gale. "And a bit goofy." Ever was that, too, maybe. HP: 48/60 DMG: 11
