The room was eerily quiet, interrupted only by the various hums, beeps, and chirps of machinery to remind anyone present that everything was on and running smoothly. Various coloured lights flickered on and off throughout.
It wasn't too long into the current shift, just long enough for the one on duty to get comfortable, before alarms began to shriek and lights began the flash. The source of the chaos; a pod almost like all the others. Except for one key difference, the person inside it was starting to move.
Her eyes shot wide open with shock and began darting all around her. Her ability to view anything, she realized rather quickly, was limited to the large thing she was in. As was any movement. Not that she had made an attempt at escape just yet.

Lin jumped when the alarms and flashing lights began. She'd been on duty here often enough by now to have gotten used to pod room duty being peacefully boring, a good time to read. She put a bookmark into the book and gathered up the clipboard that lay on the desk. She did at least know the procedure for an awakening, and that reassured her. She noted the number of the pod that had activated, and walked briskly down the aisles to find it.

As soon as Lin reached her pod, she'd find the occupants gaze squarely on her (even following her every movement like a creepy painting). Only the head clearly turned if she moved enough the eyes needed help.
Fortuna was keenly unsure about this situation. Sure, they didn't appear to be much of a threat to her, but looks could be deceiving, too. She'd decided internally to stay put, not even trying to test the pod door, to observe for a bit. See what they do.

Lin waited, ready to provide support if the inhabitant of the pod was too shaky to stand well. She'd been capable of staying upright on her own when she woke, but she was aware this was not always the case. The stasis the sleepers were in wasn't always easy to emerge from, she'd been told. The woman in the pod was clearly watching her, awake.
After a minute, she began to wonder if the pod was malfunctioning in some way, and she reached out to test its door.

Fortuna watched as Lin tested the handle. It was unlocked and easy to open. Fortuna just didn't want to. She continued to watch, expecting Lin to finish the job.

Lin checked her clipboard again, nonplussed. The data on the printout suggested that this woman was not one of the really long-term pod inhabitants, and thus shouldn't be having too much trouble getting out on her own. Perhaps she didn't realize she could get out. Lin swung the pod door open.

As soon as the pod door was fully opened, Fortuna took that moment to cross her legs and tuck her hands behind her head, getting slightly more comfortable.
"Hello there. With whom do I have the pleasure of meeting?"

Lin raised an eyebrow. "My name is Lin Parker," she said. She glanced at her clipboard again. "What name do you go by?" she asked politely.

"Forge," she answered with a lazy smile. "So you're not here to harvest my organs or anything? I mean, nothing wrong with that if you are. I just prefer them to stay put."

"No," Lin answered, giving the other woman a slightly puzzled look. "Do you remember anything about your recruitment, or is your memory still shaky?" This was not quite how she had expected this to go.

"I remember. Just, yanno, seemed pretty ******** far fetched you have to admit." She stretched out with an audible whine before finally moving to step out while looking around. "I take it that's a definite no on organ harvest then?"

"It is a stretch of the imagination, but it was true," Lin said. "There is no organ harvesting going on, to the best of my knowledge." It might not be out of the question entirely. Lin had been made aware that some candidates never bonded and did not survive. She wondered briefly about the potential utility of organs in that case; would the body deteriorate too much to allow for transplantable organs, or would they still be useful? Of course, then the question of transport and sale -- she cut off that line of thought. It wasn't currently useful.
"You are on an island," she went on. "This is the home of the organization called Deus Ex Machina. You have been in the pod for a few months. You have awakened because you have begun a weapon bond, which you must complete before you do anything further here."

"Ooooh, weapon?" Now Lin had her full attention. "You have one too?" She figured it was safe to assume, but wanted to see Lin's if she could and it was best to bring it up before, yanno, asking her to just whip it out.
