It was last train for the Darning Circle Subway Station on the Orange Line. The Graveyards coming off, through the doors and making straight for the stairs or turnstiles to hit their posts for the 1 a.m. clock-in. The stragglers and not drunk enough to be last callers of the 4 a.m. bar sceen, some 5 people at this stop, of Responsibles id the leg-to-leg weight shuffle waiting for the doors to clear in order to walk on to get seats. They were trying to hit the sack to catch a 5 hour nap before their hell-grind restarted. All of them, all of the above combined, were Targets.

Skeiðbrimir snuffled about in the ticket office, unmanned so late and the duty left to the ticket machines and turnstiles, while it’s General leaned against the tiled wall at the very end of the pedestrian platform. He looked weird enough, or death metal enough, that if any of the Targets had taken note, they’d also chosen not to make eye contact. He was an SEP, and was bucked to security, police, or literally anything or anyone else to deal with if he became obviously hostile while they all tried to get on or off the subway cars as fast as possible.

The General hastened the gather of energy in his dropped hand, hidden next to his thigh. Someone stumbled on the stairs, another collapsed like a drunk into one of the seats nearest the door they rushed through. The doors closed. The train pulled out. There was the sound of someone collapsing at the top of the stairs and some books and a cell phone clattered down them. He stopped, since the night had been profitable practice for so early on.

It had been another good night of practice--though Nix spent perhaps somewhat longer than he should have trying to literally run up a wall.

It didn't work that well, all told.

But now that it was getting late, time to head back home, get at least a bit of sleep...Along the way, though, he noticed an odd feeling from underground. It took him a moment to realize it was in a subway station.

He had a rather bad feeling about the whole thing--there was definitely something chaos going on down there, and that put up some warning flags in his mind, but he still wanted to see.

There was no way anyone could mistake Nix's outfit for anything other than a really garish costume or being one of the powered people around, so he really didn't try to blend in ever. Here, though, there didn't seem to be much need, as the first thing he encountered was someone passed out at the top of an escalator.

"Crap," Nix muttered, and ran to the lady on the ground. He figured out that she wasn't dead, so that was good...and no bleeding, either. So he decided to press on, and figure out what caused this.

The answer to the question didn't take long, as the large man with a...silver skull on his shoulder came into view immediately upon entering the subway station. Nix's eyes got wide as he realized he'd just walked in on one of the Negaverse generals--what else could this be?

He considered his options quickly--chances were good he'd been spotted, and this guy could teleport, so...maybe try something different.

In his best confident voice (he was barely more than 15, so there are limits), he said, standing confidently, "What...what are you doing to these people?" He glanced toward the tracks nearby, "You could kill somebody down here!"

An aura came near, in spite of the wide swath of coverage that a General’s aura gave as warning. It was a basic senshi by the feel of it. As steps came down from the street, a look at the senshi confirmed the fact. Their uniform was colorful, strange, but it wasn’t burdened by a lot of extra bells, whistles ribbons and ruffles that seemed to go along with promotion to higher ranks. He looked small, and young. Exacts were difficult to tell with grammar, but there was a roundness and lack of lines to the skin, and the pitch of voice, that went along with usual teen estimates. Either this senshi would never have one, or hadn’t hit the lion’s share of growth spurt. “Ja. “

“What are you doing down here?” It was easiest to use the senshi’s own sentences to form replies. The General started to slowly walk over to the little senshi, touching a pillar as he passed it with casual air. They got smaller, it seemed, the closer he got. “You could die down here. “

Nix's face had the beginnings of an indignant flush as the general more or less threw his question back at him...But it was rather quickly offset by a draining of color instead. The ease with which the man casually suggested death and murder. That was almost more frightening than how obviously powerful he was.

He was momentarily at a loss for words, but then he realized the general was approaching slowly. It was...not the best position to be in, standing at the base of the stairs as he was. "I could," he hedged, backstepping a couple of steps. Incredibly (to him), he did not stumble in doing that. "Though I don't think I'd like that much..." The initial (slightly forced) confidence in his voice had faded considerably, but he managed to not stammer. "Neither would these people." He gestured to the unconscious (he hoped, anyway) bodies all around.

Another step backward up the steps, and he stared right at the guy. "Gosh, you're big," he muttered, eyes wide. Even if he weren't a negaverse agent he'd still be intimidating, that much Nix was certain. He was trying to think of something to say to the guy to get him to leave, or back down, or something, but his mind was coming up with mostly just, "BIG" and "OMG MUSCLES." Not the most helpful.

“The dead don’t remember likes.” He didn’t summon his hammer to hand from it’s Nowhere-keeping. He kept walking. The stairs were still a possible escape for this one, backing and keeping his footing. In the subway tunnels, there was only escape up or down the tunnel off the platform, and that would require getting past his Youma to get to the tracks in the first place. Titanlåvenite vanished, reappeared on the stairs behind the senshi, walking down, trying to herd the small one further inwards to the station and platform.

Skeiðbrimir lowed from what must have been the door to the ticket office, signalling it was aware there was a hunt afoot.

“ Are you going to stop me?"

" From doing what? I have their energy. And how?”

A howl from nearby told Nix something very important that really, truly, he already knew...but was hesitating on:

Now would be a very good time to leave.

"Um, well," Nix started, staring at the general. His eyes darted toward the sound of a definitely-unfriendly youma for a split second, then back to the general...But there was no general. "GAH!" He looked around quickly, and found the man again, so he spun to face him again.

Nix had been planning on trying to distract the general and dash up the stairs but...that wasn't gonna work out very well now.

When will the train be back? he thought quickly, thinking of how else he might get out of this situation. This is what I get for not listening to Themi...

"You know," he said trying and failing to keep the nervousness out of his voice, while inching further in to the station. "I-I don't think I will! I'll just...be on my way, yeah? You have fun, uh..." He wiggled the fingers of his hand at the general, "Doing you. Byee!"

And then he started running. Probably not a great choice, but he thought if he could make it to the subway tracks, he could pull a crazy stunt to get out of this mess--crazy stunts where what he practiced doing every night, after all.

“You are not dismissed.”

With a General’s speed, Titanlåvenite was sure he could catch the boy. Besides, it had been the last train, and all the people there were passed out. Was he planning on running down the dark, unlit tunnel? The senshi is rightly afraid. He isn’t thinking straight. How new is he? He turns his back to a general. Runs toward what must be the General’s youma. He must not even know. That is a terrible thing. He needs to understand.

Titan considered that one moment, then followed the boy’s run, reaching. Trying to grab, and then lift him by his sailor suit off the ground.

Skeiðbrimir ran with the same sort of see-saw sprint as Earth’s bears, and it ran as fast at a sprint. The black general wasn’t worried about the senshi, even with double a man’s speed, beating out bear to the edge of the tacks. The Youma wanted to herd the boy back towards the General, and roared, drool strings curving out with the violent breath, to warn him. ‘I will eat you’ it warned, ‘I am big and dangerous.’

“Don’t care!” Nix called back, not stopping his run to the train platform.

He realized his mistake almost immediately, however—there were no more trains coming tonight. But too late now! He kept running, and could hear the general right behind him. So close. Getting caught would surely end poorly, but he didn’t have too much to grasp onto so maybe if he could…

Bear.

The scariest bear he’d ever seen (and Toby had seen one or two in person) was blocking his way. “Guh!” he sputtered, and skidded to a stop before realizing how bad of a choice that was, letting the man chasing him snatch easily…And suddenly he found himself in the embarrassing position of being held by the lily pad collar of his suit (at least it wasn’t by his sash, he briefly reflected).

Dangling as he was, he reached up and wrapped his hands around the hand on his collar and pulled to little effect. “Urk! Hey!” He grunted. “Not…cool…”

While he struggled against the grip, he took a deep, focusing breath (trying to tamp down the growing panic), and then twisted to one side and the other, making him just barely be able to face the general again as his lily pad strained.

As he turned, he opened his mouth, stuck out his tongue, and made a 'bleh!' sound...which caused a much larger ethereal tongue to shoot out...right for Titan's neck. The hit would be rather like a full on punch, which, Nix was pretty sure, might not even faze the guy.

But he had to try.

Cornering an animal, and catching it up, was common sense grounds for some form of retaliation. The general expected a blow, or the senshi to deploy their magic. He hadn’t expected the exact form of it. For a moment after the punch-tongue squarely hit he didn’t move. The giant hadn’t even tried to dodge it—had that been the boy’s own real tongue or a fake one? It was a little horrific if the magic did that every time to the real one. He coughed a few times, working muscles and throat to clear and draw breath again.

Skeiðbrimir came nearer to low and paw toyingly at the dangling green feet.

At last, Titan coughed out hoarsely, “Are you done?”

The surprised, coughing reaction to his tongue hit was very heartening, and Nix struggled some more, hoping to break out of the grasp while the general recovered.

Of course, he didn't get away, and soon there was that big scary bear swatting at him too. It...didn't seem like it was trying to rip his feet off, though. All the same, he picked them up away from the swatting.

And still he couldn't break free.

He huffed once, then slumped a bit (legs still lifted up). "Yes...you...you got me," he admitted sullenly. That he wasn't dead yet--or worse--was somewhat heartening. "What, uh...what are you gonna do now...?"

“Try to talk to you.” Titan lowered the small senshi, even with legs drawn up, down to where the green kneel could be safely deposited onto the platform and a return to agency again. “If you will talk. You could have died tonight. It is not good.“

Could have, and hopefully saying as much would relate to the little one that he wasn’t going to unless he wanted to push the situation.

“It is bravery? Or you do not understand our auras? How long since a cat gave you your pen? Are you still learning from this cat? What is your name, little Senshi? You should not try to face a General and their youma, alone, unless you are very decided it must be. It would be a sacrifice. ”

“Or unless you will bend the knee to the Queen.”

“Talk?” he echoed softly, and looked up at the general’s face with a surprised, confused look. When he realized he was being lowered, he let his feet go back down to stand…He didn’t like the idea of kneeling right there, even if it was just ‘talk’. “I…can talk, yeah…” He nodded, eyes wide. This was not what he’d expected to have happen, that was for sure.

“I, uhm, well, I’ve never seen a general before. I thought maybe I could…peek and then take off again, but then you spotted me, and well…what was I gonna do?” He shrugged lightly. Calling out the general hadn’t been his best idea, but he did it after he knew he’d been spotted, at least. “My name’s Nix,” he told the general, figuring there wasn’t any real harm in that. “And I’m still learning, well, everything. I was on my way to, uh,” he trailed off and decided to not explain what he usually did with his time, and just shook his head, muttering, “Nevermind…”

“I…I don’t want to bend the knee,” he said softly, looking off to the side. “That, uhm…doesn’t lead anywhere I want to go.” After saying that, he blinked once, and turned his head quickly to look back in the big man’s eyes. “Erm, that is…no…offence?

"Many Generals will not speak to an enemy except for banter while fighting. Feeling a General's aura is already too close, and we can feel from city blocks away. Seeing a General is deadly. We do not have to see each other to know who is around us. You can feel it? The waves in the throat like choking smoke, or like everything is dim when you are near me? When you are near my Youma? It is stronger or weaker the closer we are? " He shook his head slowly, not taking offense. "You do not have to be given a choice. You can be made to take the black. Our Throne is not a kind one. "

Metallia was a tyrant.

"Skeiðbrimir, hssssst!" The youma stopped trying to nose or paw at the senshi with the command. Attentive, it awaited the next instructions. "That one, with the blue shirt and khakis."

The youma dutifully started dragging over the passed out Best Buy associate. "I will show you, Nix, what permission we do not need. You must understand the war, and you do not have much time to learn it. You should have died tonight. You know what are 'starseeds'? "

The mention of not needing permission was…a bit disconcerting, and Nix’s heart beat a bit faster with worry and fear. Though he still paid careful attention to what the general was saying and doing, he was pretty sure if the man wanted to do anything more to him…there was very little he could manage to do about it.

The mention of starseeds made his eyes get wide once again, and a hand went protectively to his chest—clearly he did know what a starseed was—before he nodded and said, “Y-yeah, I know what a starseed is,” He looked worriedly at the unconscious associate before turning his gaze back to the general. “I-I saw somebody crush one once…”

Left unsaid was that the crushed seed belonged to his friend, and was the majority of the reason why he tried so hard to be a good, competent senshi.

Of course, being caught like this, and even daring to get as close to a general as he did, was clear signs to him that he was not succeeding in that regard. If I get out of this, he thought, I’ve gotta be a lot more careful…and stronger.

It also briefly occurred to him that the way this man acted seemed strange, like he didn’t like doing what he was doing. So he offered one more statement, hoping to at least not have made things worse for the people down here, “So…y-you don’t need to show what can happen. That person doesn’t deserve to die.”

“My need and your need do not matter. You should have died tonight. “ The last was a repetition, but the senshi didn’t seem to understand. It is about Metallia’s needs. Or wants. What needs does a being like that have?

“ This is not a game. You will not bend your knee willingly tonight. You do not have permission from our throne to be here with your world-seed and noble fate. This civilian will remind you this is a war. You have seen this before; you want to sightsee a General. “ Skeiðbrimir’s efforts sloughed the civilian near it’s General’s feet. It lifted the human, a dangling sack doll of a figure, as it stood on its hind legs.

The nametag on the blue shirt said ‘Nina’. Titanlåvenite’s hand entered and exited the thin chest, pulling a energy-dimmed starseed. “This one pays. I do not bring you to the throne. The dog dies for the lion. We must both... live with this. You will study auras more, ja?“
