It wouldn't have been cold tonight, not for him, but it was windy tonight and that made it cold for the General. He stood with is back to the wind, to keep it from his face, his cheeks were already tinted red from the cold winds which had been blowing for the last half an hour or so. There had been a slight breeze before that, something that was fairly easy to ignore, but now it was impossible to ignore. Now he was going to warm up. He knew the local park had some barbecue fire spots where fires could be lit and he was sure he could find a pit and start a fire, having taken the time to power down and pick up a cheap lighter.

Teleporting from the roof top of the convince store the General arrived in the park and started his hunt for the barbecue fire spots he knew littered the park.

It was once one was found that wood was gathered and dumped into the pit and some dried leaves added before he set the leaves on fire. Watching as the flame took hold and the crackling sound of the fire devouring leaves and wood filled the small area. It was warm as he sat down on one of the big logs they had set up around the pit. His gloved hands reached out to warm themselves as he watched the fire, the light dancing against the darkness of the secluded area. It would be unwise for any to try and bother the General and most wouldn't...at least most who were powered, who would go after a General after all?

Whisler had the issue that he not only didn’t mind the aura of a General…but often times he sought it out, hoping that it would be…well. His General. Not that he really…felt much of anything right now. It had been months since he had last seen Ashanite and the meeting hadn’t gone well…

He had expected more news about the big mission that he had been planning, but it seemed as though Whisler was out of favor now…which well…it suited him well enough. He was content.

…But that didn’t stop him from heading towards the General’s aura…or his heart from falling when it wasn’t Ashanite.

It was still someone he knew though, and for a moment he wasn’t sure if he should feel relieved or more worried when he saw that it was Beni. The general who had cradled his head in his lap and who had been so utterly bitter and mean when he had discovered that Whisler was glowing. Benitoite the General who had started his whole journey in this stupid war. The first one to fondle his starseed, the one who had seemed so earnest about bringing him home.

With a long sigh, Whisler moved closer. “Hey Beni. Happy New Year. I hope you’re well.”

A knight headed his how...how nice. He wasn't sure if he should be annoyed, angry, or just resigned to this. Knights and eternals were really the only ones who would seek out his aura, most others being smart enough not to. This one felt different though, a feeling he knew by now, this one would have glowing markings decorating their body. For a moment he wondered why the Negaverse didn't have similar...maybe it would bother those of the white moon more, keep them away better.

Looking up, and over his shoulder, towards the owner of the voice he felt a smile tug at his lips. Well, well, well this was a surprise.

"The same to you." Motioning to the wooden logs surrounding the fire pit. "Have a seat...though you do look rather prepared for tonight's weather." The uniforms that Polaris knights had seemed perfect for this weather....and yet the senshi herself lacked when it came to proper attire for this weather - how tragic....

"Tell me, what brings you here after my aura?" Because he had no doubt the other had sought out his aura, whether he knew who it belonged to or not. "Still seeking out another General and being disappointed?"

Whisler felt a wave of relief when Beni didn’t seemed to be too upset with him. He was glad. He didn’t want there to be a fight. Moving closer, the knight took a seat on one of the logs, and then chuckled. “Yeah, that’s the one good thing about this outfit is that I’m always winter ready. It’s a pain when the weather isn’t as cold though.”

He paused, looking at his former General with a little concern. “If you’re cold, you are more than welcome to come and share my cape, if you’d like. It’s lovely and warm.” Whisler winked and reached his hands towards the fire, relishing the warmth that spread from it and sighing in contentment.

“I wasn’t really seeking anyone out, but since I felt a General, naturally I was curious. And since I only ever have the luck to run in to one of two of you, I figured it would be someone that I knew and someone that I liked, and I wasn’t wrong.”

Grinning, Whisler held a hand out towards Benitoite. “Who could ever feel disappointment in seeing you, Beni. You’re a treasure.”

"My uniform may not be as winter ready but the same can be said for my own." He had once been close to bringing this knight back to him, back to the fold, and making up for whatever he had lacked as a General back then. He had lost him though just as he had recently lost Bazzite. Their Queen wanted him to bring back Bazzite...but perhaps in the meantime he could try this again? Though those markings told him it was impossible...this was all magic though so maybe not?

Raising a brow at the other, as he was winked at, he shook his head. "Are you flirting with me, a General?" He questioned, something of a playful note entering his voice. He wasn't upset, there was no bait for him to take, but it was amusing to think about the other flirting with him.

Now he outright laughed, though he took the offered hand and stood. "A treasure? I doubt everyone would agree with you - especially those on your side. Most would like to see me dead I'm sure." Of that he had little doubt. In six years he'd made plenty of enemies and bore the scars from a few of them. Making his way towards the other he sat himself at the others side, clearly shorter than the other as well as far more petite in stature.

"You make me sound like a good guy when I do believe most would say otherwise...Why do you think so well of me? I wasn't the General to you that I should have been after all." Not to mention everything else he'd done, and would do in the future.

Whisler laughed. “No, I’m flirting with you, my friend.” It didn’t matter that he was a General, or at least that was what Whisler kept telling himself. When Benitoite came over and sat next to him, the Knight’s eyes brightened and he flung his cape—as well as his arm over the General’s shoulders. “There we go. That’s better.” The fire was nice, and having someone to sit and share it with was even nicer.

“Honestly, Beni. It doesn’t matter what ‘most’ would say. You’re a good guy in my eyes at the very least. You…you’re…you were my General. Shouldn’t I continue to have respect for you even after leaving? It just makes sense to me. I mean. I’m sure it wasn’t your fault that I left.”

He gently rubbed the General’s shoulder as they sat there, growing more thoughtful as he stared into the flames.

“I wish I knew why I did it. But…I’m not even really sure who to ask…maybe Camelot. I haven’t talked to him in a while…I think…he was there. I know he was there. And I think he’s the one that did it, but…I could be wrong.”

So the other was flirting with him but didn't see him as a General - interesting. The other was an interesting individual. Rolling his eyes as he let the other drape an arm over his shoulders, it really wasn't such a bad thing. He did hope the other knew that nothing would come from the flirting, as amusing as it was.

"Perhaps you think that...I don't know many who would. And I'm rather surprised you'd respect me, even if I'd been your General." To many the difference in side was all that mattered, the aura someone carried. But Whisler was not one to subscribe to that idea, obviously. He still gave him respect when he was sure it was his fault the other had left, he really was sure of it. It was one thing, among several, that he had figured he had screwed up along the way. Six years in a war led to many things, some good and some bad...some fails and some triumphs. This had been a fail of his.

"Does it matter why you left?" He asked, suddenly looking up at the other. "What's done is done and cannot be reversed. In some cases the hands of time can, in a way, be turned back...but not here. And even so to do so would remove more memories...make you someone else - someone not you." Because if you forgot things you lost yourself and then who were you if not you? Memories, experiences, they made a person. The memory loss was one thing he utterly disliked, it was cruel in his mind.

Whisler reached up and combed his fingers through the General’s hair and sighed, closing his eyes and just enjoying the closeness and the soft warmth of the fire. “Well, I don’t see why it would surprise you. I’ve never thought of myself as disrespectful…not towards you, at least. You care about me, and I appreciate that. More than you know.”

Benitoite’s sudden question made him pause, and then frown. He was almost seeming like…he didn’t want him to come back. Like it didn’t…

“I don’t understand…why are you saying these things, Beni? Why don’t you want me to find out why I left…? Maybe if I knew that…I could…” He stopped himself and sighed, all of the good feelings leaving him as he considered the words. “But…if I learn all I can…maybe I can record it…and then…I could re-teach it to myself…or if you knew why I left…we could prevent it from happening again…It just…I don’t know. It made sense to me.”

Smiling at the others words, though he did wonder if he'd cared enough in the past, he nodded slowly. "I'll accept that..and it's good to know it means a lot to you. But does no one else care for you so much?" Was he now, as a knight, alone in this war? Did he have no one to stand at his side, or at his back?

"Because....if I was the cause of it." If he had been the reason the other wouldn't come back, because he would have confirmation that he had in fact failed an officer of his. Shaking his head he reached up to lay a hand on the others shoulder.

"Six years serving, no matter what side, is a long time. Failures happen and so do victories. I just suffered one such loss, a rather deep one..." And he didn't want to know, without a doubt, that he'd failed Whisler and was the reason he'd left. He knew he was being honest, brutally so, and most wouldn't open themselves up so much especially to someone on the other side in this war. Benitoite had always been honest with is officers, more so now than ever before, he wanted them to feel like a team..a family. He wanted Whisler back, without a doubt, but if he'd failed...would the other come back? Would the other trust him? He hoped the other understood him, understood what he wasn't saying.

“I have people who care about me…but they don’t like to talk about my…uh. Chaotic tendencies…so we don’t really…we don’t really bring up difficult conversations often.”

The hand on his shoulder surprised him, and caused the night to seem a little warmer. Benitoite was worried that he had been the cause of Whisler’s betrayal. “Beni I don’t think that’s the case at all.” His voice was gentle, gentle and warm. “If you were like this when I was your lieutenant…I can’t imagine why I would ever want to leave the care of someone as wise and handsome as you…did…”

He paused and pursed his lips. “Did I ever try to get you in bed with me? It seems like something I would do. You’re more than attractive enough…”

Whisler moved his hand to brush some stray hairs from the General’s face and frowned slightly. “What do you mean you suffered one such loss? Are you okay? Would you like to talk about it…? I care about you, and if I can do anything to help, I will. All you ever have to do is ask.”

So he had people on the other side but they just wanted to sweep things under the rug and act like it wasn't a thing. That was somewhat annoying. It was a part of the knight and it couldn't just be swept away but of course the other side did it, because he had been chaos but wasn't anymore and they hated chaos. He wanted to roll his eyes over it, it was almost expected really. The other side was pathetic.

Shaking his head he smiled. "No, you never tried. I think you may have flirted once but you wanted distance from me....to accept things. I gave you that...and the next time I see you..well...you were a knight." He worried he had given him too much time to himself, that he should have tried to get closer sooner, before the change. But he had hoped the other would come to him, he had wanted to respect the others wishes.

Leaning into the touch, closing his eyes even, he sighed. "I didn't bring Bazzite into the Negaverse, he wasn't one of mine but he became one of mine. He moved in with me, his mother sent him to live with me, I was to take care of him. I accidentally turned him into a youma...I was emotionally compromised at the time and not thinking, coupled with a lack of knowledge. I bound him to myself and recently he purified....became a knight." It was a short, very short, way of telling the story but he didn't want to drag it out and wind up an emotional mess as he knew he would. He worried the other knowing he'd made a youma would turn the other away from him....but he hadn't meant to - he never would have done such on purpose.

"We were bonded for years...." And it had hurt when it had broken, almost more than when he'd been brought into the Negaverse.

"There is nothing I can do but make peace with it. I can try and bring him back but I doubt that will work." Even if he did what part of Bazzite, of Johnathan,
would remain by then? The memory loss...it would take it all away likely.

“If I could do it over I would have sought you out, Beni…I’m sorry I failed you.” His words were soft and he closed his eyes, wishing once more that the glowing snowflakes didn’t exist. That he had never become Whisler in the first place. That he could be sitting here, comfortable with his General and they could truly be friends.

He listened to the story of Bazzite and frowned slightly, curling his arm around Benitoite’s shoulder once more and pulling him against his own chest. “I’m so sorry that happened. I know you didn’t mean to do it, it was an accident…and I’m sure it wasn’t your fault that he purified…Beni, if he was that close to you, I’m sure he would be willing to come back…those bonds of trust and friendship are never really broken…I mean…look at us. Sure we hit a few stumbling blocks…” He shrugged. “But you’re still my General. I’m sure if you were to have the chance to speak to him, he would come home too, don’t you think?”

Whisler buried his face against the top of Benitotie’s head and placed a kiss in his hair. “The bonds of chaos linger…purification can’t completely destroy them…at least in my own experience. I’m sure he would come home to you if he knew how much you wanted him to…”

"Perhaps we failed each other..." Perhaps that was the case...poor communication and a failure to verbalize, or act, on what should have been. "I would, if I could, do things different as well in regard to you." He didn't like losing people, it felt like he'd failed them somehow. There were others out there...others he'd corrupted who had vanished without a word and, as far as he figured, one dead.

A soft sigh passed his lips as he let the other pull him against their chest. It was nice being close to someone and for this to not be so...awkward, even though the feeling of being so close to someone of order was strange. The others aura was as strong as his own and spoke of transcendence, he was surprised no one had turned up to investigate their signatures being so close."I hope...but I worry if I can bring him back that there will be nothing left of who he was. The memory damage may be too much." And he didn't want to cause more damage, but at the same time he wanted to be greedy and reclaim Bazzite.

Biting down on his bottom lip he found himself laughing softly, unable to hold it in. "Do you want to come home? If you could?" He questioned softly, honestly curious. He knew it wasn't possible but he had to know. If he could bring back Whisler, if the other wanted it, he would. But there was no way to his knowledge. But it would, in a way, help to know.

"I would bring you back if I could...if you wanted it." If it was possible, if the other wanted it, he'd have called for someone to do what his hands could not do.

Whisler was far too used to being close to the aura of a General that it didn’t seem uncomfortable or strange at all to be holding Benitoite. It felt natural. Safe and welcoming. There was something about the dark feeling of chaos auras that comforted him rather than repulsed him as they should. Maybe it was because he had spent so much time around Ashanite. Or maybe it was because that was just his true nature…underneath all the glowing.

“You’ll never know if you don’t try, Beni. And I’m sure if you reminded him how much you care, how much you miss him…he wouldn’t hesitate. And you can’t think of it as if he would be a new person…he would still be your Bazzite. You could make new memories. Sure the old ones might be gone…but if he’s purified…” One of Whislers hands slid down and took Benitoite’s, slipping his fingers between the Generals and giving a slight squeeze. “Maybe him forgetting all of that is for the best. If he has no ties to order, won’t he be happier with you? It wouldn’t be good to lie to him, but he would have no way of knowing if you told him that he missed you so much and came back…right?”

He took a moment to consider the question that was presented, and gave a heavy sigh. “I…I don’t know. My heart is telling me yes, in this moment, yes. I want to say that I would come home if I had the chance, but I have things…people who would be very upset…I…”

Whisler shrugged. “I wouldn’t want to corrupt without them with me…but I’m always having a difficult time with convincing them. For some reason the subject…isn’t a good one for him.” He gave a wry smile and sighed. “Besides…I can’t do anything until these damn transcendence markings are gone…but…I was working on that. Or at least I thought I was…my helper has kind of fallen off the face of the earth so…I don’t really know what’s going on.”
