There was a tapping of 3 knocks at the door before Melvin entered the shared office of Lex, Zeke, and Harley. He'd never been in the room before, seeing as many offices lined the Life Labs and were usually either shared offices or ones with many people sharing a small space.
Looking inside, he tried to see if anyone was there. "Hello?"

Zeke was there, frowning over something on his phone, his free hand holding pen loosely over a sheet of notes. He blinked at the tapping, glancing up to the door as Melvin poked his head in. "Hey." It came with a slow smile, the phone lowering until it touched the desk, and Zeke set it down, powering down the screen as he nudged it away from him. It wasn't the biggest office, but it was big enough to hold a large desk, and a smaller one. Shelves lined most of the walls, and those held various books, binders, and notebooks. There was a tank closer to where zeke was sitting, filled with a combination of aquatic and surface plants, the area inside split so the inhabitant could swim or crawl around on a little island. In the upper right hand corner of the tank there was a sticker of a taco. Zeke turned in his chair. "What's up?"

"Not much. Running this over for Penny. One of you needed a laptop fixed." He said, showing the tablet they used for signatures to keep their runic deliveries. "She hurt her leg on a mission so I'm doing Penny's deliveries for her while she works at her desk. If you could sign for this." He explained, moving over to the desk and sitting on the corner of it as he leaned over and gave Zeke the tablet.
As he did, he looked about the office. "Nice. Takes a lot to get a office." He peered to the side to see the tank, which held most of his interest.
"Working alone today?"

Zeke's brows arched at the laptop Melvin had in his hands, then back to the man in question before holding a hand out for the tablet so he could sign it. "Not as hard as you'd think, actually." He noted as he clicked his pen a couple of times and scribbled out his name. The tablet was offered back. "You need to have a viable reason to need one, and a specialty, but beyond that they didn't seem too hard to talk them into making one available." He held his hands out the laptop. "For the moment, other than Taco." Taco was the maidmer Melvin had given him when he'd gone down to visit the other man in Atlantis. The mini moved in the tank, as if it could hear Zeke talking about it, and pressed it's little hands to the glass as it looked up at both of them. "Harley is out...somewhere," he said with a shrug. "And Lex is on watch somewhere, I think."

"Huh. Well I'm the only person with mine, and Atlantis has a room. I'd rather do runic work in our main lab too. More people around, and they like when I declutter the back storage room." He said, taking the tablet and passing over the fixed laptop.
"Seems you're the only person manning the fort then. Mind if I hang out and avoid going back to the labs?"

"Sure, if you want." It wasn't too unusual for Zeke to be the only one around. Harley and Lex, still trainees, had other duties they had to worry about on top of working with him. It meant it got very quiet in the office, unless Zeke felt like playing music. "Why do you want to avoid going back to the labs?" He took the laptop and laid it on the desk beside his notebook.

"It's not my turn to pick the music and I don't want to listen to country today." He said, moving a chair over and sitting down.
"And I've been working on a fridge all morning to replace one that broke in one of the common room kitchens. Not exactly exciting." He leaned back into the chair and took off his glasses to give his eyes a break.
"Don't you get bored being in such a quiet office?"

"Ah," he said. The music alone was really answer enough. "I don't blame you for hiding out. Who the ******** likes country?" He snorted softly. Brows quirked at the question. "Not really. It's not any different from when I was working in my dorm, to be honest." He shrugged. "It's actually kind of nice, since half the time I'm in the infirmary, dealing with emergency s**t. The quiet is nice."

He stared at Zeke and then looked to the side, quiet as he listened. It was deadly silent with the door shut, without so much as the sound of footfalls further down the hallway. There were no clocks here, so no ticking, and aside from teh occasional sound of movement from the maidmer, it was still.
"It sounds horrible. Don't you get enough silence in your dorm room?"

That made him smile, and he shook his head. "No, not usually. If I'm actually there, I usually have company." If he wasn't, and he wasn't working, he was probably in the neighboring room with Ever. There just weren't many moments that Zeke found himself alone anymore, especially outside one or the other job. "You don't like quiet?"

He shook his head. "Never have. I came from a big family. Hearing them always made me know somewhere was nearby. When I started hearing things at night, I used to put on headphones and listen to the loudest music I could find. Sometimes I'd need to walk out once in a while to catch my breath if I felt things were overbearing, but even then you could hear birds and the trees. We don't have that here. Silence to me is just a reminder there is no one around anymore and that this place isn't like home."
He set his hands crossed upon the desk and laid his head there, watching Zeke. "What do you think about when it's quiet?"

He supposed he could see the appeal of noise if that was what you'd grown up with. "I was an only child in a fairly quiet home." It hadn't really ever bothered him, not even when he'd started seeing things in shadows and at the corners of his vision. He liked music, and there were plenty of times when it played the backdrop to his work or research, but if he forgot, it just slipped his mind. Leaning to the side, Zeke propped his elbow on the desk and sank his cheek down into his upturned hand, meeting those pale eyes. "I usually think about my work, since that's the only time I'm really only anymore."

"All that quiet time and you still think of work. You'd think you'd daydream a bit while working on things." He teased, glancing about the room before looking back at Zeke.
"There are plenty of desolate bases with barely a person around for miles that could help with any quiet time if you wanted that. People get shipped off to them all the time to get away from things."

Zeke gave a an amused sniff, nose wrinkling just a bit. "I don't mind the quiet time I have, when I have it. I'm not really interested in increasing it." There was a certain comfortable balance to things now that he quite liked. "I'm not looking to get away from anything. I like the people in my life and the relationships I have with them. I like my job," he tipped his head, amending. "Jobs. There's no reason to want to go anywhere."

"Alright. Alright. Savor the moments when you don't have coworkers." He said, thinking about it.
"But if you could go anywhere in the world, where would you go?" He had already had leave with Ever, who didn't seem like he went many places. and had told him he wanted to go to France. Thinking about it, he also mentioned the quiet when he was sleeping in the hotel.
