Melvin was undergoing a few projects set up for the evening. Goal one was to get good at running. The other was to find a place he could plan a den. Someplace to store things that no one else could tamper with. For now, he was working on running, and after leaving his home as a rabbit, moved out to a neighboring plot of land and was running back and forth from a broken section of what used to be a wall across the grass to a rusted lamp post.
It was bright in this area which meant there weren't any shadowlings to deal with and since he was off the road, he didn't have to look around for any passing cars from Deus' construction team that often renovated houses for hunters. Overall, it felt safe for him to practice.

Seren had been doing a longer run, while Rhys was off on duty. She usually preferred to run with him, but today? Today she was feeling antsy and energetic, and needed to move, so she had gone for a run. She had texted Rhys, to let him know, in case he got back earlier then she thought, changed into her leggings and her high backed tank top that she ran in, and set out. She found herself, towards the end of the run, feeling kind of tired, and looked around, then found a broken piece of wall. She ran over to it, then jogged a little in place before she felt she could sit down without worrying about locking up any muscles. After a moment, she took a sip of water, before she noticed some motions nearby. She paused, and looked around, then realized there was a... rabbit? A BLUE rabbit?... running back and forth. She stared at it, and then said "Oh my god. I don't know why you're here, or blue, but you are ADORABLE."

He was more focused on the grass and catching his breath when he heard the voice call out to him. The sudden noise made him jump up in place before turning about and freezing, pressing himself low to the ground before, remembering the voice was human and that hunters were on his side, he slowly rose his body up. Rising up to stand, he sniffed about and turned to see Seren over on the wall.
What she had said wasn't anything suspicious, but he had picked out the word Adorable.
Turning, he slowly hopped over toward the wall and stood up on his back legs, placing his paws on the wall to look up at her.

Seren's eyes widened as the strange blue bunny hopped over to her. It wasn't going to run from her voice? It was approaching? Her expression was one of mixed disbelief and amazement. When the cute bunny stopped besides her, she stared down at him, eyes wide. Finally, she leaned down, slow and careful, and held her fingers out where the bunny could sniff them.
"Hello there..." She said, in a softer, gentle voice, the sort someone might use with a skittish, or potentially skittish, animal to try to convince it that the person wasn't dangerous. "Aren't you a cute little bunny? But how on earth did you get out here, and... your fur color is so odd..." She was using her other hand to balance, or she'd have reached up to brush the lock of hair that fell across her face away. "I won't hurt you, little guy, I promise..."

He could play the part of a wild, skittish rabbit, but he had limited time with his artifact each day, and that meant he decided to cut the act of "warming up" to a stranger and went right into being already domesticated. It was easier and it meant it wouldn't be so odd for him to enjoy the company of other people.
As she knelt down to let him sniff her hand, he followed with the charade and gave it a few tentative sniffs, glad that her hands didn't smell of anything she recently eaten but instead of hand soap. Then he rose up as high as his small, pudgy soft body allowed and pressed the crown of his head against the palm of her hand.

Seren gave a soft, happy gasp at the way his head bumped into her hand. He was so soft, this bunny! She hoped she didn't smell too sweaty, after her run, but she couldn't resist giving his soft, fluffy head a gentle pet, and then soft scratches behind his ears. "I wonder if you're somebody's pet? You're just so friendly..." Her voice was soft, but filled with joy at the way the bunny had responded positively to her. She, carefully and slowly, shifted off the wall to settle onto the grass next to the rabbit. What was a little dirt next to a chance to make good friends with a sweet bunny? "I think you're the first being I've met who responded to me in such an affectionate way so quickly. Took me a lot more time, for instance, for Rhys to get comfortable enough for more then a handclasp..." She said, quietly, her eyes gentle.

He had debated being a pet. It would ensure that people knew he was someone's and in turn would be missed if they decided to have any cruel intentions for him. It would also be a good cover of why he was so friendly. Paired with the idea that said owner could take him to places without it being as suspicious as a rabbit showing up on it's own volition.
Maybe a easy slip collar with a tag, but he would hate to assign himself a name when Mik had already done so.
When Seren sat, he decided to continue her joy of being friendly by moving around her snd crawling into her lap before turning on his side. There was a loveliness in being considered automatically innocent, cute, and loving with no effort other than being a rabbit.
It also made you listen in on people talking to themselves and he looked up, listening attentively.

When the pretty blue bunny crawled right into her lap, her eyes went huge, and bright, and her smile just grew. "Whoever it is that keeps you, and takes such good care of you, is a lucky person to have such a wonderful companion. I can't imagine a rabbit doing so well on this insane island, otherwise." She gently began petting down his side, giving his ears little scratches at the top of each pet.
"I always wanted a pet, you know..." Her voice was soft, and a little longing. "But as far as my parents were concerned, I was a bad enough problem, from the moment I came home. Once my brother was born, maybe a pet would have happened... if they'd cared to have something that might distract from how wonderful they felt he was, and he never asked for one, so... nope. Even though you're a bunny, and can't understand me, thank you for being so friendly."
"It's strange, talking to an animal, but freeing. I know you can't understand me, just my tone, really... and you can't tell anyone... so I can trust you with so much. Who knew being around an animal was so freeing?" She looked around, for a moment, making sure nobody was nearby, then, cheeks oddly pink, she leaned down and pressed a kiss to the bunny's soft fur. "Anyways, I'm glad you're such a sweet fellow. It's nice being just liked, without having to work for it. Sometimes it feels like I need to be the one seeking out friends, which makes me wonder if I'm just not someone people want to be around."
She paused, then added "Rhys helps there, though. He's made it so clear he wants to be with me." Her smile got loving for a moment, then she refocused on the animal. "And now you. Such a sweetie, yes."

He turned his head, granting access to Seren for any part she might want to pet or scratch before settling on his side, happy to be showered in attention and affection without any sort of screaming alarm about him being a pervert or a creep.
The kiss to his brow had him looking up, but he said nothing. People kissed animals all the time, but there was a tinge of guilt in that she kissed him without knowing and being in a relationship. If Rhys knew, he might get a punch for it.
As she said her final "yes," he nodded at her and then leaned again to listen.

Seren giggled and gave him a gentle belly rub, curious to see if the bunny would like that. "I wonder if you like being brushed. I'll have to see if I can get a pet brush next time I'm off island, in case I get lucky and meet you again." She gave his nose a gentle booping with her other hand, her blue eyes shining with happiness. She blinked at the nod, and tilted her head. Her tone was confused, and JUST bordering suspicious, when she next spoke. "Did you... nod?" Her brows came together. "No... No, I gotta be misinterpreting things. You probably just bobbed your head up and down. You're a bunny... You can't understand me, just tone..." She sounded like she was reassuring herself. "Gotta be that..." She took a slow, deep breath, moving her hand to gently scritch him between his ears. "You kinda remind me of my second grade class pet... We had a bunny, but she was a natural color for a bunny. A soft cream, with some chocolaty brown spots. She was a lot shyer then you... Probably because she was around second graders... But once she warmed up to a kid, she was very snuggly. Most of the other kids didn't have the patience to try to coax her to like them, though. They all had friends to play with, and that was more exciting then a bunny who wanted to hide in her bunny box. I didn't have friends, as usual, so... when I wasn't doing homework early, or reading, if I could be inside during recess, I was befriending Lily." She closed her eyes for a moment, and sighed. "Lily, though, was old when I got into that class. She died, in the spring. I hope you're much younger, or maybe that, for whatever reason you're blue, you have a longer life span." She paused, then added "And I hope you never go into the jungle, it's not safe for bunnies..."

He watched as she realized and then quickly denied that a blue rabbit capable of living on Deus wasn't capable of anything beyond simple rabbit intelligence. While he could test talking to prove otherwise, simple rabbit body language felt safer.
She co tinued to recount a story if a rabbit of her past and a sad recess before he looked out in the direction of the jungle and then back at her, shaking his head. He woukdn't be going there just yet. He needed burrows first.

She continued to pet the pretty rabbit, enjoying how soft his fur was. It was so easy to get lost in petting a friendly animal, she was finding. Comforting, relaxing, and warm... She gave a small sigh of contentment. The head shake made her pause, and her eyes widened. "Ok, this time I can't ignore that... that was a head shake, and not the kind that's like shaking yourself off." She stared down at the rabbit, her expression nervous. "You... did that while glancing at the jungle, after I mentioned it..." She was silent for a long moment, then she finally, tentatively, asked "Can you... understand me?"

There was no denying that response, and how he had moved. She stayed still, unable to move or decide what to do, for a good long moment, before she finally said "All right, you... are a sapient bunny. You're still friendly, and willing to snuggle... Being sapient means you're less like to get yourself hurt, because you're smart enough to avoid dangers. That... that's a good thing..." She was silent again, then said, her voice nervous, "C...can you communicate, beyond simple body language?" She glanced at his paws, unable to resist the 'they're so cute!' smile that flickered across her face, then back at his face. "I doubt you could... write with those paws, but... can you, I don't know... talk, or something...?"

He moved his paws up and down as if to test their flexibility and knew a pen would not work. He had tested holding things at home and it had been a struggle. As for talking, considering a owl he knew, it probably was possible.
He just didn't want to give his identity away.
So he tilted his head and then shook it as if deciding no or maybe or however she wanted to take it.
He hopped down and tried nudging his paws in the ground to test writing but his limbs were small and his fur thick, wiping away as he dug his paws which really just made him look like he was digging and not writing.
Failing at that he turned about and wiped off his nose with his paws. It would need to be body language. With dust in his fur he tried to itch at his ear with fordt his front paw and then a back leg but lost balance and fell over. Not having hands was a challenged.
