Carmen had enjoyed her "vacation" of pretending to be a normal cat for a while. Awareness could be annoying sometimes, and while she couldn't quite turn it off, she could play pretend and sort of pretend she was just a normal cat. She suspected that the war was going on just fine without her, though she did feel pangs of guilt about giving up on things for a bit. All the little pokes of guilt eventually built up, and after a while, she quit messing around. There had to be some unawakened senshi somewhere that she could find and give the good old 101. While padding out of an alley one fine winter day (praise be to her fluffy fur), she thought she felt it. Someone, somewhere, there was an unawakened senshi! It seemed to be coming from... She strolled over to a certain tall lady with striking eyes and gave her a polite meow in greeting. She sat near the potential future senshi's feet and stared up at her; it might have looked a little like she was smiling.

The period of time right after Christmas was a terrible one. Of course, it wasn’t quite as bad as the week between Christmas and New Years, when the cheerful music suddenly stopped but you wanted to keep celebrating…but it was darn close. Especially when all of the beautiful twinkling lights started disappearing one by one and instead of the joy and excitement that you felt during the Holiday Season…suddenly you were hit with nothing more than a deep, lonely depression.
It wasn’t that Indy was feeling…depressed she just…
She just wished that time had stood still back when all of the lights were still out and people were at least pretending to be happy about their lives.
They had transitioned from the Holidays to simply…winter and she wasn’t happy about it.
Indy had been on the way to the grocery store, wanting to stock up on some chicken soup while it was on sale and beat out everyone else who would be wanting it when they all got sick from the cold weather.
When she heard a cat, however the girl blinked and glanced down, a small smile twitching onto her face.
Maybe the world wasn’t quite so awful.
Slowly she knelt down and held out her hand for the fluffy creature to sniff. “Aren’t you the cutest thing I’ve ever seen? What are you doing out here all alone, precious?” The cat was wearing little glasses and had a huge bow around it’s…(her?) neck. Clearly she couldn’t just be a stray. “Did you wander away from home? I’m sure your owner will be looking for you, cutie…”

Carmen tried not to chuckle aloud at Indy's sweet words. This one seemed good natured, which was nice. Still, cutesy kitty talk always made Carmen feel a little weird, because humans didn't talk to each other that way! Not that she was human or anything. Yet. The Mauvian lifestyle was complicated. Mewing in response and obliging Indy with a hand sniff, Carmen mulled over what the next step would be. She'd have to figure out how to lure this lady over to a more private space, because if anyone saw a henshin pen poof out of thin air (let alone the talking), there could be trouble. She hoped that this woman was willing to answer the call to adventure, so to speak. Now, Carmen got up and took a few steps away, meowing to get Indy's attention. Then she repeated the action: another few steps, a meow. Hopefully it looked deliberate enough to indicate beckoning without it being obvious to others that something weird was going on. After a few cycles of that, Carmen peeked out from behind an alley corner, looking to see if Indy followed. Awakenings couldn't exactly be done in public.

Indiana was thrilled when the cat sniffed her fingers and was just going to pet the adorable creature when she moved away. Perplexed, the girl followed, growing more and more confused the longer the cat led her…and honestly she wasn’t sure where she was going…but it seemed like an interesting adventure.
Finally, when the two were down some dark alley, Indy honestly wondered if she should have done this…perhaps this was some new way to do a mugging…and couldn’t cat’s be trained?
Perhaps she had just walked into a trap completely willingly and utterly stupidly.
“Um…It was really nice to meet you, kitty, but I think it might be time for me to head home now and…you know…not be here. It’s not that I don’t like you it’s just…if there’s something going on…I’m not really…”
And now she was talking to a cat.
…or to the robbers that lurked in the shadows.
Quietly, Indiana gulped, her eyes looking around wildly as she took a step backwards.

Carmen couldn't exactly blame the lady for being a bit unnerved by the situation. It wasn't every day that a cat showed up to lead you into some odd nook of the city. For better or for worse, "not every day" things were going to happen to her every day from now on. Starting right now, in fact. "Please, wait," Carmen said, using her human voice this time. "No one is here to hurt you. In fact, quite the opposite. You may learn something here that will allow you to protect yourself." She padded forward a few steps so the distance between her and Indiana was roughly the same as before. "My name is Carmen. And your name is?" She hoped that this one wouldn't refuse the "call." That always made things so difficult.

For a moment, Indy simply stared at the cat. And then with a startled laugh, she took a step backwards. Right onto a patch of ice, and with a small yelp, she landed hard on her butt, wincing in pain from the fall.
The cat talked.
There might be robbers.
And she was sure she had bruised her tailbone. “Ouch…I…My name is Indy. Indiana…what do you want? Why are you talking. What kind of magic nonsense is this?” It didn’t seem much like Christmas magic but…she supposed that part of herself was at least a little bit excited to see what was going to come of all of this.
“What do you want…Carmen…?” Her lips twitched, wanting to add on ‘Sandiego’, but she refrained for the moment. It wouldn’t do any good to insult the cat…maybe. For now.
“I hope whatever you may want is worth me falling flat on my butt, you know. So…” She began to get to her feet, mindful of the ice patch which had already been her downfall.

Despite herself, Carmen laughed, not at the slip, but at calling the situation "magic nonsense." Her timing really could have been better though. "Well, miss Indiana, you're right in calling this 'magic nonsense.' At this stage, there's no other way to describe it. But I can help you get a better understanding so that it's less nonsensical, and I'll make it worth the time and the bruise on your behind." Carmen came closer so that she could roll the eventual henshin pen to Indiana. "I think it's high time that you were better equipped to handle Destiny City's magic nonsense. Have you heard about the strange costumed gangs that go around, and about the high rates of missing people? You can do something about those, if you just stick around and let me, well, equip you." She wanted to go into more detail, but it had the potential to be dangerous information until the senshi potential was unlocked. Carmen paused, looking up and away as though she was searching for something. "Which one... ah, I think this should be the one." She moved her head back, then forward, and suddenly she was holding a pen-like gizmo in her mouth. She dropped it, and rolled it towards Indiana with a precise paw movement. "If you want to be equipped to thrive in this city, please pick up this pen and say these magic words: 'Angelica Power, Make-Up!'"

For a moment, Indiana was a little worried that the cat was having some sort of seizure, the way her head was twitching like that, but then like magic a pen appeared out of absolutely nowhere and rolled over towards her as the cat used her paw to bat at it, and suddenly everything else the cat had said had utterly vanished from her mind.
She picked up the pen, excitement fluttering through her at the very idea. The very…strange idea but…
But it couldn’t hurt anything, right?
“So…I just…” She held the pen gently. “I just say…Angelica Power, Make-up? Do I have—“
Indy broke off, her eyes growing wide as a warm tingling feeling enveloped her, and a bright glow overtook her body, leaving the normal Indiana Darby far behind, and introducing a new member to Destiny City’s Senshi team, Sailor Angelica.

Quietly she looked down at her new outfit and felt her face splitting into a huge grin. “What the hell! Would you look at me! I…look like some sort of reject skier! How cool is this!”

Carmen smiled in her cattish way, practically beaming at the successful awakening. "Welcome to the world of Senshi, Sailor Angelica. You have officially received the tools you'll need to protect yourself against the nefarious forces that permeate Destiny City. If you think about it, you should have an awareness of some magic of your own that you can use." At least, that's how she thought it went. Not being a senshi herself made things a little difficult in that respect. "And I rather like your uniform, or 'fuku' as we call it. It looks more comfortable than some I've seen. Comfort and mobility are pluses for senshi." "If you spot black-clad agents in mostly business attire, or senshi with ridiculously long hair and black holes in their chest and foreheads, those people are members of the Negaverse. Agents and Corrupt Senshi, specifically. If you see them harming others in any way, your goal is to stop them any way you can. They steal energy from Destiny City's people, but they can also rip out the cores of their being: their starseeds. Their souls, if you will. It's a terrible 'perk' unique to them. Every Negaverse agent you drive off prevents deaths and missing people. Defend yourself, defend others." Carmen knew she was beginning to lecture, but she couldn't help it. New senshi had so much information that they needed to know, and making sure people were well-informed was one of her personal missions. "There's one more thing..." This time, Carmen did a little tail-chasing spin, and what looked like a small phone popped into existence. She nudged it towards Angelica with one paw. "This is a senshi phone. You can scan cats and senshi to add them to your contacts and call them using this device. You can text them as well. There's also a 'senshi primer' on there that you'll find will give you some background and information on the world you have just entered." Carmen huffed, a little exhausted from all the babbling. "Any questions? I'm sure you have many after all that."

Angelica was still examining her change of clothes…or…what had the cat said? Fuku? Her fuku. It was cozy and she nodded, thoughtfully. “Well. That’s not ominous or anything. Watch out for the black clad and long haired folks or they’ll tug your soul from your body and all of your energy to boot…yikes.”
There was a small prickle of fear at the thought of it, and she rubbed her chest without really putting much thought into it. “Oh…wait what? I get a phone out of this? That’s awesome!”
Bending down, Sailor Angelica picked up the phone and began pressing buttons, eager to figure out how it worked, and eager to get started on…well. Just about everything.
“Questions? Oh…yeah I do have a bunch I guess…do you want to come back to my place and I can ask them when I think about them? I’ll get you something good for dinner, and we can talk about this…a bit more slowly and without the addition of more shiny objects to divert my attention?”
It was funny how quickly she had warmed to this strange—beautiful talking cat. But…she wasn’t going to knock the opportunity to get her questions answered…just not right now. She needed them answered when they popped up because right now her mind was far too full to formulate anything to ask.

"Yes, they're quite fearsome, but now you have a fighting chance against them," Carmen said, giving a gentle giggle as she saw Angelica's excitement about the senshi phone. "And yes, you do get a phone! You can only use it when powered up like this, though. Ultimately, that saves you more trouble than it causes, trust me. I don't think you'd want to explain some of the extra bits and bobs on your phone to others all the time." The offer of dinner made Carmen's eyes light up (figuratively, but the idea excited her so much that her eyes would have lit up literally if possible). "Oh, a dinner date? I would be delighted! We can absolutely discuss things more at your place. Just be sure to power down first. Think of releasing, of... reversion, and you'll be surprised how easily powering down comes." Her tail brushed against the ground in anticipation, both at the opportunity to give her lectures and the opportunity for food and shelter for a time. "Once you re-assume civilian form, we'll be ready to go."
