Ice and snow? Fine. Hail? Slightly less fine. Large, icicle-like shards of ice falling from the sky? Horrifying. For no apparent reason, Destiny City is plagued with another strange phenomenon, only this one can strike at any time. The icicles plummet from the sky with no warning, regardless of a clear or cloudy sky. The spikes range in size from a few inches up to two feet. Sometimes only one might fall, or sometimes a torrent of them, but they never fall far longer than a minute at a time. So far, injuries and damage have been reported across the city. How are you faring?
It had been a very unusual week in the city… Even for Destiny City. It was especially cold, more-so than usual. It all seemed to begin with the strange snowfall that seems to glisten like diamonds in the sky. And then, of course, the power went out- thankfully the clinic had a backup generator so she was able to keep up with work (and keep warm) throughout most of the ordeal. And then -- then there was the incredible lightshow that the sky decided to gift them with. It was, quite honestly, the most beautiful thing that Triss had ever seen and that was what had her out on a walk on a very cold evening.
The sun was just beginning to set in the park, it’s colors bouncing off of the bright white snow that had accumulated over the last few weeks. It was cold, but heck if it wasn’t a sight to see. As the darkness crept onward, Triss pulled thick gloves onto her hands and shrugged her scarf a little higher onto her face. Her face turned up to the sky and she stuck her tongue out to catch a snowflake on it, a grin spreading upon her lips. She waited, eagerly hoping to see the myriad of colors in the sky again… But it seemed that since the loud echo that she heard the other night, the colors had disappeared. She frowned slightly when she realized that they would not be appearing tonight, and continued on her walk through the winding paths of the park. The wind picked up, whipping her hair around her face and her scarf right off. She turned to try and grab it, but the wind had carried it away. Her legs began to move her along faster, until she was running after it floating away- eventually, cold and out of breath, she gave up.
She took a moment, hands on her knees, to catch her breath. She rubbed at her cold, tingly legs and eventually stood. Letting out a long breath, she watched the steam roll out from between her lips and up towards the dark night sky. Deciding that she should probably get home, she stuffed her hands into her coat pocket and began to walk back. Unfortunately, the snow turned to hail. And then something sliced down her cheek. Dark eyes glanced up to the sky with a wince as another … icicle? … dropped from the sky. Struggling to keep herself from slipping as she dodged the falling ice shard, Triss’ arms extended out and flailed not-so-gracefully. She sucked in a cold, painful breath to fill her lungs and just-barely balance herself. Another shard fell from the sky, and this time she couldn’t move fast enough and it may have penetrated had she not been wearing a thick winter coat. A few feathers spilled from the gash in her jacket, and deciding that she definitely did not want to be impaled any time soon, she began to run. Every once in a while she would slip and be forced to catch herself before falling, and again and again she would run.
There was a large crash and she stopped, sliding and turning to look behind her where an enormous icicle shard was impaled into a park bench.
“Oh.. My god.” The white-haired girl’s heart was racing and she was absolutely sure that this insane city would be the death of her.
Finally exiting the park, Triss shoved her way through the first storefront’s door that she could find to let this strange ice storm pass.
