Camelot left Merlinite in the care of his friend, Lysithea, after sending out a call for aid. He called for his son, Chaonis, to come to the library, as well. Not because they had any sort of bond together, but because he wanted to make sure Merlinite and Lysithea were safe, and trusted in his son's strength.

With him stationed outside in the alley, and Hadaya focusing on his power to dampen auras, Camelot felt safe leaving Merlinite with Lysithea while he went out.

Merlinite was in a lot of pain, despite taking an entire bottle of ibuprofin. As it turned out, it did not do much for his youma side, and the pain raged on. He was laying on his bed in the basement of the library, as comfortable as they could make him, though it was not great. He had bandages and gauze wrapped tightly around his midsection to stop the bleeding, and his wing was resting on a pillow of its own, also wrapped and clumsily patched up until a better option could be found.

He opened his eyes, grimacing, and looked at Lysithea, offering her a thin smile.

"Hey," he said, trying to sound casual and conversational. Like any other day. "How've you been?"

Lysithea hadn’t seen Merlinite in months. She had hoped that he had managed to find help, that he had found someone who could cure his half youma status, and the long time of not hearing from her friend only served to make her believe that such was the case…but when she heard of a hurt youma…from a knight…from Camelot no less…well, she was on the case, especially when she heard just who it was.

When she finally got a few minutes to be alone with the half dragon, she placed a hand against his cheek, sighing. “I’ve been okay. Busy. You’re a mess, my friend.”

She held her hands out, softly whispering the words which would invoke her super magic and gently touched the ethereal horn to the wound on the half youma’s chest. It couldn’t heal him all the way, she wasn’t that powerful…but it could help. It might even be the difference between life and death at this point.

“Who did this to you, honey?” She refused to call him by his name. By the filthy name that the Negaverse had bestowed upon him…he was more than that. He could be more than that…now she had the ability to help him become more than that. She had helped the other general, had she not? She and Cosmos had cured that half youma of her monster side and the chaos that infected her…and a new knight was born.

“It’s…good to see you, I really do wish the circumstances were better though…I’m sorry my magic isn’t more powerful, I can only do so much, but I’ll be back tomorrow, honey. Not that I’m leaving yet…but still. I’ll heal you up as much as I can. I promise.” Her hands were back on her face again, the soft silk of her gloves brushing lightly against his skin, smoothing the hair back from his forehead.

Merlinite closed his eyes as she attempted to heal him, taking slow, shallow breaths for a moment. He could feel the magic doing its best, but though massive spear injury was not going anywhere soon. He appreciated her efforts, though, as he knew very few other people who could do something like that, let alone want to.

Who would waste their time on a youma?

"It was Painite and... and Cavansite... they caught me off guard..." he said, after a moment where it seemed like he had fallen to sleep. Hadaya watched from his seat on a nearby shelf, broken and unusable in the library proper but good enough for Merlinite and his basement home.

"Hey, your magic is awesome. They just... happen to be really good... at stabbing." And ruining wings. He doubted he would ever be able to flex his wing again, now that it had been torn so badly. It was just a mangled limb. "Maybe you shouldn't waste your energy, though."

He looked at her sadly, shaking his head slowly and lifting a shaking claw to carefully cover the hand touching his face.

"I mean. They're just going to keep coming... they'll come after you."

Painite. That b***h. The one who had done this to him. And…and Cavansite…Sanidine had mentioned her…she had been bothering Evan…had been the reason that Sanidine had tried to…

Well.

When the claw covered her hand, Lysithea leaned down and placed a gentle kiss on it. “Don’t be a goofball. You know that I will always come to help you…and now that I know where you’ve been hiding…I’ll be able to come more often.” She hesitated for a moment. “I can help you now, you know. I…you know that I was researching on how to heal youma…I can do it now. I have a group…and we’ve helped several youma…and a half youma general as well…honey, we can finally help you, if it’s still what you want, of course.”

She figured that it would be. It had been what he had wanted for ages…he had never wanted to be warped like this…turned into a half monster…he had wanted to become a knight…and now there was the perfect chance to do so.

“When you’re healed up a little more…we’ll get together and do it, if you want. I’ll talk to my friends, and…and…” She paused, thinking something through. “I think…we’ll need Camelot too. I’ve only ever worked with Cosmos to help the youma, but Camelot has the same type of power, doesn’t he…we can help you together, and you’ll finally be where you belong. And you and I can be friends outside of all of this.”

Her face was shining with excitement and her thumb hooked around the claw that was covering her hand, gently stroking it. “You’ll be free.”

Merlinite listened, looking confused at first. He at least had his eyes open, though, and even lifted his head a bit to get a better view of her as she spoke. He almost forgot that the quest to purify was a real one: he all but accepted that he would be stuck this way, and had taken to helping white moon soldiers as best he could in this form.

He still hated the threat the youma side of him held, but it had been working... mostly. Until they found him, anyway, and now they knew what to look for. If he could purify, not only would he reach a dream he held dear to his heart, or starseed, but he would be able to completely escape the eyes of the negaverse.

All ties, all the chaos inside him that acted like vile chains, would be severed.

For a moment he wondered how she'd been able to help a lot of others, but he never knew that there was a way to do it now. But the thoughts were chased from his head as the offer stood in front of him now.

"Yeah, I want to do that... Camelot said he would help, and I know... I know he will. If I survive this... yeah, I want to be a good guy now..." he smirked a bit, looking tired but happier, "even if I lose... my sweet tail."

Lysithea’s eyes lit up as he agreed. She knew he was going to. She knew this had been what he had wanted but to hear him agree…it utterly warmed her heart. “Of course he’ll help. He’s been helping you all this time, and don’t you dare talk like that. Of course you’ll survive this. I’m here. I’ll keep healing you. I’ll come back each day until you’re healed. You’re not going to die. I will never let that happen. You know that.”

She let her fingers trail down his cheek and leaned forward, placing a gentle kiss on his forehead. “You know me.”

It was a true statement. He had been the original cause of her fervor to save youma…he would have remained the cause if she hadn’t lost track of him…and if…if Evan hadn’t happened.

Regardless, Merlinite had always been in the back of her mind, even in the months since she had seen him…

“I promised that I would save you. I will always save you. You’re a dear and precious friend to me, and you’re safe now. I won’t let you die. Camelot won’t let you die…so you’re not going to die, and you will be a knight. Soon. I’m sure of it.”

Merlinite chuckled, trying to imagine himself as a knight.

"Will that mean I'll be human again?" he asked, confused. He had been without a real life for so long now, he wasn't sure how he would be able to adjust to it. Maybe it was silly to start thinking about it now, when he was so close to death, but he had nothing better going on. It was nice to think about something positive, anyway, and not about the hole in his body or the rip in his wing.

He would have to get a job. He could do normal things like walk outside in the day time, and go to restaurants to get food. He could talk to people without them running away or attacking him immediately. He could help, really help, when the White Moon needed it. Hell, he could date and make friends and use a phone again.

Claws were bad for tiny buttons.

"Will I remember you? Everything that's happened? What if my starseed is too damaged... I could be dusted. Or you guys. Is it dangerous for you? For Camelot?"

He spoke slowly, between labored breaths, but he was too curious and worked up to care about how tired he was, or how much he hurt, right now. Camelot would be back soon with supplies, anyway.

“Shhh” Lysithea’s voice was soft, comforting. “You will be human again, yes. Your starseed isn’t too damaged. If it was, do you really think you would be holding onto yourself so tightly? If it was damaged so badly, you would have fallen completely to chaos.”

She finally withdrew her hand from the half youma’s cheek and drew the blanket up over him, mindful of his wing. “Now, what I want you to do right now, is rest. I can stay with you if you’d like, or I can head home and rest up my magic and be here bright and early tomorrow for you? I can stay until you fall asleep, if you would like me too…perhaps I could tell you the story of when my friends and I first saved a youma…”

Lysithea’s hands were back a moment later, one stroking his cheek, the horns around his face, his hair. Everything they could provide comfort to, while the other one slipped itself into one of Merlinite’s claws, holding onto it gently. “I would do anything to help you be comfortable, but you need to try to stay calm, you are still hurt a lot, so you have to focus on healing your body before we can heal you of the chaos, okay honey?”

She leaned down again, placing another kiss on his forehead, letting her lips linger there for a few moments, wishing that she had more magic to use. Wishing that she knew another senshi who could heal…because for all of her words, she was worried that he wouldn’t last the night.

Merlinite watched her, trying to smile but not finding the strength to. He was more than a little worried, but there were so many things to worry about. The chaos in his starseed, for one, and forgetting who he was or what he was fighting for. But there was more to it, too, that he was afraid of.

"I just don't want to go back... to being the person I was before I met you... and Camelot, and all of this... The guy that jumped at the chance to be a bad guy... I could mess up again..."

He carefully closed his claw around Lysithea's hand, though it seemed very frail and tiny by comparison.

Her soothing words and the kiss to his forehead helped him, though, and he closed his eyes. Taking a deep breath, he relaxed a bit into the bed, feeling the pressure of Camelot's aura at some distance, but coming closer. He'd be there soon enough, though he was still a bit off. Merlinite felt very tired, and lacked the strength to open his eyes again.

"You should go rest..." he murmured sleepily. "I'll see you in the morning..."

Maybe.

“There’s no way you’d mess up again. You have friends now. People who care about you. Could you imagine me or Camelot ever giving up on you? Ever?” The question held some amusement, but Lysithea seemed pleased that he looked as though he was finally going to get some sleep.

“I will see you in the morning, my friend. I promise it. Sweet dreams, you’ll be a knight in shining armor soon enough.”

She remained there until she was quite sure he was finally sleeping, and then quietly saw herself out, tired and upset by the whole affair.

She hated when her friends got hurt…and she would return the next day and continue to do her best to erase the wounds that monsters caused…

Her best had to be good enough.

Her best would be good enough.

If anyone in this city was worth saving...it was Merlinite.
