Quote: With each passing year, you accumulate more stuff. Your new holiday gifts have been put out, but now is the perfect time to make some extra space and purge your old belongings. Donation centers are bustling but there’s never a bad time to give to the needy. Going through your belongings, you may find any number of things. Something you thought was lost? Or just a bad case of nostalgia? Now is a good time to reflect on what is important to you—and maybe actually find some things you can part with.

Since moving back to Destiny City after finishing college Marlin had found himself managing to accumulate stuff and, whilst he knew that he really ought to go through it all, it was a task that he had found himself continually putting off–
But with Christmas now over and the days starting their final countdown to the new year he figured that it was time to finally go through everything and sort out some things to donate to the nearby donation centre, because it would be nice to start 2018 with a bit of extra space - that and a clear out really was years in coming given that he had been back in the city since he moved back at the age of 22 and whilst he had unpacked the necessities, there was still a fair amount of stuff that had been unneeded and thus had remained unpacked.
And so he had made up a hot chocolate and grabbed a plate of sandwiches before settling to tackle the first box which had turned out to contain some old cds and had sipped at the chocolate as he worked on carefully sorting them into piles.
Then he had found a box full of his old course books and had worked on sorting through those too, only to find that there were in fact three boxes full of books.
They hadn't all actually been course books as it turned out, the books in the other two boxes more of an assortment - like the 'basic' cookery books that had turned to be anything but and the cookbook that had had an elaborate section dedicated to boiling eggs for some reason.
Marlin sorted through them absently, the two cook books in question placed on the top of the pile for donation because in all honesty he was never going to use them and was in the process of sorting through the rest when one of the books caught his eye–
It was his college yearbook, something that he thought lost because he had searched for it a few years back and had been unable to find it.
It was something of a whim for him to sit back and leaf through it, a half smile on his lips as he looked through the student life section and the different clubs and then winced as he read the basketball recap - because that had been the year that the college team had had an exceptionally bad year in their games.
There had been the student photos too and he found himself wincing again slightly as he had no idea what had possessed him to think that the hair style his younger self was spouting was even remotely a good idea.
He wasn't sure how long he'd spend flicking back and forth through the pages, but the mug that had contained hot chocolate was empty and the sandwiches mostly eaten by the time that Marlin finally set it aside, because fun as it had been to take a trip back through memory lane, he still had other boxes that needed to be looked at and sorted through - and it was late in the evening when he had finally finished sorting though the boxes - and whilst he hadn't managed to get to all of them, Marlin had at least tackled most of them–
And had a tidy amount of stuff all ready to donate that had come out of his impromptu winter spring clean.
