Ice and snow? Fine. Hail? Slightly less fine. Large, icicle-like shards of ice falling from the sky? Horrifying. For no apparent reason, Destiny City is plagued with another strange phenomenon, only this one can strike at any time. The icicles plummet from the sky with no warning, regardless of a clear or cloudy sky. The spikes range in size from a few inches up to two feet. Sometimes only one might fall, or sometimes a torrent of them, but they never fall far longer than a minute at a time. So far, injuries and damage have been reported across the city. How are you faring?

The cold was utterly abysmal. The fact that it had started to snow again Made Andalusite seriously consider packing himself and Evan up and moving to somewhere warmer. Like Florida. Even if there were legitimate crazies in Florida, at least it was warm. And right now the idea of a place being warm…was a wonderful idea indeed.

There was another lieutenant nearby, he could feel that much, but right now…he was far too cold to be bothered with anything or anyone. If he could just keep moving, if he could get close enough to home so he could power down and just…warm up a little, that would be the best thing in the world.

Andalusite’s head was bent against the wind and his arms were crossed in front of his chest, his breath coming out in bright white puffs as he continued walking…or at least until three things happened at once. First, something hit him on the top of his head, and second, something hit him in the back of the head…and third, whatever that second object was, it slid neatly down the back of his shirt and it was cold. A ******** piece of ice. That had to have been what it was.

With a snarl, the lieutenant spun around, fully expecting to see some stupid, foolish child or something standing there…but the only person in his vision was someone he knew…quite well.

The ******** a*****e he had tried to kill on that strange pathway. “You.” His voice was quiet, anger threading though it. Swiftly, the boomerang which served as his weapon was out and hurling through the air towards his greatest enemy. “You think you can throw ice down my shirt? a*****e?”

The two lieutenants, despite their differences, had similar intentions that night. Amesite was on his way home, eager to be out of the chill. Screw the Negaverse, their quotas, their everythingnothing was worth being out in this weather. He’d risk Cavansite’s, and any other General’s, wrath just to get out of it.

He was aware of another lieutenant, but he hadn’t had any intention of interacting with them. Their paths simply came close to one another. Amesite didn’t even realize how close until he was being yelled at.

He turned to face the voice, expression a mixture of confused and agitated—more so when he realized that he knew who it was.

That a*****e.

And then the boomerang hit him in the chest.

Pain exploded and the breath was knocked from him; he looked stunned and coughed violently.

“Excuse me?” he demanded when he could breathe again; his hands had been tucked underneath his armpits as he tried to conserve what little heat he had. Now, they were balled at his side. He hadn’t thrown anything—but if he’d known it was Tobias he was so close to, he might have. As it was, though, the boomerang was completely uncalled for.

“Are you insane?”

That little s**t.

Amesite reached to rub at his sore chest and glowered at the lieutenant. “I didn’t throw anything at you. What the hell?”

When the boomerang actually hit the mark, Andalusite could have jumped in the air for joy, he didn’t though. Not tonight. Not…not while this other a*****e was still there. “You didn’t throw anything at me? Then how did I manage to get some ice down my shirt? Was it a ghost who put it there?” The sneer on his face was as mocking as he could make it, and his hands curled into fists to match the other lieutenants.

He was calling him insane. For retaliating about having ice thrown down the back of his shirt. Yeah because that made perfect sense. “I’m not ******** insane, you’re just made because I beat you the last time we fought.”

It was almost the truth. Sort of. Depending on how you looked at it, it could very well be almost the truth. “So. Are you going to apologize or do I have to come over there and make you apologize. Because I’m not above doing that, and I think we both know that.”

It was Amesite’s turn to sneer. “You didn’t beat me, you arrogant little p***k. I don’t owe you any apology, but thanks for reminding me that I owe you one a** kicking already. So now you’re up to two.”

He cracked his neck and rolled his shoulders.

God, he wanted to bash his brother’s face in. Accusing him of throwing ice—what a piss poor excuse to attack him. There wasn’t any ice or snow on his hands but of course Tobias was too much of a brat to consider that maybe he’d done this to himself. Maybe he’d walked under a tree and had a little snow fall on him or something; Amesite didn’t know.

At this point, he didn’t care; he just wanted to knock Tobias once or twice and then head home and worry about his stupid brother sometime when it wasn’t freezing.

He stalked towards Andalusite, hands balled into fists and anger burning in his eyes.

Andalusite snorted and cracked his own neck, beginning the trek over to his fellow lieutenant. Comrades in arms. Like hell they were comrades in arms. What a ******** joke. As he was walking, he spat onto the ground, a show of intimidation that he didn’t think would be missed.
“You owe me an a** kicking? Not if I run your ******** face into the ground first, buddy. Now, let’s end this—what the ********!”

Jumping backwards, the lieutenant barely made it out of the way in time as a giant icicle fell to the ground with a sickening, splintering crash. It had to have been four feet long and as Andalusite stared in utter confusion and horror, another fell, and another. And soon it was like some bad horror movie…or bad dream where you couldn’t get away from the falling debris.

Huh. Maybe Amesite hadn’t been the one to throw the ice down his back.
Swerving once again to get out of the way of the massive chunks of ice, Andalusite saw that where the a*****e was now…one of those things might just land smack dab on his head…and…well.

He ran with all the speed he could, tackling the other lieutenant to the ground and pulling him to the relative safety of a large evergreen. “Watch out for falling ice. a*****e.”

Pushing Amesite out of the way might have been Andalusite’s way of apologizing for attacking him when he hadn’t done anything to deserve it (this time) but Amesite wasn’t in any mood to thank him. Instead, he grunted and pushed Andalusite off of him.

“I told you I didn’t throw it,” he muttered, watching as another spike of ice hurled to the ground.

He’d heard rumors of ice falling from the sky and causing damage, but he’d assumed that the stories about large spikes falling was just some embellished story to sell papers. Not that Destiny City needed fictional stories, what with all the natural oddities that were occurring.

He pushed himself into a seated position and seemed like he was ready to stand up; it wasn’t safe around here, even under the evergreen.

More hail was falling and the branches above them would only save them for so long. There was a crunching noise and snow fell around the two lieutenants as the leaves hit the branches and shook the snow out.

“We need to get out of here, this ice isn’t letting up. You and me will pick this up later, but I’m not going to enjoy hitting you if you’ve already been skewered to death by this ice.”

Nodding slightly, Andalusite hesitated. “I guess you didn’t throw it. I apologize. This time. But. Next time, all bets are off. Now, hurry up before we both get impaled.”

There was a nasty cracking sound from the tree above them, and not for the first time did Andalusite wish that he had the teleporting ability that was supposed to come with experience in the Negaverse…it was something he would have to really work towards.

Quick as he could, the lieutenant bolted out from under the tree, weaving in and out of the falling ice, not stopping until there were no more crashing sounds, and he knew he was safe.

Though now all he wanted to do was curl up with Evan and have a strong drink. Winter sucked a**.
