Prompt:

Quote:
The New Year is nearly upon you; all around town, people are buzzing with excitement. Sales are aplenty and among some of the better deals is a popular new brand of champagne. The drink’s been getting a lot of attention and very good reviews; it boasts a guarantee for a magical evening. It’s a promise that holds true—sort of. Anyone who imbibes the champagne will be extremely in tune to their more romantic feelings. They may feel more open, more daring, or more flirtatious towards the object of their affections. Or, maybe a glass of it is enough to make them realize they have feelings for someone…Either way, after ingesting the champagne, romance is all you can think about. The effects last for only a few hours, so you’d better use that time well. The bottles are out of stock quickly, so you are lucky to have gotten your hands on one. Lucky, unless you made a fool of yourself in your romantic haze…

Luca was feeling very adventurous this New Year's. She really wanted to try some celebratory drinking, just for funsies. Yes, she was one year shy of legally able to drink, but who cared? That barely stopped anyone half the time, especially if they were in college. She heard there was some sort of distribution of champagne going on, and she wanted to investigate. There had to be some way she could lift a sample without setting off any warning bells (literally or figuratively)!

Well, some escapades with abusing powered glamour later, Luca had claimed a bottle of the so-called magical champagne. A magical evening, huh? Her evenings were magical on their own, but it would be interesting to see what these people deemed magic. Though she didn't go through a lot of it, relatively speaking, she downed it pretty quickly, and soon she was giggly and buzzed and totally ready to go party. It was probably her fault for sneaking off to her henshin alley and thus drinking alone, but she could worry about it later. Right now, there were pretty ladies (and gentlemen) to dance with!

As she sauntered down the sidewalk, a loopy grin on her face, she thought she saw a radiant pair of eyes catch the light. One girl somewhere in the streets, but she was very sure that this lady boasted a beautiful pair of blue and green eyes. Not blue, not green, blue to green! Fascinating! She wanted to find the bearer of those eyes. And dance with her. It was important.

So, she began to walk behind the pace of the other girl. "Excuse me," she said, a slight lilt to her voice. She hoped that would catch her attention.

Indy liked the Holiday season as much as the next guy, but she had to admit that the week between Christmas and New Years was the most pointless week in the world. You never could tell if you were supposed to still be Christmas-y, or it was time to rip down the decorations…It didn’t make much sense and it really helped to contribute to the Holiday Blues, at least she felt that it did.

Of course it did though. It was the fact that the happiest time of the year was at an end, and suddenly you were less than sub-par if you didn’t have someone romantic to spend the last night of the old year with…it was stupid.
With a sigh, the girl dug her hands deeper into her pockets, shoulders slumping slightly. At least…until there was a voice. Glancing over, Indy saw a pretty redheaded someone looking at her. Raising a brow, she couldn’t help the slight smile that graced her face and the laugh that made its way past her lips at the tone of her voice. “Yes? Can I help you with something?”

Maybe the girl just wanted her out of the way, that would make more sense than anything else…

A lot more sense than someone concerned. There was no reason to even start to think of something as dumb as that.

Perhaps that was the worst part of this week. You went from everyone talking of spreading love and joy to just…utter desolation. It was too much of a jump.

Oh, how cute! The smile and laugh that followed made Luca do the same. "Can you help me? Hmmmm." The thinking noise was very pronounced. "I guess you can. You should... dance with me, pretty lady!" Grinning like a fool, she held a hand out to Indy. "Er, may I have this dance?" Maybe that kind of charm worked better for this fine lady. Honestly, the first round was part drunk slip-up, part attempt to imitate Puffy the Puffski. He sometimes spoke like that. She stood there, holding her hand out, hoping that this lady would be willing to roll with the punches.

Indiana’s eyebrows shot up to the point where they were lost under the hood she had pulled up to keep the cold out of her ears, and the expression she wore was a mixture of amusement and confusion. This…stranger was asking her to dance…was she drunk? Perhaps…

That would explain the strange behavior…but it was a little unseemly to be this intoxicated in the middle of the day like this…she could have at least waited until it was dark.

“You want…to dance with me? Right here and right now? May I ask why? There’s no music…and it’s rather cold out, don’t you think?”

It wasn’t a no, but until Indy could figure out if this was just a joke…or someone trying to play a not so nice prank on her, targeting a bigger girl right at one of the worst parts of the year…especially someone so pretty…if it was a prank…she didn’t want to end up getting hurt from it. That was the absolute last thing she needed.

Luca pouted a little. "Does there need to be a why? I'm in the mood to dance with a pretty lady like you." She held a hand up. "Come on, just one twirl? Please? Please? Pretty please?" There was something almost pleading in the subsequent smile that spread across Luca's face. "I mean, if you want to go somewhere were we can dance or that has music or something, I would gladly come with, but... hmm." At that point, she lowered her hand, pulled out her phone, and began swiping through her music. "The no music thing can be fixed. Easy peasy."

Indy watched the girl, still quite convinced that she was drunk, for there was no other real explanation for such behavior. But…she seemed earnest, and the pout that she was giving caused a sigh to bubble up from Indiana and finally she just nodded. “Fine…if you can get some music going, I’ll dance with you.”

She had nothing to lose, not really…but…

“I have to warn you, I’m not any type of dancer, so just…just know that, okay?” Indiana rubbed the bridge of her nose, and adjusted the hat on her head,

She would try though. Just one twirl. It couldn’t be that terrible…if it was a joke, then she only had that one twirl to make a fool of herself…and if worst came to worst…she could just run. Get out of there before she was too humiliated. Not that she was very fast…but still.

She could run if she had to.

"Don't worry, me neither!" Luca really had no dance skills to speak of. She could mimic the tango, maybe, but she didn't care about the particulars at this time. As she browsed, she realized she had forgotten something. "By the way, I'm Luca. Nice to meet you!" Eventually, she finally found a song, tapped it, and turned the volume on her phone all the way up before setting it on the ground (it was a miracle she didn't fall over).

Starships were meant to fly
Hands up and touch the sky
Let's do this one more time
Can't stop, 'cause we're so high

Grinning like the most foolish fool, she held her hand up one more time, inviting Indy for the twirl. For a moment, she thought she felt eyes on her, but she didn't care. There was no such thing as common sense in Destiny City, sometimes.

Of all the songs that Indy had expected…this was not one of them. This wasn’t…this wasn’t really a dancing song. This was one of those songs that you’d expect in a sparsely lit club with a bunch of…Well.

This girl had…strange tastes.

“I’m Indy, it’s a pleasure.” She reached her hand out and clasped Luca’s giving in and doing the twirl that the other girl seemed to desire above all other things. It was kind of fun. Still a little strange…but kind of fun. “All right. I’ve done my spin…is that all you wanted, Luca? Because I have to say, this has been one of the strangest requests I’ve ever gotten, and I’m not unhappy to tell you that…but…”

She leaned in close, making sure nobody could hear her next words apart from Luca. “Are you drunk?”

"Um, well..." Luca's smile wobbled a bit, sheepishly. "Yeah. I am," she whispered back. "There was this champagne on sale, and I kind of wanted to try it, so I did some fiddly things and... yeah." She looked away and sighed, lowering her twirling hand. "Sorry for the booze breath." Somewhat precariously, she reached down and picked up her phone, pausing the music. "Thank you for humoring me. I just... I dunno, I looked at you and I just had to dance with you a little." She looked off to the other side, a little guilty. "Sorry for shaking up your day, I guess. You can now return to your regularly scheduled programming." Even as she was turned away, her eyes were facing Indy. She felt compelled to stare into the woman's eyes, particularly where the green met the blue. She had charm, and she was willing to put up with assorted weirdness. That was a good sign. It made Luca feel reluctant to step away first.

The answer made Indiana laugh and she shook her head. At least the girl was honest. She hesitated for a moment and plucked the phone out of the redhead’s hands, fiddled with it for a moment and handed it back, a text window opened, her own number typed in with a message.

“Just…just in case you wanted to text me so we could dance again, Luca. I think I might like that. Only, maybe we could do it a bit more proper? And do dinner along with the dancing?” She was feeling so bold with her words, and for a moment she was half wondering if some of the ‘booze breath’ was affecting her as well.

Oh well.

New Year, New Indy. Maybe she was just going for a much bolder stance on things…that wouldn’t be such a bad thing, would it?

Grinning once more, Indiana turned away and took a few steps away from Luca, before giving a little wave. “I better hear from you soon, or I’ll be quite upset, so…don’t forget about this when you sober up, okay?”

She turned the corner after that and was out of sight. What a strange thing to happen…though…maybe it wouldn’t be so bad, if things turned out well…stranger things could have happened.

"Oh!" Luca's face flushed a little out of embarrassment when Indy yanked the phone out out of her hands. When she saw the number there, her smile softened. "Th-thank you," she said, surprised that the lady had actually decided that she wanted to see her again. "Yes, I would love that! I have a bunch of dresses that I haven't gotten to wear in a long time, and if we went somewhere fancy... well, I mean, it doesn't have to be fancy, but that's an option!"

"Don't worry, I won't forget you in the morning," Luca said with a giggle. "Expect texts! Lots of them. At the very least, I'm going to say hello and how are you doing." She waved back at Indy, taking a few parting steps herself. "I'll be seeing you!" With that, she started the wandering trip back to her house.
