Quote:
Ice and snow? Fine. Hail? Slightly less fine. Large, icicle-like shards of ice falling from the sky? Horrifying. For no apparent reason, Destiny City is plagued with another strange phenomenon, only this one can strike at any time. The icicles plummet from the sky with no warning, regardless of a clear or cloudy sky. The spikes range in size from a few inches up to two feet. Sometimes only one might fall, or sometimes a torrent of them, but they never fall far longer than a minute at a time. So far, injuries and damage have been reported across the city. How are you faring?

Whilst Saffron couldn't say that she particularly liked ice or snow, it wasn't something that she couldn't handle - and it wasn't as if she wasn't used to it given that she lived in Destiny City and it always snowed here in winter and not the sorry excuse for snow that she remembered vaguely from back when she lived in the UK that somehow managed to bring everything to a standstill amidst the excuse of it somehow being the 'wrong type of snow'

No when it snowed here here it snowed proper snow - white Christmas-style snow–

And whilst Saffron could take or leave snow, she did like white Christmases,

It wasn't snowing though, it wasn't even hailing - which she did dislike but could handle all the same - instead what appeared to be shards of icicles had decided to pick today to come hurtling down from the sky–

And she had the misfortune of being caught out in it.

She had been out on a walk, because the sky had been clear and because she wanted to try and work off some of the cake indulgences that had been the result of several different Christmas parties happening around the same time.

She hadn't counted on the dog-like monster with far too many teeth that had chased after her as she cut across the alleyway behind a row of shops, but had found herself turning into–

In fact she wasn't sure what she was supposed to be like this or why her mind kept trying to insist that she was Iðavöllr - but the lantern-like Christmas ornament that came with it wasn't exactly going to do her much good against something with claws and far too many teeth and so she had done what to her seemed to be the sensible thing and ran as the creature had howled and chased after her - because unlike the last time a monster had attacked her there was no strange man there to rescue her.

Well make that the time before last, if you counted the overly large spiders at Halloween - although she was trying to forget Halloween, because that was when she had somehow become this, this whatever this was supposed to be,

Iðavöllr her mind helpfully supplied. Iðavöllr of Polaris, but she had ignored it and continued to run–

And she hadn't noticed the way that the skies had started to darken, too caught up in trying to put as much distance as she could between herself and the dog-like monster before going somewhere where she could go back to being Saffron, without her mind that tried to insist that she was this Iðavöllr person - something that only seemed to happen when she was dressed in this weird get up that looked like it wouldn't be out of place in Frozen's Arendelle.

A suddenly strange howl from somewhere behind her had her finally risking a glance backwards in time to see a jagged shard of what had to be the biggest icicle she had ever seen drop out of the sky and hit the monster that had been chasing her turning it into dust–

And she realised that she had bigger problems as she finally looked up and noticed that not only had the pleasant skies from earlier darkened ominously, but more of the icicle-like shards were falling - and she was outside without cover–

Which was how Iðavöllr came to find herself once again running in the hopes of managing to get herself to some sort of cover as the icicle-like shards continued to come down around her.

Anxo adored snow in every sense of the word. He loved the way it felt when it started to melt in his hand, and he loved the little snowflakes that would catch on his gloves and clothes when it fell. He loved the way it made his cheeks rosy, and he adored the way it crunched beneath his feet as he walked down the sidewalk that had yet to be salted to shoveled. He adored the way it seemed to silence everything, and he loved the way he felt as if he could think just a little more clearly while it fell around him.

It was for that reason why he was out and about this evening, happily crunchy his way to see Arian. They didn't exactly have plans, nor did he have a real reason to be out in this cold cold weather, but there was nothing wrong at all with wanting to surprise the other, right? Maybe he should stop at a florist to get some flowers as well... Did Arian actually like flowers? That, he didn't actually know, but it was the thought that counted, right? ... He knew exactly what Arian DID love, and that was sweets, yet Anxo hesitated getting them too often, for fear of encouraging way to unhealthy eating habits. Maybe he could pick out a nice hot takeout place for dinner instead. Something filling and something where he wouldn't feel too guilty about having seconds or even thirds!

While his mind wandered about a bit, he hardly noticed the louder thunks of ice icicles around him. It wasn't until he actually heard a strange howl that he snapped out of his daze of gushy thoughts. It must have been a youma... Nothing sounded quite like they did; a layer of gravelly, almost metallicy hiss was always laced with what sound they made, and this one seemed no different.

And yet, the moment he tried to power up, to take care of it, he felt that awful slicing sting of an icicle hit him right against his forearm, and he stumbled back onto the ground with his own hiss. It took him down for a moment, but as soon as he could he scrambled back to his feet, narrowly missing a third and a fourth shard of ice from hitting him in the gut.

The youma would have to wait, it was far more important to find a safe place to power up rather than just risk out outright, so he ran.

And run he did, up until he found a proper overhanging ledge of a gazebo. And it seemed he wasn't alone in the running, as there was another young woman out and about, running frantically to get out of the ice icicles that seemed to be falling more and more frequently.

Cupping his hands to his mouth, Anxo shouted over the falling ice, hoping that it would carry just enough so that he could be heard. Hopefully she could hear him and retreat over to the safety of his little haven "HEY! OVER HERE! THIS WAY!"
