Prompt:

Quote:
Ice and snow? Fine. Hail? Slightly less fine. Large, icicle-like shards of ice falling from the sky? Horrifying. For no apparent reason, Destiny City is plagued with another strange phenomenon, only this one can strike at any time. The icicles plummet from the sky with no warning, regardless of a clear or cloudy sky. The spikes range in size from a few inches up to two feet. Sometimes only one might fall, or sometimes a torrent of them, but they never fall far longer than a minute at a time. So far, injuries and damage have been reported across the city. How are you faring?

Lieutenant Paracelsian found himself deeply relieved by the fact that his uniform was fairly covered. While his jacket wasn't super thick, it gave him a little more protection from the cold than some others' uniforms did, so that was nice. The gloves were a good perk too. Well, frigid weather or not, the energy gathering quota still remained, so he was going to be diligent and do his duty.

As he plodded down the cold streets, he felt a flicker of light in the distance. Some sort of basic senshi was around. It merited investigation. Focusing to see if the light went towards him or away as he walked, he approached the supposed senshi, his hands clenching and unclenching.

"Patrolling" was still not something Nix ever did, but as he spent most nights practicing and experimenting, he was gradually feeling more confident about being some kind of tiny--perhaps slightly weak--super hero.

So as he was running along to have a perhaps somewhat short practice session when he noticed a...dark sort of aura rather near his path, he decided to adjust direction slightly to have a look. He didn't think he could take on most of them, but...if his presence stopped something bad from happening, then that would be a good thing.

So it was that he came upon...a negaverse agent? He wasn't hiding, in fact looking in his direction. Looked like some kind of, uh, evil dentist? Clearly not that crazy leprechaun looking girl--probably for the best, even if Nix still wanted to punch her face in.

Punching this guy's face in was a possibility as well, and he was tempted...but charging into battle without any knowledge of who he was facing seemed like an impressively bad idea, so he instead approached and put on a brave face. "I don't know who you are," he said--his voice was young, like a typical teenager, really, so being threatening was hard, but he could try. "But I can't let you hurt people!"

It seemed like a reasonable assumption, at least. He didn't really know what the negaverser was doing, but were they ever not doing nasty things? Hard to say...

Ah, the senshi had decided to deliver the opening volley. Fortunately, it was a volley of words and not of punches or magic. A cool "Hmm" escaped Paracelsian as he mulled over a response. "I don't know what they've been telling you, but at the very least, I am not in the business of hurting people." It was mostly honest, wasn't it? He rarely ever attacked first, and he had never ripped a starseed. All he did for the most part was drain energy, and half the time he asked first. If this guy was looking for a big target, he hadn't found one. "So, I suppose it's not worth it to ask if you're willing to donate? Most of the time, I ask, collect some energy, and then go on my way."

Nix hesitated a brief moment. He was pretty sure this guy wasn't too strong to fight--he wasn't sporting some big dangerous weapon and the aura wasn't that scary. But what he said was odd. "Donate?" he echoed, thinking about what he'd been told and read. "Uhm...energy? Why would I do something like that?" He shook his head.

"No way! I'm not helping the Negaverse." He declared, hiding his general confusion. Asking to donate? How odd... Either way, he put himself in a fighting stance, and got ready to have an actual fight...Although he still hesitated in actually striking first. Striking first on a youma was easy. It was some strange monster. But this...was a person. A probably bad person, he was sure, but still a person.

Paracelsian shrugged. "It saves me the trouble of having to swindle civilians out of their energy. I met one senshi that that was good enough for, but I suppose that's not enough for you?" When Nix assumed his fighting stance, Para stared him down, tensing up and getting ready to react, but not in full stance himself. "So, what are you going to do? I suppose we could exchange a few blows, and we could both claim we've done our jobs. Or I could just take your energy and we could go on our ways. It's up to you." This senshi seemed to be the trigger happy sort, full of some conception of justice. On a philosophical level, Para wondered if justice and peace weren't quite compatible. There was no time to make such lofty proclamations now, of course, but the thought was there.

So they didn't actually need to kill people...That was good to know. All the same, this 'energy gathering' stuff they did couldn't be for a nice reason, so...

"Definitely not good enough!" he growled out, and leapt forward as only a powered person could, intent on slamming one of his green-gloved fists into the agent—not that he actually expected it to work, but it was time to get stuff moving!

After he started moving, he thought he heard some kind of smash sound off to his right, but he didn’t have time to investigate that just yet. It was probably nothing, anyway. That thought never bites you in the butt, naturally.

Paracelsian's attempts to get ready to fight weren't enough. When the other senshi lunged forward, he took the body blow full on, barely able to get a word out. He clutched his chest and caught his breath before lunging towards Nix with a growl. He was aiming for another body blow in return, but who knew if he'd be able to hit with a damn. Behind him, he thought he felt something fall and hit the ground, but he knew that looking behind him would spell disaster. Whatever it was was going to have to wait. His focus had to be on the fight right now.

He landed his hit! That was almost a victory in itself, and get him an extra rush of adrenaline, but really, all it accomplished was to make sure his foe would actually fight him...And there it came! Nix twisted to the side to avoid the hit, and was actually somewhat successful, feeling the hit graze across his side.

Something distracted him at that moment, though, as he was sure something just smashed into the ground behind the agent. And another! He shook his head, maybe it was some kind of trick of the Negaverse...

He jumped to the side, twisting again to face toward the agent, and then lunged forward...a magical tongue shooting out in the direction of Para, with the senshi himself following shortly behind it...although those shards falling from the sky were getting pretty hard to ignore.

Sailor Scout Attack: Tongue Bash
Nix rocks forward, opens his mouth, and creates a large ethereal frog tongue which shoots out up to 15 feet away. It strikes with pretty decent force, able to knock things back, hurt like a hard punch. The attack may leave a bruise if the player chooses to take any lasting damage. Though the tongue is ethereal and can only hit one target per cast, if he hits a small, light object, it may stick to the tongue as it retracts. As soon as the tongue has fully retracted, it disappears. He can do this three times.

The narrow miss did not make Paracelsian feel good. He really couldn't hit worth a damn. And, adding insult to injury (or the other way around), a tongue shot out and smacked him away! He found himself wondering if a Senshi of Yoshis was possible. He wasn't able to wonder for long, though, because he became keenly aware of the shattering around him. There were icicles coming from the sky! Big, nasty, sharp looking ones. In the moment, he didn't feel any other senshi around that could summon such an attack, and that made him question what the heck was going on. Did he miss a memo or something?

In any case, he also thought he saw a spike plummeting towards the senshi's head as he righted himself. By all means, he should have let the senshi take the hit, but human decency and reflexes took over. "Look out! Move!" he called out, hoping he really wouldn't have to see a senshi take an ice spike through the head right now.

The sudden outburst of "look out!" confused Nix enough to hesitate in his motions, although since he was looking straight at the guy (lunging, even), he got the idea and rolled to the side. An icicle smashed on the ground with enough force that suggested that would have sucked.

"Gah! Wha-what the?" he sputtered, staring at it, then glanced up at the sky. So many more. There was an awning nearby, behind the other guy, which seemed to not be getting stabbed through by ice (yet, anyway), so...he grabbed onto the Nega's wrist (to repay the kindness of not letting him get stabbed by the thing. "C'mon!" he breathed, and lunged toward the awning, hopefully getting out of the falling death spikes before anything worse happened.

Oh, yeah, something was definitely afoot. When the senshi grabbed his wrist, Paracelsian reflexively pulled back a little, but then he realized that the senshi was leading him to safety. The reprieve probably wouldn't last long, but he was going to take it. He let Nix pull him towards the awning, at which point he put himself up against the wall and hoped that the ice couldn't pierce the cover. "Thanks," he said quickly to the senshi. That human decency thing made him feel strange sometimes, especially when it conflicted with Negaverse doctrines. Meanwhile, he stared out, watching the icicles shatter on the ground. He hoped they'd stop soon, because dodging death spikes was not how he wanted to head home.

"Well, that's...different," Nix muttered, looking out at the falling daggers. The battle was, clearly, forgotten. Temporarily, at least. He turned to erstwhile opponent and said, "Thanks, uh, for warning me. You seem a lot less, erm...horribly evil than other people from the Negaverse I've met." He scratched his head, frowning some, looking a bit sheepish, and confused.

"I guess we could, uh, call it a...truce for now, yeah?" Hesitantly, he held out a hand to shake. "I'm Nix. No telling how long it's gonna be raining, uh, daggers, so might as well know that."

Paracelsian gave Nix a nod of acknowledgement, a small smile hidden behind his mask. "I do my best to make things painless." He tried not to sigh when Nix referred to his brethren as horribly evil; it was probably true that there were some unsavory characters in his organization. (More than probably, at that.) He shook the hand offered to him; it occurred to him that he could have used the opportunity to attempt a drain, but he wasn't feeling up for betraying this one's trust right now. Besides, this guy could be a potential contact down the road. "Lieutenant Paracelsian," he said as a simple introduction. His gaze then shifted to the area outside of the awning. "I think it's slowing down a bit."

“Why do you ‘collect energy,’ anyway, Lieutenant Para…cel..sian?” Nix asked, stumbling on the name some as he echoed it, thinking maybe he could learn something actually useful out of this situation. (Not to mention his natural tendency to just keep asking questions.)

It occurred to him after the handshake that he didn’t know how ‘collecting energy’ even worked. He figured he’d know if this lieutenant tried it, but…what would even be the sign?

His attention was split between watching movements and reactions of this lieutenant, and watching spikes smash into the ground. “Hopefully it’s not too much longer. Would suck to have to sit here all night…” He didn't add that his mom would be pissed to find out he'd snuck out.

The stumble on his name made Paracelsian arch an eyebrow. Was his name really that much of a mouthful? In any case, he hummed as he thought over the answer. He found that he suddenly couldn't find a satisfactory answer. He didn't remember the precise details, but surely the energy was needed for something... he ended up making something up. "It's needed to power our technology in our headquarters and elsewhere." That seemed reasonable enough, right? "It's... special. That's why we can't use electricity or normal sources." Now it sounded like a hunk of hooey.

As Paracelsian stared forward, the icicle fall grew even slower. Soon, one fell, and then no others seemed to come after it. "I think it's done," he said. "I think we can go our separate ways now."
