The burly black male hadn't been around to look at all the borders of this new pride land yet. He needed to, and it was high time that he did so, so why not? Not like he really had anything else to do anyhow. Since the pride was just beginning to establish itself and hadn't really caught the attention of any enemies yet, there wasn't really... Anything to do, so to speak. Granted, Sam was pretty used to this kind of thing. He had once been apart of a pride some time ago, but it had since disbanded and every lion had gone their separate ways, himself included. Since then, he had just been kind of... Around. He was a bulky lion that most didn't seem to care to mess with. He didn't mind. He wasn't a loner, but at least he could stay out of trouble and out of others business that way. His facial marking was also a plus in that regard.
Now though, Samedi had gotten himself back into a pridal situation. He hoped it was going to be decent. If it wasn't, he would leave. No sweat off of his back. Still, he hoped it did work out. One didn't really want to be alone forever, this loner lion included. Gazing up at the water drenched rocks that caged the prides silver sanded beaches, the burly male began to make his rounds. This would eventually become routine once the pride was settled, so now was as good of a time as ever to start.

There had been more need of defense when the pride had been smaller on the move. Over time more and more lions had ended up joining the efforts to reach this silver beached place. Maybe it was because of Nilak's theories or maybe it was that Faun was being a strong leader or maybe it was the promise of a place of learning among many other possibilities. Niite'Manu never concerned her self with over thinking really anything. Sure she'd grown up around scribes her self but honestly she had been more interested in being a warrior. In the mists she'd been a strong warrior and mastered the art of traveling from slick rock to slick rock. Her footing was the envy of any lion and Niite was well aware of this. The female felt no need to hide that she was a well balanced warrior and a force to be reckoned with. It was why Faun went to her and asked for her to aid in the protection of the pride. The two had been warriors together at some point but Faun now had a bigger responsibility to take on that Niite did not envy in the least. She much rather stick to what she was best at which was protecting. Right now her eyes were on a lion she only barely knew but had caught her eye when he'd decided to be placed with in her ranks. The lioness trailed him silently on the silver beaches for some time watching his patrol. She was careful to keep her distance and even more careful not to make a sound. Her eyes never leaving this recruit except for the occasional blink. She was focused. After a while she grew bored and revealed her self. "Samedi," She called to the skull faced male. "What do you think you're doing?" She knew full well he'd begun his rounds but she was being smart and maybe slightly abusing her power to talk to him. Whether the female would admit it or not she was a little fixated on this male for all the wrong reasons.

A black ear flicked backwards with the 'sudden appearance' of the female. Was it supposed to be unexpected? Samedi supposed so. He was quite unphased though. 'Surprises' didn't really... Surprise him. There weren't many a lion out there that wanted to challenge the black male, much less a female feeling cocky or bored enough. His big boned frame usually made others decide against their poor decision before acting upon them. This lioness though appeared to have another agenda.
Stopping in his tracks, his heavy paws sinking ever so slightly into the gleaming silver sand, Samedi turned around, his bright yellow eyes catching the sight of the female in question. It was one of his direct superiors, Niite'somethingoranother. He couldn't recall her full name off the top of his head. Hopefully she wouldn't mind.
"Niite. Hello." He paused for a moment, looking around to see if there were any prying ears around. "Just... You know, patrolling." He shrugged lightly, his broad shoulders rolling. "I figured I had to do something. This seemed like a good something to do." He paused again, looking her over. He noticed the skull on her shoulder, cocking an eyebrow up quizzically at the marking, taking notice of the similar appearance his face held. "What do you think you're doing?"

Niite took notice of the casual use of her name instead of the full Niite'Manu but didn't correct the male. It was something she was going to hold on to though. "Don't question your superior." The order was direct but her voice had a bit of a relaxed none serious undertone to the way the female delivered her bit. "I am glad you're patrolling but honestly... Maybe you should take a more challenging choice. Like ... mmm.. " She looked to the side and back to Samedi again, "How are you on the rocks? That is one of the more challenging areas that needs patrolling. Surely you'd be able to handle it no problem." Partly she did want more lions patrolling the rocks but also she was pulling for excuses as a superior to have a conversation with Samedi. Faun would have been quite cross with her if he knew what she was up to.

The dark male cocked an eyebrow yet again. Something was a little off about the way this lioness was talking to him, but he couldn't quite pinpoint it either. His lack of interaction with others for quite some time was going to show in this regard, but he figured that well... She was his superior. Female or not, he had to respect her rank and listen to her orders. It's how ranks worked. He was below her. His yellow eyes looking up at the slick rocks above the two of them, he shrugged again, his large shoulders rolling back once more.
"I mean, I'm sure I could do it. I just choose not to. It doesn't look very comfortable." He was all too honest and it probably wasn't a good thing to be. His yellow eyes looked back to the white and blue female. "I'm a hefty lion. I don't know honestly how my paws with my heavy frame would handle the grip on those rocks." He paused yet again. He wasn't a fat lion by any means! He was just really large. Because of being on the larger side, some things like springing from one object to another weren't in the realm of easy for him. "Still, if you'd like me to try a paw at it, I can. You are my superior after all."

Niite was taken aback a bit by how forward this male was being about not wanting to patrol the rocks. They were really high and the moisture from the sea did make them really slick. The lioness could feel something heavy on her chest which told her maybe she shouldn't push her luck and get this lion killed before really getting to know him. "Well... Sure I see what you're saying. You aren't used to slick rocks either nor made to do such a task. " She cleared her throat, "Though you really should watch how you talk to a superior. You're a bit to casual for your own good," There. She threw her rank in his face in hopes of saving face. In truth, Niite was not a good flirt. She'd never had a crush before. The lionesses whole life had revolved around being the best warrior she could be and now that she was of a rank that was quite honorable her focus was slipping towards other priorities. Like talking to this male for what ever dumb reason. Her nerve was beginning to slip. "I well... I'll patrol the beach with you for a bit then and inspect your form." There. A better excuse.

Samedi nodded towards Niite. "Exactly. Slick rocks and big me. Not a very good combination." He then paused as she cleared her throat, his black ears perking up a little bit. Apparently she had more to say. "Oh. Yes. Well, I mean. That's just me." He shrugged yet again, his tail flicking slightly behind him. "I can try to not be so casual, but that's just how I am." With yet another pause, Samedi now wondered if he should say next what his brain instantly thought of. It wasn't the smarted decision, but he had just gotten through telling her that he was who he was. Blunt with not much regard to whom he was talking to. Taking that 'risk', he opened his maw. "Unlike you who put your rank forward."
With that said, he took his attention off of the rocks above the two of them, focusing it back on his general surroundings. Figuring their conversation was pretty much done at this point, Samedi then turned back around, starting on his not so routine patrol of the beaches. His ears flicked back as Niite spoke again. "As you wish. Two patrols are better than one." He didn't have a comment about his own form. He just... Walked. He didn't think it was that big an issue of how his feet padded along the sand.

Niite'Manu's brow transformed in to something of a confused and shocked look to something of an irritated look than to something of an amused look. It was as if she really thought if she should be mad about the comment before reacting which was good for Niite and a sign she was growing up in some form. Maybe she shouldn't hold rank over some one when she was was clearly in the wrong for bothering Sam while he was trying to do his job. "Well... " Niite looked thoughtful, "Yeah. It's better to have two lions on patrol than one and besides with me by your side you could learn a thing or two I'm sure." Niite puffed her chest out proudly before starting off down the silver beach.

Samedi cocked yet another eyebrow at the lioness's comment. "Yes. Surely." Continuing to walk forward along the silver shoreline, some thoughts began to invade the lion's mind. He hadn't had much social interaction with others in a very long time, but he did think it was strange how the lioness was acting. Was she his commanding superior? Yes. Was she his only commanding superior? No. Not at all. Was he of any special interest at all? Not that he could see. So why was she so interested in what he in particular was doing? Something was missing from the picture that he just couldn't see.
His paws continuing to pad along, his eyes glazed over the ocean, the consistently dark air about it soothing in an odd manner. "What about the other chevaliers? Will you be inspecting their form and potential rock hopping as well?" A good question he thought.

Crap. Fun was over now. Niite found her bluff being called and she now had to make good on that. "Oh right. " She began, "I'm actually on my rounds now to do just that." She was disappointed but hey to keep the act like some times you had to go off and pretend you were looking in to the other chevaliers. Which to be fair she was going to go do now but with a sting of disappointment. "Well good form there. Keep it up and what have you." She turned her tail and headed off.

With Niite suddenly deciding that this was not going either the way she wanted or the way she had hoped, she spoke a few quick words and then pretty much high tailed right on out. Samedi, was honestly confused. However, he took her sudden words and actions as an okay then, simply shrugged his dark shoulders, and continued the direction that the two of them had been heading together so she could 'inspect his form'.
With the silver sands of the foggy beach pressing gently between his white and black toes, Samedi padded along, beginning to set a common patrol route in his brain.
