Some worse off may suffer from the sensation of drowning beneath strange, rainbow colored water. People are passing out from fatigue and some people are suffering from strange vertigo. There doesn’t seem to be an end in sight.
He groaned loudly, shoving his face into a pillow to try and muffle the noise. Why couldn't destiny city ever go longer then a few weeks without something going wrong or trying to screw them over? A hand scrubbed at his face as he sat up, glaring at nothing in particular. With a scowl, he stalked into the kitchen, hell bent on coffee.
Screw whatever time of the night it was. If he was going to be miserable and sleep deprived, he was going to drown himself in coffee to go with it.a-disgruntled-dragon LOOK ALEX. HE TRIED TO BE A GOOD BOY AND LET YOU SLEEP

She'd been awake since he'd left to go to the couch. Not out of any sort of annoyance or upset over him leaving (sometimes you just needed your space to sleep, and it was possible she'd been snoring again ) but because she too could not get to sleep. Alex was not necessarily used to insomnia. Going out on patrol every night and working during the day kept her pretty primed for sleep. Tonight though, something just would not let her sleep.
First, her leg was twitching, so she cracked her hips and joints. Then she was too hot, then too cold. Her mind wouldn't shut up, then the silence would keep her awake. The final straw was a sudden and intense feeling of drowning. Whatever it was filled up the room and weighed her down, a million colors dancing in front of her eyes.
It took her fifteen minutes to snap herself out of it and jolt upright. Fifteen long minutes where she could neither cry out or move.
Alex stumbled out of the bedroom, eyes wide with lack of sleep and terror, and made her way into the kitchen to drink water. She almost didn't see Rene until she was all but standing on him. Alex leaned against him and let out a shaky breath, willing the world to stop swaying too.
"...I officially hate winters in Destiny City..." she mumbled against his shoulder.

He grunted when she leaned against him, and did his best to ignore the way he tensed further. "******** winters, I hate Destiny City." Rene grumbled, glaring at the coffee maker. Was there anything worth while in this damn city to begin with? His gaze flickered to Alex for a moment before he sighed.
Besides her.
Rene flex his fingers a few times, before shoving them in the pocket of his hoodie, willing his nerves away and hoping she didn't notice the minute tremours that tore through him.

Alex frowned and looked up at him, gently rubbing his arm. He was shaking, small tremors thundering through his body. She shifted around him and took his face in her hands.
"Rene. Are you okay? You're shaking," she said, concern on her face. Clearly, he wasn't ok, but this was different. She was reminded of the mirrorscape, of falling off the platform and almost dying.
Fear.
"Tell me," she prompted softly. Her thumbs stroked his cheekbones as she waited patiently.

Rene mentally cursed. Damn... Of course she'd notice. He shouldn't have put it past her not to. "No." He muttered. "I'm not okay." He sighed, tilting his head into one of her hands and nuzzling into her palm. "I'd be fine with this lack of sleep thing... if it weren't for the fact I keep feeling like I'm drowning." He said softly, running a hand through his hair. "At this point I'm not sure what's keeping me up more... The damn insomnia caused by the aurora or..." His words trailed off, how to put it. Rene fell silent for a few moments, as he brought his hand up to curl around hers.
She deserved to know.
"Drowning... isn't a feeling I like revisiting..." He mumbled quietly, looking away almost shyly. "Long story short... My sister and I were playing by a pool and I fell in. I didn't know how to swim at the time so I sank like a rock. I don't remember much, if any of it. Mom says I blacked out and swallowed a lot of water. I blue, not breathing, the whole nine yards." He shrugged listlessly. "Waking up feeling like I'm drowning??? Not a fun mental game..."

Oh. Oh noooo. She pulled him to her, hugging him tightly. Her hands trailed to his back and rubbed soothing circles against his shoulder blades. Drowning was not good, imagined or real. She nuzzled his chest reassuringly.
"I'm so sorry Rene..." she said quietly, still rubbing his back. Alex attempted to impress upon him the feelings of safety and comfort, but she probably just squeezed his ribs uncomfortably.
At least she tried!

Rene grunted softly as Alex nuzzled against him. He shrugged halfheartedly but pulled his hands from his pockets before wrapping them around her. "It's alright.. S'not your fault. You didn't know." Rene didn't want to admit that his grip on her was a little tighter than normal. "I don't know how to swim. I never learned. So I'm usually that person on the beach watching everyone's stuff. Being on boats.... It's kind of hit or miss. Sometimes I'm fine, other times I can't mask the fear. Made the mistake on going on a rafting trip once. Never. Again." Rene rolled his shoulders, some of the tension in them had been worked out from her ministrations. "Figured I should say something... Given the bullshittery that's going on now." He was silent for a moment before speaking up again. "...I'm not going to be fun to be around tonight. Between the lack of sleep, and that, I'm going to be pretty damn miserable..."

She mused with his hair, running her fingers through the strands. Just because she didn't know, did not mean that she didn't want to see him in pain. She pressed her mouth to his cheek gently.
"Thank you for telling me, and I think neither of us is gunna be a real fun time tonight," said the woman, drawing her hands down his face and holding his head gently. Alex smiled at him and gestured with her head to the TV.
"Want to watch really bad sitcoms until the sun rises? Think it might help. If only for the hilarity of Carol coming back from the dead again."
