With the launch of more and more races, mutations are becoming obsolete. With each new launch traits that were considered mutations are now becoming racial or hybrid traits. This is making it incredibly difficult for many colorists to effectively and efficiently make mutants. Due to the increasing difficulties and the erasure of existing mutations (such as four eyes with the release of shades, or fangs with the release of naga/nekos), we are adjusting what mutations are considered.

As of October 14th, 2017 a mutation is considered anything that the existing race does not already possess, so long as it is not a direct line splice from pre-existing races or existing race templates. In the past certain mutations were allowed without needing the race present, such as wing mutations without requiring a winged race. However, other mutations were race restricted. An example would be our mushroom mutation, which was only allowed for dryad or dryad hybrids. Now you can get these mutations without requiring a hybrid.

Because some mutations will be very similar to other racial traits, it will be required to include some other noticeable, larger mutation.

Some examples of mutations:

  1. A pure demon that has slit pupils and fangs (normally naga/neko traits), but also has three horns.
  2. A pure baphomet with branch horns ( normally bapho/dryad), but also feathered hip wings.
  3. A kumiho with that has four eyes (usually a shade trait), but also ankle bat wings.
  4. A pure imp with two sets of horns (usually a baphomet trait), but also has an elongated tail.


Some example of non-mutations (as they are hybrids due to direct line splices):

  1. A naga with chimera base wings.
  2. A doll with geist tendrils.
  3. A shade with a chomp tail.
  4. A cherub with sluagh arms.


Staffers/Colorists must clearly state what races are included in the NM/DDs that they make in their drops during the month of October to prevent customer confusion.

If you need to know what's been pre-approved for mutations and what's been denied there's a list here! IT WILL be added to throughout the month/future, so keep an eye on it!

Not Allowed: (this list is pre-declined mutations)
  • No extra arms, legs, or heads.
  • No strange growths that resemble tumors or anything of the like.
  • No blood, or exposed organs.
  • Do not remove eyes unless you cover them with something.
  • Do not remove mouths, unless you want to remove the mouth from a shade or shade hybrid, provided you keep the mouth on the tail.
  • No open wounds (this wouldn't be a mutation anyways)
  • Beaks.
  • Muzzles (markings that resembles muzzles is still A-OK)


Allowed (this list is just pre-approved mutations):
  • Double eyes
  • Double tails
  • Multiple ears
  • Extra horns
  • Demon tails ending in some form of shape (I.E: a star)
  • Third eye
  • Possessing only one eye (cyclops-esque)
  • Wing mutations
  • We WILL approve minor bone showing, bone on tails, but not in a grotesque or gorey way as this is against Gaia's ToS.
  • Double irises/pupils
  • Different shaped irises/pupils
  • Altered ears that still resemble their original race.
  • Custom wings
  • Thorns on fey flowers
  • Fey flowers with eyes
  • Long tongue
  • Shark tails
  • Cracked doll bodies
  • Split hoof hands
  • Singular horns
  • Tentacles
  • Extra Mouths
