Quote: Your Christmas cookies turned out great for once! There was no burning or dropping of the batter and now you have dozens of cookies just waiting to be eaten or given out as gifts. However, as you leave the cookies to cool and go about your business, the smell of gingerbread seems to follow you, no matter if you made gingerbread cookies or not. A strange feeling as though someone is watching you takes over and from time to time you swear that you can hear a strange little voice saying the same thing over and over. “You can’t catch me”. The feeling passes after a few hours, but it might be best to avoid gingerbread for the rest of the holiday season…just in case.
Christmas cookies were the best. Sants needed dozens of them, every year, and this year she and Aidan had decided that instead of spending lots and lots of money on toys and treats for people, they would put their love into all of the gifts they gave out to people who weren't actually part of the family, and they would make cookies to share! Now, Giulia knew a lot of people now who could use some cookies, and not just their classmates. There would be people that she had met when she was just boring Princess Giulia, before she became Charybdis; there would be all of the magical kitties that she had made friends with, and there would be Elex, and there would be Mr. Colin who taught ballet classes, and there would be the other students and their parents, and there would be the staff and their families, and there would be... just so many people.
Her kitchen- well, the family's kitchen, that more belonged to the domain of their aggressively maternal Cookie- had been stacked with little Holiday tins, all decorated with things like stars and bells and tiny shimmery snowflakes and bright colored ribbon patterns, rather than things like Santa Claus and Christmas trees. After all, some people may not believe in Santa, or like the Holiday times, or may have sad memories and not want a full dose of Christmas cheer. She could never tell! So it was probably for the best that they all made a wide selection, and then people could pick their favorite tins, and still be surprised by all of the delicious love that Giulia and her brother had stuffed inside. Which originally, the idea had probably sounded more lovely that it would be, in theory.
But then all of the cookies and treats that they had done with Cookie started coming out of the ovens, and everything had just been brilliant! The fudge hadn't set quite right, but the cookies had been even and unburnt, and the y has formed absolutely perfect shapes for icing, and there hadn't been a huge chunk of any batter left in the bowls once the brookies- the brownie cookies!- were done and ready to go, and they didn't fall apart as they were scooped off the trays to cool on the wide counters, and none of the cookie people lost their arms, or their legs!
Now, armed with tins of cookies and brookies and fudges, Giulia and Aidan were out in the neighborhood, each gone in a different direction. Tins left near every door, if no one answered at the knock, and Giulia was peering at every kitty carefully, trying to gauge if this was one of those magic kitties. Behind her, she dragged a wagon still piled high with the carefully-baked booty, and she simply couldn't wait to see who she might be able to give something out to next.
It was odd, though... she could smell cookies everywhere. And not the kind she made. At every door, she seemed to catch a whiff of gingerbread, even though she hadn't made any gingerbread people. Did that many people love it? And then once, her little ear close to a doggy door, she'd heard the whisper- You can't catch me. It was almost as creepy as the one- a chill down her spine, and she had scampered to the next house. And then she'd heard it again, coming from a mailbox. How creepy!

Giulia wasn't the only one smelling cookies. Lured by the smell of one of her favorite holiday foods, Etoile, resident (self-proclaimed) sweets aficionado, was on the hunt, having caught the scent of gingerbread as well. At first, she had thought that perhaps Alise or her mother had made gingerbread cookies, seeing as there had been talk of baking Christmas cookies earlier. Then, Etoile thought that perhaps Alise had brought some home from the bakery, but a quick search of the house had turned up neither cookies or Alise. Her next line of thought was that perhaps one of the neighbors was baking gingerbread cookies, but... In any case, the little cat couldn't just pass up the opportunity for treats, and thus, she was out in search of those elusive cookies. It never occurred to her once that there weren't any, as she wasn't the brightest crayon in the box, but rather, Etoile's decision making progress was ruled by her stomach, as always. Thankfully she didn't have to search far- while she didn't find any gingerbread cookies, she caught sight of a wagon being pulled, filled with tins that she was pretty certain were filled with delicious sweets, of the non-gingerbread kind. Even better, upon getting closer, Etoile realized that the wagon was being pulled by none other than her tiny savior, Giulia, who had rescued her from a certain fate of starving to death, many months ago. Maybe she knew if anyone had made any gingerbread cookies? Even if she didn't, Etoile was hopeful of getting some treats again, and thus, she decided to follow the wagon, hoping to catch the little girl's attention. Perhaps she should say something?

From door to door, the small girl and her cart trundled, bundled warm and smiling at everyone she passed or who opened the door, trying to push her cookies like she was one of the Girl Scouts, the only difference being her cookies were free. And she was certain they were infinitely better than any thin meentz that a girl scout could offer, because she had made amazing, delicious cookies. Giulia had just finished pushing a small tin of them at her next victim and was making her way back down the sidewalk, when she thought she caught sight of a small figure, half-hidden behind a lump of snow.
There was something familiar about the creature, once she realized what it was. A kitten, kind of small, and probably who shouldn't be out in the cold all by itself. Owners should take much better care of their precious little babies! But as she picked up her wagon handle and thought harder, she realized just what she was looking at- and not just any normal cat. She knew this one! She'd met this one! It was a star head kitty!
"Hello Kitty," she called sweetly, in case any strangers were around, and dropped the handle of her wagon, making her way over to the small kitten, her own tiny feet crunching on the salted sidewalk, "Isn't it a little cold for you to be out all alone today? Would you like to come for a walk with me?" she crouched on the sidewalk, and in a quieter voice asked, "You- I met you before. You're Etoile! Remember me? I'm Giulia, I helped you find... um... the old girl. The big one." Would the pretty starheadkitty remember her? Did it matter? "It's awful cold today, would you like to ride in my scarf, or on my wagon? I'm giving out cookies."
And speaking of cookies, her wagon was beginning to roll down the sidewalk- and there was a laugh, ringing in the corner of her mind- a wicked giggle and a You can't catch me! Oh, no!

"I remember you!" Etoile exclaimed, delighted to know that she had also been remembered, "You helped me find Alise, when I was locked out of the house. I'm still very happy that you did, I would have starved without you." Which was a pretty big exaggeration, to be honest; certainly, if Etoile stopped to think about it, she was adorable enough for someone to eventually take pity on her... even if it meant icky cat food and not her beloved sweets. Still, to Etoile, any moment spent without a guarantee of food surely was a sign of inevitable starvation. When Giulia offered to give the little cat a ride in her scarf (and when Etoile heard mention of the word 'cookies'), Etoile sat eagerly, waiting to be picked up. How fortunate, for her to be reunited with her small savior! Perhaps together, they would find out where the gingerbread cookies were, and Giulia could acquire some for the tiny Mauvian. "I would very much like a ride in your scarf!" she answered, cheerfully, "But I do not mind a ride in your wagon as well."

Giulia reached out to grab the kitty, picking her up carefully and bundling her against her own small, narrow chest. "I am glad you didn't starve." Giulia's giggle was breathless, and then she broke into a jog, chasing after her runaway cookie cart. How dare it try and escape from her! Those cookies were for people to eat, not carts! "You are too cute to go hungry!" her lungs were already burning, but Etoile was kept safe and sound and jostled as little as possible, until Giulia managed to fling her small body in front of the cart, grabbing at the handle and grabbing at the little brake in the wheels, to force it to a stop.
"H-Here." she gently unwrapped her scarf, settling it down on the cart to try and prevent any chill, before offering the warm half-nest to the mauvian in her arms. "We will get you a plate of cookies. I made them, but I made too many. You can have all the cookies you want, and I can even give you some to take home to Alise, if you think she likes them." The scent of gingerbread coming from her cart was simply overwhelming and Giulia's brow furrowed.
"I didn't make any gingerbread cookies though," she whispered to the small kitten- "I think there is something naughty happening." The giggle of You can't catch me! drifted to her ears again- but there was still nothing nearby.
