Quote: This time of year, snow is common. What’s uncommon is the single, strange snowfall that glistened like tiny diamonds. Everything about the snow seemed normal—it’s cold, wet, and melts just like any other snow, it just also happens to look like tiny little gems are falling from the sky. Depending on who you’re with, it’s either incredibly strange, or incredibly romantic.
In her seventh winter, Giulia was finally coming to enjoy this 'magical' time of the year. Sometimes she had memories of bad things associated with it, she imagined- what with the cold, and the wet, and the darkness, and the loneliness that sometimes came at night. Sometimes the small blonde thought that she could remember being really truly small, that first Christmas when their first Mother had gone away to live in Heaven with their sister Kayley? And sometimes she thought she could remember those years before Jada decided that she was really ready and grown up enough to be their new Mama. Oh, the memories weren't firm ones, but she could remember Zora dancing her around a tree on a table, and Mr. Grandpa Michael with his sad smile as he looked at her and Aidan. Apart from the decorations, dhe couldn't remember any bright and light for the holidays when she was really small.
But then the memories got less hazy and weird. She remembered last Christmas really good, and the way everything in the big house had been decorated. There had still been a lot of sad look in Mr. Grandpa Michael's face, but Zora and Lucas had been happy. There had been lots of new places to learn, and there had been garlands hung everywhere, and they had more than one Christmas tree for the first time, and she had gotten all kinds of new things to decorate her room in the new houses that they were going to live in, and Giulia had new friends to make, and there was holly, and the smell of cookies, and they had gotten to find new secret places to hide, and apples and cinnamon and they had made a Wah-Sail and someone had set the stove on fire, and then there had been Christmas movies and laughter under piles of blankets. Santa had come, bringing his small gifts, and there had been snow, and...
It had almost been as magical last year as it was going to be this year, with all of her family around. Daddy, and Uncle Marlo, and Mr. Grandpa, and Zora, and Lucas, and Jada, and Vainey too, she hoped.
Charybdis sat on the park bench, staring up through the streetlamp lights at the snow that was falling, trying to remember- ah, yes. Last Christmas there had been some magic too. There had been some crystals in the snow. They had put them over the mantle and the fire, and they hadn't melted, and at the time, the little girl had thought that maybe it was just a really fun treat from Santa. But now she was suspicious- the diamond-like glitter of the snow falling could be magical, or a bad trick from bad people.
In the dark, she could feel magical people all around, but there wasn't any magic in the sky, so maybe... maybe this was going to be okay. Maybe it was just a Christmas magic after all, like in the movies; the snow seemed to melt, and real snow gems wouldn't do that. She kicked her feet, nose scrunching up, peering at the diamond-dust that seemed to be covering everything and just... shimmering. It was going to be a white Christmas... and that would be nice, if the little chill didn't run down her spine still at the song that had woken her up a couple of nights ago.

For the second year in a row, Lepus was dealing with strange snow. Well, it was entirely possible there had been weird things happening in past winters, but Lepus hadn't been entirely paying attention back then... maybe. She wasn't keeping count, really, or something like that. Last winter had also been the year she'd met one of the senshi from her constellation; she'd also met a few other people, as well as run into some strange snow rabbits, which according to certain sources, apparently, like, carried the plague or something. (She was still kinda disappointed she hadn't thought to try catching one.) This year, there didn't seem to be any of the strange rabbits around, which was okay, Lepus supposed. Instead, the snow was glittering, a little like tiny gems, almost, though it otherwise seemed normal. Well, for now, at least. Making her way through the park, Lepus spied a familiar face sitting on one of the benches, and immediately regretted not taking Etoile with her. "Charybdis!" she called out, as she made her way over to the younger girl, "Hey!"

Charybdis blinked as one of the magical people moved in her direction- it was one of the warm feelings, not the yucky ones. And at the sound of her name? The small senshi practically flung herself happily off of her park bench, racing over to meet the older senshi. "Lepus!" she cried, and her gloved hands reached out, greedily moving in for a hug with all the expectation of a child. "How are you?" she practically pranced in place, overjoyed to see her rabbit-making friend again. "Look at the pretty snow! You look so pretty tonight. Happy Holidays! Are you warm? Do you want my little cloak?"
Merurulince Sorry for the delay. Been a bit ill.

Lepus was at an age where she liked to claim she was too old for hugs, or at least that was the stance she had started to take with her grandparents lately. And her mom sometimes, too. It was a phase, probably, an act of teenage rebellion, or just Lepus being Lepus, which was to say that she was being her usual weird self. Charybdis was an exception, though, maybe just because she was a kid who thought Lepus was cool, or maybe just because Lepus didn't have a lot of friends, and thus she returned the hug with no problem whatsoever. "I'm doing pretty okay," Lepus said, which was mostly the truth, aside from some personal matters that had no place in this conversation, "Sorry I didn't bring Etoile with me- I'll tell her you said hi, though, if you'd like!" Lepus knew that the little Mauvian would be delighted to hear about just who she ran into, though disappointed at not being able to see her herself. Looking up again at the falling gem snow, and then back at Charybdis, Lepus felt a tiny surge of pride at being called 'pretty', even if she didn't really look any different than any other night (maybe). "Happy holidays to you too! I guess I'm a little chilly, but is it okay? Won't you be cold if I borrow your cloak?" Lepus asked, curious.

Lepus giving her a hug was super nice. Giulia loved hugs, loved giving them and receiving them. Hugs were warm and fluffy and generous, and made the little girl delightfully happy with life. So for Lepus to hug her back without hesitating at all- a proper big grown up who wasn't family giving her hugs- it helped to restore some little bit of the child who was wondering if being so open with her affection was actually okay. She was validated. And the idea of getting to see the little kitty Etoile was nice, but Giulia would be glad to make do with seeing Lepus here instead. Some time with an older senshi who had such cute, awesome powers like Lepus... Giulia would grow up to be a big, strong savior of the world!
"Please tell her!" the seven-year-old chirped gleefully. "As for my cloak, I'll be fine. I take it off to sit on it and keep the snow off my bottom, but I am somehow still really warm? Like I don't even know how, but I like it. I get a little hot in the simmer though. And even my toes stay warm and I don't have to wear any little snow booties! But it would be nice to wear snow booties, don't you think? Or a big long coat? That would be too cool. Oh! Cape!" she reached up, tugging the ends apart. Underneath, her fuku was long-sleeved, the leotard pristine. "Isn't the snow so cool, Lepus?"

"That's pretty handy," Lepus said approvingly, and she meant it, too. "I sometimes bring a coat with me, like when I have Etoile with me, but I don't always remember." Even though she had a ton of bunny hoodies. Her outfit was pretty okay for the summer, at least, though sometimes Lepus would buy ice cream for herself and Etoile to share. Generally, as she was usually out at night, the weather wasn't too hot, for the most part, but that was a conversation better left for when summertime came around again. Waiting while Charybdis undid her cloak, Lepus listened as the younger girl talked, quietly nodding in agreement to some of the things she was saying. Having snow boots or a big coat would be handy; an outfit that changed to fit the summer and winter weather, even better. "It's pretty to look at, anyway," she finally said, in response to Charybdis' question, "I mean... with how it kinda looks like gems? That's really pretty." And kinda weird, but it didn't seem to do anything, so it was mostly pretty.

Giulia was practically bouncing around the other senshi, trying to throw her cape up onto the shoulders of the older girl, so she could tuck her in all safe and warm like you were supposed to, when you were sharing. Right? Would her little cloak manage to be big enough for the broader shoulders of the other senshi? Well- until she got it up there, how could they find out? "Bringing a coat out is really smart!" she chirped with an authority and maturity that she certainly didn't possess; "It would keep Etoile nice and warm, and she could help keep you really warm."
Trying to be sneaky, the seven-year-old considered her own teeny hands next to the bigger hands of the senshi of rabbits. No, her gloves would be much too small, and she couldn't offer her shoes! Did she have anything else she could do to try and help the other girl stay warm? Maybe she could power down later and give Lepus money to buy them some cocoa? But that would be weird, two young girls buying cocoa alone at like- it had to be after 10:00! Probably. It was getting harder to tell the time by how sleepy she was.
"It is pretty to look at." Giulia's mind was off again, skittering from one thought to another without a rest. "It is sparkly, but it melts, and it doesn't stay all solid like last year. Last year we were using snowflakes as decorations because they stayed all pretty and hard like little glass statues? But this year the snow makes for the prettiest snowmen! Like they are made out of diamonds."

Lepus made an awkward attempt at helping Charybdis with the cloak, not exactly wanting to seem like she didn't think the smaller girl couldn't do it herself, but... because... that was what friends did? Something like that? Lepus wasn't super sure, because she could count the number of friends she had that weren't talking cats or powered individuals on one hand (if at that), but it beat just standing there like some kind of loser, which she definitely wasn't. "Like diamonds, huh?" Lepus mused; it was true that the snow was pretty sparkly, like the kind of sparkly gemstones were, though diamonds didn't melt... or at least they didn't melt like snow. (She wasn't actually sure if diamonds could melt or not, come to think of it.) "Y'know, I bet there's actual diamond snowflakes, that someone made," Lepus said, thoughtful, "Probably super expensive, though."

In the end, the cloak was a little lopsided, but Lepus would hopefully be warm enough. That was what Charybdis cared about! The little girl hummed happily as she mothered her older companion, brushing at invisible fluff before stepping away, gloved hands going to her hips as she proudly declared "And there! Just perfect!" Giulia thought so, anyways. While her opinion might not be shared, well... It happened. And as long as Lepus wasn't shuddering with chill, 'perfect' would remain the choice word for the lopsided situation. "Diamonds are awful pretty, all crystal and shiny and clear. They do lots of things with light, and the sparkling and stuff. And the snow is more sparkly than usual. Did you know every snowflake is one of a kind, just like people?" Even twin people, like Zora, and herself! Even identical twins were special. No two people were the same inside AND out... "We have crystal snowflakes on the tree, but I don't think we have any actual diamond ones." Her voice was slow, thoughtful. "They would be awful heavy, don't you think? Diamonds are supposed to be super hard, so they couldn't just be puffed and shaped, like glass."
