Heavy snow had plagued Destiny City for a few days and it seemed to take ages for the clouds to clear. When they finally thinned, there was something more surprising than just the night sky: a glorious display of colorful light danced over Destiny City. A myriad of colors paint the sky, twisting colorfully. Auroras are uncommon in this area, but it’s something unique to see. Of course, ‘unique’ in Destiny City isn’t always a good thing…
Drew looked out of the window for the eightieth time in three days. Yes, it was still snowing – snowing too hard to go out. All schools in the region had shut down, ninety-nine out of a hundred businesses had shut-down, traffic was dead, and the Mayor was two hours away from declaring a state of emergency for Destiny City. That’s how hard it was snowing. Sailors Etamin, Pasithee, and Leaena had attempted to go out in the storm and help people trapped in the storm – however, the storm was too powerful for even them, and that evening found them crawling back inside. The snow was that powerful.
He sat there and listened as the storm howled around the walls. He shivered as even the bowels of the house shook from the storm, and then… there was nothing. There was silence, there was stillness. He looked out the window once more to see… to see that the storm was ending. The snow just suddenly stopped. Then, there was light, as the clouds broke for the first time in three days. But something was wrong with the light. He couldn’t rightly tell at this moment. But no matter… He called to his family – “Mom, Dad, Dia, Dria, Dani…” he paused, tongue-tied with all the D’s. “The storm is finally breaking!”
Everyone had been napping, but were excited to hear that it was finally over. They jerked awake and jumped out of bed. They all ran into the living room where Drew was and looked out the window and sure enough the storm was lifting. Here and there, there were little cloud breaks, where the light crept in. And such strange light – colored light green light here, purple there and it seemed to change color all along and dance even. Drew looked at Dria and asked, “Could that be…” Dria looked back at him, shaking her head slowly in confusion, “It can’t be, we’re too far south…” Dani broke in as the clouds disappeared altogether to show the true form of the light, “It’s an Aurora Borealis!”
Their parents and aunt commented on how uncommon and how unique to see one here in Destiny City, so south of its native land. Later, when the adults thought the three minors weren’t listening (but they were, they always were these days, being Sailor Scouts), they would discuss the various implications and if it could be hazardous to life. Meanwhile, the three minors would have their own discussion when the adults weren’t there.
Drew, having been on the job the longest; knew that strange things, even beautiful things, were often dangerous here in Destiny City, as he often told his sisters. During this meeting, he told them again. Dria and Dani agreed with him, Dani, if only because he was older and had a lot more experience. They decided to call all their friends and partners, and discuss it with them. And all of them would be on guard. This was definitely suspicious. It could be the Negaverse.
