Kai sent out a text to Seren saying he was available for her appointed tattoo. He had finally got the last of the preperations he needed to set up his small studio in one room of the house and had painstakingly (and nervously) checked, double checked, and triple checked to make sure everything was right.
Smoking quickly, he sat in the studio waiting for the doorbell to ring and tapping his sneaker on the floorboard.

Seren got the text, and sent one to Rhys to meet her at Joy and Kai's, because it was time for her tattoo appointment. She was NOT going to be late, this meant way the heck too much to her. She quickly changed into some yoga style pants, for comfort, and an easy to remove t-shirt, then pulled her coat on over it so that her back was fully covered, no matter what, for the moment. She took several deep breaths, grabbed her keys and her phone, then headed out, locking up as she went. She trotted down the path, her eyes focused in front of her as she took slow, deep breaths to calm herself. She was, despite wanting this with every inch of her, nervous as heck. She was about to experience pain directly to her back... but it wouldn't involve belts, so it would feel different. Indeed, it was needles of some nature, so it should feel VERY different. She hoped this would keep her from having an episode of some nature.

Rhys got the text and quickly shoveled the rest of the pancakes he was eating, making sure to wash it down with water so he didn't choke before he even made it out of the cafeteria. He was feeling a little anxious for Seren, not because tattoos were painful (and they were to varying degrees depending on the person, but that wasn't what he was worried about) but more because of where she was getting hers...and what that potentially meant as far as triggering an episode was concerned.
Not to mention he wasn't sure if Kai was aware of the whole thing, though he vaguely recalled Seren mentioning that she had talked to the man about it before.
It wasn't a long trip to Joy and Kai's place, and he wore a lopsided smile as Seren came into view. Quickly he made his way over to her, asking, "You ready?" while reaching for her hand and leading her to the door. He knocked then, and gave her hand a little squeeze as they waited for someone to get the door.

The door jerkef open and Kai was there, his hair braided and tied up into a high ponytail. A cigarette was in his mouth as he syared out at both of them. "Hey. Got the place set up. Come on in." He told them and stepped aside to give them room to enter.
Shutting the door, he walked them through the living room to a back room. A stereo was playing Dolly Parton on a desk. A stiff chair of black leatherish material was in the room with a rolling light above it. A rolling tray was beside it set with a series of individually wrapped attachemenrs and needles, aling with small contaniers barely the size of the tip of a finger in a row. A tattoo gun was det atop this under a blue disposible fabric.
"I already disinfectef the bench." He told them. "If you wanna sit there with your legs up i can get started.
He snuffed out his ciggarette in a ashtray before washing his hands. "You feelin ok about this still?" He asked her.

Seren found the braided ponytail an interesting look on the big man, and she studied it, silently, for a moment, letting it be a way to focus for a moment on something other then her internal worries. She followed Kai inside, and to the room he had all set up. She glanced around at the equipment, her eyes curious. The choice of music surprised her, though she didn't comment or complain... His business, his music. She gave Rhys' hand a squeeze, and said "Cool. Um... Since it's my back, I gotta take my shirt off, yeah? Gimme a mo." She was glad he shared space with Joy, because she knew where she could step out of sight, and take care of that. She came back, her shirt draped _carefully_ over her front, and headed for the bench. "Yeah... Yeah I'm feeling ok about this. I've wanted it for years..." She knew she looked too young to have wanted it for years, but as she turned to lay on the bench, Kai would find out why. Her back was covered in scars, stripes of them, of various ages. It was pretty obvious that she'd been beaten repeatedly, and it was also why she was nervous. She didn't want to have a panic attack. Once she was on the bench, she reached over and grabbed Rhys' hand again, for the grounding effect he had on her, and said "All right..."

Rhys had his eye on Kai for almost the whole walk, mostly because he didn't really know the guy; he'd only seen him here and there on occasion, which was interesting considering he lived with Joy. The brunette had been over a few times before and, now that he thought about it, on those occasions Kai wasn't around.
It was a curiosity that he tucked away once they stepped inside the parlor proper and he blinked while glancing around. There was some sense of familiarity, some smells and various sights of the instruments tattoo artists used and such, that weren't totally new to him that he could appreciate. He gave Seren's hand another squeeze as she wandered off to get herself prepped to get inked. He, in the meantime, took a seat in a free chair and nodded toward the larger man.
"Thanks for doin' this, dude," he offered, a ghost of a smile on his face. And that was all he could think to say until Seren showed up again and took her spot on the bench. Happily he took her hand and scooted closer, giving it a little squeeze to reassure her and keep her grounded now that her back was fully exposed.

He looked at her back, not saying a thing before he reached to pop int another piece of gum and made sure his hair was fully back behind him. From there he put on some latex gloves, and moved a metal, wheeled cart one might find in the Infirmary for surgeries but this draped with a blue paper towel and all his equipment. Reaching out, he pulled over a tall, rolling light and positioned it above Seren, turning it on and adjusting it so that the light was even on her back.
"It's nothing. What I wanna do. You the customers after all. So you need a break you just tell me. This is gonna take time. Lamp gets hot too. If you wanna take a break and walk around or like adjust s**t just tell me." He tried not to pay attention to the fact she had no shirt on and instead scooted his chair and brought up the large piece of pale paper he had inked out the sketch on. Pouring some disinfectant on some cotton gauze, he went and started to wipe off her back. The scars were old. Aged. They shouldn't hurt. IT would make tattooing harder. Scarred skin was different than normal skin.
"Gonna place on the sketch." He told her, and rose up, making sure the sketch was aligned right and set correctly before he started to lightly press down.
"You can move yalls chair over next to her if ya want. Talk to her. Don't mind if you hold a conversation. Just pretend I'm not here if you want." He said, gesturing to the space on the other side of the bench.
"Stuff stings so talkin is good to pass time."
He continued to press down the paper so that it started to stick flat to her back.

Seren smiled a little at Kai's words. "It's not nothing... It means a helluva lot to me, Kai." She spoke quietly, but with determination in her voice. She gave Rhys a small smile, her eyes focused on his, to keep her calm and relaxed. When Kai began to wipe her back off, she had to control the urge to jump, because other then Rhys, no one had touched her back since those scars had been put there. She took a careful, slow breath, controlling the immediate panic response, her eyes closing tight for a moment, then she let the breath out just as slowly. When Kai spoke again, she nodded and was prepared for the sensation this time. She was relieved to know that when she was ready for it, it didn't make her react. "Pretend you're not here? Kai, that would be rude of me... Unless you need us to, so we don't distract you?" Her voice turned concerned and inquiring. "If not, I'd rather include you, my friend." She glanced at Rhys, hoping he did not mind. It just seemed exceptionally rude to ignore the man working on her back, especially when he WAS someone she thought of as a friend, even if one she was still getting to know. Her fingers caressed Rhys', for a moment, a silent gesture to remind him how much she appreciated his presence.

The invitation to move his chair was accepted almost immediately, and he murmured a thanks as he settled closer to Seren. Again he found her hand and held it between his, though while Kai pressed the sketch on he couldn't help but crane his neck to see the work being done. He'd been just as curious when he got his tattoos done, and now he was even more curious because of how important this tattoo was to Seren.
When it was mostly down he relaxed again. "The sketch looks great," he said through a bright smile directed at Seren. And no, he didn't mind it so much if she wanted to include him in their conversation, so the smile carried when he glanced up at Kai. "And yeah, it'd be kinda shitty of us to just leave you out unless you want us to." He reached up to pull the neck of his shirt down a little bit, exposing a bit of his own ink in the process.
"Good to know there's a spot here on the island in case I wanna get some more work done on mine."

"Then on you if ya wanna talk. Not the best talker do you gotta work off that. I got coke and s**t too in the little fridge there if you need anything."
He gestured to a small fridge in the corner.
Lifting the paper off, a ink blue drawing laid against her back. Scooting closer, he placed a folded bandana over his brow to keep his hair and sweat away amd then got his tattoo gun ready.
"What you got on your chest?" He asked.

Seren blinked at the term Coke, then realized what he actually meant... And felt dumb. She considered, then decided she'd wait until later, when they had a break, which she was sure would be needed at some point. For the moment, it was best if she did not do anything that might cause her to move while she was being worked on. His question about Rhys' piece had her smiling brightly, though, because she loved Rhys' piece, and she felt her boyfriend deserved more chances to show that incredible piece of work off. "Go on, Rhys, show him. You should wear tanks more often, so people can see it." She gave him a wink, and than closed her eyes, having seen him get the gun, and she took a few steadying breaths.
