For an entire life time Faun had lived in the mists with his brothers and pride learning all he could. In his adult life he'd angled and gotten the role of a Sentinel which had the lion patrolling and guarding the coveted pridal territory. Faun had never had the curiosity to wander away from his birth lands until one day a group was setting out to leave his birth lands. A heavy code of honor to protect his fellow pride members over came him and he stepped out of the mists with them as one of their protectors.
The new lands were exciting and beautiful but the group was quick to discover that they were equally dangerous and unforgiving. The journey was tough and they needed a leader which some how Faun found him self stepping in to these paw steps. It was partly because of the respect his blood was regarded in and he fully knew that. But the bigger question was could he live up to the groups expectations.
They were now on a path to a rumored land that a stranger promised would be a good spot to settle down in. Despite having been wronged by many rogues the gray lion felt a strong since of trust in Nilak. He was putting a lot at risk trusting this lion but for what ever reason it felt right. Faun had faith they'd be delivered to a new safe spot and that their worries would be over but on the other paw it was possible that he'd signed their death certificates.
This had been a heavy decision and a huge gamble. Faun knew this.
He sat off to the side of the pride to collect his thoughts.
"It's got to be right.." He tried to assure him self.

Everything was different now.
The pale blue lioness was used to being alone. She had always been so shy and reserved that it had affected her sociability. She didn't quite mind it though. It meant she could be alone with her studies of the world. It was such a lovely world, and she was so pleased to be living in it. Being alone was not a problem for her. In fact, it was kind of nice. She tended to prefer it.
Her ears turning slightly, she heard the voice of another. She hadn't managed to pinpoint all the voices yet, but this one she recognized. It was the leader, Faun. She didn't know him too well either, but... She felt compelled to check in on him anyway. Tucking a hide scroll away that she had had opened and her nose into, she quietly walked up to him, calling out ever so slightly in a hushed and nervous tone.
"H-Hey. Faun, right?"

His ears flicked at the sound of his name. The gray lion shifted his head to watch a light blue lioness approach him. She'd joined their crew on this journey and Faun had to admit he hadn't made the time to actually get to know her.
"Yes. Thulile." He hoped that was right at least. "Is there something you need help with or are you here to keep me company?" There was a friendly welcoming smile upon his maw now. "Either way why don't you come and sit beside me. I would like the company."
He scooted to the side to make room for the female.

Thulile's heart suddenly skipped a few beats. Her anxiety started to scream in her head, but she breathed in deeply and did her best to ignore it. With a small and nervous smile, she nodded her head to acknowledge him and softly padded over, taking a seat beside the gray male.
"Th-Thank you." After taking her seat, she took a moment to make sure that her scroll was all safe and well, the fur on the outside of it sitting as nicely as she had just left it. It gave her a little genuine smile. She then turned her attention back to Faun. She wasn't sure what to say... But someone needed to say something. The awkward silence wasn't going to help either of them. She rubbed her light gray colored tipped paws together, so unsure.

It was Faun who broke the silence. He hadn't noticed the possible anxiety he was causing this female.
"So it is Thulile yes?" He was raking his memory for information on this lioness, "You're a trained scribe? That's good." He gave her a nod while not looking over his shoulder. The lion looked straight on in front of him as if he was in thought. "You know my father was well versed as a scribe. There is nothing more honorable than the profession of knowledge. It was probably the will of the gods you met up with us." He let out a big hardy lion of a laugh.
"I have to tell you Thulile. I am terrified."

"Y-Yes sir. Thulile." She smiled ever so gently, her tuft of hair draping over one of her eyes. Noticing that his gaze was remaining fixed in front of him, her smile faded away. She could tell he was in thought, and deep thought at that. While she did not know of the burden he carried, she did realize that it must of been a heavy one. To suddenly be a leader, and probably unexpectedly at that. It was something that most would not wish for. Others would jump at the chance to suddenly be in command, but it was also not a role for everyone.
Her ears perked her out of her own thoughts as Faun spoke once again to her. "Yes sir. Well, m-maybe not quite trained... B-But I love to record and learn about everything that I can." She took a brief pause. "The world is so... Fascinating." She saw his nod and nodded herself. Another small smile appeared upon her silvery maw. Faun then spoke again. Her smile disappeared, feeling bad and sorry for the male. "Wh-Why are you so terrified, sir?" Thu was personally still feeling quite anxious, especially hearing her newfound leader say that he was terrified, but it was slowly dissipating, and she knew it would with time.

"Oh that is fine. It sounds like you have a lot of experience around the world though. There is a lot you can bring to the table. My kind stuck to the mists my self included. It will be interesting what a worldly lion brings to the table." He looked to her now. His blue eyes intensely focused still looking quite thoughtful.
"I'm terrified that this gamble we're taking may end up for nothing and everyone will have my leader ship to thank for it." He sighed but it wasn't a sad sigh, "But something in the back of my head feels that isn't what is going to happen. It's like I know it will be all right. I guess... I should say I am excited then huh... That's a bit of terror and a bit of hope."
He took a breath.
"Thulile do me a favor though."

A worldly lion. She had never been called anything of the sort before. Not even remotely close. It sounded good though. "B-Basically an outsider bringing in knowledge from the r-rest of the world. I am okay with that." Yet another teeny smile appeared upon her maw. Her mind and heart danced when she received compliments, but she never knew what to do with them. So she had gotten into the habit of smiling in the tiniest fashion and then it disappearing completely.
Listening to Faun continue on, she nodded her head in understanding, her eyes having been closed briefly. Upon opening them, she noticed that he was now looking her direction. Out of instinct and habit, she lowered her head ever so slightly in both respect and intimidation, her left eye remaining concealed. She continued to nod at his words, paying close attention to them. "I-I think that you will do fine. It's a t-typical nature to w-worry about things that you cannot foresee clearly, sir."
Upon ending her reply, she heard and saw Faun take a breath, and then speak once more. "Oh! Y-Yes sir?" Her little heart raced a small bit, nervous in what his request was going to be.

Faun straightened his posture and looked at her square in her uncovered eye. His features that of stone and an air of seriousness could be felt from him. He was silent for a long intense moment.
"Don't call me sir. Just Faun is fine." He gave her a serious nod and then straightened him self to gaze at what ever it was that had his focus. "We're not in a military here. I would prefer if we lightened up a bit given the current circumstances." There was a bit of a smile growing from the corners of that serious maw. He was musing something but what ever it was the gray lion wasn't opening up about it. He seemed to have amused him self in some secret way.
"I can teach you what I know about being a scribe some time if you'd like to aid your studies."

When Faun suddenly became stern and serious with Thu, she instantly became very subservient. She hadn't meant to, but she became scared and was very nervous to disappoint him. She could of sworn that a whole day had passed during his long gaze. Her reddish eyes slowly welled up with tears as she feared his request, but she didn't let them fall. She could be strong, even if it was a hard thing for her. When the gray male finally spoke, Thu could finally breathe. She nodded her pale blue head off, her gray-violet hair flopping up and down.
"Y-Yes sir. I mean... F-Faun... Sir." She squinted her eyes closed and shook her head. She took a deep breath and exhaled slowly. "Yes Faun." That was better. It as going to take some getting used to, but she would try. She noticed the corners of his maw curl into a tiny smile, but she decided to not question it. Oddly enough though, it made her smile a little bit too. Smiling was contagious after all.
"I-I would like to know more about being a scribe. I-I really enjoy it." Her paw reached over to her scroll that she kept with her, clenching it lovingly.

"See that sounds better already. I much prefer Faun." He seemed to trail off in to thought for a moment.
"I'll tell you what. Come find me once in a while and I'll help you with your studies. You can pass on what I teach you to the others. I won't have time to teach to many students but you'd be able to. I think I have my high scribe." He was now talking to him self.
"Yes I'd like you to pass on your studies to other curious scribes." He looked quite pleased with him self and her. "Well Thu... Can I call you that.. ? Any ways WELL Thu... What do you say?"

The pale lioness listened carefully to the gray male's words. She didn't want to interrupt and she also wanted to make sure she heard everything he was saying. She didn't want to miss a word! Nodding her head, her hair tuft flopping up and down over her eye, she perked up a bit when he questioned her. Her? A high scribe? If knowledge and inscription were of such importance here, that was a very high honor! Nodding her head even more so now, Thulile was a bit overwhelmed with emotion, almost unsure of what to say.
"Oh! Y-Yes! I-I will gladly take on the position of a high s-scribe!" She bit her lower lip, so excited and almost physically shaking because of it. This was such a big moment for her and she was both ecstatic and proud. "And yes, you may call me Thu. I rather prefer it." For just one moment, she had managed to get rid of her stutter, and it was nice. Reaching for her rolled up hide, she stood up and bowed her head graciously. "Th-Thank you Faun. I won't disappoint you. I promise!"

Faun felt a swell in his chest of warmth. She'd accepted his offer and for some reason it made him feel relief. He wouldn't say it out loud but he was more than grateful to her for accepting the role.
"Okay good. We'll begin tomorrow morning with our first study. I look forward to working with you Thu."
And that was that.
