Who: LuLu and Dair When: Evening Where: Some seedy looking parts of Aekea Weather: Winter chill
The day LuLu had been dreading had finally come. Samuel had called her early that morning with her first task. When she had first answered, the rabbit had been all nerves. However, once he delivered the details of her mission, it was much simpler than she was expecting. He had assigned her with delivering a Christmas gift to Aekea.
The sigel had no idea why he needed her specifically for this. Samuel could probably buy the post office if he pleased. Certainly, he could afford express shipping and confirmed delivery. Regardless, it must be an important package for his to entrust her with its delivery.
The only catch Samuel had outlined was that she was not allowed to look inside the package and it had to be delivered promptly at 8pm. LuLu had to admit, that being told no had only piqued her interest more. She wondered idly what Samuel had enclosed in the box. The package was covered in festive wrapping paper and tied with a bow, not out of the ordinary from any other Christmas gift she had seen. It was about 1' by 1' and fit snugly in her hold. It was not too heavy, either.
LuLu had arrived in Aekea at around 7pm. Samuel had given her clear instructions on how to find the delivery point. It would be a bit of a hike from the bus station she had been dropped off at, but it was a manageable distance. The only thing that concerned her was the area she had to traverse to get there. It was one of the older parts of the city and, unfortunately, it was not the best place to be this close to night. The rabbit took care as she walked down the sidewalk.

By now he had become fairly knowledgeable about the bus route he took to and from his home to the nature reserve that he enjoyed wandering around. So when the bus took a turn it wasn't supposed to, Dair sat up and pulled one of his earbuds out. The road that they should have turned down was blocked off by a wall of pylons and a few police officers waving cars away, and further down the road was a mess of cars and flashing lights.
'Sorry folks, looks like we'll be taking a detour to Aekea, you can pick up a connecting bus at the depot there." The announcement was met with a quiet groan from the passengers, several loudly voicing complaints to the driver, who simply shrugged. Dair sighed and slumped down in his seat, watching the greenery next to the road fade away into the sprawling edges of the city. He sent a quick text to Nell letting her know that he'd be coming back late on the bus, reassuring her multiple times that no, she didn't have to drive all the way out here to pick him up, and yes, he'll let her know when he gets on the bus to get home.
Unfortunately, the schedule that was posted at the bus stop showed that the next bus he could take wouldn't be arriving for over an hour. Well, he guessed he could take the time to sit down and look through the pictures he had taken today and see if there were any that were worth keeping, or...
He drifted slightly away from the bus stop as he noticed something...weird on the sidewalk. It was a dark spot, and it really just looked like someone had spilled something on the ground, but he could have sworn that it had moved. He stopped a few feet away from it, floating a bit lower to take a closer look when it wiggled again. If the sidewalk had been a bit more uneven he would have written it off as it simply flowing downhill, but it was moving in a straightforward line regardless of the angle of the ground or what was in it's path.
Weird.
He looked in the direction that it was moving towards (away from the bus stop, of course) and after a moment of thought he floated off down the sidewalk to see what lay in that direction. The number and size of the spots grew larger until he was simply following the path that they had made rather than pay much attention to his surroundings. In fact, it wasn't until he floated right into someone that he finally looked up and took note of his surroundings.
Oh. Oops.
"Oh, um." Dair looked from the woman (another Raevan!) to the sidewalk and back again, belatedly noticing that he couldn't see any of the weird stains on the sidewalk anymore. "Hello, sorry about that, I wasn't..." paying attention, but that was obvious.

LuLu had already been floating for a few minutes now. Every couple of seconds she would glance back down at her phone to make sure she was still going in the right direction. The last thing she wanted was to get lost here. Fortunately, there were only just a few more turns until she would be there. The rabbit yelped softly as someone bumped into her arm. Her cell phone fell from her hand and clattered noisily on the sidewalk. A quiet 's**t' escaped her mouth as she scrambled to pick it back up. The sigel gave the device a once over and was horrified to see the screen was completely cracked. Her cellphone! Another thought suddenly occurred to her. Her directions!!! The girl spun on her heel to confront the assailant and give them a piece of her mind. She immediately noted it was another ravean. A young one, too. Some of her anger eased. However, her pout remained. "Sorry will not fix it." She held up her damaged phone.

The clatter of the phone on the sidewalk drew a wince from Dair, and he quickly floated back a few feet from whoever he had ran into, his hands raising up slightly in an apologetic gesture. The sinking feeling in his (metaphorical) stomach only sank lower when he noticed that the person was a fellow Raevan, and one older than he was. What a way to make a first impression.
"I know, I..." The sight of the cracked screen drew another wince from him and the memories of a few too many lectures from Nell about keeping his phone at least in one piece as she replaced the screen (on more than one occasion) after it had taken a few too many careless tumbles . "My guardian might be able to fix it? She's...fixed mine before..." His words trailed off, the offer sounding feeble even as he spoke it. No, it didn't feel right to foist off his mistake onto someone else. He offered the other Raevan a helpless shrug.
"Is there something I can help you with until it can be fixed?"

As the other raevan shrugged helplessly, LuLu felt a headache building in her temples. She lowered her forehead into her palm and sighed. His guardian, whoever they were, would not be able to help her quickly enough with the damaged phone. She was on a time crunch and only had about thirty minutes left to complete her delivery. She shifted the gift in her arms and pocketed the phone.
LuLu's amethyst eyes suddenly gave the young frei a once over. She decided to take him up on his offer and try to make the best out of a crappy situation. "You can help me." The way she said it made it sound more like 'you owe me'. She tapped a finger on the colorfully wrapped package she had in tow. "I need to deliver this. At a place called Cantina Segundo. But..." She trailed off for a moment and frowned as she remembered her shattered cell. "My directions were on my phone. I do not remember them all." Her ears sunk against her head forlornly. "I have to deliver this on time. People are depending on me, understand?"
Suddenly, she perked back up. "The sign has a cactus on it. Help me look out for it, ok?!" LuLu figured two pairs of eyes were better than one in this situation. Nevertheless, she had an uneasy feeling about relying on this particular raevan for the task. She stared for a moment at the two bottomless holes in his head. The rabbit gulped softly. Well, if nothing else, he could keep her company and deter anyone from robbing them. LuLu pushed forward in the direction she was heading earlier. "Why are you here anyway?" This was definitely a rough part of town for a frei to be cutting their teeth on.

Dair nodded once at her request, though with his serious expression it seemed more like a bow than anything else. He had opened his mouth to ask what, exactly, she was delivering, but he closed it with an exasperated sigh at the mention of her phone. Duh. His hands patted at the various pockets he had in the multiple sweaters he was wearing until he pulled out his phone (much battered and in a very durable looking case) and began tapping at the screen. A moment later a cool robotic voice began listing directions, which seemed to match the direction that she had already headed in.
"Oh, I was waiting for the bus and saw..." He fell silent for a bit longer than strictly necessary, only speaking again when they came to an intersection and his phone told them to turn left. "Something interesting. Why'd you end up having to deliver that?" The subject change was painfully awkward, especially considering the long silence, but he wouldn't even begin to know how to describe what he saw without sounding more than a little crazy.

LuLu quirked a brow as the young frei scouted out his numerous layers one by one. After a few seconds of searching, he finally procured a cell phone from an unseen pocket. The rabbit's posture immediately changed. She looked beyond relieved to see the beat up device. Her long ears flicked up as his blunt fingers tapped loudly against its screen. She peered over his shoulder to take a glance at the scratched up display as it came to life. LuLu quietly thanked the heavens for the calm tone that resonated from it. It directed them to head straight ahead for now. "Perfect!" The sigel squeaked. "Let's go!" She flapped her wings in a hurried beat and began to float on ahead. As they reached the next intersection, the girl heard the frei's phone start to explain the next step in their route. She quickly noticed it was a bit further away than she had expected. She glanced back and softly exclaimed, "Oh..." To her surprise, the poor boy was lagging behind by nearly a yard. The speedy rabbit floated over to re-collect him. "Sorry." She continued to answer his question, "I am doing it as a favor. For someone who has helped me out a lot." After a moment of thought, the sigel held out her hand for the other to take. "Here. So you do not fall behind again." The last thing she wanted was for him to go missing in the back alleys of Aekea and end up hurt. She then asked, "What is your name?" LuLu had been so focused on delivering the present that a proper introduction had completely slipped her mind earlier.

Dair gave her an apologetic grin before he took the proffered hand. "I'm not the fastest, sorry." But that seemed to be a non-issue for now, and he found himself being towed along behind the Sigel at a much faster pace. Much of his curiosity was satisfied at her simple comment. A repayment of a debt was a concept he was familiar with and one that he didn't feel the need to pry further into.
"I'm Dair, it's nice to meet you." He would have offered her a handshake but it seemed like it would be a bit redundant as she was already holding his hand. "Sorry it's not in, ah, better circumstances...." His voice trailed off as he looked back down at the phone screen, giving LuLu's hand a gentle tug when they had to turn a corner. That, however, gave him another glance at the festively-wrapped paper, and even though he knew why it was being delivered, the what was still something of a mystery.
"Do you know what's in it?" He did his best to sound nonchalant but couldn't quite keep all of the curiosity out of his voice.

LuLu continued on the route, practically dragging the frei like a new toy wagon. However, the boy did not seem to mind the treatment all that much. They both floated along at her hurried pace. She chimed softly to Dair, "I am LuLu. It is not ideal, but I am glad you ran into me. You should not be out here on your own." Just at that moment she dodge around a drunk man stumbling out from a bar and into the street. She shot the wayward man a firm glare before she continued on her way. Feeling a tug on her hand, the rabbit glance back at Dair to make sure he was still doing alright. Fortunately, he was still in one piece. LuLu took his prompt and turned another corner. The drunk man faded from sight. The girl shrugged her shoulders indifferently at Dair's next question. "I want to know. I am not supposed to peak though." Of course, her curiosity was gnawing away at her. However, LuLu was showing more willpower than she was usually capable of by not ripping the present open.

This was certainly not his first time being unceremoniously dragged along behind someone, Nell tended to walk much faster than he could (or was willing to) float and occasionally used him as a makeshift weight when jogging. By his accounting this was closer to a leisurely stroll in the park than a hurried trip thought a shady part of town.
[color-darkolivegreen]"Oh, is it that bad? I don't really come to this area very much..." He looked around with a frown, not seeming too concerned with their sketchy surroundings. "It should be just around the next corner, by the way." A bark-covered finger pointed to the next intersection and then to the right before his phone disappeared into one of his many pockets. There was a quiet, contemplative hum from him as he sped up just a bit to get a better look at the package once again.
"I guess you probably won't be there when they open it, either?" There was something enticing about the box, maybe it was the brightly colored paper and ribbons that begged the viewer to pull it off, or it might have just been the mystery behind it, but he just wanted to know.

LuLu followed along with Dair's instructions. Only a few more blocks now and she would be home free! She answered the frei's question offhandedly, "Probably not. But, I hope they like it." She noticed the boy was finally catching up to her pace. In fact, he was starting to get uncomfortably close. His eyes may have been empty, but the rabbit was getting the unnerving feeling that they were locked on the present in her grasp. She reached out a hand and placed her palm on his forehead to prevent his face from drawing any nearer. She could practically feel his breath on her arm! LuLu admonished him gently, "We cannot open it!" She looked once more at the package and its beckoning wrapping. It really was tempting. Maybe together they could figure out a way to take a small peek. No! The girl squared her shoulders. She had to keep her composure. This gift was not hers to open. Samuel had given her special orders, and she had promised to follow them. She muttered under her breath. Something about self control.

"Hmm, I guess it'd be something good if they're going through the trouble of having it delivered by hand." At night. In a presumably sketchy part of town. He frowned, his mind struggling to put together a few faint suspicions that were lingering in the back of his head. But just as a solid thought was a bout to form, a hand was firmly planted on his forehead and he found himself being pushed back.
With a huff he floated back to where he had been a moment ago, understanding why they shouldn't peek inside but still being disappointed that neither of them were quite defiant enough to actually do it. However, in an effort to maintain whatever shred of self control either of them possessed, he tapped LuLu on the shoulder once more and pointed down the street to where a neon cactus sign could vaguely be seen.
"Is that it?"

LuLu followed Dair's directive and glanced down the street. Her lips pursed into a soft 'oh' and her ears perked. They had made it!! The sigel reached for the boy's hand once more and drew him along. The neon sign served as a bright beacon for them to gravitate towards. They easily spanned the last few blocks and arrived at the building's doorstep. The structure was old and looked like it had seen better days. Some of the stucco was flaking off and revealed cracked brickwork. LuLu tried to glance through one of the dusty windows but could not make out anything. The lights were looked like they were turned off. The girl approached the front stoop and rapped her knuckles against the door for a few seconds. She puffed out her chest expectantly. However, no one responded to her announcement. She tried once again, added some more force to the knocking, but not a single soul stirred within the building. LuLu grumbled softly, "C'mon." She offered her companion a glance and began searching his empty eyes for any ideas he could offer.

Since he was being pulled along behind LuLu his attention was left free to wander, and wander it certainly did. His gaze wandered from one building to the next, taking in their generally worn appearance with mild interest. He hadn't seemed to notice when they arrived at the actual building they were heading to until LuLu's knock echoed down the street. The building certainly looked empty, no lights save for the neon sign were on and he couldn't hear anything from inside either. It took him a moment to realize that she was waiting for a response from him to pull his attention back to the task at hand.
"Is the door unlocked? It'd probably be better to not leave it for them outside if no one's here," He squinted up at the building with a frown, wrinkling his nose as part of the sign started to flicker wildly. "You have to deliver it tonight? Might be easier if you cam when they were open..." But even as he asked the question he already knew the answer: yes, tonight. Well, that didn't leave many options that didn't involve breaking in (which he also assumed was not an option).

LuLu titled a head at her companion. That was a good thought. She reached forward to test the handle. The metal was course from rust and creaked. However, it did not budge much beyond that. "Damn it." The rabbit shifted the gift in her hands. She agreed with the frei. There was no way in hell she was leaving it on the doorstep. With its pretty packaging, it would be taken in an instant. She sighed at Dair and substantiated his notions. "Yes, it has to be tonight." According to Dair's cell phone, within the next fifteen minutes to be exact.
LuLu glanced at the building once more. A few of its windows were already cracked and in disrepair. She wore at her lip gently as she mulled over her options. It did not seem like the owners were concerned over appearances given the general disarray of the establishment. One broken window wouldn't hurt, right? And, was it really considered breaking and entering if they left something instead of stealing? Santa Clause did nearly the same thing, and no one ever called him a bad guy!
The sigel nodded resolutely and sucked in a breath, "Here it goes." It was Christmas time and LuLu was determined to deliver the gift like a good helper elf. She set aside the gift for a moment to slip off her coat. She wrapped it around her arm and approached one of the front windows. The rabbit offered her new acquaintance a timid smile and whispered, "Keep watch, ok?"
