-------When AJ's cough wouldn't go away, Kade had made him a doctor's appointment without asking. After making sure that his unca knew that he was so very displeased, and sneezing disgusting slime out all over his desk on accident, AJ finally decided that the misery wasn't worth being stubborn.
Insisting that he go alone led to a trip that took double the time, as he had forgotten the address to the offices. Thankfully, he was still at that tender age where he could pull of the 'cute and vulnerable' look to get directions. After asking a very kind old kirin the way, AJ found himself in a very white waiting room, thumbing through a nature magazine to wait for his turn.

-------"I'll do my best." Angelus promised the man on the phone, heaving a sigh after he'd hung up. While he wasn't one to take special interest in mental health, it was still an area he'd needed some study in, as he knew from experience that some of the worst sicknesses could probably not be seen.
And it was the case, he supposed, with the young hybrid he was supposed to see today. Being told that he'd have to treat him delicately, to make sure to watch his tone and the words he chose, Angelus was prepared for what some called a basket case. To go out into the waiting room and be greeted by someone who looked ready to fall apart.
Instead...the kid looked so well-groomed and normal he couldn't believe the conversation he'd had. Aside from the snot current draining out of his nose, he didn't look ready to explode with anger.
"A-Aragorn..." He paused, remembering that the kid didn't like his full name, "...AJ?" He finally called, looking up from the clipboard.

-------It took him a moment to register that he'd been called. So, thankfully, he didn't notice when his full first name was called out, only his preferred one. Loathe to stop reading the article on the newly-discovered Bunyips, he sighed as he sat the magazine back down, grabbed the paperwork he'd filled out, and got up. The only greeting the doctor would get was a soft 'hmmph' for now, indicating his reluctance over this whole ordeal.
"Look," He started as they crossed the threshold into what he could only assume was the goblin's office, "I'm just here to see what's up with this cough. I don't wanna get a physical or anything, just gimmie some medicine or something and I'll be outta your hair." Fairly simple, right? And someone as smart as a doctor could understand, right?

-------Ah. One of these. Angelus had worked with this type of kid on occasion, and usually their issues could be traced back to inter-familial problems. While it wasn't uncommon for their behavior to stem from abuse, he had been assured that AJ had suffered none of that. So there was definitely something else going on with the young hybrid, and Angelus had to at least try and figure out a little bit of why. Although children like this were usually referred to as 'problem' children, Angelus frowned at such a descriptor. No child was beyond saving, in his eyes, and just calling them a 'problem' did more harm than good in the long run.
"Of course, AJ." He started as they entered his office. Sitting down in his chair, he adjusted himself and swiveled to be able to face the bed, hopefully the kid would sit. "We're just going to start with some questions, then we'll get the examination out of the way. If you could have a seat?"

-----As AJ entered the office he smell hit his nose like a sack of bricks. To him, it was a bitter, stinging scent that was only amplified by his grimm heritage, and it didn't help with his mood. What was already sour became moldy. Granted, that's how he usually felt, but right now it felt amplified.
Sitting down on the bed...chair...thing, AJ looked around the office. As per usual, the walls were white, but the doctor had taken some time to personalize it, apparently. There were magazine covers of several bands, a movie poster for a movie he hadn't seen before, and several pieces of artwork that ranged from the seizure-induced movement-created scribbles to something almost professionally done.
"...Alright." AJ sighed, rolling his shoulders as he stared his doctor down. "I'm ready. I just really wanna- cough- stop with this cough already!"

------"I understand. Coughing makes you tired after a while, so having one for so long has to be irritating. I once had a cough that lasted two months and let me tell you? I was so tired I fell asleep in class a lot." Angelus chuckled as he looked at his computer screen, pulling up the kid's past records. They were surprisingly good, though he did notice that some immunizations were out of date. It was a small hope that the kid wasn't averse to needles.
"Well, I can get you a syrup for that cough, for sure. But your mom made a note that you're allergic to citrus? Was that right?" It wasn't something he needed to bring up, the syrup he was going to prescribe only came in cherry or grape, but it was an excuse to gauge AJ's reactions towards his mother.

-----There it was.
At the mention of his mother, AJ's ears swiveled and pinned against his head as he bared his teeth in a snarl. What a stupid mother she was, making a note about something she didn't know about!? He drake orange smoothies just fine...sometimes...Okay, maybe she was right, but who did she think she was, going in and making notes on HIS records?!
...But just in case she was right, he took a deep breath, calmed himself, and pulled up his tail into his lap to smooth it out a bit.
"...I dunno. I might be. I guess -cough- better safe than sorry." He just couldn't hold his temper though. "But how the ******** does she have -cough- access to my records?! I don't live with her anymore and the last time she took me to the doctor I was a kid! And you're a -cough- new -cough- doctor I'm--" At this point, he launched into a coughing fit.

------Oh boy. That button had probably been pressed too many times already, and Angelus honestly felt bad for having pressed it. It was fascinating, though, that he'd been told how uncontrollable and explosive the boy was, but here he was, watching him control his temper and his anger. To a point, at least.
"She's your mother, AJ. And according to the law, she still has some control over your medical care." Turning back to the computer, he pulled up more documents. "But I promise, you're completely able to choose what you do or don't want. but if you ARE allergic to citrus, let's not chance it. Do you like grape or cherry more?"

-----"...Cherry."
As much as he hated the fact that his mother still wormed herself into his life, it was somewhat comforting to know that she was still there. Still trying, maybe. and somehow, she was still looking after him. Kade didn't know he was allergic to citrus, maybe that's why he got so sick whenever he drank orange smoothies?
However, at the same time...she had control over things still. It still pissed him off to no end that she could pull strings in the smallest ways. It REALLY pissed him off, and it showed with his tail fluffing up and his ears pinning again.
"...How much do I gotta pay for this visit, by the way?" He asked, ready to get out of there.

----"My favorite, personally."
The entire visit had gone better than he'd thought. Clearly AJ had some underlying issues, but Angelus didn't see a reason to press him and work through everything right now. Yes, he needed help and he needed to work through his problems...but on his own time.
"You don't owe me anything, AJ. Don't worry about it, I just need to see you again next week. Take the syrup twice a day, once in the morning after you wake up, and once before bed." Turning around again to face him, he smiled. "Don't skip any doses, alright? Otherwise it won't be as effective."
Not too long after the visit, Angelus called up AJ's guardian. 'Uncle', though not directly related, and the only one AJ seemed to want to be around. And he also was looking into starting a family, having kids. The thing that drove AJ away from his mother.
He'd have to see AJ again. Soon.
