Quote: Who knew fruit cake could be so good? A local bakery claims to have perfected their recipe and is giving away free samples. The good news? It’s delicious. The bad news? A few hours after ingestion, something strange kicks in. Suddenly, everything seems so colorful and bright. The music sounds so much better, everything tastes so much better—and then, it stops, and everything is an awful blend of everything. Lights are too bright, smells and tastes are overwhelming, music sounds like noise. You’re sick enough to throw up everything in your stomach—which is good, because within a few hours of that you finally start to feel normal again. Madge was waiting in line for this supposedly magical fruitcake. Her mom had heard about it and sent Madge out for the free samples. And to buy a whole one if it was any good. But apparently everyone else had heard about this stuff so she was stuck in line. She nudged the guy ahead of her. "Hey, do you really think this fruitcake is worth all this fuss?" she asked him. He looked older than her, but kinda cute with long purple hair. She'd always thought fruitcake was that ancient lump of baked grossness that everyone just regifted for years and years, somehow without getting moldy. In fact, her dad had a doorstop that was made to look like a loaf of fruitcake. Since her mom was somewhat obsessed with find edible fruitcake, it was both a bone of contention and a long-running joke between her parents. It had been going on since before Madge was born and to be honest? She was a little bit sick of it.

Clayton was out of the hospital and living in a small apartment the hospital had helped him find a program that helped patients with no memory get started again. He was working again and trying to figure out something more than his first name. It was like his brain was a drawing board and someone picked it up shook it and nothing was left. He had heard while working his new job that there was some really great fruit cake, so he figured he'd go and see what the big deal was. Clay went into the shop and looked around, he wished he could remember if he even liked fruitcake, which he didn't. His hair was long and purple and down because that was another thing he didn't know he didn't know what he liked to do with his hair he was such a mess. He felt someone nudge him in the back once he had gotten in line he looked back. He shrugged not saying anything. Then he looked towards the fruitcake and cocked an eyebrow at the girl. 'Like really how good can fruitcake be its fruitcake' But he still hadn't said anything.

Madge looked at him and waited for him to speak, but instead all she got was a shrug and an arched eyebrow. Kay. "Do you not talk or something?" Cuz she would like an actual answer. "I don't speak Facial," she huffed and crossed her arms over her stomach. She looked back at the fruitcake and wondered what could be so good about something that looked like a log of some kid's vomit with candy in it. She sighed quietly as the line had yet to move and contented herself with eyeballing the guy in front of her. He was definitely a few years older than she was, and attractive. Except it was kind of annoying he still hadn't actually answered her questions. Weird.

Clayton rolled his eyes and finally spoke "I speak when there is something to say, what I meant was how good can fruitcake be?" Still he hadn't moved from the line he figured why not try the stupid fruitcake or he could give it to someone at work and see if they liked it. That might be the better choice since he couldn't even remember if he liked fruitcake, to begin with. He looked back at the girl who had poked him in the first place. He had spoken more than he wished to. He hoped that wouldn't happen to often though he got the feeling not wishing to speak would be tricky at times.

So a quiet one, huh? "Fair enough, I guess," she said and shrugged one shoulder. "Right?" The line finally moved and she could smell the fruitcake. It...actually smelled pretty good. "At least it smells good, she half mumbled to the guy. It was starting to make her feel hungry, and oddly enough, she was starting to crave the fruitcake. Maybe they drugged the cake or something. "Finally," she huffed as the line brought them to the samples. Further down the line was where they were selling the whole fruitcakes. No one seemed to be getting out of line after they tried the samples, though. She waited for the guy ahead of her to take one before plucking a toothpick-stabbed cube for herself. "Right. Here goes nothing, yeah?"

Clayton nodded to the girl agreeing with what she said once he was close enough to smell the fruitcake he wanted it to forgetting his plan to give it away as a cheap gift for someone he didn't actually like. When he started eating it everything seemed better and he smiled which felt kinda weird on his face and it was the best feeling ever. The carolers outside sounded better, everything was magical and bright. This was amazing. He was like wearing fruitcake glasses that were coloring the world. He grabbed his fruitcake and grabbed the girl. "Come on let's go do some stuff!!" He said in an excited cheerful tone. Clearly, Clayton was high on fruitcake.

Mom might actually be right. This fruitcake stuff tasted amazing! And she felt awesome too! The carolers outside were suddenly less annoying and more like a chorus of angels belting out Joy to the World like they were born to it. Giggles bubbled up inside her until she could no longer keep them inside. She threw her money at the cashier and grabbed the log for her parents. She felt like dancing! She would have danced right out of the shop had the guy in front of her not grabbed her first. "That sounds awesome!" she said and laughed. Obviously the fruitcake was some kind of drug affecting him, too. But at this point she didn't even care. She just felt too good! "Let's go!" she said and twirled toward the exit.

Clayton ran around with the girl not even knowing her name till the fruitcake started to wear off and suddenly it was like he had taken a drug and was now on the crash point. Everything hurt, the songs were killing his ears, the lights hurting his eyes he tripped and covered his ears and eyes with her winter hat and groaned. "Oh my gah..." He groaned "Yea there was something wrong with that damn fruitcake.." Clayton groaned laying on the ground wanting to find some place to hide till his fruitcake hangover went away. "It is never safe doing anything in this city.." He groaned not even fruitcake was safe.

Madge was quite possibly having the best time of her life with this guy she didn't even know the name of. Suddenly the world turned topsy turvy and the teen's laugh turned into a sickly groan. "Oh, no," she said and covered her mouth. It felt like she was going to hurl. The guy didn't look much better. "That...was both the best and the worst thing I have ever eaten." She gagged and luckily there was a nearby trash can for her to throw up in. Once she wiped her mouth, she eased down next to him on the ground. The cute guy she had just thrown up in front of. "Ugh. Kill me now, please." she grumbled. With a sigh, she turned to look at him. "I'm Madge, by the way," she said.

Clayton squinted at the girl he had ended up in a messed up heap in and he rubbed his eyes and nodded. It was indeed the best and the worst of his life. Never a dull day in the city clearly. He shook his head at her request to kill her. Then brushed a piece of her hair out of her face and behind her ear. Then he said in a quiet tone. "I'm Clayton."

Madge's face heated when he tucked a bit of hair behind her ear. "Thanks," she mumbled quietly, then gave a small laugh. "Nice to meet you, Clayton. Kind of." She hoped she was making sense. She meant that it had been fun while they were still high on fruitcake. And, okay, it was still kinda nice laying here in the grass with him while they came down. Even though she still felt a little bit like she was gonna hurl. "Let's do this again, minus the fruitcake, kay?"

Clayton nodded it had been kinda nice to meet Madge sides from the fruitcake part, Clayton felt that calm and quiet was his zone. Not running around on fruitcake crack. He nodded sharply and said. "No more fruitcake." Then he stood up and offered Madge his hand to get up. He found a piece of scrap paper in his pocket and wrote down his number and gave it to Madge. (Fin?)
