"Cold. Cold. Cold." Anne-Marie felt herself mumbling while her gloved hands pulled her scarf tighter around her head. She had already wrapped it three times around her to try and keep the wind from blasting her nose and mouth any more than it already had been. Sadly it felt as if it was just getting worse...
"Stupid cold. Stupid snow. Stupid...EEEK!" In all her mumbling, Anne-Marie had stopped paying attention to where she had been going. Her eyes her cast down but her body had been on autopilot as her mind focused on keeping feeling in her feet. She had just been wondering if it was time for some new socks when her right foot found the ice patch.
And down she went...

’Cold’ was an understatement, at least in Jeremy’s book. He was freezing, down to his bones, even with the extra layering—even with the gloves and scarf and extra jacket he’d donned. He was trudging back to the police car he’d parked half a block away when he heard a yelp. He had just turned the corner and, had she not slipped on an ice patch, he would have collided with her—or slipped on the ice patch, himself. He might have been frozen, but his reflexes were still top notch; he jerked his arms out and wrapped around the woman’s torso, holding her upright. It was a somewhat awkward position and he realized a second too late that the whole thing could be terribly misconstrued. Except, he had the advantage of knowing the poor soul he’d grabbed out of there air and, in an effort to reduce awkwardness, he tried to help her get her footing on more stable ground so he could get his hands off of her.
“…We have got to stop meeting like this.”

Bracing for impact, Anne-Marie had allowed her eyes to close, waiting for the sound of snow and ice to crush around her body. The impact she got was very different as she smashed into what felt like fluff. Fluff with a voice. "Jeremy?" Flicking her eyelashes open before they could freeze together, Anne-Marie gazed at the man who held her on two feet as she tried to alter her stance. More snow, less frozen ground. Even as she found her footing, her hands stayed on his arms for support. She didn't trust this sidewalk now. "What are you doing out in this? There is no way someone can be dumb enough to commit a crime in this weather." "Or are you just going around saving all the ladies?"

Jeremy huffed but gave no actual indication that he was agitated--especially given that a grin had formed on his face already. “Well, you know. I do what I can. Lot of ladies wind up in trouble when I’m not around, so really, I don’t know what Destiny City would do without me. I can’t be everywhere at once, but I suppose it’s luck that I’m here, now. I was running a few errands, tying up a few loose ends on a few things I was working on. What are you doing out in this weather?”
He rubbed his hands together to try and generate a bit of heat. “You’re not in any kind of trouble, right?” he asked, a sudden edge to his voice. He skimmed the area instinctively, but he seemed genuinely worried. “You didn’t get hurt in that fall? If you’re trying to get somewhere, I can give you a ride in my car, it’s just right over there.”
He nodded around the corner. “It’s got heat,” he suggested. “And you don’t have to worry about sliding on the ice. I’ll even let you sit in the front seat, if you like.”

"Believe it or not." Anne-Marie smirked, even as she tried to wiggle her head back into her scarf to block the cold from giving her any more chapped lips. "Outside of being unlucky in ice patches, I'm not in trouble. And look!" With her free hand, she motioned down her body. "I'm even fully dressed. Shoes and all!" Kicking at the ground with the back of her boot, she felt a little snow give way but felt comfort in knowing the ground stayed still. "I had to tie up a few things at the studio and was on my way back home. Car wouldn't start in this damn cold so figured I could use a walk. Not like practice took all my energy out of me." "But if you are offering, I've always wanted a ride in a police car...not behind the cage. Unless you are into that." She winked at him before letting out a laugh. "Sorry. Too much?"

Jeremy laughed when she told him to look—because, with an invitation, he did. He nodded approvingly and shook his head, gesturing for her to join him. “I won’t make you ride in back. I keep my front seat clean.”
No, he didn’t. He had a box of papers and trash from the last fast food place he’d stopped at, but that was clean enough. Better than the back seat, at least.
“I don’t have the patience to deal with the sort of girl who wants to ride behind the cage. If I’m gonna bring a girl home, she’s gotta be down to earth, a good cook, and a lady who’s got all the patience in the world. And who’s good with kids, because between me and my brother,” he gave her a look and then shrugged.
“My perfect woman doesn’t exist,” he added a few seconds later. “And if she did, I wouldn’t subject her to me. She should go find a guy who can make all the time for her, and give her everything she wants. For me, I’ll probably just be married to my job until it kills me.”

"Between you and your brother, there are ten kids running around and a mess behind them?" Anne Marie offered with a smile as she walked with him, feeling a bit warmer just by being able to smile and laugh with someone else. "So what it sounds like is you either need a perfect 50s woman or a maid. The later might be a bit easier to find nowadays." "You are selling yourself short though." She offered a moment after he spoke about being married to his job. "Especially because if you find a woman who will put up with you, isn't it more up to her if she wants to be around you or not? You may think she deserves the moon and the stars but Jeremy, maybe all she wants is to know you care about her." Her eyes cast a glance at him followed by a half shrug. "Or maybe I'm just a believer in there is more to relationships than who can give who the world." With one gloved hand, Anne-Marie waved off the topic, mentally concerned it was getting too far into personal territory. "But enough about romance unless you want friendly advice on a woman. I'd be more than happy to offer on that aspect or to call you an idiot. You mentioned your brother. Older? Younger? Is he a cop as well?"

Jeremy laughed and shook his head. “I told you my woman doesn’t exist, so I’m not so worried on advice. Yet. My brother’s younger,” he explained. “Five years, so he’s just a little thing.”
Twenty one wasn’t so young, but there were days when Jeremy looked at him and saw his kid brother. There were days when he forgot Myles was old enough to do just about anything—except, rent a car, which was fine because Myles had never shown any interest in driving and Jeremy had never pressed the subject.
“Not a cop,” he added. “Thankfully. No, he’s still going to college, trying to figure out what he wants to do with his life. I keep telling him to look into a business degree—he’s got a shop that he’s doing, candles and s**t. Stuff,” he corrected quickly. “He’s doing okay. Or, he’d be doing better if he didn’t give away so much for free, but.”
He shrugged. “Good heart, just needs a better mind for business. But, he’ll get there.”

"Little?" Anne-Marie cocked a brow at the word, eying the man before having to just let out a sigh and a laugh. "Sounds more like a protective big brother to me." But there was also some relief and pride in his voice. It was nice to see siblings still in touch with what was important in life. "He will either get there or he will find someone to run the business side for him. People in touch with their creative side sometimes are not the best business owners. At least that is what many of my classmates say." Thank you Grad School. "I wouldn't worry too muCH..." The rest of her sentence came out in a high pitched mix between the word much and a scream of AH. Another patch of ice had set its sight on her and decided that one patch really wasn't enough. After all, how boring was it to go home with some ego still attached? But this time she wasn't alone. And as her foot went out from under her and she stumbled forward, Anne-Marie made a grab for the first solid substance her hand to find: Jeremy.

When Anne-Marie cried out, Jeremy immediately stiffened and prepared for the worst—like a robber, or a rabid dog.
Not a patch of ice.
She managed to get a fistful of fabric with a grip strong enough that it nearly dragged him down. He stumbled awkwardly and would have lost his footing if it weren’t for his sheer determination not to wind up in a pile of snow on the ground. He wrapped his arms around Anne-Marie the second he stabilized and tried to haul her up.
“You really don’t need to be out in this weather,” he said, allowing a strained laugh to fall from his lips. “Are you okay? –Like, seriously, do you need me to carry you to the car? I’m afraid you’re not going to make it in one piece at this rate.”

"I don't know if I should smack you or accept your offer." Anne-Marie offered, her hand releasing his jacket and falling limp to the side before wrapping around him to get herself back on her feet. "Would you believe I tango quite a bit better than I walk?" Before she could laugh herself, something strange caught her attention. "Oh wow." She whispered, golden eyes blinking quickly as she looked past Jeremy up at the sky. "Would you take a look at that!" The snow had begun again but this time, it didn't look like anything she had ever seen before. It glistened like a string of gemstones. "It's beautiful."
