Name: Séan Mc Durmott
Nickname: N/A, unless the mispronunciation of Seen counts.
Age: 26
Birthday: 1 November, 1991
Sign: Scorpio
Gemstone: Topaz
Blood Type: Type B Neg
Fav. Food: Hot whiskey (cloves, lemon, sugar). Solid food? Pizza, with pepperoni and black olives.
Hated Food: Salt and vinegar crisps.
School: Completed his BA and MA at University College Dublin, currently working on his Ph.D. in Folklore Studies at Destiny City University (they're paying him).
Appearance: Usually he can be found in semi-formal attire, preferring vests and slacks to t-shirts and jeans. That being said, he does own various pairs of each, though if they are worn it is usually in some fashion to dress them up a bit. Dark and earthy tones are his preference, along with layers. He stands at 5’8", with ear-length, black-purple (usually slicked back), and light tan skin, with a muscular build. It's not uncommon to find him with a bit of a shadow of stubble over his jaw once he gets caught up in his work.
Hobbies: Songs for a Pint :: Séan has long made his way through the world with song and a bit of banter. Since his secondary school days, he played gigs where legally--and sometimes with the aid of fake IDs--he could earn a bit of cash. This also included street performances more often than not, and eventually even selling some of his CDs to passersby who got caught up in his covers and original works. Throughout his undergrad and graduate years though, he mostly could be found at various pubs around Dublin, especially tourist lure areas like Temple Bar, performing solo or with friends anything from traditional folk songs, folk-rock renditions, to covers of modern songs, and even original works. His role is typically acoustic guitar and lead vocals, though he is also versed in playing the fiddle and mandolin. He's been also learning how to play the flute and harp.
Never-Ending Research :: It is as much of his job as it is a hobby at this point--there's time's he's not even sure where his for fun reading begins and his research for his thesis ends. Not always a bad thing, but it does lead to a lot of potentially overanalyzing unnecessary text. Raised on Connemara Irish (arguably closest to Connacht Irish) and fluent in an Caighdeán Oifigiúil--"The Official Standard"--Séan has spent a great deal of his time working with gathered collections written in his native and the standardized dialects. Anything and everything from folk remedies, folklore, recipes, to personal letters, he's read it, translated it, and probably even tried to make some of them when able. A growing library of his, for physical and ebooks, contains nearly every new Irish Folklore or Irish Mythology book that gets published, half out of interest to see what versions of the tales are being predominantly printed and passed around, half out of hope that he'll stumble upon a new story he'd not yet encountered. If there's ghosts or fairies in it, he'll grab it even if it's not directed to Irish folklore, and still search to see if there are connections to the tales he's so fond of.
Pen and Paper :: With never-ending research comes never ending writing. Reports, analysis, and other articles for publication are his usual works focusing on his area of study. He also has a heavy love for writing short stories of his own, usually in the genres of fantasy, urban fantasy, and modern retellings of folklore. Darker themes tend to be rather common for his works, but he has also successfully published illustrated collections of light-hearted retellings of popular or lesser-known folktales for children--in collaboration with others acting as illustrators, that is. Séan enjoys drawing and doodling, but his skills are not something he would feel comfortable publishing quite yet. Séan frequently can be found working on a new piece, be it for more personal work or academic, attending different writing and publishing workshops, and gatherings to further push his abilities and inspiration.

Virtues: Cultured :: Séan is from a mixed background--coming from a small village in rural Ireland, and pubs, where folktales and religious beliefs intertwine; into the city of Dublin with its conglomerate of other communities and cultures, influences of old world and new science blurring lines. As much as he has devoted himself to his education, Séan has also devoted himself to street smarts and learning of the world through others' stories and knowledge shared over a pint or talks between street performances. He strives to always put forth a polite smile and act with every ounce of decorum he has ever learned, from multiple cultural backgrounds and experiences. Very rarely will Séan ever say no to trying something new, and even should he disagree on points in a belief or viewpoint, he will usually be fascinated to learn more about the system behind the thought process to try to understand through cultural relativism.
Detail-Orentated :: Detailed records of his research and plans for projects and papers--never mind timelines for deadlines, performances, translation aids, and so on--are all but his life's blood. With a variety of languages, sources, and hobbies he needs to keep track of on a daily basis, Séan clings without shame to his different journals, planners, mind maps, timetables... the list goes on. Any project, any literature, any plan, any outing, any party, any conversation--it's all given the same focus on details and scrutiny. While this can certainly lead to a lot of assumptions about people, no friend of Séan's can say he doesn't offer some of the best surprise gifts or tailored outings when he has his way.
Charismatic :: Flash a smile, take a bow, keep the audience captivated and perhaps willing to toss some money your way. It's a core concept of being a street performer, and to be invited back to play at pubs. For Séan, mingling with people has always been second nature. Manners and cultured tastes act as only one facet of his projected persona when in the company of others. He can be just as rowdy and boisterous as any other with a pint in hand when the company allows or requires, and just as quickly swap to debating aspects of literature and folklore transmission. At no point is he insincere about his projection, but he knows that different crowds require different attitudes and different ways of handling them to get the results he desires.
Flaws: Critical :: If you deal with Séan in any capacity, you'll very quickly realize a key fact about him: he'll overanalyze you as much as he does every bit of literature that passes in front of his eyes. A picture is worth a thousand words, dress to impress, and actions speak louder than words are not just pretty phrases to him. They're core constructs of how he views the world and everyone around him. It is part of why he puts so much into his own appearance and behavior, even when performing some of the rowdier pub songs. You can curse and sing about Monto as much as your heart desires without backlash from Séan, provided you can show your sophistication in all other aspects of your life.
Stickler :: A downfall to being detailed-orientated is the unfortunate side-effect of finding the devil in those details. Winging it is not really something Séan is comfortable with for a long period. He prefers his plans, he prefers his tactics and awareness of what options and resources are available. Sure he is capable of adjusting plans on the fly if needed, but largely only when alternatives have been pre-arranged for just in case. Without that preparation, he feels rather lost and can become quickly flustered, if not outright hostile depending on the nature of the circumstances. He will fight tooth and nail to keep to the original plans, and deviation without proper replanning and reasoning will only be met with immense disapproval and attempts to block such maneuvers.
Aggressive :: Sometimes manners can only get you so far. Or, as is usually the case for Séan, there's only so long you can listen to people spout inaccurate information before something must be done. Though he tries to maintain his polite persona, that's not to say that he hasn't learned how to sweetly tell people they are dead wrong, especially about subjects he has devoted himself to researching, studying, gathering, and translating. Any perceived inaccuracies are, albeit sweetly, cut down as quickly as he can, supported by the sources he can quote off the top of his head, along with offers to supply further material if need be. For non-literary topics, he is as quick to bite back when he believes a plan is in undue jeopardy, never mind his own tenacity to put things back into order when need be.

Negaverse Alias: Lieutenant Arcanite
Challenge: Fact or fiction? | Bipity, bopity, boo
Weapon: Lieutenant :: A knotted toy wand with a pumpkin motif. At best, he might be able to bruise you. Or maybe poke your eye if you let him get that close.
Captain :: A knotted short staff with a pumpkin motif. Crystals at the tip, along with the twisted wood, form sharp spikes and edges that can slice through an opponent's flesh or clothing. 1 2 3 xxxxMagic :: When an opponent is struck with Arcanite's staff, the crystals begin to glow. For five seconds, the opponent struck is incapable of accessing or casting their magic, as if they have been severed from their source of power. Once the five seconds are up, the crystals cease glowing, and the opponent can once again access and cast their magic. This effect cannot stack, however after the original nullification period is up, if the opponent is struck again they can once again find themselves unable to access their magic. This cannot disrupt ongoing magic, but can only temporarily prevent an opponent from casting new magic.
General :: A knotted large staff with a pumpkin motif. Large crystals at the tip and grow out of the staff through the gnarled and twisted wood. Sharp as surgical tools, these spikes and blades are vicious against opponents. 1 2 3 4 xxxxMagic :: When an opponent is struck with Arcanite's staff, the crystals begin to glow. For five seconds, the opponent struck is incapable of accessing or casting their magic, as if they have been severed from their source of power. This effect cannot stack, however after the original nullification period is up, if the opponent is struck again they can once again find themselves unable to access their magic.
