Quote: The line for Santa is miles long and doesn’t seem to be moving. At the front, it appears there isn’t enough help to keep everything running smoothly. Suddenly you are tapped on the shoulder and turn around to find a woman dressed as an elf looking at you with panic in her eyes. “There you are! Where have you been? Why aren’t you dressed? Hurry up! We need more hands up there!” It appears she has mistaken you for one of the missing elves. Do you go along with it? Set her straight?

The line of people queuing up to see Santa was long - in fact the line seemed to be almost endless as it snaked its way around the block and well into the distance–
It also seemed to be at a standstill, because it hadn't moved even once since Oort started watching it and he had been there for a good 15 minutes.
He had been lucky enough to stumble across the front of the queue and whilst he wasn't queuing himself, he had been keeping a semi eye on it without standing too close it–
Or so he thought up until the point where he got tapped by an irate woman dressed in an elf costume who had been pretty insistent that he get changed and get up in front to help with the queue.
It had taken ages to extricate himself, with at one point Oort feeling like the woman was going to bodily push him towards the changing area, but after finally managing to do so, he had decided to watch the queue from a further and hopefully safer distance–
Because he had no intention of being an elf, or reindeer or anything even remotely santa related.
To be honest a part of Oort was even contemplating moving away and finding something else to do - because it was clear that the queue wasn't about to even shuffle up - at least not anytime soon.

It was Santa.
Wendell had heard of this Santa Claws before, of course, thanks to Oberon and an insistent and rampant desire to consume all media when Fritz wasn't home - but he'd never actually seen Santa in real life before, which made it feel like he needed to rectify this immediately. Santa was, after all (according to the telly, as Fritz called it), an important part of all childhood and holiday spirit, so he very definitely needed to meet him.
Except there was someone here that shouldn't be, a power signature that seemed out of place among all of the squabbling, squawking children that were stuffed around the place. Wendell darted under legs and weaved his way through feet and rolling contraptions and shopping bags and carts and other nonsensical things and finally skidded to a jangling halt at the feet of someone unfamiliar, Wendell's scarf swaying.
He did have red hair, though. Maybe he was a relative of Fritz's?
Wendell put a paw on the person's foot and peered up at him, blinking owlishly. Then he said, voice a low whisper, "You're a senshi, aren't you?"

The slight pressure against his sandal was unexpected and therefore came as something of a surprise - the surprise reflected in reddish eyes as Oort automatically glanced down.
There was a star cat by his feet, like Tomlin but with brown fur and long legs and one eye covered with a coin-fringed eye patch that looked kind of neat to be honest–
Although cool as the eye patch was, Tomlin was still cooler - at least to Oort's mind he was.
He nodded at the quiet question, reddish eyes glancing around carefully at the queue as he did so, but it seemed like they were far enough to escape notice.
In fact even as he glanced around one of the people in queue took out a book ignoring the frazzled-looking lady trying to entertain the two children with her.
"I'm Oort" he said at last quietly, hesitating for a moment before adding "I was thinking of heading away from here, maybe go somewhere quieter - want to come with me?"kuropeco Oort is biased about Tomlin and totally not sorry

He felt a thrill of elation that he'd found a senshi in the midst of all of this. Wendell was downright pleased with himself, his face brightening immediately at the prospect of having discovered a diamond in the rough, an eager purr thrumming through him.
"Oort!" said Wendell cheerfully, except it was said in a whisper - a very, very cheerful whisper as though Wendell was shouting, except he was whispering. "It is literally the best to meet you, I am so glad that you are here, I would very much love to talk more to you!"
He glanced around at their surroundings and narrowly missed being stepped on by a harried looking woman carrying a multitude of shopping bags on her thin arms. It was sort of fascinating how she managed to cart them all around, actually; Wendell got slightly distracted by this for a moment, then snapped his head back around to stare at Oort.
"Yes!" he said, still whisper-shouting so no one would actually overhear the talking cat. "Yes, let's go talk in a place where we can talk so I can listen to you talk and you can tell me about being a senshi!"

Oort couldn't help but blink at the star cat's very cheerful and very enthusiastic response because they had met for all of about 5 minutes, if that, and he couldn't think of anything he'd said that would merit such an enthusiastic response–
Although at least the other was continuing to whisper, even if the enthusiasm kind of made it feel like it was louder.
A glance around in the direction of the queue suggested that those there were still preoccupied with a queue that was clearly - or so Oort saw it - not going to go anywhere anytime soon–
And it wasn't as if he was picking up on any other auras in the vicinity so he didn't have a problem leaving them to it.
And it would be nice to meet another star cat as he really didn't know of that many - even if this particular one was super enthusiastic about–
About everything it seemed.
He seemed happy to come along with him though and so Oort led the way to a nearby park, said park - to his relief - seemingly empty or at least appearing that way–
Although maybe that was, at least in part, due to some of those in line queuing to see Santa.

Wendell followed along quite cheerfully, because this was a senshi and it was possibly a friend of Oberon's, because Oberon must certainly know all senshi because he was so great and fabulous and wonderful, and really, Wendell himself loved senshi in general and he was unbelievably pleased to have stumbled across one.
What fortuitous circumstances.
Wendell hopped up onto one of the low walls of shrubbery that lined the park, coins jingling merrily. It was a rather lovely night, even if it was also particularly freezing cold, the wind chill making it feel even colder. A heavy breeze rifled past them, making his fur flutter, and Wendell peered up at the other with a beaming smile.
"So. Tell me about yourself, fair senshi lad. What sort of senshi are you?"

Reddish eyes blinked at the 'lad' comment as Oort leaned up against the wall and part turned so that he was looking at the star cat.
"I'm not really" he said, before thinking about it for a moment and adding for clarification "A kid that is - I mean I'm fifteen even I am still a chibi."
Not that he knew how to actually change that, at least not at the moment - but it was something that Oort was working on - or at least trying to.
"And I'm a chibi super senshi I guess" he continued as he wondered if the cheerful brown star cat would let him pet him if he asked "The chibi super senshi of keys."
He wrinkled his nose "But that's kind of long so I tell people to just use Oort."
And whilst Oort did know Oberon as it happened and considered the older senshi a friend, he had no idea that Oberon knew the brown star cat too - because the other senshi had never mentioned knowing a brown star cat with a coin-fringed eye patch - at least not to him.

Wendell bobbed his head in agreement. "You're quite right, sir, fifteen is an excellent age full of importance, you are indeed not a child! You are old enough to fight and fulfill your great destiny to become a hero, so you are old enough to be called a man!"
After all, weren't most stories started when the heroes were younger? Wendell was sure he'd just seen a case where the hero had been a young child, during that movie he'd watched with Fritz and Cordelia that one time. His tail swiped back and forth, head tilted up eagerly to regard Oort.
"Keys!" Wendell gave a gasp of excitement. "Keys are an excellent thing! They are quite useful in every sort of way, which means that you are useful in every sort of way, does it not? That is most impressive, Sir Senshi of Keys! I've made a fortuitous meeting here!"
He wondered if Oberon knew of this key senshi. Surely he must have, because keys must be an important sphere, after all. Wendell hopped another few steps, feet sinking int the scant cloud of snow that covered the ground around them.
"I am very pleased that this happened tonight. Did you get to meet Santa?"
