Quote:
Heavy snow had plagued Destiny City for a few days and it seemed to take ages for the clouds to clear. When they finally thinned, there was something more surprising than just the night sky: a glorious display of colorful light danced over Destiny City. A myriad of colors paint the sky, twisting colorfully. Auroras are uncommon in this area, but it’s something unique to see. Of course, ‘unique’ in Destiny City isn’t always a good thing…

Like most things in Destiny City, Caleb was a bit suspicious.

Nothing in the Negaverse updates had mentioned any information about a dizzying array of colors in the sky. With what little knowledge he had about weather patterns, Caleb was concerned that an aurora couldn't normally appear this far south. Didn't auroras only happen far in the north? Something like... Alaska? Still, it was lovely, and seeing the dancing lights just outside his window was enchanting in its own way.

He couldn't shake the feeling that White Moon Senshi might be behind this.

With a glass of wine, Caleb sank into a cozy chair with the fireplace roaring and flipped his phone to dial Cerisse - Captain Tantalite - someone he'd struck up a friendship with. Perhaps she knew something about what was going on?

"Bonjour, Cerisse. Please tell me you're seeing what I'm seeing?" he asked as soon as he was certain the Captain and violinist was on the other end of the phone.

It was only in the last year that Cerissé had gained any sort of appreciation for the strangeness that happened in the city and what it could have meant. The fact that the Negaverse was behind many things was not a detail she failed to carefully inject into many of her past memories of the holidays. However, the dancing lights in the sky that had brightened up a good portion of her home was something of a new fixture. She'd been standing at her bedroom window when the phone on her bedside table began to ring.

The caller ID was only given a long enough look for her to confirm who it was before she clicked the green phone icon and held it up to her ear. "This is Cerissé," she greeted, though she was certain that Caleb already knew that.

As he spoke she walked back to the window, idly twisting her hair in her other hand and peering up at the light formation in the sky. "If I were to guess what you meant, I would say you meant the lovely light fixture in the sky. Yes, I see that," she confirmed twice over. "Why?"

There was a long, drawn-out sigh of relief from the other end of the line as Caleb sank further into the recliner. The curtains in the living room were drawn to keep the kaleidoscope of lights from casting a glare on the television screen. He was only pseudo-watching the news, the older male newscaster blathering about stock prices and the lines at malls for Christmas presents. Charities, gala functions for the elite and sports scores were ticking across the bottom of the screen. Fresh wine swirled in the bottom of the glass he held, the bluetooth headset making lounging that much easier.

"At first, I was concerned about my wine consumption," admitted the redhead with a chuckle. "I've never seen anything like it, and truthfully? I don't know much about the auroras in the north. I think there's a southern one, too? Anyway," The newscast changed to the weather across the United States, with snow piling up in the northeast. He was thankful no heavy snow had fallen just yet, because driving would be a major pain. No mention of the aurora on the national news, which was... odd. "Do you think that's normal? I don't recall ever seeing anything like it in the past... I wonder about it, but... Ha, maybe I need more wine."

Caleb was probably overreacting, as usual. Something like this natural phenomenon showing up this far south of the Arctic was probably the result of global warming or human destruction of the planet. Or... the White Moon had something to do with it. They were known to be involved in some rather unsavory events over the years. They attacked the Negaverse, somehow, but thankfully the casualties didn't include himself or Cerisse. "It's not on the news. Thankfully it's not a tornado or something. Am I being dramatic? Hmm."

Another chuckle and Caleb cast a glance down to the news ticker again, noting some local indoor soccer team had won some important event, blah blah blah. "What are you up to tonight, Cerisse? Finished your Christmas shopping~?"

Leaning against the window frame, she nodded along as Caleb spoke. Sounded as though he was having an eventful evening at least. Hers had been a lot of the same - cook for one person, read the important news bulletins, maybe read a little of whatever book had caught her interests that week. Pretty standard fare. "Well, my understanding is they're supposed to form in high latitude regions? Like, I don't know if there is more than two, but I wouldn't be surprised if one of those terrorists were up to this," after all, while the Negaverse did have a wide scope of influence, they did draw the line at natural phenomenon. At least as far as Cerissé knew.

"Ha! Well, if you're going to enjoy more wine, enjoy it on my behalf. My place is woefully under stocked. Don't have company enough to keep it and I try to not drink alone," not that she was judging Caleb for doing it, but it was fairly likely that she sounded as though she was judging him. "But I don't think you're being too dramatic. I'm sure there's plenty of couples out having romantic walks and enjoying it, but I've learned that odd means awful." so she'd be keeping her eye on that night sky. At least for now.

She glanced at the carefully packaged gifts she had stacked on the bench at the end of her bed. There was only a handful, but...that's the number of people she really kept in her life. "Mostly. I still haven't decided what my yearly mass-purchased 'incidental' gift will be," out of context, she realized, that made no sense. "I always keep a box of cards, a pen, and something that's kind-of-nice but not expensive on hand in case I get an unexpected gift of a plate of cookies, or some nice-smelling spray, or whatnot from an acquaintance so I can return it on the fly. So I'm still holding onto what I want to do for that this year."

"Always good to be prepared. You never know when you'll be given the obligation of returning a gift from, say, a sudden work-related Secret Santa event they didn't warn you about until two days prior..." Not that he had any experience with that. Oh no, never.

More than anything else, Caleb was bored, and more than a little worried about the aurora twinkling outside his window. Without too much ice or snow on the ground, driving would be easy. And thus, the decision was made. Now to communicate that to Cerisse before he showed up on her doorstep with a tin of Christmas cookies, two bottles of wine and the worst movie he could think of. "Darling, I saw we ignore the terrorists and the disco ball in the sky for just one night. Do you like terrible movies? Did you know sugar cookies pair well with chardonnay? Let's keep each other company. What do you say~?"

He'd have to wait until his Negaverse compatriot gave permission before putting on his winter coat and hopping into his car, but Caleb would, eventually, show up on Cerisse's doorstep (sober). What better way to ignore the freaky show in the sky than with good company, wine and the worst movie he could think of?

Well it sounded like Caleb had a few holiday stories to tell, and Cerissé would perhaps hear all of them over time. Time, perhaps, they would have now that he was more or less inviting himself over. Not that she didn't see the thoughtfulness in it; if she'd gone over to his place, she would have had to walk after all. Her little townhouse was more than presentable for company, though, so it wouldn't be too much problem if he came by. Well, outside of perhaps the gossip of her neighbors for having a handsome man over in the evening.

But at least it'd be that she had a handsome man over.

"Certainly, dear Caleb. As long as I don't get you in trouble," though she did think he was a smarter man than the type who would have wanted to come over even if it would have been trouble. Cerissé kept better company than that. "And as long as you promise to drive so very safely, I'd hate for you to have any problems because you were coming to see me."

And perhaps he'd take long enough to let her have some time to clean up.

He was totally fine, sheesh, Caleb chuckled to himself as he drove slowly down the road. He wasn't drunk, only having just a few sips of wine while on the phone with Cerisse (and was simply making a joke about alcohol and hallucinations), but the roads were full of people out shopping and pulling over to view the aurora. It was a slow slog, but Caleb didn't mind, listening to the radio absently while moving from streetlight to streetlight until he finally got to Cerisse's apartment.

A knock on the door announced his arrival, complete with two bottles of wine, a tin of cookies and a terrible Christmas movie. A horribly ugly holiday cardigan completed the hilarity of it all. "My mother made them as gag gifts, and they've become a running joke in the family." he explained, as his cardigan positively jingled with Christmas cheer (and literal jingle bells sewn so tightly to the damn thing that a lit match and acid might be the only thing to successfully remove them.)

"I found this infographic on wine and Christmas cookie pairings! Can you believe it? I say we ignore the terrorist aurora and watch this truly terrible movie over wine and cookies. What do you say, Cerisse?"

While Caleb had been driving over, Cerissé had nitpicked her townhouse to make sure it was presentable - though it mostly meant making sure the dishes she'd left in the sink were rinsed off and put in the dishwasher. Then she'd thrown a blanket over the back of the couch, sat down, and waited. She'd been idly surfing channels when the knock on the door came. Simply so she wouldn't look as though she'd been waiting too baitedly for him, Cerissé took a few extra seconds to answer it.

He was wearing....a rather festive sweater. Perhaps too festive for her home, but she wouldn't fault him too hard. She was, however, clearly judging. "I've never seen anybody wear one seriously before," she said, stepping back and motioning him in. Once she was sure the door was closed and locked, Cerissé lead him up the stairs and through the first doorway that opened into the kitchen.

"Cookies and wine? Sounds like some people may be trying to take the edge off of Santa's job and maybe not give him too much milk," she laughed at the idea. Would you ask your kids opinions on what type of wine one left out? "Well I already have you here, do you think I'd send you away when you came over so prepared to entertain?"

Fade to black fin with this post? Or maybe a closing from you?

"I'm serious about the wine and the cookies, that's for certain." With a chuckle, Caleb dutifully followed Cerisse through the townhome, stopping to comment on some of the elegant decor. It looked like Cerisse lived here - her tastes were distinctive among the Negaverse. "But if I were Santa Claus, I'd want some wine after having to cross the entire world in one night. I can't imagine how stressful that would be."

Pulling the wine and cookie pairings graphic on his phone, the redhead went about pouring wine for the two of them, arranging the cookies on a plate for sampling at their leisure. "What better way to spend the creepy aurora than with wine, cookies, good company and terrible movies?"

Truly, Caleb could think of no better way to escape the aurora than to spend time with some good friends and tasty treats, preferring that to patrolling and gathering energy. Instead, they could spend the time lounging on a comfortable couch, making fun of some truly awful movies made in the name of the season.

"I'd want wine before," Cerissé said in jest - though it was also likely not in jest. "Just to prepare myself for high speed travel and potentially little kids sitting in wait," she leaned up against the counter as Caleb set up their wine-and-cookie platter, smiling. It wasn't that she entirely disliked kids, simply that most people believed theirs could do no wrong and allowed them to run crazy and wild.

"I can think of a few things, but this is a very close second," Cerissé said, taking one of the glasses from Caleb and swirling it thoughtfully in one hand. "But I'll go get us set up. I'll try to not complain too much about bad acting during this movie you've brought with you," she took the case in her other hand.

She looked over the back of it with a small laugh as she walked towards the adjacent room with her couch and a rather neglected looking TV in it to get the disk running. At the very least, Caleb would get some entertainment from watching her struggle a little bit with technology. At least cold technology that didn't want to be compliant. It only took a few minutes to get the movie up and running before she settled in on the couch to watch and wait, beckoning him over.

Truly, his idea would be the best way to waste away time ignoring a light show in the sky for the time being.
