Name: D'ast (Formerly Dastane)
Age: 51
Sex: Male
Sexual Orientation: Heterosexual
Weyr: High Reaches Weyr
Rider Rank: Wingrider
Previous Rank/Craft: Apprentice Miner
Physical Description: Standing at 6'2" he isn't the tallest man at the Weyr but thanks to his quiet and solid presence D'ast can easily fill a room just by walking into it. Broad across the chest and thick in both arms and legs, his waist is getting softer with age but nothing about him screams lazy or sloppy. The muscles that stand out in his arms were built and defined by years in riding gear and his core muscles are just as tight. Dark brown hair touched by silver at the temples is cropped closely to his head, though it's more out of necessity as his wife would rather he grow it out long, and he keeps his facial hair groomed tight as well. However he's let it grow out long before, in both cases, to appease Alythrae's desires. Though lines now pull at the edges of his eyes and mouth his features are strong and his heavy dark eyes catch just as much now as they did when his children were growing up.
Scars from Thread touch his skin around the shoulders and waist, proof that he and his dragon are capable of bouncing Between with solid targets in mind very quickly. Though his riding gear was thick the scars from the first day of fall prove how even those most prepared could be caught off guard by the falling danger. Lucky for him these are the only scars he bears and any other proof of hard life comes in the form of callouses earned during his years as an apprentice and from riding his dragon.
D'ast's clothing choices range anywhere from practical to simply useful, the former being more common as he's not given the opportunity to dress to catastrophically, lest he embarrass his wife or daughters. The riding jacket that rests on his shoulders at all times shows patching and stitches that pull it back together from Threadscores, dragon and fire lizard claws, and any other number of disasters that have met it. The thick wherhide is soft from decades of use and it has been worn by the women in his life more than once on snowy days.
Personality: Silence is D'ast's general nature, he's more than willing to let his more outgoing wife speak for him as he sits back and watches the situation happen around him. Especially if there's food in front of him, there have been jokes that he's got his own bubble when eating, preferring to focus rather than take part in the conversations that range from aimless to downright wild. That silent reserve does not mean he doesn't speak but rather that he has learned when and where to express his own sometimes judgey opinions. They can get him in trouble if he announces them to the world without letting his brain mull them over first, and experience has taught him that others don't like them so much when they're blurted out with no explanation. For these reasons and the nature of the Weyr he lives in, D'ast keeps a careful lock on his tongue, even if Zetigeth knows them all he isn't talking.
Judgement aside he is an incredibly kind individual with no issue giving his time or skills to the betterment of his home and those around him. If he's strong it's for his children, if he works harder and longer than anyone else in his wing it's because he loves his wife, if he's up late into the night it's taking care of Zetigeth so his dragon will always know that he comes first no matter what or who comes into his life. Marks mean little to nothing to him if he can't make his family happy and he'll give them to his children any time he thinks they might need them, be it for riding gear, clothing or anything else. His only requirement is that they use it on themselves and nothing else! In fact he'd just be happy to have them around, his love of his family larger than almost anything in his life, save maybe his stalwart brown who loves them just as much.
Once in the air he's the most ruthless and relentless rider in his wing, his dragon capable of executing quick maneuvers and seamlessly responding to orders as if the two were one being rather than two. In many ways they are one being when fighting Thread and will bravely work their hardest to keep their wingmates safe by compensating for anything and everything that they can. The only thing that their wingleader might mention is the stubborn streak that has them nearly overworking themselves into an exhaustive state, something they've been trying to work on with age as more things ache than they used to. All the berating in the world can't keep them from fighting though and even at the beginning of his fifth decade he'll be the first to tell any new rider that his experience trumps their youth, his dragon hasn't lost any speed!
Positive Trait List: Kind, Gentle, Driven, Brave
Negative Trait List: Reserved, Stubborn, Judgemental
History: Forgotten son of a rider and his one night stand with a woman, as soon as he was born Dastane was abandoned by the woman who disappeared from Crom under mysterious circumstances. A couple well into their sixth decade took him in when his father never appeared, they had never been able to have children of their own and so they raised him the best that they could having no experience. They were the ones that gave him his name and they were the ones that made sure he was filled with love everyday, teaching him the truth that love is something you fill yourself with to give to others in the form of your words and actions rather than physical things. Dastane's favorite thing was to spend time with them over meals and doing things together, his mother's creative nature and his father's hard working strength taught him all he needed to know about life before they left him one by one. His mother, close to her seventh decade passed away from a sickness in her lungs that took her slowly, she explained how things were going to go and though his heart broke he was prepared. When she left she took her husband's heart with her but he continued to love his son and faced with his own mortality, began to teach him at the tender age of seven the nature of hard work. While he was too young to become an apprentice he hung around his father's ankles right up until he went into the mines and helped the men by carrying things that they might need back and forth.
A few years passed and just as he was about to accept an apprenticeship with the Mining Hall his father passed away in his sleep, the much loved man's friends and co-workers stated that it was from a broken heart. Torn apart inside but forced into the apprenticeship anyway with no family remaining, Dastane took one of his mother's bracelets and a rope that belonged to his father as the only belongings he needed other than clothing and left the home that loved him behind. Life in the mining hall was harder and colder than he expected, though the young boy believed that might have been due to the still burning loss of his parents, and he did his best to stay afloat in the classes and teachings. Having never learned formally before he was in for a cool reminder of how life worked when the other children in the hall decided not to help the quiet newcomer who chose from day one not to talk about his life. Though their lack of help and camaraderie made him sad he buckled down and learned quickly enough to make his way into the mine within a year rather than helping from above as he had been. The years passed by in the mine, dust and hard work were his life every day and he never once chose to complain, though he began to pass a silent kind of judgement on those that slacked off and played around.
One day he was coming up from the mines when a large brown dragon caused him to pull up short at the entrance, it struck it's large nose down into his soot covered face and informed him that he had been waiting rather impatiently for him to surface. Utterly confused the boy tried to back into the mine again but was approached by a running rider that laughed at his expression and quickly offered him the chance to come to the Weyr as a young Candidate for a hatching. Between the dragon's quips and the laughter coming from it's young rider, Dastane understandably began to decline the opportunity to stand, however his Master arrived on the scene of confusion and explained to him what was happening. Once everything was set straight he hesitantly accepted, his older and wiser master having told him the odds of Impressing a dragonet and the schooling that he would learn in the Weyr. With barely anything to take with him he left that minute, covered in mining soot and utterly unprepared for the flight though it took his breath away all the same. Never once had he been so high and the experience left him wanting more as soon as he could get it. Luckily he had a very short time to wait, the hatching happening within days of his arrival and a rainbow pair of eyes shining square into his soul sooner than he had ever imagined they would. Zetigeth was the best thing he'd ever experienced, taking the pain of his losses and easing them with love and understanding so strong that he was filled with the constant strength coming from two extra hearts.
It was the start of a partnership that lifted him up as high as the clouds from the age of fifteen onward and D'ast still hasn't come fully down from it. He and his dragon learned quickly and participated in drills and flight training as often as they were allowed once free of their Weyrling training. Zetigeth taught him things about life that he hadn't known before and boosted his already calm confidence with waves of loving support he hadn't felt since the death of his parents and the soft brown dragon took his drive and bravery into himself with each practice flight they participated in. They did everything together and everything one afternoon included a tanned woman with a beautiful rising green who's flight and heart the two of them won in a whirlwind of beating hearts. Nine months later his first two children, a pair of twins, were born and D'ast rose to the occasion without a single thought. Alythrae had wanted to keep the twins as it was rather than hand them over to the Creche, having always wanted children, and he echoed her sentiments with a desire to build a family like his parents would have always wanted to do themselves. This desire lead to many more children, some biological and others adopted by his wife or himself from the Creche, and expanded their loving family over the years. Through all of it the pair have stayed committed to loving one another and their children, teaching them everything that they can to make them strong members of the Weyr or supporting them in any endeavor they wish to pursue, rider or otherwise.

DRAGON
Name: Zetigeth
Age: 36
Color: Brown
Size: 34'
Physical Description: Soft in color and size, Zetigeth is a gentle sand color with darker colors on his back and stripes leading back from his eyes and up from his clawed feet. While he isn't as big as some of those of his color he is built strong and tall with wide wings and strong claws that can give him a quick uplift when needed. He is a strong flier and acrobatic when fighting thread but can sometimes wear out if pushed to extremes in the High Altitude wings but his stamina comes back quickly with a short break and the lower wings never exhaust him no matter how hard he works.
Personality: To find a more devoted dragon you would have to scout Pern quite hard. Whether it's the love he holds for his rider, his undying devotion to his green mate, or the overprotective and nurturing nature of his relationships with D'ast's many children, Zetigeth gives his heart and strength to any that might need or simply want it. While not the biggest dragon in the sky he is certainly the most relentless in his duties and that falls back directly to his big hearts that beat for everyone. The Weyr is his home and he'll put his life on the line to protect it and the people that live there, though he would hardly let his beloved rider share the same risks. Losing D'ast would kill him, same with any other dragon but he frets every flight about it and because of these worries has become quite the flying ace to make up for it, able to respond to commands as swiftly as they come by channeling anxiety into motion.
Should harm come to him during his duties serving High Reaches Zetigeth will do all he can to reassure his rider and wing mates that the injuries are minor, even if deeply scored in dangerous places. Though he'll open up to his rider eventually he would rather save him the strife and many an argument has been had over his self sacrificing temperament. None of them have ever amounted to much, as his overwhelming love for his rider often wins the battle in the end, no matter how much arguing was had. It's a bad habit of his to only half listen to anything when he's on the ground anyway, usually having his attention torn between the people that he loves.
Despite his deep adoration of his green lady Tarmath, this brown will still chase after a golden queen even if he questions himself and often falters. As it stands he has only ever caught greens, but he ceased chasing them when he saw his lady love rise for the first time and he has caught her multiple times in the past, sometimes even scooping her from the waiting claws of another at the last moment before her dive. Tarmath has been his love since he first laid his swirling purple eyes on her and Zetigeth has little intention of letting her slip through his waiting claws any time in the future.
