Quote: "At long last, your Holiday shopping is complete! Every last person is checked off the list, and you have time to spare. Maybe you deserve something a little extra special, too? Or is there someone you suddenly remembered? Are you just imagining that you’re done? What if you actually haven’t gotten everything finished? This time of year is always so stressful—how are you handling shopping at all?" How was Annabel handling her holiday shopping you ask?
Not at all.
Less than a week to Christmas and she had absolutely nothing of worth for her twin. Oh she had gifts. She had a stupid ugly sweater with a meme on it, she had a few adult gag gifts, she even had a real piece of coal. But of things to get him that actually mattered?
She had absolutely nothing good for him.
And quickly running out of her gift fund. Damn those gag gifts!
Ugh.
Anna stared at the overcrowded shopping plaza and groaned. What could she possibly get him....

He was used to trying to work even harder this time of year to make ends meet. Primarily due to the fact that there were gifts to buy for everyone. He usually got some things for the kids--practical gifts--and the landlady who also was his employer.
Never mind his sister. Practical gifts outweighed the gag gifts he usually got her, but they were more.... painfully practical. Like bandages and other first aid supplies, sturdy clothes. A set of plates and bowls and stuff one year when they had barely anything in the apartment.
But he wasn't even sure what she could use for practical reasons this year. Besides the medical stuff--coming home banged up from being a senshi meant buying the bulk packages of things was a necessity, and he'd done a bit above beyond even that as a slightly gag gift, slightly practical gift. Yet he didn't feel like that was enough.
He'd found... one thing. It sat in a bag he now carried, innocent and not remotely the usual s**t he bought. A hot water bottle, covered over in a fluffy wolf cover. It wasn't so much of a gag gift, as a practical... yet a sort of silly gift. Though he wasn't sure if Anna wouldn't just toss it back in his face.
And then there was someone else on his.... list. That he had no idea what to do about. Asmodeus. The Dark Mirror Senshi. Who he kept.... seeing. Sort of. Kind of. Yet. Was. He let out a puff of a sigh, grumbling beneath his frosty breath as he shrugged a bit further into his jacket and sweatshirt keeping out the chill of the air. He... felt like he should give her something. But what was so outside of his contemplation that he was left floundering.
The ******** do you get someone who you only know through powered life? And that was it? Yet still... ******** was in such a huff that it took him a moment to even realize the person he was trying to pass in the insanely crowded shopping plaza was Anna till he glanced over and spotted the familiar golden eyes. He stopped short, blinking and Zev floundered a bit still as he drew himself from his disgruntled, confused thoughts, to focus on the present. "Hey," was the oh so creative greeting, slightly crushed against her by the crowd around them. He did at least manage to move the bag at his side a bit to avoid her seeing inside it at least, in favor of the bag with clothes and socks for the kids.

You'd think it would be easy to see her twin among the crowd. They towered over most of the other people, after all. But given how crowded it was, and Anna's tunnel vision on trying to think of gifts... Even giants can get surprised.
"Bloody 'ell! ...Oh, it's you, Zev," she said, gold eyes wide as she pulled her fist back from his face. She'd pulled the punch - a back fist, really - but the fact she'd even reacted in such a way startled her. Anna usually could all but sense Zev's presence.
Clearly, no safe reflexes while tunnel visioning.
"Whacha doin' out here?" she said as if it wasn't painfully obvious. Don't let him see the gift, don't let him see the gift, don't let him seeeeeee...

The checked punch didn't go over especially well for Zev. He'd backstepped a bit--into someone else--and had brought up an arm to block if needed, but Anna retracted it before such was necessary. Still, the man was scowling, glaring at her slightly for the near mix-up. The hell was that about?
"Christmas shopping," he grunted, lifting the bags slightly enough to rustle them and confirm his statement. Making sure that the clothes for the kids still blocked any possible view she might have of the stupid wolf covering and hot water bottle in the other bag.
"You doin' the same?" It was a near rhetorical question, but considering she'd started it... "Get everythin' al'ight?"

Christmas shopping. Duh. Like she was doing.
"Eh, mostly. Still lookin' for somethin's. Gotta get somethin' for my boss, and wanna pick up treats for the dogs," she said, glancing at his bag of clothing. Probably for the kids. Anna glanced over the crowd of people for a moment, attempting to identify the closest 'pet store' on the block.
"Wanna come with? Bloody crowd is insane today." More chance he'd see the gift, but at the same time... if she got a bigger back she could hide it in there....

Though he wasn't looking forward to having to hide her gift for a while, with her right there, Zev still gave a slow shrug and nod. "Yeah, sure. Can grab lunch after, even."
He debated briefly if he should bring up his dilemma about not knowing what the hell to get Asmodeus. And if he wanted to deal with the explanation of who Asmodeus even was...
"What're you thinking for your boss?"

"Dunno. He's kinna hard t'shop for, ya know? Man has everythin' he needs for t'clinic, an' I dunno what he'd need outside of it, 'sides a lady friend," she said, moving through the crowd with her 'murder face' on. That parted the sea of people rather quickly all things considered. That one actress had right; just roll your shoulders back, stick out your chest and think murder really, really hard and people just move out of the way.
Anna ran her free hand through her hair and glanced at Zev. They may live together and be twins, but they did spend a fair amount of time apart. With the holidays, she'd seen even less of him lately. She missed her twin and missed his presence.
"So, how've ya been? Feels like I haven't seen ya in a while." Anna waggled her eyebrows at him. "Any new ladies I should know about? Ey, ey?" It occurred to Anna that she wasn't quite sure if she wanted to know if he had a girlfriend or not. Not that she was jealous, per say, but it had always been her and him, the twins together against the world. If there was someone else in the mix now...
She wasn't sure how that would change things, and she wasn't sure she liked the idea of that.

Sometime later, after catching up, Anna told her brother she'd see him at home.
And bolted.
Just into the crowd and AWAAAAY.
[FIN for me]
