Quote: The power’s out! On a cold day like today this is the absolute last thing you needed. But, despite how beautiful that ice on the wires is, it does not make for a friendly day filled with warmth and electronics! But, there should be trucks coming out soon to fix the issues, how do you cope with the slowly creeping chill? Are you the type to snuggle up with someone you care about and huddle down to keep warm? Or are you the type to get the heck out until it’s warm enough to once more inhabit your dwelling?

It was cold, although it wasn't really that surprising, not given the time of the year and whilst Oort was out on the patrol beat - patrolling wasn't really his first choice for the afternoon.
In fact his first choice had been to stay at home, preferably in his room, but the power cut had put paid to that - and whilst it was true that the power cut in itself couldn't prevent him from staying home, Briar hadn't much felt like staying in a freezing cold house.
His father had raised an eyebrow when he had mentioned that he was going out, but hadn't said anything other that the trucks were supposed to be coming out to fix the stuff causing the power cut, his mother had been more vocal but in the end had allowed him to go out on the condition that he bundled up–
And whilst he could have done without the full coat, hat, scarf and gloves regalia - Briar knew better to argue - because he really didn't want to end up stuck in the house.
And 'sides the scarf and coat had come in useful after he had powered up as Oort.
He was currently walking along with his hands tucked in, his reddish eyes on the eye out for anything out of the ordinary.
Not that anything out of the ordinary had cropped up sooo far - which kind of figured - because it was cold enough that most were probably staying in.Kyuseisha no Hikari Hope this works as a start Kyu, but let me know if not and I will tweak :3

If Jeremy had his way, he’d be inside right now. Preferably at home, mulling about on a day off, but if he had to be on the clock, he could have at least been inside doing paperwork. Being out on the street was uncomfortable and annoying and cold, even if he was bundled up as best as he could manage. He’d have chosen to stay in his car if it hadn’t gotten called out to check on something. A light layer of snow covered the ground and he trudged over it glumly. He had thought he was alone on the streets until he caught sight of a splash of color that seemed to be headed in his direction. It seemed foolish to be out in this weather unless you had to, and naturally Jeremy was suspicious of anyone out on the streets. Plus, he couldn’t quite put his finger on it, but he was certain that there was something familiar about the figure heading towards him. “Hey, Kid,” he called, steps slowing when the two were near enough to speak. “You’ll catch a cold if you stay out here for long. You should go home and eat something warm before you get sick.” litian It works for me! I hope this is okay!

Unlike powered encounters, civilian ones didn't come with any warning pings of aura which meant that Oort was more than halfway down the sidewalk when he realised that actually yes - there was someone else out and about.
His gloved hands were tucked into his coat pockets and Oort was wishing that he'd thought to at least bring the thermos with him, because even with them and the scarf and the socks it was still cold when he heard the other's voice, his reddish eyes looking up startled, before narrowing slightly in recognition–
Because as it happened he recognised the man walking up towards him from the other direction and he was one that Oort would rather avoid - and as it happened had managed to avoid since their first and only meeting just over a year back.
But the 'annoying officer' as he had mentally dubbed him was too close for him to use his magic as he had the last time to escape the encounter - although if it came to it then Oort wasn't going to let it stop him from trying anyway–
But for now he stayed where he was "There isn't any power on at home" he said at the other's suggestion that he go home "And it looks like it's something that's pretty widespread."
Because whilst he hadn't come across any Negaverse agents or any youma, Oort had seen a lot of dark buildings - which was unusual for the time of day–
And hopefully, just hopefully the officer wouldn't recognise him and he could be on his way soon.

Jeremy found himself shrugging, partly out of habit and partly out of some effort to give himself a little extra warmth.
“All right, you’ve got me there,” he conceded; his eyes didn’t stray from Oort’s face and it was only a matter of seconds before it clicked. Jeremy didn’t forget a face, not usually. Not even if Oort seemed like he’d grown up a bit since their first run in.
Only, now Jeremy (reluctantly) knew a little more than he did back then.
About monsters, at least.
Sometimes he could pick his brother’s brain about it, but most of the time they just didn’t talk about it. Jeremy knew enough, for now, and he didn’t like the idea that his brother was fighting monsters. He didn’t like the idea that some kid could be tasked with it, either.
“You’re not going to run away this time, are you?” he prompted. “If I ask you a few questions, I mean. What with your whole monster hunting and all that. And I’m going to get a name this time, right? If I promise not to get your parents involved?”

Oort had been hoping that the recognition had only been on his part, especially since he'd had something of a growth spurt since the previous occasion that he'd had the misfortune of crossing paths with the 'annoying officer' mister–
And for a moment it had seemed like it might have been the case - at least right up until the point when the officer had opened his mouth and Oort realised that it had just been wishful thinking on his part.
To his surprise however, the other didn't seem to be about to try and make him go home - which would have prompted a similar conclusion to their first meeting - or at the very least prompt Oort to try and make the attempt.
Instead he considered it for a moment and then shook his head "No I'll stay and I won't use my magic" he said at last, adding "And I can try and answer some questions."
He thought about it with a frown before amending it to "Well at least I'll stay as long as you don't try to involve my parents or try to make me go home." Because he wasn't going to go home - at least not yet he wasn't.
He sighed before continuing "And I'm Chibi Oort, super senshi of keys - but that's kind of a mouthful so you can just use Oort if you want."

Jeremy’s brows were knit but he found himself nodding as he process Oort’s words. They weren’t so hard in the grand scheme of things—especially not now that he’d been forcibly introduced to the whole Senshi world.
“Most of that makes sense, all right,” he said simply. “Except for the ‘Chibi’ bit. I don’t know what that one means. I got a,” he shrugged and, to protect his brother, kept things as vague as he could, “A friend, who got into all this Senshi stuff. And now, more of you keep popping up in my life, so I’m just sort of doing what I can to make sure no one I care about gets hurt. I mean, you’re pretty young, compared to the other ones I’ve met. If you were my kid, I wouldn’t want you going out—to fight monsters, or in general. I’m not going to force you to go home,” for now, “Or spend the rest of the day giving you horror stories about why you should be careful.”
Even though he had plenty of them, all of them completely ordinary and completely horrifying. Jeremy might not have dealt with powered shenanigans or the youma as often as the Senshi did, but on his worst days he wound up dealing with an equally horrifying monster—people. People, and all their flaws, all their evils, all their trickery.
You could tell that a youma was evil. You couldn’t tell that a person was.
“So, uh,” he continued, “I guess my question is going to be about your name right now. What’s the chibi part mean, and why Oort. Do you know what that is? –I’m assuming it’s something in space. Have you ever, like, been?”

Oort couldn't help but huff slightly at the 'young' comment because it wasn't the first time that he'd been told them.
"I'm fifteen" he said, although there wasn't any real heat behind his slightly grumpy words "That's not that young - not really." Because in the scheme of things it really wasn't - at least not compared to some of the others–
Like Kirra who was younger and had started earlier than he had, although as far as he was concerned it didn't make his tree climbing buddy and friend any less of a senshi.
His reddish eyes turned solemn as the mister police officer mentioned that he had a senshi friend "I guess that all the senshi stuff can be kind of confusing at times" he said and his voice was a little sympathetic - although it was something that he would deny and vigorously if called on it.
"And chibi means that I'm not quite as strong as the non-chibis" he admitted "Although I'm faster." He thought about it and added "And I guess that I started earlier although I'm not going to be a chibi forever."
And he wasn't - even if right now Oort still didn't know how one went about not being a chibi anymore.
He was working on it.
"And I'm Oort - because there's a place called Oort and I'm named for it but I don't know much about it - at least not yet I don't." Because Oort had every intention of working on that too.Kyuseisha no Hikari [Apologies for the delay Kyu

“Kid,” Jeremy looked at him. “You’re younger than me, you’re young. I got a kid brother older than you. Not an insult, just a fact. When I was fifteen, I was…”
His voice trailed off and he figured it was better not to get into a life story situation. Especially when he wasn’t sure it was going to set a good example or make his point.
It was easier to focus on those things than it was to process the rest of what Oort was saying, but it came in time.
“…So I just want to clarify though, ‘started earlier’ means…started younger?” He didn’t mean to keep going back to the age thing, but he could feel the cogs in his head processing at least some things. “And…you’re named for Oort. I mean, makes sense. You haven’t been? Because—the Senshi I was talking to,” he shifted positions, careful not to say something that would accidentally out his brother, “He said he went, once. But he was only there for a few seconds. Said it was a snowstorm or something? It was too cold for him to stick around and do anything. So I was just wondering—the places in space. Are any of them, you know, like Earth? Or are they all cold and uninhabitable? I mean, if you know. No pressure. Just, it’s not something you’re going to see on the Discovery Channel any time soon, and I won’t live long enough to see what they find when they start exploring all those other planets out there.”
