The little white cub sprawled across the ground was perhaps not the most picturesque sight. One would have almost thought her dead, if not for the soft snores emerging from her maw, and indeed, a few of the braver wildlife were milling around her, unconcerned. To be fair, it was the middle of the day, and Meera really should have been wide awake by this point, but the sun was warm and the breeze gentle. She really wasn't motivated to get up.
A crow landed near her, hopping forward until it could peck at her side. Unfortunately for it, it's meal really wasn't a meal, and she really wasn't all that aware of her surroundings.
The poking at her side made the cheeton twitch before her foot kicked out swiftly, bashing into the unsuspecting bird and causing it to squawk and flutter away in panic. The noise startled the rest of the calm creatures around her, and in moments, the area was full of frantic running. There was nothing but a dust cloud left around her by the end of it.
Yet surprisingly, the little cub slept on, only mumbling and rolling over in response. She knew her family was nearby. Her mother would never let any of them be left alone. So what reason did she have to worry?

Meera opened a sleepy green eye at the nudge from that big, familiar nose. "Birds?" Groaning, she lifted her paws up to cover her face, stretching her back paws in contrast to the what her front were doing. Finally, she sighed and seemed to melt onto the ground, legs akimbo beside her.
"I can't get up," she muttered airily, "Too comfy." A playful streak went through her then, causing her to glance at her mother. Though less rambunctious than her siblings, she was still a cub, and her cub mentality wanted to have some fun. So managed an even more dramatic flop across the ground, her head falling back and her tongue hanging out.
"Guess I'll just be a blob."

Meera gave a huff as she was lifted up, but made no other response beyond that, playing up her act as a blob. Finally, when she was set back down, the little cub gave a purr and proceeded to roll about, enjoying the spot she had been set in.
Curling her paws underneath her, the cheeton gazed adoringly back at her mother. She loved getting to have naps with mother, with her warm, silky fur and pretty markings. She was always rather proud of having inherited said markings. She could only hope that she grew up just as pretty as well.
For now though, she wanted to enjoy her mother's company. She shuffled a bit closer and looked pleadingly up at Wing, "Could you tell me a story?"

Wing waited patiently for her daughter to come to a decision and when she finally did the cheetah chuckled and nodded.
"Very well. Adventurous it is." She closed her eyes for dramatic effect, going through her mental bank of stories that she had and hadn't told to her cubs. Some were real-life stories that she herself had experienced, others were ones she had heard her old pride members tell from their own adventures, and others still were stories passed down from generation to generation. No one knew if they were true, but they still made fun tales to tell!
Wing began a story from long ago involving a lion and his brother and how the elder brother had the birthright to the throne, which made the younger one hate him. The older brother then had a son who kicked the younger brother out of the running completely for the crown, which made the younger brother hatch a plan. He killed his brother and tried to dispose of his nephew as well, but unbeknownst to the defacto king, the cub escaped and grew up far from the pride he had called home. A few years passed and the pride was in ruins, run into the ground by the greed and hate of the younger brother. The cub - now an adult - was found by a wandering lioness and convinced to return to claim his place as king and restore the pride to its former glory. Nephew and uncle fought, and the young lion won in the end. He took his place as king and the pride grew, as did the lands that they called home.
"And that," she said as she finished, a smile on her face. "Is the circle of life my dear. Where one things perishes, another lives to replace it with all creatures great and small involved."

Meera excitedly snuggled up close to her mother as she began her story, eyes wide and head tucked up next to her tail. Her imagination ran wild as Wing spoke, imagining the characters like they were right in front of her, and gasping as the one brother killed the other. She was happy that she and her siblings never had to fight over stuff like that. She wasn't sure what she'd do if they did....
Purring as the story moved on to the cub, Meera barely even noticed herself beginning to drift off. She was determined to hear the end though, so despite her eyes closing, her ears still flicked at each word and she would glance up from time to time.
Finally, as her mother finished her story, the tiny cub gave a yawn and rolled over to push her face up against Wing's side. "I l've your st'ries." Her words were almost unintelligible with her face mashed up against Wing's fur, but she continued regardless. "Love you...." And then the cub finally sailed off to sleep, totally content with where she was.

Wing smiled as Meera spoke sleepily. Her tired little cub...she hoped she'd grow out of it a bit, she had to admit, if only because sleeping so deeply could be dangerous once she was out on her own. But for now she had her mother to watch over her and protect her and she could sleep the day away peacefully.
"Love you too," she said in return, nuzzling her tiny nose with her own. "Sleep well, little one." Lifting her head after that, Wing cast a watchful eye over her other playing cubs, then scanned the area to ensure they were, indeed, safe. For now they were, but she was always on the lookout, careful for the little lives entrusted to her.
