Age: 35
Sex: Female
Sexual Orientation: Heterosexual
Weyr: High Reaches
Rider Rank: Wingrider
Previous Rank/Craft: Fishercraft
Physical Description:
A little more on the scruffy side as far as appearances go, Kodi has lovely coffee colored hair (like her father) that grew wild and never seemed to be tamed until one of her brothers tossed it up in some sort of messy tail. She now constantly wears her hair up and out of her way. Her skin is nicely tanned and darker, thanks to all the time she spends out in the sun and on the Docks. She has warm brown eyes that lighten to amber at times, usually when she's in the sun. A smattering of scars can be seen along her face and arms from the dangers of working along to docks and attempting to assist in shipbuilding. She's about average in height but possess a bit more muscle then your average girl of her age. As for her preferred clothing attire, well. Kodi has never cared much about what's 'proper' ladies wear, since one could not work wearing a dress! Usually she just goes for something that's made of light material and easy to move in so she doesn't overheat. Or ruin good clothing from sweating. This does not mean she doesn't like to dress up when the occasion calls for it! Kodi just... isn't sure about how to accomplish it.
Personality:
If there is one thing that this gal comes close to first place in, it's her ambition to prove that just because she is female, doesn't mean she can't be just as good or better then the opposite sex. It has always been a bit of a sore spot with Kodi, having grown up with boys that think they are better than she is. Just because she was smaller or lacked burly muscles did not mean she can't shoot an arrow better than you! Or that she and her dragon are clearly better at flying then some big ol' bronze! Okay, so maybe she's got a bit of a competitive streak to her as well. But over all, Kodi strives to be the best that she can be and feels damn proud of what she's accomplished so far. This particular trait of hers probably spiraled a little 'out of control' from all the pestering and teasing she got from her older brother's growing up. They were big burly shipbuilders and she was but a twig compared to them! Her brothers tended to get quite the kick out of proving that she was a weak girl and they were strong men. However it was also because of them that Kodi found a direction to dedicate her ambition towards. And they encouraged it.
Along with that strong bit of ambition that runs through her veins, Kodi strives to do the best work she can. She is never one to fall behind in any work she's given. She'll set her mind to it and see that it gets done in a timely fashion. Kodi's not afraid of a little hard labor, always having competed with her brothers or tagged along with them to assist with small things. Like hammering those nails into the wood while they held up the beams. Or they'd set her about in coiling the rope up and moving it out of the way. It is very rare that you'll ever hear Kodi complain about something - except perhaps how obnoxious her brothers were - work related. This is not just restricted to her duties as a rider, either. Any work she is assigned will receive the same hard work. Kodi likes to have something to do, and what better way to spend a day then working on something difficult? Not only does it keep you busy but when you've finished, there is a great feeling of elation that follows!
If there is one flaw that can usually cause some trouble with this woman, it's her tendency to be closed-minded on some things. For instance, she was raised in a fairly traditional atmosphere. Meaning she views something like homosexual couples as wrong but doesn't exactly turn her nose up at it. She just doesn't completely think it's right, but having spent time among the weyrfolk, she's a little less critical of these feelings. Your business is your business and so long as you don't try pulling her into it, she's good. She's also a bit torn when it comes to something such as relationships. Kodi knows that the Weyr does not really abide by such things as marriage, with dragons mating and all. But she does feel strongly about having a partner that is faithful to her. In addition, she's not very open to big change and takes a while to adapt to something new. Of course, big change for her would be moving from, say, the Docks to Farmland!
Having been raised in a Seafaring family, Kodi knew nothing beyond the docks. But she felt awed whenever she ventured into the Holds and saw the nicer clothing some of the ladies wear, well nicer than a girl raised on the docks who smelled of salt and fish all the time. One could easily claim Kodi is mildly envious of ladies that can clean up nice and look pretty. Or those that wear nice clothing every day, and not just on special occasions - like Gathers - and have never had to work as hard as she has.
Right up there with that hard working and ambitious nature she tends to have, Kodi is quite the courageous creature. Probably not a huge surprise considering she has grown up with the Fisherfolk. Can't be afraid to tackle that smelly fish! Or haul that pile of rope off the ship. Oh, and don't forget all the Sea Tales the Trader's tell! It's a wonder people even go out onto the Big Blue with the stories they'll tell you! Especially if a good cup of beer is involved. In addition, her courageous gene gives her the ability to tackle new and challenging things with a positive air of excitement. Like tackling that job of hauling rocks or venturing into the dark caves with a wher and their handler..
Positive Trait List Ambitious, Hard worker, Reliable, Courageous
Negative Trait List Closed-minded, Envious, Competitive
History:
Theirs was an interesting marriage. Kolaria and Zardin were tossed at one another and expected to marry, in order to combine two well-known fishermen families. Each on their own were small, but had managed to make a small name for themselves. They also happened to have been competitors in the business of building ships. Each family line had generations of builders, navigators, and fishers. Of course it seemed perfect to have their children marry and combine the families! And they just happened to have offspring of the right age for such a merging to occur. Thus, after many long nights of family drama, Zardin asked Kolaria to be his wife.
It was a fiery relationship. And not in the passionate sense! Kolaria and Zardin butted heads constantly. She didn't love him! He had no interest in her! So his blueprint was decent. She could make it better. For a couple Turns, this was how their relationship went. Not to mention the entire 'merged' family being fairly dysfunctional!
However, a bond slowly began to build between the couple. Instead of fighting or trying to best each other in their work, they teamed up and worked together. Asked one another for ideas or opinions. Then Zalorin was born. It wasn't quite a fairy tale love, but Kolaria and Zardin started to see something in one another that they appreciated, especially with how well their first son turned out! And then their second. And third... And then, there was Kodi.
From the moment she could walk, Kodi was learning what it meant to always help the family and pull her own weight. Simple things, such as helping her mother, Kolaria, carry the laundry baskets back and forth from the wash to taking lunch to her forgetful brothers. These were the daily tasks that were expected of a young child who understood enough of the concept 'help mommy'. She was also constantly around the ships and traders that came through the Docks. Her father and oldest brother found great amusement in bringing the bouncing little blond to work with them. Who tried to help by carrying tools or (on several occasions) lift a piece of wood much too big for a 6 turn old!
When she was old enough to start her apprenticeship, Kodi found she enjoyed helping her youngest brother (who was still older than she was!) with bringing in the catch of the day and preparing the fish to be sold. But she also loved seeing the ships in their skeletal states and watching how the gorgeous Briggs were completed and put out on the water for the first time. Kodi wavered in her apprenticeship, not sure if she wanted to follow after her father and mother in being shipbuilders, train and eventually test to be a Captain, or live life on the seas and fight to find the best fishing locations! She even considered spending time with the Dolphineers, to see if perhaps that was the life for her. There were several from the Dolphincrafthall she had met and loved talking with!
In the end, her decision was interrupted by one of the many Dragonrider's that ventured to the Docks to find work or offer their assistance. One pair in particular happened to come on Search. Kodi happened to be the one his dragon found. And of course, with her desire to 'one up' her brothers - they just loved proving they were better ninety-eight percent of the time - Kodi was all excited and wanted to give it a go! Plus she was curious about dragons. Especially with some of the stories the Fishermen liked to tell. Yes, she knew it was possible she wouldn't Impress. But she was welcome to stay at the Weyr if she liked.
Agreeing to go with the Rider and his dragon - or practically 'kicked' out to make'em all proud - Kodi found herself in a whole new terrain. One that was confusing and intimidating but exciting all at the same time. There were things she was shocked to discover - like lack of marrying one's lover - and several more she found would take some getting used to. But shaffit she was going to give it her best! She worked hard, learning everything she could about the Weyr and the dragons. Kodi was pleasantly surprised to discover some of the lessons helped her in writing and mathematics. All things that would be useful if she found herself back home at the Docks.
But Fate had other plans for the youngest child of Zardin and Kolaria. For the now 16 turns old stood with the other Candidates, she found herself - almost literally - face to snout with an egg-residue clad hatchling.
Said hatchling had sneezed and fallen back on his haunches, almost landing on her feet. He'd twisted around with big eyes... and just stared at her. His Kodi.
Forgive me, my sweetheart! Your Reimeth did not mean to appear before you in such a clumsy fashion.
Was she shocked? Shards yes she was! And thought she may have been going crazy. Until Reimeth reassured her that she was perfectly sane, and that he was hungry, could they please grab a nibble or two of meat? Thus, Kodi became a Rider and sent word back to her family right away.
Over the turns, the pair worked hard at their training, never pushing themselves too hard - thanks to Reimeth - and never giving up. However when Thread finally returned, Kodi found herself in a rare state of uncertainty and at one point, a feeling of giving up. So many people did not make it... Then there was her family and friends of the Docks. It was a good sevenday and a few days before she finally got word from her brother, Korian. She had feared the worst in her moment of weakness. Something she should have know better then to do! Sea-fairing folk were a tough breed. All of her family survived, having spent a good portion of the time assisting their neighbors and cleaning up the mess Thread left behind.
Now, however, Kodi finds a new challenge thrown at her. How to deal with her transfer to High Reaches Weyr. She was acutely aware they strongly disapproved of the fact she was a woman and her dragon was blue. She does not like them or trust them beyond how far she can spit. But she also understood that they were the most prepared to fight the return of Pern's oldest enemy. If ever there was a time she felt her bond growing stronger with Reimeth and her limits being tested, it was now.

DRAGON
Name: Reimeth
Age: 19
Color: Blue~
Size: 25'
Physical Description:
On the smaller side for a Blue, Reimeth is lean and slim yet he is long. From snout, to tail, he's a little over a third the average size of a typical blue in length. His wings are also smaller but built for speed and agility. He is very acrobatic when in the air and surprisingly agile on the ground. His hide is a dark blue in color with a smattering of lighter blue shades dotting along his wings and body.
Personality:
"Anyone can be heroic from time to time, but a gentleman is something you have to be all the time."
Reimeth is indeed every bit of a gentleman. This blue dragon has as much subtlety in his every emotion as one might find in a green Rising.. Unless it is an emergency, this dragon rarely moves swiftly, and certainly doesn't ever seem to be in much of a rush. He will not interrupt conversation unless an opening presents itself, he will always take time out of his day to greet those he passes with a kind word or some sort of acknowledgement, and he will always do what he believes is right.
Old-fashioned, he has a ingrained sense of honor and chivalry; his first duty is to his rider, and to securing his or her safety and security. His next duty is to his lady, should he find one, and then his fellow dragons and their kin. High Reaches Weyr as a whole comes next, and then all of Pern. He may be but one blue, but genuine kindness and gentility might yet someday save the world.
While Reimeth rarely loses his temper, and would certainly never speak-ill about another without due cause, he is far from perfect. Though he carries a deep sense of honor and duty, and would not hesitate to do right in any situation, this can leave him rather closed-minded to change. He doesn't care for drastic changes, especially those that go against his own ideas or belief. He prefers things to stay within their appointed status, and is just happy he is not of Western Weyr. However, he does find that he struggles with High Reaches disapproving nature in who a dragon chooses as Theirs. Why would he ever not have chosen his Kodi? She is everything he was seeking. They can't persuade him otherwise.
Furthermore, he is a rather fussy dragon. He likes things to be a certain way, and might even be considered a little OCD. He wants his wallow just right, and will spend hours shifting the sand and fussing about it; he likes to be scrubbed and cleaned at a certain time of day, with a certain type of oil; he likes to eat a certain type of meat, and inwardly grumps when his preferred wherries are not found. Reimeth simply likes his routines, and his rider will hear all about it if something is out of place.
